[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:The Gang]]
!!Tropes that apply to the gang as a whole:

* AmateurSleuth: It's ''Scooby-Doo''. Par for the course.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: In "The Horrible Herd," the gang hatches a plan to dispose of the titular herd by luring them into the ocean. The plan succeeds, but the gang forgot that [[BigBad Professor Pericles]] used piranha DNA in the herd's creation, and thus, the creatures can ''swim''. The episode ends with the gang [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone dreading the]] [[NiceJobBreakingItHero long-term consequences]].
* HeroWithBadPublicity: During the first season, most of the adults don't appreciate the gang busting the various crooks in town, as the various [[ScoobyDooHoax Scooby-Doo Hoaxes]] are a big part of the tourist industry. This changes after they expose Mayor Fred Jones, Sr. as the Freak of Crystal Cove.
* KidHero: They're all still in high school.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: What enables them to destroy the Nibiru Entity in the GrandFinale.
* TookALevelInBadass: All the characters are much smarter and braver than in the franchise's previous incarnations, and they even fight back on occasion.

!!Scoobert "Scooby" Dooby Doo
!!!Voiced by: Creator/FrankWelker
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap-2011-05-18-11h47m09s184_6512.jpg]]

* ADayInTheLimelight: He doesn't do nearly as much in this series as he has in the past, so he gets several episodes that focus almost solely on him to make up for it.
* AntiAntichrist: It was stated by several characters that, since [[HistoryRepeats previous mystery-solving groups]] that appeared in Crystal Cove were betrayed by the TeamPet thanks to the Nibiru Entity's influence, Scooby would inevitably be corrupted as well. Instead, Scooby's the one who ''destroys'' the Entity.
* {{Badass}}:
** AdaptationalBadass: This is probably the bravest and most active incarnation of the character, and when he steps up, nothing can stop him.
** CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass
** TookALevelInBadass: Like Shaggy, he steps up and takes action more often.
*** He's also the one to deliver the killing blow to the Nibiru Entity by hurling the Heart of the Jaguar in its weak spot with ''a single karate kick''!
* BerserkButton: Mess with the gang, and he won't hesitate to bring you down. Case in point: in the third-to-last episode of the show, when Shaggy is being held at gunpoint by Pericles' MechaMooks, Scooby lets out a BigNo, jumps on Shaggy's shoulders, and unloads on them with machine guns.
-->'''Scooby''': You mess with my Shaggy, you mess with ''me''!
** Professor Pericles is this in general (especially after Pericles taunts him in the 1st season finale).
* BigDamnHeroes: In episode 10.
** Also in the series finale. Shaggy throws him the heart of the jaguar, and he freakin' ''kicks it in midair'' and hits the Nibiru Entity clear in its only weak spot, thus destroying it for good.
* BigEater: In episode 23, Scooby says his stomach needs a stomach.
* BigFriendlyDog
* TheBigGuy
* BrainBleach: In episode 8 after witnessing the "secret pirate".
--> '''Scooby:''' My brain needs a shower.
* ButtMonkey: More than Shaggy in this series.
* CatchPhrase: "Scooby Dooby Doo!", as usual
** And taken into a Badass extreme when he uses it to punctuate his quest to bring the gang back together to stop Pericles.
** Also to declare that Pericles will regret the day he messed with him and the Gang.
* ClearMyName: Went through this in episode 10.
* CompanionCube: Scooby uses Shaggy's old ventriloquist dummy to replace Shaggy as a best friend. It's no longer seen at the end of episode 7.
* CowardlyLion
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Where Walks Aphrodite", if only for the first two acts.
** Don't forget him taking charge in "Mystery Solvers Club States Finals"!
** And he does a little more in the later episodes that draw the series to a close.
* DeadpanSnarker: Surprisingly.
-->'''Shaggy:''' I can sure go for a big stack covered with clams and syrup at the Clam Cabin. Right, Scoob?
-->'''Scooby-Doo:''' Choke on it.
* {{Determinator}}: If his ending phrase to Pericles isn't this, then what is? He's promising to the bird that he'll get the gang back together to stop him.
* [[WomanScorned Dog Scorned]]: Scooby becomes extremely jealous of Shaggy's relationship with Velma and does everything he can to break them up.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: The Leukine.
* FriendVersusLover: Scooby [[JerkassBall tries his hardest to drive a wedge between]] Shaggy and Velma and succeeds, as she gets fed up with the fact that Shaggy seems more interested in hanging with Scooby that dating her.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Shaggy. When he discovers Shaggy's relationship with Velma, Scooby outright accuses Shaggy of cheating on him.
* ItHasBeenAnHonor: In episode 5, when Scooby and Shaggy are moments away from impending doom at the hands of spookified children.
-->'''Scooby:''' Goodbye Shaggy. You were a dog's best friend.
* JerkassBall: During the height of the "love triangle" between him, Shaggy, and Velma, Scooby was doing everything he could to break the latter two up.
* LetsGetDangerous: Scooby is the same LovableCoward he always was, but if you're trying to kill his friends, he will ''[[ForkliftFu murder you with a forklift]]''.
** The Nibiru Entity also finds it out the hard way when Scooby sends an ancient spear right into the Entity's SoulJar, ''erasing him from existence!''
* NonHumanSidekick: To Shaggy.
* OutOfFocus: More focus so far has been going into pulling out the human cast from their "traditional" characterizations, so Scooby is not in the [[SpotlightStealingSquad spotlight]] as much. He is given several spotlight episodes to rectify this, but sticks to the background in all other ones.
* PluckyComicRelief: The show's darker tone contrasts with his character heavily, meaning he tends to stay out of the plot and stick to screwing around instead.
* PreMortemOneLiner: In episode 10. "PLAY DEAD!" Granted, he said it to a robot, but still, Scoob was all business as he delivered the final blow.
* SpeechImpairedAnimal: Your TropeCodifier at work. Arguably upgraded to TalkingAnimal, as he is far more articulate and intelligent than any prior version of the character, tends to speak in much longer sentences, and no longer begins each word with an "R" sound.
** In Episode 20, Velma reminds him that he's next to impossible to understand on the phone.
* SkywardScream: In episode 8.
--> '''Scooby:''' Where's my Raggy!?
* StealthInsult:
** "Freddie. You're a special boy."
** After forgiving Shaggy, Scooby tells him "You're the only dummy for me."
** At the end of episode eighteen:
---> '''Barty Blake:''' Fred Jones, you buffoon!!
---> '''Scooby:''' [[MythologyGag Yeah. Buffoon.]]
* TeamPet
* UnwittingPawn: Episode 16 has him get hoodwinked into helping Professor Pericles steal a treasure so he can stop a lesser deluded maniac.
* WeirdnessCoupon: In the few scenes in which we actually see the gang at school, Scooby seems to attend Crystal Cove High right alongside Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Brenda, Cheryl, Dylan, Ethan, Gary and Hot Dog Water. This [[{{Understatement}} probably has something to do with the fact that he's a talking dog]].
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Shaggy sees Scooby as not just a dog, but his best friend. Which leads to [[FriendVersusLover problems]]...

!!Norville "Shaggy" Rogers
!!!Voiced by: Matthew Lillard
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap-2011-05-18-11h47m39s67_2501.jpg]]

* AdaptationalBadass: Shaggy is quite a bit more competent and level-headed in this adaptation.
* AdaptationalComicRelief: Actually inverted. While he still engages in slapstick with Scooby from time to time, his cartoonier characteristics are downplayed.
* AskAStupidQuestion: Shaggy does this all the time, though he did provide the sarcastic answer once:
--> '''Velma:''' What kind of Man Crab needs to use stairs to get under the volleyball tournament?\\
'''Shaggy:''' One that's industrious and has a degree in engineering?
* BewareTheNiceOnes
* BigEater: As usual.
* BoundAndGagged: "The Grasp of the Gnome".
* BreakTheCutie: Shaggy was shaved bald when he got to military camp, and it became the butt of jokes.
** The bad part for him wasn't necessarily the abuse, but being separated from his pal Scooby.
* CatchPhrase: "Zoinks!"
* CowardlyLion: As per usual.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's more consistently on the ball than in previous shows.
* DisguisedInDrag: Velma points out that Fruitmeyer's is currently hiring female servers, which gives the gang an opportunity to put people on the inside and investigate the place. Cut immediately to Shaggy and Scooby ''poorly'' disguised as women in Fruitmeyer's uniforms. When Shaggy questions ''why'' he and Scooby are dressed as girls when the gang already ''has'' two girls in it, [[NotEvenBotheringWithAnExcuse Daphne gives a very good reason - she and Velma refused.]]
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Norville.
* EruditeStoner: G-rated version.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: The Sanguine.
* FriendVersusLover: Caught between Scooby and Velma, mainly because he used the idea that Scooby wouldn't approve to avoid letting the others know they were dating. Shaggy tried to take Velma to the prom without telling Scooby first, leaving Scooby behind. Eventually, he caught them alone, accusing Shaggy of "cheating on him". It went downhill from there. In episode 10, he chooses Scooby. Velma, of course, is pissed.
** Shaggy tries to get back with Velma, and she seems to reciprocate before eventually telling him she no longer feels that way about him.
* TheHeart: He's actually the most emotionally grounded member of the group in this adaptation.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Scooby. And boy, did the decision break Velma's heart.
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: Severely averted in episode 5 by the tight pants Velma bought for Shaggy and insists he wears. He could barely walk in them, let alone look good in them. He goes back to his oversized pants at the end.
-->'''Shaggy:''' Shaggy likes it baggy!
* TheLancer: While Fred is a courageous but socially inept and frequently inadvertently insensitive, Shaggy is cowardly but reasonable and understanding. Notably, Shaggy begins the series in a committed relationship while Fred is ObliviousToLove.
* LetsGetDangerous: In "Heart of Evil" when Scooby Doo is kidnapped, Shaggy threatens Ricky Owens for information, and demands to be the one in charge of leading the rescue mission, and shows competence in hand to hand combat during said mission, which he claims are the result of his stay in military school where he TookALevelInBadass.
* LikeIsLikeAComma:
** Episode 5 lampshades this with Velma making him or someone else pinch him with a wristband every time he does it.
** Creator/HarlanEllison chews him out for it in episode 12.
--->'''Ellison:''' What if "like", like, were used, like, in its proper grammatical form and not, like, a conversational pause, like every third, like word?
* LookADistraction: Pulls this on Scooby and Velma in episode 9 when they have him cornered with a FriendVersusLover shake-down.
* LovableCoward
* NiceGuy: He's the only member of the gang who never puts his own interests above the rest of the group, and acts as a confidant to every member of the team at one point or another.
* OnlySaneMan: Bizarrely assumes this role frequently in the group's dynamic, being the least prone to getting caught up in interpersonal conflicts.
* PluckyComicRelief: Significantly more downplayed in comparison to previous versions of the show, as he now gets more focus as [[OnlySaneMan the most emotionally grounded member of the team]] and [[WillTheyOrWontThey a potential love interest for Velma]]. This reaches a point where ''Fred'' tends to get more jokes than he does.
* RaisedByWolves: If his parents' attitude toward him is any indication, he was probably raised more by Scooby than his parents.
* TookALevelInBadass: His military training may have been brutal on him, but it made him an effective field leader and skilled at hand to hand combat.

!!Velma Dinkley
!!!Voiced by: Mindy Cohn
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap-2011-05-18-11h47m36s34_1651.jpg]]

* ActionGirl: While she's still [[TheSmartGuy the smart one]], she's a lot more [[BuffySpeak actiony]] than previous incarnations.
* AgentScully: Velma is usually the one to say that there's a rational explanation for things, but that might begin to change. See OOCIsSeriousBusiness.
* AmbiguouslyJewish: Proclaims "Oy Gevalt!" after listening to her mother's old romances.
* AllWomenAreLustful: She's much more forceful than Shaggy is in their relationship, and all but outright states that she wants their relationship to go to the next level.
* AmbiguouslyJewish: Drops the occasional "oy gevalt", but otherwise it never comes up.
* BerserkButton: Don't tell her you don't want to go to prom with her. Or choose your best friend/dog over her.
* BlindWithoutEm
* BoundAndGagged: "The Wild Brood".
* BrainyBrunette
* BreakTheCutie: Episode 26 was probably the start of a ''long'' road of pain that Velma's gonna have to endure for her actions. See below as to why.
* CatchPhrase: "Jinkies!"
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Shaggy.
** When Scooby is incarcerated, she pretends to be him by wolfing down Shaggy's fries, licking her lips and saying Scooby's catch phrase.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Even shorter than the original incarnation. Which is made worse by the fact that she's also a lot more [[ActionGirl active]] than her previous incarnation.
* DeadpanSnarker: Like you would not ''believe''. Her snarkiness is so innate it allows the generally-clueless Fred to see right through her Rorschach disguise in the Season two premiere.
-->'''Fred''': Wry sense of humor, tinged with a whiff of disdain and superiority.
* FanservicePack: A pretty massive one compared to previous incarnations. While she was usually awkward, and a little [[HollywoodPudgy Hollywood Pudgy]], here, she's a [[OnlySaneMan comparatively sane]] [[DeadpanSnarker snarker]] [[ActionGirl action girl]] [[DangerouslyShortSkirt with a comedically short skirt]].
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]] The Phlegmatic.
* FriendVersusLover: With Shaggy vs. Scooby, and Velma suffered the ignominy of losing her romantic interest to ''his dog''.
** Late in season 1, Shaggy comes back around to showing romantic interest in Velma. She seems to reciprocate at first, then tells him she no longer feels that way and hopes they can still be friends. The following episode, she says she "sent him back to his dog," implying that she may very well still feel romantic feelings for Shaggy, but is afraid she'll give into them, only to be dumped for Scooby a second time.
* HairDecorations: Velma now has small side hairbows.
* HollywoodNerd
* IWishItWereReal: In episode 20, she became friends with a mermaid. Or rather it was a professional swimmer disguised as a mermaid. She then quips that she wished that the supernatural stuff was real.
* JerkassBall: In the first half of the first season, she gets better in the second half.
* MagicSkirt: Usually, but averted in episode 4 - Velma has to hold her skirt down, denying a PantyShot, after she gets catapulted into the air by the Man Crab.
* {{Meganekko}}: It helps that this version is quite different than past ones. In past incarnations, Velma was a kinda pudgy, HollywoodUgly stereotypical nerd. ''This'' Velma, however, is quite svelte, while keeping the bust & butt, much cuter, and apparently has a libido to match Shaggy's appetite.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: You know that whole thing about keeping Angel's identity a secret? Well, remember your line of 'I guess we're not a team anymore' in episode 11? Well, you ''definitely'' called it, kiddo!
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When VELMA, who is usually the one saying there's a rational explanation the the stuff going on around town, admits that SHE'S starting to think the curse of Crystal Cove is real, you KNOW things are bad!
** It comes to a near boil in episode 48 when Velma bursts into tears after she feels that logic and fact have deserted her.
* PantyShot: Episode 33.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Well, holding onto the identity of a former Mystery Inc. member wasn't the brightest idea you had. Many of your friends are pretty much pissed off at you now!
* SecretKeeper: Kept Angel/Cassidy's real identity secret, and got everyone hating her for it.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Seen in episode 17; when she, Scooby and Shaggy are in a trap, it states that only the smartest of the group could get out. Velma assumes it's her... until we see that the one who created the trap isn't seeing 'Cassidy' as the smartest; it's 'Pericles'! (Scooby). Velma tries to hide the fact that she made an error once they're free.
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]
* TeenGenius: Of course.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Daphne's Girly Girl.
* {{Tsundere}}: Very much. One scene has a quick glimpse of her as a borderline {{Yandere}}.
* WhatTheHellHero: Chewed out by Daphne after Fred is going to leave to find his parents and breaks up Mystery Inc. because of her hiding the fact that she knew who Angel was all along.
** The others chastise her in episode 33 for automatically suspecting the phantom that spoiled a movie party at a graveyard the night before was the graveyard groundskeeper, saying it was "villain profiling" and against team standards.
* WomanScorned: When Shaggy tries backing out of going to the prom, Velma gets so mad that she kicks down, not one, but two tombstones.
* WorkingWithTheEx: After she and Shaggy break up, she's noticeably antagonistic for a while, but it goes away, and by season two, they are friends again, and WordOfGod is that she's [[https://twitter.com/kooltoecee/status/296271755515932672 gotten over him.]] When the gang find Shaggy and Daphne making out because of a trance, she doesn't bat an eyelash, while Fred and Scooby freak out.
* WrenchWench: She's seen fixing the Orcs' motorcycles in "The Wild Brood".
* YouCalledMeXItMustBeSerious: You know Velma's really pissed at Shaggy when, in episode 11, she calls him by his proper name.
-->'''Velma:''' (coldly and abruptly) Goodnight, Norville.
* YouthfulFreckles
* ZettaiRyouiki

