* MercyKill: As part of their bizarre morality, many of them believe that killing souls is better than them going mad in Limbo. That said, they don't promise that the deaths will be painless....

* AdultFear: She can invoke this by drowning a child into her watery depths. WordOfGod is that some of Mirror Kaiba's trauma comes from seeing [[spoiler: Mirror Mokuba taken by her after he gave up from the utter despair of Limbo and he was one of the souls that the Crusaders killed off when they fought against Llorona.]]

* LargeHam: Most of her dialogue has her shouting and screaming at the girls.

* ShoutOut: To La Llorona, Mexico's famous Weeping Woman. WordOfGod is that she was also inspired by a ''The Twilight Episode'' "The Bewitching Pool" and [[WesterAnimation/StevenUniverse Blue Diamond]].

* AwwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: She and Llorona don't see eye to eye, but she's not happy upon learning that the CMC defeated her sister in combat.

* FaceOfAThug: Due to his mask, he looks absolutely malevolent...he's really a nice guy.

** NobleDemon: The narration states that he was a pretty cool guy to the point that Gentaro shared drinks with him after a fight. Funnily enough, he likes talking about a literal noble demon called "The Blue Demon".

* OnlySaneMan: He's the most 'normal' person in Limbo.
* WouldntHitAGirl: Tormenta refuses to hurt women, probably because he has two sisters.

* MeaningfulName: It's based on the Aztec God, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiuhtecuhtli Xiuhtecuhtli]], the God of Fire who was symbolized with turquoise stones.

* {{Foil}}: To Akato. Where he's absolutely crazy, she's calm. Where he could give a rat's ass on the trauma the CMC went through, she's understanding. Their sense of humor is also different: he just likes making fun and snarking at everything regards to the Rabbit Tribe's journey to limbo, where Spider Grandmother likes to joke that she doesn't mind being called "Spider-Gran" and all.

* NeverMessWithGranny: She may look old, but remember that she's the mother of ''all'' the spiders that parade Limbo, and these spiders are NOT friendly at all. [[spoiler:It doesn't save her from Akato, who still manages to defeat and card her]].

* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Upon her freedom, she saves the CMC from being killed by the destruction of the Mirror Pantheon. This does not save them from Limbo itself however, nor does it save her from Akato.]]

* LogicalWeakness: Her control over water ''should'' make her a natural deterrent to Akato. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, Akato's ability to perform transmutation of matter allows him to simply turn her water into oil, which he then proceeds to ignite]].

* TheScream: The last noise she utters before she is [[spoiler: carded by Akato.]]

* AwwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: She and Llorona don't see eye to eye, but she is absolutely ''mortified'' upon learning how [[spoiler:Akato killed Llorona off.]]

* ElementalRockPaperScissors: Wind tends to give Fire more oxygen, [[spoiler:which enabled Akato to easily defeat her.]]
* AFatherToHisMen: Cares deeply about her skeletal soldiers and mourns their deaths when [[spoiler: Akato essentially performs a humongous cremation.]]

* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: WordOfGod states that she and Llorona are sisters who constantly bicker with one another. That said, she is horrified that the Crusaders nearly murdered Llorona and is ready to squeeze the life out of them. [[spoiler:She's even more horrified when Akato succeeds in that task and prepares to kill him...but is then subjected to a CurbStompBattle.]]
* IllKillYou: Screams this at Akato before they fight.

* BigDamnHeroes: Saves the CMC just before Akato can set them on fire in their duel.

* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:Curses out Akato before the latter cards him.]]

* EveryoneHasStandards: Is disgusted that a monster like Akato is present in Limbo and despises the Nightmare Mirror Circus.

* TheOneGuy: The only male Limbo denizen (Akato does not count) although he does mention a predecessor, Santo, who used to also give warnings to followers.

* WeHardlyKnewYe: Gets killed off pretty quickly by Akato, so most of his characterization is through flashbacks and conversations from the Rabbit Tribe.

* EvilerThanThou: It ends up on the receiving end thanks to the other villains. The GUAM view it as something to experiment on, the GUAD view it as a weapon/potential ally, and both Akato and [[spoiler:Noxicron]] find it a repulsive piece of garbage. [[spoiler:In the end, it dies to Rudolf Dragnov, and the remnants of its essence is absorbed into Noxicron's dimension, whereupon it scatters and gets assimilated into it]].