* AdaptationalBadass: His traps more or less failed OncePerEpisode in previous incarnations. His traps in this series, however, are ''far'' more effective and have a greater success ratio, without losing their complexity.
* AdaptationalComicRelief: One of the greatest examples of this benefiting a character. While Fred is now perhaps an even greater source of comic relief than Shaggy or Scooby in this adaptation, he is also given a surprisingly complex character along with it, something that he has never possessed in any previous incarnation of the show.
* {{Asexuality}}: While Fred is capable, after a considerable amount of time, of becoming romantically attracted to Daphne, he is the only member of the Gang who doesn't show any physical interest in the opposite sex, preferring to focus on his traps instead. This actually seems to have been enforced by his father, who convinced him from a young age that men are incapable of feeling real emotion.
* {{Badass}}: In addition to all the traps and crazy plans he makes, Fred has the most physical prowess of the gang and has occasionally used that to his advantage, like when he punched out Crybaby clown and in the Man in the Mirror where he fought his biological dad.
** BadassDriver: Some of the moves Fred pulls of in the Mystery Machine are pretty impractical, but you don't question them because they're that {{Badass}}.
* BreakTheCutie: Mostly of this happens in the season one's finale.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: For all of his quirks, Fred is ''very'' competent at catching criminals. Whereas the rest of the gang all have some semblance of lives outside of solving mysteries, Fred has devoted himself to it, and it shows.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Does to this to Mayor Jones in the last episode, pointing out that he ruined the lives of the original Mystery Inc., framed Professor Pericles for a crime he didn't actually commit, stole Fred from his birth parents, lied to him for his ''entire life'', and pretty much manipulated everything all for a treasure that might not even exist.
** And he does it again to his ''real'' parents, Brad and Judy Chiles, for trying to steal the gang's pieces of the Planispheric Disc and declares to them that he will not return to their home.
* ChasteHero: Made ever-so-evident in episode 17 after Fred pulls Daphne from Danny Darrow's swimming pool trap. She needs artificial respiration and is expecting mouth-to-mouth. He presses on her stomach instead.
** Later becomes a CelibateHero when in episode 24 the two kiss and are going to be engaged, but after Fred go away to find his real parents.
** Season 2 has him drop this trope also trying to reconcile with Daphne.
* CharacterDevelopment: The most out of the gang. Fred goes from a naive man child who pursues mysteries out of obsession to a caring leader who solves mysteries to help the innocent.
* CharacterExaggeration: Fred used to always build the traps. This Fred is trap obsessed! He has gone on record saying "For trap's sake", meaning his obsession is either religious, sexual, or, god willing, both.
* ChickMagnet: Downplayed. Several attractive women flirt with him, but his obliviousness puts an end to it pretty quickly. Daphne is also hopelessly in love with him.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Let's just get it out there: Fred's nuts.
-->'''Daphne (hair being chewed on by animated, mounted moose head)''': Ah!! Freddy!
-->'''Fred (whacks moose head with snow shoe)''': Knock it off, ''Tyler''!
-->'''Daphne''': Fred, you know that moose?!
-->'''Fred''': I spend a lot of time alone. He's a good listener!
* CollectorOfTheStrange: Fred's almost [[CargoShip fetishistic]] obsession with traps extends to his decor. He has an ''open BearTrap'' sitting on the floor of his bedroom.
* ComplexityAddiction: Fred's traps are frequently more complicated than they probably need to be.
* CrazyJealousGuy: Ironically, after he realizes how much Daphne means to him, turns into this when Daphne doesn't want him anymore.
* CrazyPrepared: He has made insane customizations to the Mystery Machine, and has even booby-trapped all of his friends' houses in case a monster strikes.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Fred may be naive when it comes to relationships and other people skills, but he exhibits great cunning when it comes to traps and considerable intelligence while pulling off a complicated XanatosGambit in "Wrath of the Krampus".
* DumbBlonde: Downplayed. See {{Cloudcuckoolander}} and DitzyGenius.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud:
** Fred yells this during his HeroicBSOD in episode 4 after he blurts out that Daphne's voice sounds as "sweet and perfect as a trap snapping shut on a criminal".
** Again in episode 13. Daphne overhears him call the biology teacher, whom they think is behind the cicada attacks, a "girlfriend stealer".
** Zig-zagged in episode 15 after Daphne kisses him:
--->'''Fred:''' She digs me! She digs me!!! [[PunctuatedForEmphasis SHE!! DIGS!! MEEEEE!!!!]]
* DitzyGenius[=/=]GeniusDitz: As usual, though he keeps a closer balance between brilliant but oblivious, a la ''WesternAnimation/WhatsNewScoobyDoo'', and a moron with a few smart areas, a la ''WesternAnimation/APupNamedScoobyDoo'', than ever before.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: The Melancholic.
* TheGenericGuy: Deliberately avoided. Even Fred, the former TropeNamer himself, is given a much more developed personality than ever before.
* GenreSavvy: Has his moments, such as when its revealed he has all his friends houses booby-trapped to protect from monsters or how he gives the disc to Shaggy and Scooby in episode 21 because no one would suspect them of carrying anything important...but then THAT was discovered by Angel...
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: While he's quite insensitive, it's clear that he's a good guy who simply doesn't understand what he's saying is hurtful.
* HeroesWantRedHeads
* HeroicBSOD:
** Has one after he thinks his meddling got Professor Rockelow attacked by the monster. PlayedForLaughs.
** An even more devastating one occurs during episode 4, when he believes his latest trap has led to Daphne being hurt. Also PlayedForLaughs.
** Yet another in episode 7 after his trap fails and Daphne is kidnapped. Again.
** The reveal of who he really is in episode 26; this time NOT played for laughs
* HeroProtagonist: For the first time in Scooby Doo history, Fred could actually be described as the main character of the show, having more direct involvement with the plot than any of his teammates.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: A weird case. He seems to ''believe'' that he and Shaggy are this, and assumes the two of them will be living together for the rest of their lives, but they actually spend the least amount of time together out of all of Mystery Inc.
* HiddenDepths: Fred is a much more conflicted character than he initially seems.
** In the second season (notably "Wrath of the Krampus" and "The Man in the Mirror"), Fred proves himself quite the competent strategist.
* {{Hunk}}: Especially noticeable when opposite Shaggy.
* IAmWho: The HeroicBSOD in episode 26 should explain this.
* InnocentInnuendo: Has a habit of spouting accidental double entendres when talking with other men. Naturally, everyone notices but him.
* IReadItForTheArticles: His exact words when Daphne finds a "Traps Illustrated" magazine at his house.
* LanternJawOfJustice: Fred isn't so much about the justice as the traps, but that chin certainly fits the trope.
** Danny Darrow calls him "Mr. Perfect Big-Chin Man" to which Daphne asks if they've met.
*** It came from his father Brad from Mystery Inc.
* LeavingYouToFindMyself: Well, himself via finding his real parents
* TheLeader: Actually deconstructed to a degree. Fred's singleminded obsession with solving mysteries has clearly negatively impacted the lives of his friends, and each of them has expressed an interest of leaving the mystery solving business entirely. CharacterDevelopment sees him become more attentive and understanding to his teammates.
* LetsGetDangerous: Fred in episode 26 is ''far'' more focused and serious than he is for most of the series. Other times involve taking on other trap masters.
* MissingMom: Who's either dead or divorced from Mayor Jones.
** Episode 23 has Fred waxing emotional after seeing a picture of his mom, whom Shaggy said disappeared when Fred was very young.
** Episode 26 shows that he's really NOT the mayor's son and the picture is from a magazine! He's really the son of Brad and Judy of the original Mystery Inc.
* MrFanservice: He spends a good portion of one episode shirtless. He leaves his ascot on.
* NamelessNarrative: in his episode 26 backstory, he is only called a "baby boy", so he is now a character with [[NoNameGiven no real name known.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Fred's crippling lack of any sort of social awareness is played for both laughs and drama.
* ObliviousToLove: Initially Fred didn't seem to pick up that Daphne is flirting with him, now he's actively in denial about it.
** He's in love alright, but he's holding the engagement while he finds his real parents.
** He comes right out and tells Daphne he loves her in episode 50.
** ObfuscatingStupidity: Later episodes show he's not quite as oblivious as he leads the viewer on to be. He even becomes a [[ClingyJealousGirl Clingy Jealous Boy]] at times.
*** Lampshaded in episode 23: Fred has a multi-page list of everything Daphne does, and in his sleep he mumbles Daphne's name and "traps" in the same sentence.
* {{Otaku}}: Fred is a serious Trap Otaku.
* PungeonMaster: In "Howl of the Fright Hound" with a series of dog puns. He even [[DontExplainTheJoke explains his "flea" pun]] after capturing the robot dog. Daphne implores him to stop.
* TheReveal: He's really not the Mayor's son to begin with.
* ShoutOut: In season 2, it is revealed that Fred's appearance and demeanor will mirror that of Creator/TomHanks in "Cast Away."
* SingleTargetSexuality: Fred's only two loves are Daphne and traps. He's generally indifferent to everything else.
* StandardizedLeader: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]!
* Main/StealthPun: It's established fairly early that Fred's sport is soccer, but they don't explicitly state what position he plays until the final episode, though it's obvious in hindsight: he plays goal, a position that's sometimes known as the trapper.
* SuperOCD: Fred makes a multi-page schedule for Daphne so he'll know where she is every minute of the day.
* TastesLikeFeet: Fred sniffs a bookbag in episode 12, and declares that it smells like "a baboon smoking a cigar while bathing in a bath of moldy tuna and curdled ranch dressing".
* TinMan: Fred ''thinks'' that real men don't have feelings, and is very confused by the fact he ''does'', in fact, have feelings... for traps... and Daphne.
** Episode 23 shows that Fred is probably controlling of Daphne because his mom disappeared and he's afraid Daphne could as well. Daphne assures him it's not happening.
** Episode 24: After Fred's dad declines to thank him for solving the mystery, a disconsolate Fred finds consolation in the only person he believes understands him--Daphne. So much so that he proposes marriage to her after they graduate. She accepts and the two have their first real kiss.
** But now...the engagement's off thanks to the Mayor revealing that he isn't Fred's dad.
* TookALevelInBadass: Fred is at his most competent here, pulling off both impressive XanatosGambits and dominating in fist fights regularly.
* TrapMaster
** Episode 17 had him pitted against another, villainous TrapMaster, in which he treated him as if he were the ultimate rival. Which leads to a a great moment when they start discussing different types of traps.
** In episode 49 he led the gang through a TempleOfDoom without accidentally setting off any of the traps, later the MonsterOfTheWeek triggered all of them.
* WasItAllALie: Asks this to Mayor Jones after the truth comes out. His response is soul crushingly honest.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Which makes sense, because...
* YoureNotMyFather: Mayor Jones really ISN'T Fred's biological father. Brad and Judy, two of the original Mystery Incorporated members, are his real parents. He was NOT happy.
** Fred reconciles with Sr. in episode 48. He tells Sr. that while he wasn't his real father, he was the best "dad" he had to raise him.

* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: Has one. This is [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by one of her mother's old friends, who thinks she's a vampire.
* AllWomenAreLustful: Like Velma, she makes some overtly sexual passes at Fred multiple times.
* BareYourMidriff: Her Hex Girl outfit.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished:
** Averted in episode 2, when she demonstrates that the alligator products are fake by invoking her allergies to synthetic animal skins. We're given a good long look at huge red pustules all along her arm.
** And averted in episode 4, when we're shown a flashback to her sister's wedding and her allergic reaction to shellfish. It wasn't pretty.
** Played Straight when Fred's ejection seat throws her out of the Mystery Machine. She only has some bruises on her face instead of scraped skin or broken bones.
** Averted again when she gets pimples after binging on chocolate.
* BigEater: In episode 19, she waits over 2 hours for a table at a restaurant, only to get dragged off to a mystery as soon as a table became available. By the time she ''finally'' gets a chance to eat, she's so hungry that she manages to out-eat ''Scooby and Shaggy''.
* BoundAndGagged: "In Fear of the Phantom" and "The Night the Clown Cried II - Tears of Doom".
* BreakTheCutie: Episode 26. She is absolutely devastated when Fred cancels their engagement.
* TheChick
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Fred.
* CloudCuckooLander: Sometimes.
-->'''Daphne:''' Is she trying to tell me that Alice May is the enemy and that Fred is pinned down on the beach and that I can't get up until he's safe! Or is Fred the beach and I'm the one pinned down? Or are we both the beach? It doesn't matter because I understand! ... I think.
* CompositeCharacter: Being most like the first show's version, but more clever and resourceful, like her later incarnations.
* DamselInDistress: Less so this time around.
* ExactEavesdropping: Because she's tied up above him, Daphne overhears Fred expressing frustration about his feelings toward her and how he wishes he didn't care so much about her. After she falls from her captivity, she misses his realization that he does love her.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: The Choleric.
* GenreBlind: One moment in episode 7 where, when a book drops off the shelf mysteriously, she puts it back instead of reading it. Then it keeps flying out, once with enough force to bounce off the previous shelf, and the mysterious TricksterMentor (probably Mister. E) {{lampshade|Hanging}}s it by saying "Oh, for crying out loud..."
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: She has this with her sister Daisy (the doctor), who acts condescending and casually insults her (to the point where Daphne jumps for joy when she believes Daisy's been attacked by a monster and possibly hurt). Daisy likes to hold her success in career and relationships over Daphne's head. Her relationship with her other sisters is ambiguous, save for Delilah (militant) whom she seems closer to despite all of her military talk and implied sadism.
* HairDecorations: Still has her Alice band.
* JerkassBall: In Episode Six, where she becomes 'Crush' in the Hex Girls. She even goes as far to ''write a song'' about how she just can't wait for Fred. She's back to normal in the next episode, though.
* LingerieScene: Her nightwear, in a gratuitous case of GettingCrapPastTheRadar that happens in multiple episodes.
* LipstickAndLoadMontage: Daphne undergoes one - instructing the other girls to "turn her into a rock star" - when she joins the Hex Girls in "In Fear of the Phantom".
* MagicSkirt: In her Hex Girls outfit.
* {{Metaphorgotten}}: Seems to be a common problem with Daphne.
--> '''Daphne's Mom:''' Why settle for ground beef when you can have a nice prime rib?
--> '''Daphne:''' But I don't even like meat! I like vegetables... like Fred.
* MsFanservice: Spends most of episode 4 in a bikini, and there's a scene where Velma rubs suntan lotion on her back. Her Hex Girl outfit in Episode 7 is also very revealing as is her nightie in Episode 15, when the gang and Sheriff Stone are in her bedroom.
* NoodleIncident: She has many to tell concerning her family. The latest is that her sister Dawn tried to train chickens to spell her name as part of an engagement announcement.
* PurpleEyes: Matching her dress.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt
* {{Redheaded Hero}}ine
* SelfInducedAllergicReaction: Daphne does this to check the quality of gator goods as fake animal skins make her break out.
* ShaggySearchTechnique: Pulls this off in episode 8.
* SweetTooth: She finds chocolate addictive.
* TastesLikeFeet: Daphne describes a book as smelling like "old clam chowder being gargled by a seal".
* [[ThatManIsDead That Girl Is Dead]]: Daphne pulls a temporary version, directed at Fred, when she takes the name Crush for her short stint with the Hex Girls. Naturally lost on Fred.
-->'''Fred:''' [[WhatAnIdiot Darn it lady]], I'm serious. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Where is she]]?
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Velma's Tomboy.
* TheUnfavorite: She seems to be this to her parents, who expect her to live up to her successful quadruplet (or is it quintuplet?) older sisters. When she balks at going to the same college where they all graduated before age 13, her mother tells her to her face she wishes Daphne had been a boy. Post-CosmicRetcon, this is reversed, as seen when her parents wish her sisters were more like her.
* WomanScorned: Subverted. She and Fred were about to be married after graduating, but now Fred's called off the wedding so he can search for his parents alone. She's not happy about this.
* YankTheDogsChain: Wow! Daphne's gonna get married to Fred after graduating! Oh wait, no she's not thanks to Mayor Jones revealing the truth and Fred leaving off to parts unknown.
* ZettaiRyouiki: In her Hex Girl outfit. Seemed to be a solid Grade A, too.

!!Mayor Fred Jones Sr./The Freak of Crystal Cove
!!!Voiced by: Gary Cole, Creator/FrankWelker (as The Freak)[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_16462_2483.jpg]][[caption-width-right:250:[[labelnote:Click here to see the Freak of Crystal Cove]]:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Freak_of_cc_5808.png]][[/labelnote]]

* AmbitionIsEvil: Wants to remain Mayor and keep his political power, evidenced when his role was challenged by George Avocados then there's his goal for the Disk, be it control or just {{Greed}}.
** In the new reality at the end of the show, a deliberate sign that his new incarnation is a good person is that he's just a humble school principal and coach who is in it for the kids' sake rather than any personal ambition for money or power.
* {{Asexuality}}: According to WordOfGod, [[https://twitter.com/kooltoecee/status/296667667627118593 his obsession with the treasure has turned him into this.]]
* BecomingTheMask: Even though he originally kidnapped Freddy as a hostage against his real parents, he seems to have grown to love the kid in the years of pretending to be his father, enough to save Freddy's life at the cost of being captured.
** In "Nightmare in Red", this good side is revealed in a literal sense, to the point that Fred forgives him and thinks of him as his true father.
* BigBad: Revealed to be the main villain of season 1 when it comes out that he was responsible for the disappearance of the original Mystery Inc., and thus the entire plot. He's also been manipulating the present Mystery Inc. to try and find the treasure as well.
* BigBadEnsemble: With Professor Pericles, who ends the season victorious while Jones does not.
* CharacterDevelopment: In the first few episodes, he seems to be a fairly neglectful parent like all the other kids' parents. But halfway through the first season, we gradually see his true colors - a [[{{Jerkass}} massive dick]] who takes glee in putting his own son and his friends and possibly others at risk just to make a profit off the monster mystery exhibits.
** He was even a {{jerkass}} when he was younger to begin with; he even took little Fred away from his parents!
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He helped Mystery Inc. solve the mystery of the Planispheric Map, but then backstabbed them by becoming the Freak and threatened to place a curse on them. At the same time, he teamed up with Pericles to take it all for himself then backstabbed Pericles and placed him in the asylum!
* ComedicSociopathy: Putting the gang and his citizens at risk is always played for laughs except that in the end, he really doesn't care about the town's going ons, so long as he gets the piece, and his actions stop being "funny."
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Surprisingly averted, despite betraying and scarring Professor Pericles, the two only come into conflict over the disk. Pericles hasn't bothered to seek revenge for the betrayal and largely ignores him until he takes his disk piece.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Not compared to his original version -- this is his first series -- but compared to the previous series' villains. Fred Jones, Sr. is what old school Scooby Doo villains would be like if they had ambition, patience, and planning to go with their wacky motifs and gizmos -- and he really would have gotten away with it, too, if not for his meddling son.
* EnemyMine: In "Wrath of the Krampus", see the bullet under greed.
* EnemyWithin: He lost his good side to the Sitting Room.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: He got a scholarship to Darrow University and was drawn to the legend of the treasure. Later, he met up with the old Mystery Inc. who had the map and then became the Freak of Crystal Cove to stop them. He made a deal with Pericles to go after the treasure together, and then backstabbed him, taking him into the asylum. 2 years after the old Mystery Inc. split up, he took Brad and Judy's son away from them stating that he'd take care of them. Cut to 17 years to the future and said son is Fred Jones Jr and he's mayor and no one's the wiser.
* GoshDangItToHeck: He constantly uses absurd oaths instead of swearing. This is likely because of his ObfuscatingStupidity act. He chooses his speech patterns to fit the character he is playing. "Me prefer Freak.".
** "Nightmare in Red" shows that at the very least his sealed-away good side genuinely talks like that, as does the good-timeline version of him in the season finale.
* {{Greed}}: He's always looking for a profit from the town's creatures and danger, even at the cost of lives and safety.
** Wanted that Spanish treasure all to himself and thus caused all of the events for the past 20 years.
** Obsessed to the point where he temporarily teamed up with the gang to help in "Wrath of the Krampus", in hopes of still getting the Planespheric Disc. He doesn't get to keep them, of course, but he's satisfied with revenge on Pericles all the same.
* HiddenDepths: In episode 21, he's searching for something, one of those which includes the Cursed Treasure piece the gang recovered from Danny Darrow...
** In episode 23, he has one of the treasure pieces--or as Professor Pericles called it the Planispheric Map Piece--that he stole from Pericles himself. He's denying it however.
** He knew the members because he became the Freak and wanted the treasure for himself. He even made a deal with Pericles and then backstabbed them. Oh and what makes him so evil? He snatched Brad and Judy's son and made him Freddy Jones, Jr.
** His good side counts as a literal case of Hidden Depths, as it's hidden in his subconscious just like all the good sides of everyone else who became connected to the curse.
* IWantGrandkids: He never says this to Freddie, but he does lament something similar to Sheriff Stone while watching Freddie and Daphne's abysmal second date.
--> It'll be a miracle if I ever see ''any'' grandkids.
* IWishItWereReal: He's often disappointed that the monsters aren't real.
* {{Jerkass}}: He is willing to let "spookified" children remain untreated, possibly remaining monsters ''forever'', just for the sake of tourism. This isn't even the worst thing he does for said tourism.
** His cruelty and lack of concern for the safety of his own son borders on him being an actual villain at times.
** And taking the baby away from his parents and feeding him lie after lie pushes him off the deep end INTO actual villain territory.
* KnightOfCerebus: As The Freak of Crystal Cove.
* MayorPain: The mayor and also the BigBad of the first season.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: It's not a lack of belief in the monsters, but a lack of caring which makes him useless and at the end, he knows a lot more about the Planespheric disk than he let on.
* ObviouslyEvil: In hindsight - it's easy to see he was [[JerkAss a jerk]], but the reveal is [[BigBad just how much]].
* ParentalNeglect: Easily the ''worst'' of the kids' parents. Even more so when episode 26 came around, though when it all comes down to it, Fred Jones Sr. still raised Fred, and still loves him, even if he's inept at doing so due to his EnemyWithin situation.
* ParentsAsPeople: He's more into his job, or whatever's going on than into whatever Fred's doing. In "Nightmare in Red" Fred acknowledges that while he wasn't a great father, he did raise him and he did love him subconsciously (and it's that subconscious that Fred is actually speaking to during this acknowledgment.)
* PetTheDog: He did so much damage in the series, but when Fred was about to fall off a cliff, he saved him from falling. It ends up being because his literally repressed good side that loves Fred was able to come through for that critical moment.
** Gets a more self-interested one in "Wrath of the Krampus" where he agrees to hold on to the gang's three pieces of the Planespheric Disc to fool the original Mystery Inc. and steal their three pieces of the Disc. He's not doing this out of kindness, he just still has eyes on the Disc and the treasure it leads to, not to mention revenge on Professor Pericles and his associates.
* ScoobyDooHoax: [[IWishItWereReal He wishes it was real all the time]] In episode 26, played the Freak of Crystal Cove. Poor Freddie Jones Jr.
* SeventiesHair
* TheSociopath: When afflicted by the curse.
* SuitWithVestedInterests: Always.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the Nibiru entity's destruction and the creation of a new reality, he becomes the principal and coach of the high school, as well as Fred's personal mentor and secondary father figure.
* WalkingSpoiler: The reveal that he's not only the Freak of Crystal Cove, but also the BigBad of the first season is a huge spoiler.

!!Professor Pericles
!!!Voiced by: Udo Kier
[[quoteright:282:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asert_3704.png]]