* NoNameGiven: It's just called the "Darkness within Limbo". [[spoiler:It's later revealed to be named Tezcatli]]

* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: They're a family of insane creatures who don't mind killing off those who traverse the land/drive them insane. WordOfGod is that Lady Imagica is the mother, Spider Grandmother is the younger than the former, Llorona and Katrina are sisters, Tormenta's the older brother, the Maidens of Mictal can be seen as aunts/cousins, and Xihute is the younger brother who overthrows them.

A monster of flame who is going along with the Darkness's plan to cause chaos and destruction because he can.

* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: They're a family of insane creatures who don't mind killing off those who traverse the land/drive them insane. WordOfGod is that Lady Imagica is the mother, Spider Grandmother is the younger than the former, Llorona and Katrina are sisters, Tormenta's the older brother, the Maidens of Mictal can be seen as aunts/cousins, [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers and Akato is]] [[spoiler:the SerialKiller who murders them all]].
* LandSeaSky: Tormenta (Land), Llorona (Sea) and Katrina (Sky).

!!Akato Honouzuki

A demon who used to be a human whose soul was so evil that he ''became'' as terrifying, if not moreso, than the demons themselves, [[spoiler:until it's revealed that his arrival in Limbo altered his state of being ahead of time, as well as his memories. In truth, he's still human, but is nearing his transformation.]]. While not a true resident of Limbo, he plays an integral part in giving the Cutie Mark Crusaders (and the Rabbit Tribe) advice on what they're about to get into.

* AffablyEvil: He can be rather courteous and calm, which can almost make you forget that he's an insane pyromaniac with destructive visions for the world.
* AuraVision: One of his abilities, helped by the number of souls he's absorbed.
* {{Archenemy}}: According to [[spoiler:Noxicron]], an individual named Stephan Ainsworth. [[TheGhost That being said, Stephan does not appear in the Tale.]]
* AxCrazy: Oh yes; you have to be this if you idealized an ''atomic bombing of an entire city'' and then decided to '''re-enact it with total loss of life'''. [[spoiler:Or at the very least, ''plan'' to re-enact it with total loss of life to help create HellOnEarth.]]
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:By the time the CMC are about to detonate Limbo, Akato has already killed its native residents. Not to mention that destroying Limbo frees him to continue his current assignment. While Rudolf Dragnov seems to hijack everything, it still hasn't changed the status quo of Akato's universe, and he ultimately accomplished his objectives.]]
* BerserkButton: A minor one, but he's not into yaoi one bit and despises anything that reminds him of it. According to WordOfGod, it's because Noxicron has a subordinate (who is named after the main author of the entire trilogy, Camilla, and a self-proclaimed YaoiFangirl) who is constantly making porn that ships him and his ArchEnemy.
* BloodKnight: Loves nothing more than a good brawl, and only gets his when Saltador unleashes their full power.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Averted. Akato's powers, while revolving primarily around fire, involve a very expansive skill-set that incorporates other elements, [[spoiler:due to him being a master user of transmuation-based skills in his universe.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Is very sarcastic in his banter, most of it being aimed towards London and Mala Suerte, [[spoiler:since Akato found his (Gentaro's) plan to be utterly moronic.]]
* DoubleStandard: The Crusaders accuse him of this when he lets Yugi go free, but fully plans to do horrible things to them. He replies that each challenge in life is best suited to certain people, but they don't buy it.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** He's a maniacal monster, but even ''he'' thinks that Paul London is a nutcase.
** Beyond that, he's disgusted by what happened to the Darkness Proxy, and finds the shunning that they received afterwards to be very unfair. In his eyes, they did not TRULY make a FaceHeelTurn, but merely lost their free will.
*** It is because of this that he has no interest in the Darkness, finding it to be a lazy and forced attempt at turning Gods evil, revealing that he's not a fan of mind control. This continues with his encounter with Mala Suerte [[spoiler:, AKA a disguised Gentaro. He can tell that the darkness has basically parasitized Gentaro's soul, which has physically and mentally weakened the Kamen Rider. He's almost tempted to just destroy it, even though Gentaro might derail his plans...but an analysis of Gentaro's soul and body renders that point moot.]]
** He considers Limbo to be disgusting, and is horrified at the idea that it managed to alter him. [[spoiler:It didn't, that was a side-effect of the spell Rudolf used.]]
* EvilerThanThou: Turned out to be ''worse'' than most actual demons (exceptions being his [[GreaterScopeVillain bosses]]), and is magnitudes more evil than the forces of Limbo.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: Makes not-so-subtle hints on Saltador in revolving their appearance. Gets even creepier when it's revealed that [[spoiler: Saltador is ''Elena'' in disguise.]]
* EvilIsBurningHot: A villain who likes to burn things through and through, setting fire to the rain and most of the area when he and the CMC fight.
* {{Expy}}:
** WordOfGod states that his appearance is based off of [[Manga/FairyTail Acnologia]], and he even has a monster that resembles the latter's dragon form. Funnily enough, Acnologia appears in the same story as he does, though the two do not meet.
** Personality-wise, he's a male [[VisualNovel/UminekoNoNakuKoroNi Lambdadelta]] with his AffablyEvil WildCard status and his respect for the Crusaders (the prologue established that Lambdadelta gave them her blessing, seeing as she holds respect for hard-workers) and Kamen Rider Fourze, along with the fact that everything he does in the tale is for his own amusement. The Crusaders even note this.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Was just an underpowered sociopath unable to act on his whims unless he wanted to deal with the legal system. Then he discovered the demon world...Later, it's discovered that he caused a heroic example of this in regards to Stephan Ainsworth.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler:He concedes the conclusion of the story to Rudolf, acknowledging his success in his latest experiment.]]
* HeroKiller: According to [[spoiler:Rudolf]], Akato has killed numerous agents of the Hermetic Association, the organization in their world that is opposed to [[spoiler:Rudolf and Noxicron]].
* HumanoidAbomination: Has the appearance of a human but the powers of a demon. [[spoiler:Turns out he IS still human...but is still close to turning into a demon, so he still counts.]]
* ImaginationBasedSuperpower: His current power level gives him complete control of fire and other dark abilities. With the former, he can pretty much spam destructive spells and attacks however he chooses to do so.
* ItAmusedMe: Practically everything he does in the story is for his amusement and for research.
* JerkassHasAPoint: He's a major dick, that's for sure, but he does give genuine advice on what's to come for our protagonists and is spot-on with his observations of their characters.
* KillEmAll: What he did [[spoiler:or rather, ''will do'']] to his hometown. [[spoiler:He later does this to the residents of Limbo, slaughtering them all before the CMC are nearly forced to cause Limbo to self-destruct.]]
* LaughingMad: Indulges in this as he dishes out beatings and burnings. [[spoiler: He lets one loose at the end of the story as he applauds at how the CMC nearly self-destruct Limbo.]]
* MetaGuy: Lampshades how convoluted Limbo's mechanics are for what should be a simple space in-between dimensions, is completely disgusted by the TheCorruption aspect of the darkness, finds it strange (albeit fascinating) that a bunch of ponies have gained abilities from other universes while other deities have stuck to their origin powers, questions why [[spoiler:Gentaro and Elena are using an overly complex plot instead of just warning everyone about Limbo, and calls Rudolf's scheme to be overly convoluted.]]