* AssholeVictim: It's hard to feel too bad about him being imprisoned for 20 years after learning what he did to his friends...
* BadBoss: He implanted mutated cobra venom in Ricky's spine, which he can release in small doses with the push of a button, to keep Ricky in line, and after having Brad and Judy surgically altered into an adult Fred and elderly Daphne, respectively, as part of one of his plans, openly stated he couldn't be bothered to reverse the surgery.
* BadassBaritone
* BadassBoast: "I am [[OverlyNarrowSuperlative the smartest criminal parrot in the world]]! You think I wouldn't have [[CrazyPrepared a backup plan!?]] [[EvilLaugh Hahahahaha]]!"
* BigBad: As part of the many villains in the show, he is the most recurring antagonist as he is behind many of the problems the gang encounters, and overall the show's Biggest Bad... until the Nibiru Entity shows up.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Mr. E for season two.
* BigBadEnsemble: With Mayor Jones for season one.
* BigEater: Implied with the flashback in episode 25.
--> "It was just a possum. Mmmmm, delicious!"
** Not to mention the [[WeaksauceWeakness sunflower seed]] business in episode 23.
---> "What can I say? A bird's got to eat!"
* CatchPhrase: Professor Pericles uses "Hello, children!" each time he meets the gang.
* CardCarryingVillain: He describes himself as evil with no shame, and once explicitly declared himself "the greatest criminal parrot in the world."
* TheChessmaster: Distracted the gang in "Where Walks Aphrodite" to get tools he needed to find a treasure buried underneath Crystal Cove.
* CompellingVoice: Possibly to the point of RealityWarper. How else would Officer Johnson's hand and taser become "mysteriously" duct-taped together... ''without anybody else noticing?!''
** It foreshadowed his otherworldly connection.
* CuteAndPsycho: Before getting his hideous facial scar, Pericles was pretty adorable, and is implied to have been EvilAllAlong, going back to his origins in Germany.
* DealWithTheDevil: His ultimate goal, and he succeeds too. Unfortunately, the devil in question, the Nibiru entity who has controlled Pericles from the start, left out the tiny detail that in doing so, Pericles DIES.
* EnemyMine: Following the gang's finding of the 4th piece of the puzzle in "Hodag Of Horror", Professor Pericles forges a truce with the original Mystery Inc gang, including Fred's real parents.
* EvilCounterpart: To Scooby Doo...
** Also to Velma. He was his team's [[TheSmartGuy Smart Guy]], he has a bloated opinion of his own intelligence, and he partially engineered the breakup of his group, albeit on purpose while Velma did it on accident.
* EvilIsNotAToy: Tried merging with the Nibiru Entity to become all powerful, only for it to consume him and take his body as its own.
* EvilSoundsDeep
* FaceHeelTurn: Betrayed his gang for the treasure and made a deal with Mayor Jones.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Read EvilIsNotAToy above.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He seems polite and intricate, though he's usually prone to backhanded compliments, and will drop the polite demeanor if things particularly aren't going his way.
* FeatheredFiend: Type D. Remember the cute little parrot in the picture? Yeah, he's about tripled in size over the years.
* FeatherFingers: He calls himself a fingerless bird, but he's perfectly capable of using his wings as hands.
* FriendlyEnemy: In the first season he doesn't actually hate the new Mystery Inc. and actually helps them several times, of course this is because it also helps him. In fact, the few times he actually comes into conflict with them, he's not actually targeting them, he's targeting Fred's dad. This changes dramatically in the second season.
* HannibalLecture: The gang gets one from him in "Howl of the Fright Hound".
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: In the present he has narrow, shifty eyes, but in the past, he had rounder and wider eyes. He also lacked discernible pupils in the past, but in the present his good eye's [[HellishPupils pupil is a vertical slit]].
** In the finale, after the Nibiru entity's destruction and the creation of a new reality, he has the wide and round eyes from his younger self.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Thanks to Fred Jones. Sr, he has a prominent scar across his left eye, which is whited out.
* GratuitousGerman: According to Pericles himself in "Wrath of the Krampus", he is originally from Germany, wistfully referring to it as "the old country." Many times, he has peppered his speech with various German words and phrases. As of Season 2, he has taken to referring to the gang as "the ''kinder''", which is German for "children." He orders his Kriegstaffelbots around entirely in German as well, and tends to slip into it more and more the angrier he gets.
** The pinacle of this is when he shouts "Adler- und Gänseblümchen!" at a computer... is it getting crap past the radar by ForeignCussWord? No. But still quite [[StealthPun flowery]] (and birdy) [[BilingualBonus language]].
* IntellectualAnimal
* KnightOfCerebus: Episodes where he's involved are inevitably more serious.
* ManipulativeBastard: He spent Episode 16 duping Scooby into helping him find the map for a cursed treasure.
* MeaningfulName: The Greek general/politician he's named after was supposed to have a slightly deformed head. Professor Pericles has a greatly inflated head, and an evil scar.
** PunnyName: And in Spanish, "parrot" translates as "perico", so "Pericles the parrot" would be "Pericles el perico".
* {{Metaphorgotten}}: After Ricky complains that Pericles is costing him money and has apparently killed 29 of his scientists with his experiments, Pericles gives him a much more dark example than usual.
--->'''Pericles:''' Ricky, one cannot make a genius omelet without breaking a few worthless eggs, right, Brad and Judy? ''(After they answer)'' And make no mistake Ricky, I will break any egg that gets in my way. Ed Machine, Cassidy Williams, or perhaps even you.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He knew full well about the treasure but played dumb to manipulate the original Mystery Inc into finding the pieces for him. He then intended to betray them but Mayor Jones betrayed him first, leaving him with a scar.
* OlderThanTheyLook: His lifespan is apparently similar to real life parrots. He's been alive since at least the 30s.
* OverlyNarrowSuperlative: "I am the smartest criminal parrot in the world!"
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's small, yes, but once knocked Ricky Owens, an overweight adult human, flat on his back with a single backhand-er, wing.
* PollyWantsAMicrophone
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: A non-fatal version. After he's finished helping betray the original Mystery Inc., [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness he outlived his usefulness to]] [[BigBad Mayor Jones]]. Jones then knocked him out, scarred his eye, and locked him up in an insane asylum for 20 years.
* ScarsAreForever: Was given to him by Mayor Jones.
* ScoobyDooHoax: In Episode 23.
* TheSociopath: When afflicted by the curse.
* SoftSpokenSadist
* StupidJetpackHitler: While he never outright expresses Nazi ideology, he's an evil German parrot who's been alive since the 1930's. His Kriegstaffelbots, which he hijacked from Abigail Gluck, are evocative of SS soldiers, and Velma even calls them "World War II-era [robots]".
* TheSvengali
* TalkingAnimal
* TeamPet: For the old Mystery Incorporated. Specifically he belonged to Ricky Owens/Mr. E.
* TokenEvilTeammate: For the old Mystery Inc. Made especially clear in the finale. He betrayed them and worked with Mayor Jones to blackmail their families so that he could get a treasure.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the Nibiru entity's destruction and the creation of a new reality, Pericles is still Ricky's pet and the advertising mascot for his company. He also has no scar and speaks in a cheerful, goofy voice.
* TheUnfettered: He's quite willing to do ''anything'' to accomplish his goals, and has quite the body count.
* VillainousBreakdown: Becomes much more unhinged after "Wrath of Krampus" and more prone to psychotic outbursts.
* WouldHurtAChild: In the episode before the finale, he reaches new depths of depravity after having one of his Kriestaffelbots murder Hot Dog Water in cold blood.

!!Mr. E/Ricky Owens
!!!Voiced by: LewisBlack, Creator/ScottMenville as a teenager
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mr__E_6963.jpg]]

* AmbiguouslyEvil: We don't know enough about his motivations to really determine whether he's an actual villain or not. His total unconcern for the gang's safety (see OmniscientMoralityLicense bellow for an example) suggests he's a NominalHero ''at best'', though for all we know he could be something [[ManipulativeBastard much worse]].
** In the second season he crosses the line into much more clear-cut villainy, though whether he really does have the ultimately good intention of saving the lives of everyone in Crystal Cove, as he claims to Velma and Marcie, making him a WellIntentionedExtremist, or just wants power for himself, as he says to Professor Pericles. With the revelation that the Entity influences minds, further complicates the matter as to whether it was making him more self-serving, or just deluding him into thinking he was doing good by finding it.
* {{Badass}}: He is indeed both a threat to the gang, as well as the HyperCompetentSidekick to Professor Pericles.
* BatmanGambit: The Alice May mystery was staged by Mr. E so that the gang would discover the yearbook with the picture of the original Mystery Inc. and start looking into the real mystery under Crystal Cove.
** Mr. E does it again in Episode 25 -- in order to bait Prof. Pericles, he hires Alice May again to mess with the gang.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Professor Pericles in the second season, though Pericles is clearly the dominant force among the two.
* CardCarryingVillain: After teaming up with Pericles, he actually at one point referred to himself as evil.
* CastingGag: Creator/ScottMenville voiced Shaggy in ''WesternAnimation/ShaggyAndScoobyDooGetAClue''. Now he's voicing Shaggy's counterpart in the predecessor Mystery Inc.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Is the head of [[MegaCorp Destroido]], and thus responsible for all its environmental damage and dangerous products. Though he's said that he's willing to destroy his own company if it means getting his hands on the pieces of the disc.
** He seems to change his mind about the time of The Horrible Herd. He spends the entire episode griping about Pericles wasting Destroido's money and scientists on mutant cattle and missile launchers.
* TheDragon: To Professor Pericles.
* DeathSeeker: By the end of the series, Ricky is looking forward to the fact that he believes none of them are going to survive.
* DeusExMachina: Half the time Mr. E contacts the kids, it's not to advance his own agenda but to grant them a clue from "on high". Although, considering we know next to nothing ''about'' him, it may all be part of an [[ArcWelding even bigger plan.]]
** Though with FridgeBrilliance when you realize that if the gang didn't survive/solve the little mysteries, then they wouldn't unravel the big one about Fred Jones Sr being the Freak and taking Fred from Brad and Judy, and Pericles and the disc, and, well, everything! If he hadn't helped, they wouldn't have done what he wanted later.
** Of course, why he would want all that out in the open is still up in the air...
* EnemyWithin: He lost his good side to the Sitting Room.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: As the series reaches its end he becomes disgusted with Pericles, at first because of PragmaticVillainy, and eventually because of the atrocities he's caused.
** Later, he has a HeelRealization where he realizes that Cassidy was right about the treasure and the curse, and refused to order the deaths of the townspeople for Pericles (though the evil parrot forced him to via ColdBloodedTorture). He also expresses regret at Hot Dog Water's death via HeroicSacrifice to delay them from following Mystery Inc., and has his own HeroicSacrifice saving the kids from the Nibiru entity.
* EvilCounterpart: To Shaggy.
* EvilGenius: Very intelligent, though not to Pericles extent. Often forming Gambits, and manipulating behind the scenes, in addition to creating his own company. He also can perform plastic surgery.
* EvilPlan: Not sure what it is exactly but it's driving the MythArc.
* FatBastard: After the CosmicRetcon removing all the evil, he's considerably thinner and resembles his younger self more.
* FigureItOutYourself: At one point, Shaggy just asks Mr. E if he could give them a straight answer instead of a weird riddle.
--> '''Mr. E:''' Where's the fun in that?
* HeelFaceTurn: Attempts one in Gates of Gloom when he refuses to order the deaths of the townspeople. A few good doses of cobra venom, however, put a stop to it reeeaaaal fast.
* HeroicSacrifice: Saves the gang from the Nibiru Entity but is killed by it seconds later. As with all its other victims, he's brought back to life when its erased from existence.
* IdentityConcealmentDisposal: In the second season, once his identity has been revealed, he usually just shows up in person rather than use the various convoluted methods of communication he did in the first season.
* {{Leitmotif}}
* LoveRedeems: It's ultimately his love for Cassidy that breaks the curse's hold on him.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Subverted, while he seems to believe this, considering that he nearly kills the gang with Alice May in order to lure out Professor Pericles, ultimately he does not consider himself a "hero" and later calls himself evil.
* OnlySaneMan: Among his cohorts in the second season (Pericles, Brad, and Judy), he's the only one who the curse corrupted to just evil rather than to ''insanity''.
* PetTheDog: Can briefly be seen looking at pictures of Cassidy in "The Devouring", possibly hinting at regret for her death.
** Gates of Gloom reveals that ''he actually didn't know she was dead.'' He was looking at her pictures because he was getting worried that he hadn't heard from her. He gets another Pet the Dog after he finds this out, by refusing to order the deaths of the people of Crystal Cove. [[ColdBloodedTorture It doesn't end well. ]]
* PragmaticVillainy: In episode 43, "The Horrible Herd", he outright tells Pericles that he has gone too far with his plan this time, mainly because the cattle had apparently EATEN 29 of his scientists, and the money they had cost (in addition to having to explain it) rather than moral concerns.
* PunnyName[=/=]MeaningfulName: Well, his pseudonym is this, not his real name.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Finally turns good and protects the Gang from the Nibiru Entity, saving them but being eaten by it in the process. Thankfully, this is undone with its destruction.
* RestrainingBolt: In "The Devouring," Professor Pericles implants mutated cobra venom in his spine, which he can release small doses of with the press of a button whenever Ricky steps out of line.
* TheReveal: In episode 21, we find out that he's Ricky Owens of the original Mystery Inc, and also the former owner of Professor Pericles.
* RevealingCoverup: Threatens the kids over the locket they found, thereby ensuring they'll investigate it. Which was likely what he was going for.
** A more bizarre example is through the messages in Shaggy's bag of chips, despite having no way of knowing if they'd receive them or in what order they'd be found in.
* TheSociopath: When afflicted by the curse. Unlike Pericles, Brad, Judy, and Fred Jones Sr., however, Mr. E is able to break free of this ''before'' the curse's undoing.
* TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat:
** Holds a two-way conversation via car radio... ''when the other party has no discernable microphone''.
* TokenGoodTeammate: After Cassidy dies, the role went to Brad and Judy, but once they became thoroughly corrupted, Ricky gains the position instead, coming to realize the error of his and the others' ways and attempting to put a stop to it.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the Nibiru entity's destruction and the creation of a new reality, he's a much better, happier, and skinnier person, and his company is dedicated to helping the environment rather than hurting it.
* TricksterMentor
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Shown in a flashback in episode 33
* TheVoice: Until we see who he really is in episode 21.
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: No emails yet, but he apparently knows the gang's phone numbers and addresses.
** He communicated through a computer in episode 15 though.
* TheWatcher

!!Ed Machine
!!!Voiced by: Richard [=McGonagle=]
* AloneWithThePsycho: With Pericles in Episode 26. True to the trope, Angel tries to call and warn him, but his phone's in the car.
* BigDamnHeroes: Episode 26, he shows up in his car and saves Scooby and Shaggy from the Freak.
* BigFancyHouse: Lives in one and dies in it too.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He's the head of Destroido, which is among other things guilty of using landfill waste as an ingredient for snack products. Though he may only be the face of it, as he works for Mr. E, and in season 2, Mr. E calls it [his] company, and later says that he build it.
* TheDragon: To Mr. E.
* EnemyWithin: He lost his good side to the Sitting Room.
* EnigmaticMinion
* EnragedByIdiocy: When trying to cryptically deliver a clue to Daphne by pushing a book out of a shelf, hoping she'd open it. She puts it back in, and he pushes it out again, this process repeats itself, before Ed finally yells at her to open it, and running away before she, or the audience, sees him.
* KilledOffForReal: WordOfGod confirms he was killed by Professor Pericles.
** However, considering the Nibiru Entity's demise erased it from existence, it's likely he was brought back to life along with all its other victims.
* NotSoStoic: A few times, like when Daphne doesn't take a hint, or when the Cicada monster attacks him or when Pericles kills him.
* NothingIsScarier: It's never revealed exactly ''what'' Pericles did to him. We just get a ScreamDiscretionShot, and WordOfGod confirms that he didn't survive the encounter.
* ScreamDiscretionShot: The last we see of him is him being asked to deliver a message to Mr. E by Professor Pericles. Pericles then confesses he doesn't mean to ''say'' anything. Cut to outside the house with sounds of wings flapping and Ed screaming.
* TheStoic

!!Brad Chiles and Judy Reeves
!!!Voiced by: Tim Matheson and Tia Carrere, Creator/NolanNorth and KariWahlgren as teenagers
* [[ArchnemesisDad Archnemesis Parents]]: As of ''Wrath of Krampus'', Fred seems to view them as such. In the next episode, he actually calls them even more evil than his fake dad!
* BitchInSheepsClothing: They act nice and polite to the gang, but do questionable things behind their backs.
* CoDragons: To Professor Pericles. As Mr.E unhappily found out when he got a snake implanted into his spine.
* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: Mayor Jones had threatened Fred's life to force them to stay away from Crystal Cove.
* ADayInTheLimelight: In "Grim Judgement".
* DealWithTheDevil: They try this in the finale. It doesn't end well for them.
* EnemyWithin: They lost their good sides to the Sitting Room.
* EvilCounterpart: Increasingly so to Fred and Daphne. The Man in the Mirror has them go so far as plastic surgery to impersonate them.
* FaceHeelTurn
* FinishingEachOthersSentences: Part of the full SickeninglySweethearts package.
* TheHero[=/=]TheChick: Seem to have served these respective roles in the original Mystery, Inc.
* {{Knight Templar Parent}}s: They've insisted on several occasions that their actions are "for Freddy's own good".
** Considering they joined up with Pericles after he said Fred and co. found two pieces of the Planespheric Disks (prompting a "No!" from Judy), their evil actions are trying to steal all the pieces from Fred, and those pieces have been repeatedly established to corrupt people with greed and evil, they might just have a point here.
** DidntThinkThisThrough: Unfortunately, despite Cassidy's warning, they press on with this course of action and the predictable outcome happens: in trying to save Fred from corruption, ''they'' become corrupted themselves, and end up so uncaring that they willingly hurt the son they wanted to protect in order to get to the treasure.
* InTheBlood: Fred's lack of intelligence but brilliance when it comes to traps? It comes from them.
* {{Jerkass}}: More and moreso as they become more corrupted by the curse.
* LukeIAmYourFather: They're Fred's real parents.
* PetTheDog: In spite of their villain status, they do at least seem to truly love Fred. At one point when breaking into Velma's room to find the disk pieces, they stop to fawn over how cute their son looks in a group picture Velma has. They also really admire his trap-making skills, even when having to bypass these traps themselves.
** However, once they get closer to the treasure (see the below trope), their love for Fred decreases as the treasure influences them. When closest to the treasure, they only ''barely'' acknowledge him to be their son at all!
* SanitySlippage: All people who are involved with the curse go insane with evil and greed, but with Brad and Judy, we actually get to ''see'' the entire process. Compare them in their debut - two people who love each other and care for their son (despite being emotionally distant from him since they never got to raise him) and have a fondness for their old friends, to them in the finale - two utter psychopaths who don't care about their son at all, gleefully backstab their old friends without a second thought, and even turn hateful toward each other in the end.
* SickeninglySweethearts
** Until they're closest to the treasure, in which they become petty and hateful toward each other.
* TheSociopath: Both of them when afflicted by the curse.
* SurgicalImpersonation: Of Fred (by Brad) and an older Daphne (by Judy), in ''The Man in the Mirror'' and Pericles doesn't care enough to have it undone, to their great distress and mutual sniping.
* TokenGoodTeammate: After Cassidy's death, they both seemed to fill the role due to the following factors: Even if they are doing questionable things, they still worry about Fred's safety and believe that owning all the disk pieces will make it safer for him, and they don't initially seem to be aware of that Cassidy is dead, or that Pericles was responsible- When asked about her status, they were told she's "no longer a concern".
** As the season progresses, they show more of their evil side and Mr. E takes on the role instead. Concern for Fred's safety is now nil - they shoot down his helicopter with a rocket launcher, they call Pericles a genius when he all but states that he has murdered Cassidy and has no qualms about doing the same to E, and betray Mr. E when he tries to get their help dealing with Pericles.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the Nibiru entity's destruction and the creation of a new reality, they are dual obstetricians and are actually good parents to Fred who lovingly raised him, as shown by a picture on the wall of them with Fred as a toddler.
* WalkingSpoiler: They don't even get mentioned until the season 1 finale and ''then'' that's when things go downhill.

!!The Nibiru Entity
!!!Voiced by: Creator/ClancyBrown
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nibiru_6979.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:300:[[labelnote:Click here to see his physical form]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/300px-the_evil_entity_1120.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]
* BiggerBad: He is the indirect cause of the whole plot by being the source of corruption among the original Mystery Inc. and all of the monsters. However, due to being sealed, he is unable to become a direct influence, with Mayor Jones, Pericles, and Mr. E. serving as the main villains instead.
* BigNo: When Scooby and the Gang shatter the crystal sarcophagus, which he was using as a medium to draw power from another dimension, resulting in his demise.
* BreakThemByTalking: His "Group I Am Your Author" talk makes them hesitate long enough for Pericles to arrive and set him free.
* TheChessmaster: Has spent untold years manipulating, corrupting, and scheming, all working towards getting someone to release him from his prison.
* TheCorrupter: He's the ManBehindTheMan to every other villain in the show.
* DarkIsEvil
* DeaderThanDead: The Gang destroy the crystal sarcophagus, causing the dimensional link he'd created through it to collapse into a black hole, sucking in and obliterating him. As a result, he and his taint on Crystal Cove are erased from history.
* DeathByIrony: Spends untold centuries manipulating and corrupting mystery solving teams, especially the TeamPet. In the end, he meets his end at the hands of one of them, with the TeamPet putting the final nail in the coffin (quite literally).
* EldritchAbomination: Inverted. The thing in the coffin is part of a race of beings called Annunaki, interdimensional beings who have no physical forms on Earth so they inhabited the bodies of animals. Most of the Annunaki have willingly aided humanity in its growth and are generally benevolent, but the thing in the coffin is said to be one of a few negative Annunaki, only this one is considered the most evil of them all. The form it takes when possessing Pericles's body, however, plays this straighter (it has a giant head like Pericles, scar and all, only with horns and a fanged beak, and a large number of squidlike tentacles).
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: It is never really referred to as anything other that "Evil Entity".
* EvilSoundsDeep
* {{Expy}}:
** {{Satan}}: While not literally, he definitely has all the qualities of Old Scratch, being a member of a benevolent race of incorporeal entities who help humanity that became purely evil and was imprisoned. He spends the series corrupting and tainting all those who come in contact with his influence. The fact his prison is in a hellish, lava filled cave and he brings about HellOnEarth upon his liberation.
** Also an ancient evil extraterrestrial / extradimensional being that rests deep beneath an (inter-dimensional) ocean and will rise when ''the stars are right'', as Nibiru is a planetary alignment, destroy all humanity and it's physical form is squid-like? Also his influence causes morality to devolve, not to mention BadDreams? Franchise/{{Cthulhu|Mythos}}.
** Another one. What other EldritchAbomination do we know that, manipulates events in the town it possesses, claims to be a PlanetEater, has a taste for humans, not limited to BlueAndOrangeMorality, ''and'' can only be killed by the PowerOfFriendship between the protagonists - Sounds alot like Pennywise/IT, doesn't it?
** Yet ''another'' example. A thousand year old being [[LivingShadow seemingly made of shadows]] who lives beneath the primary location, is responsible for its foundation, and [[TheManBehindTheMan created all of the villains/monsters the protagonists face]]. He's also waiting for a specific date so he can consume everyone in the region and [[AGodAmI gain godlike power.]] On said day, however, he gets defeated by [[ThePowerOfFriendship the combined efforts of all the heroes]] and is sucked through a dimensional gateway to his doom. [[Manga/FullMetalAlchemist Father]], anyone?
* GoodHurtsEvil: ThePowerOfFriendship between the gang repels and hurts him.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: It was partly via his manipulations the Gang came together. They're ultimately the ones who kill him, with Scooby-Doo, the animal mascot (the one that usually fell to corruption first), striking the final blow.
* IAmNotWeasel: The thing inside the sarcophagus is not actually called Nibiru. Nibiru is the name given to the period when Earth and the Annunaki's homeworld are able to interact with one another.
* KnightOfCerebus: The story becomes ''dark'', even by its already dark standards for a Scooby-Doo series, when things begin building towards his release and AnyoneCanDie is in full effect. [[FromBadToWorse Then he's freed from his prison and proceeds to let loose a]] WorldWreckingWave [[FromBadToWorse that reduces Crystal Cove to a flaming ruin before he]] ''[[ImAHumanitarian eats the]]'' '''''[[ImAHumanitarian entire]]''''' ''[[ImAHumanitarian town]]'' '''''[[ImAHumanitarian ONSCREEN]]'''''. And considering his being [[RetGone erased]] [[DeaderThanDead from existence]] turns the world into a LighterAndSofter setting, it seems safe to say he's the ''reason'' the show was so dark, making him this on a Meta level.
* LargeHam: He arguably eats [[ChewingTheScenery as much scenery as he does people]].
* LivingShadow: When he's finally released from his prison, he appears as a living mass of shadows until he possesses Pericles' body.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Episode 47 revealed that Pericles is actively working to find the cursed treasure so he may free the thing in the crystal sarcophagus, which he refers to as "master." Given the reoccurring trend of animal mascots betraying their groups and that Annunaki can only inhabit the forms of animals, it's possible that the being inside the crystal coffin had been systematically mind raping or corrupting the talking animal mascots of the mystery groups that found the Planispheric Disc so it could have a physical agent to free it (and episode 46 reveals that talking animals are descended from Annunaki hosts, which probably made this easier to do to the animals than the people).
* MythologyGag: Compare his non-physical appearance to [[http://25.media.tumblr.com/98167b17b70ac9e252d2638e3a97b8c0/tumblr_mkvzfwLxYQ1s2ypolo1_1280.jpg the other appearances of sinister eyes]] in previous Scooby-Doo series.
* NoNameGiven: He's only referred to as The Evil Entity in the series proper.
* OhCrap: When he sees Scooby launch a spear on a collision course with what amounts to his SoulJar and there's nothing he can do about it.
* OmnicidalManiac: The Annunaki in Nova states that his goal is consume humanity to gain increased power and eventually destroy the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, and it itself claims that it will devour entire GALAXIES!
* OneWingedAngel: Goes from an already terrifying LivingShadow to a squid-like EldritchAbomination capable of reducing Crystal Cove to flaming ruin in seconds.
* RetGone: When he's sucked into the portal formed by the crystal sarcophagus' destruction, eradicating him from existence and rewriting history as if he'd never influenced Crystal Cove.
* SealedEvilInACan: Trapped inside a crystal sarcophagus, but it seems to be influencing events in order to escape.
** After he escapes, he turns into a connection to another dimension to summon his {{Mook}}s and draw strength. Unfortunately for him, this means that destroying it takes him with it, erasing him from existence.
* ThisCannotBe: His reaction to Scooby and the Gang shattering the Crystal Sarcophagus, triggering a reaction that erases him from existence.
* TimeAbyss: We have no idea how old this thing really is.
* ToServeMan: It devours all of Crystal Cove to feed off their energies and grow more powerful.
* UltimateEvil: Spends most of the series as a SealedEvilInACan, influencing everything from behind the scenes in terrible ways, and only being known to the audience as a demonic voice. He finally manifests in the finale and manages to be every bit as terrifying as he was made out to be.
* VillainousBreakdown: He goes from AGodAmI to OhCrap when he realizes Scooby just fired an attack that is going to destroy the Crystal Sarcophagus. He then continues to [[ThisCannotBe scream in disbelief as the imploding interdimensional portal sucks him to his doom.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: [[LiteralMinded Floating]] actually.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Velma believes that the evil Annunaki's imprisonment under Crystal Cove is the reason for all the losers in monster costumes, and when the entity is destroyed, and all its evil undone, she is proven correct, as all the mysteries the gang solved over the series have instead never occurred, and life in Crystal Cove is better for pretty much EVERYONE! Subverted for the gang themselves, because they ''liked'' having mysteries to solve.

!!Alice May
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HyndenWalch

* {{Badass}}: As Obliteratrix.
* TheBusCameBack: Came back in episode 25 as part of Mr. E's plan to get Pericles out into the open.
* DarkActionGirl: As Obliteratrix has a degree of knowledge about unarmed combat and acrobatics.
* DaddysLittleVillain: Alice May[=/=]Carlswell, daughter of The Creeper....except not, as it's revealed this is actually a lie orchestrated by Mr. E. to get an old yearbook.
* {{Expy}}: Looks alot like [[Franchise/SpiderMan Gwen Stacy.]]
* HammerSpace: Obliteratrix. This was [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded by Shaggy.]]
--> '''Shaggy''': Like, where does she keep getting these weapons?! That outfit has no pockets!
* LatexPerfection: Even more than usual; in the intro to "The Legend of Alice May", Alice is apparently wearing a mask of her face over a Ghost Girl mask over her ''actual'' face.
* LittleMissConArtist: In her first appearance, with her con about being the Creeper's daughter.
* MsFanservice: As Obliteratrix. Her {{Stripperific}} outfit leave little space to immagination.
* MysteriousMercenaryPursuer: She could be considered to be one Obliteratrix invokes this.
* NightmareFetishist: Despite her jealousy at Fred's attention toward her, Daphne has nothing against Alice initially...not until ''this'' aspect of her personality reveals itself. Afterwards, Daphne is rightfully suspicious of her.
* PetTheDog: She's one of the many jailed criminals in "Wrath of Krampus" who plays her part in the gang's own ScoobyDooHoax, even if it is just running "scared" as the Krampus destroys the cafeteria while "kidnapping" someone. Mr. E ought to have posted her bail again...
* RetGone: In the new reality created by the Nibiru entity's destruction, the masked villains of Crystal Cove all have lived good and normal lives instead of becoming masked villains. Alice May is even shown (in flashback form) among the examples when Velma talks about it.
* {{Stripperific}}: She was wearing a high-tech black leather dominatrix-type of costume arranged in rings around her body.

!!Baylor Hotner
!!!Voiced by: Matt Lanter Creator/MarkHamill as Crybaby Clown

* BitchInSheepsClothing
* CastingGag: A trifecta!
** First, Matt Lanter played the Edward Cullen expy in a ''Twilight'' parody, so having him play a parody of a ''Twilight'' actor seems fitting.
** Second, Creator/MarkHamill plays a clown when his [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries best known voice acting role]] [[SelfDemonstrating/TheJoker was a clown]].
** Finally, Matt Lanter voiced Anakin Skywalker [[StarWarsTheCloneWars at one point]]. Creator/MarkHamill was of course, Luke. This means Crybaby Clown is his [[LukeIAmYourFather own father.]]
* CutLexLuthorACheck: He kidnaps a host of people for his personal staff for the set of his new movie, and Daphne to be his small town girlfriend for the press... when he could have easily hired those people to come with him and Daphne was already coming with him.
* {{Expy}}: Of ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' star TaylorLautner
* MonsterClown: Crybaby Clown
* MrFanservice: He is a parody of TaylorLautner after all.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: While a jerk, he's not the monster until "Theater of Doom".

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Gary pretends to have been hurt by Ethan's remarks, but admits he was just messing with him.
* {{Jerkass}}: Both of them.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: When Ethan realizes he might have hurt Gary's feelings, he apologizes and feels bad, when Gary reveals he was screwing with him, Ethan gets embarrassed.
* LargeHam: As Hebediah Grim.
-->'''''"YOU SHALL BE JUDGED!"'''''
* SlutShaming: A more child friendly subversion. Hebediah Grim repeatedly assaults girls because of their necklines, leg exposure, or make-up because he's a Puritan Judge. However, it's all just a ploy to get Gary and Ethan the girls, whom they're attracted to implicitly because of these qualities.
** He curiously absolves Velma of any indiscretions, but only because he thinks she's homely.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Though they don't like each other.
* TooDumbToLive: They thought climbing a mesa with their soccer ball would help them win the game. When they play Hebediah Grim they plant a yearbook on a patsy, with their names on the book. In addition, the video they have setting up Gary's alibi that Ethan accesses has both him and Ethan on it, meaning it was recorded earlier.
* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler:Their ultimate fate, without the negative influence, they turn out to be pretty nice and friendly, at least to Fred, complimenting him on winning their game.]]

!!Various Monsters
* {{Badass}}: Let's just say these are much more than just people in costumes.
* ButterFace: Aphrodite.Surprisingly, her real face is quite the opposite.
* CoveredInSlime: The Slime Mutant. The radioactivity of said slime borders on ILoveNuclearPower.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: A few of them. The Phantom of Episode 7, for example, decides to skip the ScoobyDoobyDoors chase and instead sets fire to the trailer Scooby and Shaggy are in.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Many are guilty of this, particularly the villain from episode 10.
--> "I saw how you picked on my son, so I did what any mother would do! I BUILT A ROBOT DOG TO DESTROY YOU!!"
* EldritchAbomination: Char Gar Gothacon is a parody of Cthulhu.
* EnemyMine: The Gang consults Mary Ann Gleardon to help in their plan against Pericles. Later, all of them join forces with the people of Crystal Cove to fight the Kriegstaffebots.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: The Scarebear runs rampage at the Destroido charity Ball, and the Gang finds a bomb, when its announced, the Scarebear immediately stops, and voices his confusion at it, outing him as a person in a suit, and admitting that he wouldn't go so far as to blow the place up he's just a victim of the company with an out of control hair problem, the "suit," and didn't want to hurt anyone.
* EvilPlan: And some of the most ridiculous, [[GambitRoulette overly complicated]] ones you've ever heard at that. It's lampshaded of course.
--> "I made a Wild Brood costume of my own! Form that point on, all I had to do was steal a rocket launcher, grab someone to hack a computer to divert the train, reroute said train, board the train from a moving motorcycle, defeat the train's security system, blow up the bridge the train was on which would cause the Swordfish consoles on board to be destroyed in a massive trainwreck, ruining your careers, and hopefully giving rise to my own in the process! [[BlatantLies Simple!]]"
--> '''Shaggy:''' "........Dude. Seriously?"
** Or the one that says that suing would take too long and then proceeds to list off a plan that rivals Freddy's traps in complexity.
* {{Expy}}:
** The Fright Hound is a canine version of the Terminator, right down to it theme music, its attack on a police station, and the way it's false skin is shredded to reveal the robot underneath.
** Char Gar Gothacon and HP Hatecraft are parodies of Cthulhu and HP Lovecraft respectively.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Just about ''anybody'' in this series can become a monstrous villain, even the children!
* GiantEnemyCrab: The Man-Crab
* GracefulLoser: Odnarb tried to woo Daphne for the entire episode, in the end she leaves him for Fred, but at the end, his expression shows he's happy for her.
** After Danny Darrow is beaten and trapped, he compliments Fred on the execution and admires his work, then he goes completely nonchalant and gives the team exposition and letting them leave his house.
* HarmlessVillain: Invoked with the Dandy Highwayman, who is perhaps the least threatening villain in the franchise and the guy who dressed up as him did so to find some excitement in his life and impress women.
* HauntedTechnology: The Ghost Rig, as in tractor-trailer
* KillerRobot: The Frighthound, an EvilTwin of Scooby-Doo!
* LoveGoddess: Aphrodite, though her face averts the standard idea of such a being being gorgeous beyond words...
* MagicMusic: Que Horrifico uses a pan-flute to "spookify" children, turning them into goblin-like creatures. The music of the Ska-zombies zomifies people and makes them dance uncontrollably until they break down.
* MamaBear: Mrs. Wyatt, to frightening extremes.
* MonsterOfTheWeek
* NoNonsenseNemesis: Several of them, but the Phantom stands out. When Shaggy and Scooby try to escape him with ScoobyDoobyDoors, the Phantom elects to simply set fire to the trailer they're in. Shaggy and Scooby just barely get out, and as soon as they do, the trailer ''explodes''.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: For all of his non-threatening LovableRogue antics, The Dandy Highway man still steals money (though he doesn't seem interested in it), and has blown up several cars. He's not ''lethal'', but he is certainly skilled.
* OurGnomesAreWeirder: The Scary Gnome
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: We got two here. We got your scary merfolk in the Fish Freaks. We get totally blue skin mermaid with blue-purple hair and white eyes in Amy the Siren.
* OurOrcsAreDifferent: Notable in that none of the Wild Brood biker-orcs are the villain, but instead it's an imposter trying to frame them.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: This one's after a youth serum
* PlayingWithFire: Lord Infericus
* RetGone: After the Nibiru entity is destroyed, it is erased from history, causing all the mysteries the gang solved to have never occurred at all, thus making it so that the fake monsters had more normal lives.
* RealAfterAll:The Mummy of Friar Serra, although there ''was'' someone impersonating him.
* RhymesOnADime: The Phantom, who also had a slight tendency to [[PlayingWithFire play with fire]]. The rhyming is partially justified, because he is a professional song-writer. Only one of his rhymes was spur-of-the-moment. The others could have been prepared in advance.
* ScoobyDooHoax: Albeit ''very'' convincing ones.
* SiblingRivalry: The red and green Humongonauts
* TrapMaster: Danny Darrow in "Escape from Mystery Manor" and also the ONLY villain who wasn't in some sort of costume.
* WorldOfBadass: Crystal Cove, given most of these guys are its citizens.
* TheWormThatWalks: The Cicada Creature.

!!Kriegstaffelbots
!!!Voiced By: Creator/DeeBradleyBaker
* AIIsACrapshoot: Averted, they were programmed to search for the piece, then they were programmed to attack the Gang, then they were programmed for all sorts of enforcing and Odd-jobs, never having more sentience than to accomplish their jobs in different ways, or trying to avoid death.
* AllJustADream: Their appearance in Stand and Deliver is revealed to be this.
* ArmCannon: The initial Batch weren't armed, but their future appearances have them. In Scooby's dream their arm is a mini-gun, but in the real world, the mini-gun comes out of the wrist. The six under Nibiru's control demonstrate the cannon replacing their arm. The initial batch were built by Abigail Gluck of the Benevolent Lodge of Mystery, and likely that's why they were unarmed. Future robots were likely built at Destroido, and Pericles wanted to make some additions.
* {{Expy}}: They share design similarities to the [[VideoGame/{{Killzone}} the Helghast soldiers]].
* FamilyFriendlyFirearms: Their [[GatlingGood gatling guns]] sometimes make gun noises, and sometimes make laser noises, most appearances have them making both[[note]] regular noises when firing, laser noises when hitting a target[[/note]], sometimes they only sound like lasers like when Scooby used them, and sometimes they only sound like gunfire like when they shoot Marcie to death.
* GatlingGood: See ArmCannon.
* GratuitousGerman: During the few times they do speak,
* MechaMooks
* NoWaterproofingInTheFuture: Averted, these bots were built in an undersea lab and they freely move around in the water. They were initially commissioned to search through the underwater ruins to find a disk piece.
* [[OffWithHisHead Off with its Head]]: Several die this way, notably the first one to appear, and the last one to appear are both dispatched this way by Cassidy and Ricky respectively.
* PuttingOnTheReich: Their design invokes this, implying that Abigail Gluck was a Nazi.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: and Green when the Nibiru Entity takes them over.
* RetGone: Possibly, they aren't active and don't serve Pericles in the new Time line, but they may have been built by Abigail Gluck while she was alive for presumably more noble purposes.
* SelfDestructMechanism: After Cassidy knocks off the head of the first Kriegstaffelbot, it self destructs, using a German Countdown sequence, she doesn't die, but the recording studio is destroyed.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other characters]]
!!Angel Dynamite/Cassidy Williams
!!!Voiced by: Vivica Fox, Kimberly Brooks as a teenager
[[quoteright:256:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/256px-Angel_dynamite_4444.png]]

* AwesomeMcCoolname: But it's not her real name, is it?
* {{Badass}}: Barely flinched when a giant, German robot broke through the wall of her radio station, and then proceeded to use a microphone stand to destroy the robot. Which then self-destructed, destroying K-Ghoul. Then she blew another one away with a shotgun, the sixth time she'd dispatched such a robot.
* BackFromTheDead: The destruction of the Nibiru Entity removes its influence from time. As a result, she's restored and HappilyMarried to Ricky.
* BareYourMidriff
* BlackAndNerdy: Back in her Mystery Inc. days.
* BlackBestFriend: To Mystery Inc. The relationship gets rocky in Season 2, but they still come to help when whe's in danger.
* DiscoDan: She's the most visible example of the show's "[[TheNewTens Cyber]][[TheSeventies Funk]]" [[{{Retraux}} retro-modern aesthetic]]. Both her outfit and her home stopped aging after TheSeventies.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: She told Velma her real identity but doesn't want to tell the others until the time is right...doesn't this seem familiar from, I don't know, ''the first ten episodes with Velma hiding something also?''
** She tells them in episode 25. Fred immediately calls out on how she kept this a secret from the gang. Whether or not he holds the same feelings to Velma--since she kept this a secret for quite some time--is unknown.
** Daphne and Fred hold great resentment for Velma keeping this all a secret.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome
* {{Expy}}: She is pretty much Scooby Doo's version of [[AustinPowers Foxy Cleopatra]].
* HeelFaceTurn: Cassidy is the only member the original Mystery Inc who had abandoned the hunt for the disc, and genuinely tried to help the next generation, and gets killed for it.
* HeroicSacrifice: Gives her life to save the gang in season 2, episode 11.
* ImportantHaircut: Gets her hair cut all the way down to a more restrained level when she decides she doesn't want anything of Mr. E's plotting anymore.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: uses Music disks as throwing stars.
* JiveTurkey
* KilledOffForReal: WordOfGod confirms it.
* MissionControl
* TheMole: She is working with Mister E, but claims to side with the current Mystery Inc so she can keep tabs on them.
* MoreThanMeetsTheEye: The ending of one of the episodes hinted at this. Episodes 20 and 21 confirm it.
* OlderSidekick: Hinted to be in her 30s. Would make sense since She was Cassidy Williams 20 years in the past.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Woman]]: In present day, she comes across as basically the only considerate member of the original Mystery Inc.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Not telling Mystery Inc about your past after Velma discovered your identity and telling her not to say anything about it ''really'' didn't help you, did it Cassidy?
* RedemptionEqualsDeath
* SassyBlackWoman: Is a ruse.
* SecretKeeper: Hinted at that she knows the MythArc mystery the gang is investigating but keeps it to herself. It's revealed in episode 20 that she's really Cassidy Williams of the original Mystery Inc and episode 21 reveals that she's working with Mr. E.
** And thanks to keeping a secret, she's now partially responsible for so much trust problems with the gang.
* SexyMentor
* ShesAllGrownUp: She looked like a typical nerd as Cassidy Williams, but now...
* TokenGoodTeammate: She's the only member of the original Mystery Inc who hasn't been corrupted by the search for the Conquistador's treasure and defies her former friends' efforts to seek it.
* TokenMinority
* TookALevelInBadass: Between the years that she was gone from Crystal Cove, she's definitely has improved.
* WasItAllALie: Fred says this to Angel when she comes clean in episode 25.

!!Sheriff Bronson Stone
!!!Voiced by: Creator/PatrickWarburton
[[quoteright:210:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_16466_6957.jpg]]

* BadCopIncompetentCop:
** At least he ''arrests'' the culprits when they're caught by the Scooby Gang... even when he shouldn't.
---> "Arrest them... even though I have absolutely ''no jurisdiction here''!"
* BreakTheCutie: You gotta feel sorry for him when Mayor Jones fired him in Episode 24. And then in Episode 26, Sheriff loses what is possibly his ''only'' friend when he finds out that the Mayor had kidnapped a baby from his parents ''and'' also being the Freak of Crystal Cove, even shedding a tear at the implications this would cause.
* ButtMonkey: Whenever the gang solves a mystery, it tends to negatively affect him in some form or another.
** This is averted in episode 24; thanks to the gang, he got his job back.
* BystanderSyndrome: He makes it clear that his job is to turn in criminals, not to catch monsters.
** There was an exception in episode 24, for good reason.
** Averted in 26; he realizes that he's going to put ''the mayor'' behind bars.
** By episode 28, he sees the Mystery Machine getting chased by Baba Yaga's house, and immediately whips his car around, turns on the siren, catches up, and cuffs the monster the second she emerges. Now ''that's'' character development.
* CharacterDevelopment: Slowly starts developing respect for the kids, especially when dealing with more dangerous or destructive monsters. Comes to a head in episode 24, where he has to go to them for help catching a ghost who wants his job.
** Also his relationship with Mayor Nettle. He starts off being antagonistic toward her, but ends up respecting her more and then flat-out ''dating her''.
** And by "Gates of Gloom" he comes to admit that he's been a terrible sheriff and leads the resistance against the robots.
* CommanderContrarian: Episode 27 has him refusing to acknowledge Janet Nettles as the new mayor in spite of the fact she was ''elected.'' He seems to think there's a clause in the sheriff's handbook which appoints ''him'' as a de facto Mayor in the case that the regular Mayor is unable to fulfill his duties.
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Dead Justice".
** Also "Aliens Among Us" might count.
* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Sheriff Has Standards]]: He dislikes the gang meddling in affairs but the ending of episode 26 indicates that he didn't take Mayor Jones kidnapping Fred from his real parents very kindly, actually crying that his only friend could do something so cruel.
* HappilyMarried: After the Nibiru Entity's demise and the resulting CosmicRetcon, he and Janet are happily married with several children.
** HarsherInHindsight: In episode 24, a joke is made about how Dead Justice is Sheriff Stone's 3rd highest ranked personal hero, after Mayor Jones and himself. [[spoiler: Really puts the sorrow he had when he found out the Freak of Crystal Cove's identity into context.]]
* HiddenDepths: Turns out he's a bit of an art aficionado. Though as fits his character, his tastes are little odd.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: Let's just say his mom was CrazyPrepared when it came to the naming department.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Much of the Sheriff's incompetence is due to the fact that his sense of reasoning is completely illogical.
* InspectorJavert: Starts growing out of it by episode 24.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's regularly on the gang's case, but he usually means well.
** Even moreso in the second season. Maybe it's because he no longer works for {{Jerkass}} Mayor Jones, but Sheriff Stone has become less and less of a jerk and more and more of a friend to Mystery Inc.
* ManlyTears: He sheds one when Mayor Jones fired him.
** And when the Mayor revealed his part of being the Freak of Crystal Cove and the horror he gained in realizing he must arrest his boss.
* OfficialCouple: With Mayor Nettles.
* OneOfTheKids: He sleeps in a ''car-shaped bed'' for crying out loud!
* TheSheriff
** It's his actual first name: Sheriff. Bronson is his middle name, apparently.
** In Episode 24, we find out that "Sheriff" is his real first name; that's because his mother believed in planning ahead.
* TookALevelInBadass: "Gates of Gloom" has him admit that he should've been a better cop and rallies the citizens to fight the monsters off.
* TooDumbToLive: "I sure hope you've got insurance, Mayor, cause - I WANNA SEE THAT AGAIN!!"
* WasItAllALie: Seems really torn up when Mayor Jones spills the beans about being the Freak.
** He probably meant the conspiracy too. Kidnapping carries a high penalty--he's going to have to arrest his boss for sure!
*** Moreover, when you realize the kidnapping was kept for at least 17 years, it means that the mayor is holding for life/execution! This might probably one of the last chances the Sheriff will even SEE the Mayor!
* [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes Why Did It Have To Be Bugs?]]: Reveals a severe phobia of creepy crawly bugs in "When The Cicada Calls".
** Seems to have a fear of geeks too, actually demanding that the Wild Brood keep their masks ON so they'd be easier to look at.

!!Skipper Shellton
!!!Voiced by: John O'Hurley

* AlliterativeName
* BadassBystander: The scene below, he had no real role in the episode, but he still stood up and defended the gang from attack.
* BigDamnHeroes: When investigating a dead robot, the gang is attacked by another near his restaurant, and he shoots a harpoon through its back disabling it. After shouting, he offers the kids some free food to compensate for the disturbance.
* OneSteveLimit: Exaggertedly averted; he and his five siblings are ''all'' Skipper Shellton.
* RecurringExtra: One of the most recurring adults who doesn't become a villain.
* RedHerring: For [[GiantEnemyCrab The Man Crab]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: When the Town was forced to mine for the entrance to the "treasure," he was the one who smashed through and found it.

!!Vincent Van Ghoul
!!!Voice by: MauriceLaMarche

* AdaptationalWimp: He has no magic powers here.
* AlternateContinuity: When he debuted in ''WesternAnimation/The13GhostsOfScoobyDoo'', he was a powerful sorcerer. Here, he's a famous horror movie actor who's been having trouble finding good roles.
* AscendedExtra: Vincent Van Ghoul appears in a MythologyGag movie series commonly seen on the television, before later appearing in person.
* CowardlyLion: In his movies, he's brave. But when Nightfright arrives in real life; he's not. But he managed to demonstrate how amazing his acting skills really are by goading Nightfright into Fred's trap by being COMPLETELY nonchalant about the monster's constant attempts at scaring him... until he drops the act and reveals how freaked out he was.
* ChronicallyKilledActor: He doesn't seem to have the best of luck in a lot of the movies we see bits of.
* {{Expy}}/ShoutOut: To Peter Vincent from the original ''Film/FrightNight1985'' (who was also based on Vincent Price)...it's even there in the name of the "ghost" he fights, Nightfright!
* GenreSavvy: He's been in so many monster/horror movies that he knows what happens in situations involving the bad guy and the hero.
** WrongGenreSavvy: He doesn't know that he's in a ''ScoobyDoo'' show.
* HiddenDepths: He's a good cook, a nice ActorAllusion to VincentPrice, said to have been an excellent chef in RealLife. (Whether Creator/MauriceLaMarche can cook, on the other hand, is undetermined as of this writing).
* LargeHam
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: This Vincent Van Ghoul is based on the same one from ''WesternAnimation/The13GhostsOfScoobyDoo'', who was based on and even voiced by VincentPrice.
* PreMortemOneLiner: In his movies, not so much in real life.
* [[WhiteDwarfStarlet White Dwarf Star]]

!!H.P. Hatecraft
!!!Voice by: Creator/JeffreyCombs
* AdultsAreUseless: Averted.
* BadassTeacher: In episode 25, he stood up to Obliteratrix/Alice May. Sure he got his butt handed to him, but he's pretty much better than most adults in the series.
* TheBusCameBack: Returned in episode 25 to help the kids figure out the writings on the Planespheric Map.
* ButtMonkey: In "Pawn Of Shadows", where he's being forced to write a teen vampire romance novel to keep up with a younger author who constantly insults him, then he gets fired.
** ThrowTheDogABone: Towards the end of the episode the dean comes back to reveal that the song Char-Gar-Gothacon, based on his book, is a massive hit in Japan, so Hatecraft get's his job back thanks to bringing all kinds of money to Darrow College.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: In-universe. Apparently [[GettingCrapPastTheRadar his books are a hit in Japan.]]
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His name, horror-writing career and speech patterns are an homage to Creator/HPLovecraft.
** And his personal nemesis is a Stephanie Meyer expy who writes the tween bestseller ''[[Literature/{{Twilight}} Dusk]]'' series. Hatecraft goes through a HeroicBSOD over how banal romance and mediocre writing is considered better literature than his well-thought out works. He gets over it when he finds out his stuff is "big in Japan" as stated above, and therefore not only gets his job back, but his nemesis is kicked out.
* IdenticalStranger: He shares aspects of the appearance of Ricky Owens, one of the original Mystery Incorporated members.
* YouShallNotPass: Tried this on Obliteratrix, but it fails. At least that's better than what most adults do in the show.

!!Marcie "Hot Dog Water" Fleach
!!!Voiced by: Creator/LindaCardellini
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marcy_8586.jpg]]
* AmbiguouslyGay: She seems to have a crush on Velma (See RomanticTwoGirlFriendship).
* AscendedExtra: Hot Dog Water appeared twice as a background/cutaway gag; [[spoiler:eventually she's revealed as the villain in episode 21]], and later as the replacement for Daphne in the Mystery Inc. Gang.
* TheAtoner: At least, that's what she'd like you to think. Released from prison on parole, [[TheMole but she's doing something with Mr. E.]]
* BackForTheDead: In the penultimate episode. A ForegoneConclusion given the destruction of the Nibiru entity.
* CastingGag: A knockoff of Velma voiced by the actress who played her in the live-action movies.
* ChekhovsGunman: Her first two appearances consist of a short mention and CutawayGag; by her third, she is far more prominent.
* DoesNotLikeMen: She seems to take it as a sign of weakness to need help from a man.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Scooby likes the way she smells.
* EtTuBrute: Right before she's killed, she says to Mr. E
-->'''Marcie:''' ''(to Mr. E)'' I guess I expected more from you.
-->''' Mr. E:''' So did I, little girl, so did I.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Is known only in name by her body odor: Hot Dog Water. She had since been identified as Marcy Fleach, but Velma, after becoming friends with her between seasons, is the only one who calls her that.
* HeroicSacrifice: She admirably holds off Pericles in the episode before the finale, but is gunned down opening a pathway for the gang. Thankfully, this is undone by the Nibiru Entity's demise.
* HeelFaceTurn: She quits Mr. E's services and gives Velma the disk in "The Night on Haunted Mountain". Then, in "Wrath of the Krampus", she steals Mr. E's and Pericles' pieces of the disk for the gang.
* HollywoodNerd: Appearance wise, she's a huge outcast.
* InkSuitActor: Looks quite a bit like Linda Cardellini with the straight dark hair and face shape.
* {{Meganekko}}
* TheMole: Works with Mystery Inc. alongside Velma for Mr. E, but is also following orders from Mr. E that Velma isn't aware of. And it pains her to do it as she seems to like solving mysteries and making friends with the gang.
* TheRival: To Velma in the first season.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Velma. It's even invoked in the altered credits (for the US episodes) wherein she temporarily replaces Daphne and hugs a picture of Velma in the same way Daphne hugged a picture of Fred.
** As Velma runs off with an epiphany in the finale, Marcie quips, "That's my girl!"
* SoundOnlyDeath: The Kriegstaffelbots advance on her with their arm cannons, then it cuts to Velma and Scooby, they hear gunfire in the distance, and Scooby starts whimpering. Velma sadly tells Scooby to go on.
* ShadowArchetype: Hot Dog Water is what Velma would be like if she didn't have any friends to help her.
* SixthRanger: Sort of. She fills in for Daphne when she initially refuses to return to Mystery Inc. in the second season. As soon as the original 5 are back together, though, she's given the boot which is made up for when they recruit her as an ally again in "Wrath of the Krampus".
* StrawFeminist: See DoesNotLikeMen.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Dark Lilith is a subversion, the skin is all just rubber and Latex, and it's very durable, since she was dragged along a rocky cliff side with only a tear in the leg, exposing it as a costume.
* TemporarySubstitute: For Daphne.

!!Mayor Janet Nettles
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KateHiggins
[[quoteright:234:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1_Janet_Nettles_3656.png]]
* AdultsAreUseless: Averted. The mayor is the only slightly competent adult who immediately agrees to help get Mystery Inc back together to deal with a new threat to Crystal Cove.
** She also knows when Pericles is trying to frame the gang and makes sure the sheriff doesn't play the supposedly-incriminating tape.
* AscendedExtra: Voice actress example. Kate Higgins was featured played a different character in one episode of season one before taking the role of a recurring character in season two.
* [[MrExposition Ms Exposition]]: She serves this role has the season progresses, often assigning mysteries to the kids like MissionControl.
* OfficialCouple: With Sheriff Stone. The series finale reveals that in an alternate timeline, they marry and have four kids.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Calls on the gang, has given them their own headquarters in city hall, and puts the welfare of her citizens over profit.
* RedeemingReplacement: To Mayor Jones.
* RetiredBadass: Used to fly Blackhawk helicopters for the Air Force, and flies a helicopter in "The Horrible Herd," even partially evading a missile shot at them.

!!Angie Dinkley
!!!Voiced by: Frances Conroy

* ADayInTheLimelight: Gets one in "Dark Knight of the Hunters," when she joins the gang in their journey to Mexico to find the Heart of the Jaguar.
* AlmightyMom: Angie spies on Velma through her blog.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: A subtle example. In the first few episodes, Velma's mom appeared to be just as thoughtless as the other parents, but as the show progressed the gang would go to her for advice on the supernatural. She even helps them during a case involving a headless zombie, and once offered to "take care" of Shaggy after he chose Scooby over Velma (she was kidding). Granted, Angie still got in a couple of snarky comments here and there, but her reveal that she actually reads Velma's blog is something you'd expect of a typical parent. And, by the disastrous events of the last episode, she's the only parent shown comforting their child and not making the situation worse.
* DeadpanSnarker
* DemotedToExtra: In season two.
* IdenticalStranger: It's been noted that Angie looks a ''lot'' like Brad Chiles: same freckles, hair, and dimpled chin. A popular WMG is that Angie is Brad's sister.
* {{Meganekko}}: A photo of her when she was younger showed that she rather attractive.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: She has shades of this.
* NoodleIncident: So what exactly happened in Cape Cod with Creator/HarlanEllison?
* OpenMindedParent: While she does make a big fuss over her daughter solving mysteries and ruining her business, that doesn't stop her from providing her all the resources she can. The only time she seems to discourage her hanging around Shaggy was after he broke Velma's heart, and even then she didn't use that as leverage to try and pry her away from the team.
* SkunkStripe

!!Nova
->Voiced by: Creator/JenniferHale, Creator/AmyAcker (when possessed)
* AlternateAnimalAffection: Like any normal dog, she licks Scooby's face to show affection. Subverted from his end when he kisses her on the forehead in the Horrible Herd.
* BigGood: Well, the Annuaki possessing her at least.
* CuteMute: She looks almost exactly like [[Disney/LadyAndTheTramp Lady]] and only barks and whimpers like a normal dog up until the possession is revealed, where she speaks candidly.
* DamselInDistress: First in Hodag of Horror, and again in The Horrible Herd.
* DisneyDeath: Falls out of a helicopter and appears to have been trampled in The Horrible Herd, only to start whimpering and moving when Scooby picks her up. She Appears to flatline at the hospital, but she gets better.
* DemonicPossession: Inverted. Instead of The Nibiru Entity, the thing using her body as an avatar is actually an Annunaki, a benevolent entity dedicated to stopping Nibiru.
* LoveAtFirstSight: She was a character for all of two seconds before Scooby fell hard. Slight hints of TheDulcineaEffect kick in after she's dognapped by the MonsterOfTheWeek.
* [[MisterMuffykins Miss Muffykins]]: Judy babytalks her, she sits in laps and is carried around like a teddy bear by the Gang, she's fluffy and well-groomed, but she isn't a yappy, useless runt. She even helps with a trap by alerting the others to incoming monsters in one episode.
* SixthRanger: After the Krampus gambit, Scooby decides that Brad and Judy don't deserve her and she ends up being a second TeamPet for the Gang. She now lives with Fred at the Blake house, and served a small role in the team's capture of the Queen of the Horrible Herd.

!!The Rest of the Parents
!!!Creator/FrankWelker (Barty Blake), Kevin Dunn (Dale Dinkley), Kath Soucie (Nan Blake), Creator/CaseyKasem (Colton Rogers), GreyDeLisle (Paula Rogers)

* AdultsAreUseless: In episode 2, none of the kids's parents can pick them up from Gatorsburg after the Mystery Machine breaks down.
* TheBeautifulElite: Barty and Nan Blake are both impossibly rich and attractive, as are all of their daughters.
* CastingGag: Shaggy's dad, Colton Rogers, is voiced by Casey Kasem.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: All of them are some combination of annoyed and indifferent to their childrens' antics, they do care about them when it all comes down to it.
* OutOfFocus: While it's safe to say that these characters's recurring appearances are fairly consistent, Dale Dinkley appears the least often. You'd be hard pressed at finding his name anywhere in the series, if anywhere at all. While his wife appears more frequently, he is hardly ever seen or mentioned, even in situations where he should be, such as the events of "Dark Night of the Hunters".
* StrongFamilyResemblance: All of the Gang clearly take after their parents, roughly combining half of each parents features. Interestingly, while Nan Blake looks nearly identical to Daphne, Barty looks like Fred.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: Colton Rogers is short and plump while Paula Rogers is tall and skinny like her son.

!!Tropes that apply to the gang as a whole:

[[index]]
* AmateurSleuth: It's ''Scooby-Doo''. Par for the course.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: In "The Horrible Herd," the gang hatches a plan to dispose of the titular herd by luring them into the ocean.
[[Characters/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporatedTheGang The plan succeeds, but the gang forgot that [[BigBad Professor Pericles]] used piranha DNA in the herd's creation, and thus, the creatures can ''swim''.
This changes after they expose Mayor
Gang]]:[[labelnote:Click to Expand]]Scooby-Doo, Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley, Fred Jones, Sr. as the Freak of Crystal Cove.

* {{Badass}}:
* BigDamnHeroes: In episode 10.
* BigFriendlyDog
* TheBigGuy
* CowardlyLion
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Where Walks Aphrodite", if only for the first two acts.
** Don't forget him taking charge in "Mystery Solvers Club States Finals"!
** And he does a little more in the later episodes that draw the series to a close.
* DeadpanSnarker: Surprisingly.
-->'''Shaggy:''' I can sure go for a big stack covered with clams and syrup at the Clam Cabin. Right, Scoob?
-->'''Scooby-Doo:''' Choke on it.
* NonHumanSidekick: To Shaggy.
* SkywardScream: In episode 8.
--> '''Scooby:''' Where's my Raggy!?
* StealthInsult:
** "Freddie. You're a special boy."
** After forgiving Shaggy, Scooby tells him "You're the only dummy for me."
** At the end of episode eighteen:
---> '''Barty Blake:''' Fred Jones, you buffoon!!
---> '''Scooby:''' [[MythologyGag Yeah. Buffoon.]]
* TeamPet

* BewareTheNiceOnes
* BigEater: As usual.
* BoundAndGagged: "The Grasp of the Gnome".
* BreakTheCutie: Shaggy was shaved bald when he got to military camp, and it became the butt of jokes.
** The bad part for him wasn't necessarily the abuse, but being separated from his pal Scooby.
* CatchPhrase: "Zoinks!"
* CowardlyLion: As per usual.
When Shaggy questions ''why'' he and Scooby are dressed as girls when the gang already ''has'' two girls in it, [[NotEvenBotheringWithAnExcuse
Daphne gives a very good reason - she and Velma refused.]]
Blake[[/labelnote]]
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Norville.
* EruditeStoner: G-rated version.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: The Sanguine.
* FriendVersusLover: Caught between Scooby and Velma, mainly because he used the idea that Scooby wouldn't approve
[[Characters/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporatedAntagonists Antagonists]]:[[labelnote:Click to avoid letting the others know they were dating.
-->'''Shaggy:''' Shaggy likes it baggy!
* LikeIsLikeAComma:
* LovableCoward

* BlindWithoutEm
* BoundAndGagged: "The Wild Brood".
* BrainyBrunette
* BreakTheCutie: Episode 26 was probably the start of a ''long'' road of pain that Velma's gonna have to endure for her actions. See below as to why.
* CatchPhrase: "Jinkies!"
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Shaggy.
* HollywoodNerd
* PantyShot: Episode 33.
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]
* TeenGenius: Of course.
* YouthfulFreckles
* ZettaiRyouiki

[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap-2011-05-18-11h47m28s219_1071.jpg]]

-->'''Fred''': I spend a lot of time alone. He's a good listener!
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud:
* HeroesWantRedHeads
* HeroicBSOD:
* StandardizedLeader: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]!
* TrapMaster

* BeautyIsNeverTarnished:
* TheChick
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Fred.
* CloudCuckooLander: Sometimes.
* PurpleEyes: Matching her dress.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt
* {{Redheaded Hero}}ine

!!Mayor Fred
Expand]]Fred Jones Sr./The Freak of Crystal Cove

* BigBad: Revealed to be the main villain of season 1 when it comes out that he was responsible for the disappearance of the original Mystery Inc.
, and thus the entire plot. He's also been manipulating the present Mystery Inc. to try and find the treasure as well.
* BigBadEnsemble: With
Professor Pericles, who ends the season victorious while Jones does not.
* SeventiesHair
* TheSociopath: When afflicted by the curse.
* SuitWithVestedInterests: Always.

* BadassBaritone
* EvilCounterpart: To Scooby Doo...
* EvilSoundsDeep
* FaceHeelTurn: Betrayed his gang for the treasure and made a deal with Mayor Jones.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Read EvilIsNotAToy above.
* IntellectualAnimal
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's small, yes, but once knocked
Ricky Owens, an overweight adult human, flat on his back with a single backhand-er, wing.
* PollyWantsAMicrophone
* ScoobyDooHoax: In Episode 23.
* TheSociopath: When afflicted by the curse.
* SoftSpokenSadist
* TheSvengali
* TalkingAnimal

* TheDragon: To Professor Pericles.
** Though with FridgeBrilliance when you realize that if the gang didn't survive/solve the little mysteries, then they wouldn't unravel the big one about Fred Jones Sr being the Freak and taking Fred from
Ed Machine, Brad Chiles and Judy, and Pericles and the disc, and, well, everything!
* EvilCounterpart: To Shaggy.
* {{Leitmotif}}
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Finally turns good and protects the Gang from
Judy Reeves, the Nibiru Entity, saving them but being eaten by it in the process.
* TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat:
* TricksterMentor
* TheWatcher

* TheDragon: To Mr. E.
* EnemyWithin: He lost his good side to the Sitting Room.
* EnigmaticMinion
* TheStoic

* ADayInTheLimelight: In "Grim Judgement".
* FaceHeelTurn
* LukeIAmYourFather: They're Fred's real parents.
* SickeninglySweethearts

* DarkIsEvil
* EvilSoundsDeep
* {{Expy}}:
* WalkingSpoiler: [[LiteralMinded Floating]] actually.

* {{Badass}}: As Obliteratrix.
* TheBusCameBack: Came back in episode 25 as part of Mr. E's plan to get Pericles out into the open.
* DarkActionGirl: As Obliteratrix has a degree of knowledge about unarmed combat and acrobatics.
* DaddysLittleVillain:
Alice May[=/=]Carlswell, daughter of The Creeper....except not, as it's revealed this is actually a lie orchestrated by Mr. E. to get an old yearbook.

* BitchInSheepsClothing
* CastingGag: A trifecta!
* {{Expy}}: Of ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' star TaylorLautner
* MonsterClown: Crybaby Clown
* MrFanservice: He is a parody of TaylorLautner after all.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: He's actually Crybaby Clown, and very nearly succeeded in kidnapping a large amount of people.
* ParodySue
* RetGone: In the new reality created by the evil entity's destruction, he never became the Crybaby Clown.
* StupidSexyFlanders: Not even Scooby or Fred can deny
May, Baylor Hotner's attractiveness.
* TemporaryLoveInterest: For Daphne.

!!George Avocados
!!! Voiced by: James Arnold Taylor

* AmbiguouslyBrown
* AscendedExtra: He first appears as the mayors rival, then as a guest at a dinner party, he becomes more important when its revealed that he's considerably poorer (Scarebear), and farms avocados, which are accidentally blown up [[spoiler: he is the ghost in Theater of Doom, and upon his capture Fred exclaims "Yes finally! I knew you'd be the villain eventually," and he states that it was finally him after previous misdirects.]]
* ButtMonkey: With the kind of luck he gets, is it any wonder he turned to crime?
* BitchInSheepsClothing: While a jerk, he's not the monster until "Theater of Doom".
* GenerationXerox: Despite his attempts at avoiding it.
* ItsPronouncedTropay: Whenever his name is spoken they pronounce it like the plant. He always corrects them.
-->'''George:''' That's A''voc''ados.
* ObviouslyEvil: Lampshaded.
* RedHerring: He's not the Ghost Trucker nor the Scarebear. When they finally catch him, they lampshade it.
-->'''Fred:''' Yes! Finally, I knew you'd be the villain eventually!
-->'''Avocados:''' Alright, you got me, I suppose you're wondering after so many [[RedHerring prior misdirects]], why now?
-->'''Daphne:''' Actually no, not really. [[ObviouslyEvil We kinda always knew you were evil]].
-->'''Avocados:''' Okay fine.
* RetGone: In the new reality, he never became a villain, possibly not even a jerk.
* SkunkStripe: About three.

Ethan, various monsters, Kriegstaffelbots[[/labelnote]]
* AscendedExtra: Were just background characters, who gradually got more and more screen time, before [[spoiler: being the villain(s) in Grim Judgement.]]
* EvilRedHead: Ethan.
* FakeUltimateHero: That's the gist of their plan, one shows up as Hebidiah Grim, the other fights him off and saves a girl.
* {{Jerk Jock}}s
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Gary pretends
[[Characters/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporatedOtherCharacters Other Characters]]:[[labelnote:Click to have been hurt by Ethan's remarks, but admits he was just messing with him.
* {{Jerkass}}: Both of them.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: When Ethan realizes he might have hurt Gary's feelings, he apologizes and feels bad, when Gary reveals he was screwing with him, Ethan gets embarrassed.
* LargeHam: As Hebediah Grim.
-->'''''"YOU SHALL BE JUDGED!"'''''

--> '''Shaggy:''' "........Dude. Seriously?"
** Or the one that says that suing would take too long and then proceeds to list off a plan that rivals Freddy's traps in complexity.
* {{Expy}}:
* GiantEnemyCrab: The Man-Crab
* MonsterOfTheWeek
* OurGnomesAreWeirder: The Scary Gnome
* PlayingWithFire: Lord Infericus
* TheWormThatWalks: The Cicada Creature.

* GatlingGood: See ArmCannon.
* GratuitousGerman: During the few times they do speak,
* MechaMooks

* BareYourMidriff
* DyingMomentOfAwesome
* JiveTurkey
* KilledOffForReal: WordOfGod confirms it.
* MissionControl
* RedemptionEqualsDeath
* SassyBlackWoman: Is a ruse.
* SexyMentor
* ShesAllGrownUp: She looked like a typical nerd as Cassidy
Expand]]Cassidy Williams, but now...
* TokenGoodTeammate: She's the only member of the original Mystery Inc who hasn't been corrupted by the search for the Conquistador's treasure and defies her former friends' efforts to seek it.
* TokenMinority
* TookALevelInBadass: Between the years that she was gone from Crystal Cove, she's definitely has improved.
* WasItAllALie: Fred says this to Angel when she comes clean in episode 25.

!!Sheriff
Sheriff Bronson Stone
!!!Voiced by: Creator/PatrickWarburton
[[quoteright:210:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_16466_6957.jpg]]

* BadCopIncompetentCop:
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Dead Justice".
* OfficialCouple: With Mayor Nettles.
* OneOfTheKids: He sleeps in a ''car-shaped bed'' for crying out loud!
* TheSheriff

* AlliterativeName
* OneSteveLimit: Exaggertedly averted; he and his five siblings are ''all''
Stone, Skipper Shellton.

* AscendedExtra:
Shelton, Vincent Van Ghoul appears in a MythologyGag movie series commonly seen on the television, before later appearing in person.
* LargeHam
* [[WhiteDwarfStarlet White Dwarf Star]]

!!H.
Ghoul, H.P. Hatecraft
!!!Voice by: Creator/JeffreyCombs
* AdultsAreUseless: Averted.

She had since been identified as Marcy
Hatecraft, Marcie Fleach, but Velma, after becoming friends with her between seasons, is the only one who calls her that.
* {{Meganekko}}
* StrawFeminist: See DoesNotLikeMen.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Dark Lilith is a subversion, the skin is all just rubber and Latex, and it's very durable, since she was dragged along a rocky cliff side with only a tear in the leg, exposing it as a costume.
* TemporarySubstitute: For Daphne.

!!Mayor
Janet Nettles
* RedeemingReplacement: To Mayor Jones.

* AlmightyMom:
Nettles, Angie spies on Velma through her blog.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: A subtle example. In the first few episodes, Velma's mom appeared to be just as thoughtless as the
Dinkley, Nova, other parents, but as the show progressed the gang would go to her for advice on the supernatural.
* DeadpanSnarker
* DemotedToExtra: In season two.
* SkunkStripe

!!Nova
->Voiced by: Creator/JenniferHale, Creator/AmyAcker (when possessed)