* MindRape: [[spoiler:His ace monsters all have this ability (and it isn't a stretch to think that he can also do it). Just being in their ''presence'' alone is enough to incapacitate an ill-prepared person with visions, and in the worst case scenario, completely destroy their ego. The CMC found this out the hard way.]]
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: His attacks are random and seem to be made up on the spot, with sudden effects that one might not normally expect. [[spoiler:This includes the power to convert water to oil so that he can weaken Llorona and card her. Once his true nature as a sorcerer specializing in transmutation comes to light however, it makes more sense.]]
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: According to [[spoiler:Rudolf]], Akato made things more difficult for the villains in their home dimension by being the one responsible for making Stephan Ainsworth a threat to them.
* NighInvulnerable: Nothing harms him, save for Saltador's barriers, and even then it's only enough to ''tie'' with him, and it's implied that if he was more focused, he would've killed Saltador's group. [[spoiler:Not even the threat Limbo ''self-destructing'' fazes him, despite the fact that it destroyed all of the souls in the Mirror Pantheon. Of course, since he's just manifesting in Limbo instead of 100% being there, it makes sense that he'd regenerate because that's not his real body.]]
* NobleDemon: Subverted. He's a complete and utter maniac, but has something of a sense of honor and standards, being disgusted at Limbo and what it's done, along with having contempt for [[VideoGame/ShinMegamiTensei YHVH]] and [[Roleplay/TheSpectacularOmniverse the Man in White]] for their goals in subjugating the multiverse. Not only that, he's also a fairly straightforward duelist despite winning a SuperpowerLottery...but all of these moments are sprinkled within his general sadism, and only serve to make him more demented and dangerous.
* ObviouslyEvil: A being who looks like Acnologia with a maniacal laugh that wants nothing more than to burn everything he touches and has no qualms on devouring the Cutie Mark Crusaders just because he can? Saltador has a good reason to state how he's nothing but evil.
* OddNameOut: Barring Spider Grandmother and Lady Imagica, his name doesn't follow the Spanish naming convention of Limbo.
* OutsideContextVillain: Is actually a dimension traveler [[spoiler:from a ''[[Anime/YuGiOhARCV Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V]]'' based universe known as ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12410540/1/Omen-of-Uncertainty-Part-I-Original-World-arc Omen of Uncertainty]]'']] and has no desire to use the darkness within Limbo whatsoever. This is foreshadowed via two elements: Him not obeying the naming theme of Limbo, and the fact that the [[spoiler:cards that he gives to Bandit Keith feel like Shadow Cards from the YGO-verse rather than being an actual product of the Darkness' power]].
* PetTheDog: Subverted. [[spoiler: He could sense a bit of the darkness within Limbo in Mala Suerte's (Gentaro's) soul and was going to extract it, but only so that Gentaro would be worth fighting (Complete with ImagineSpot about fighting Fourze)...but decides against it because, if Gentaro was at full power, he could have derailed Akato's plans to card the denizens of Limbo. And anyways, the procedure to do so would require Sota, who wasn't in Limbo at the time.]]
* PlayingWithFire: His Anarchy Agent cards are all FIRE Attribute. He himself has fire-based abilities.
* {{Pyromaniac}}: Indulges in fire and is absolutely insane.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:It's eventually revealed that Limbo is the can. Until it's destroyed, Akato's spirit cannot return home to continue his current assignment. Of course, later circumstances reveal that the seal on said can wasn't very powerful...]]
* SlasherSmile: Loves unleashing these when he fights.
* SoulPower: For every soul he kills, they become connected to his soul and boosts his power. [[FridgeHorror Now remember that in one potential timeline he killed off every single person from his hometown...]]
* SuperpowerLottery: Ignoring how his opponents were under [[WorfHadTheFlu restrictions]] in combat, his duel with the CMC reveals an ''immensely'' broken deck capable of summoning a large number of powerful Ritual and Fusion monsters [[note]]As a small sample, Akato's main Ritual Spell Card can Summon from both the hand ''and'' the deck, alleviating inconsistency issues, and the spell card he uses to Fusion Summon is a Quick-Play that serves as a combined Polymerization/Miracle Fusion.[[/note]] with a large amount of searching to boot.
* TokenEvilTeammate: To the forces of Limbo, the majority of whom run on BlueAndOrangeMorality. He's the only one actively seeking to harm the CMC and [[spoiler:the other residents of Limbo, so that he can turn them into Duel Monster cards.]]
* {{Troll}}: Really wants nothing more than to rile both London and Mala Suerte up. The former is too cuckoo to fall for his lines, but the latter is close to strangling the demon lord.
* VillainOfAnotherStory: His presence in Limbo is more of a result of his traveling through time-and-space, and his ultimate goal has no true bearing on the Pantheon.
* VillainRespect: Gives this to Saltador, seeing as they're the only ones to at least unleash their full potential against him. In addition, while he finds the hodgepodge of abilities that the CMC have gained to be strange, he does find it to be fascinatingly unique and even notes that their dueling skills (Despite shaving only 1000 lifepoints off of him) were better than most duelists he's battled. [[spoiler: He also ''applauds'' when he sees the Crusaders about to detonate Limbo, seeing the lengths these girls will go in order to survive.]] He also gives Fourze his respects, admiring his power and determination.
** He holds a great deal respect for Yugi, viewing him as the King of Games and being disgusted at what he's gone through, likening it to being kidnapped for {{Yaoi}} pornography.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Akato is no pushover; everything that the CMC give him, he tanks. Saltador's barriers are only enough to declare a draw and he could've killed them when he had a chance.
* WasOnceAMan: Was once a mortal who became a demon lord by devouring countless souls. [[spoiler:Even when it turns out that he hasn't reached that point, his humanity is basically holding on by a thread.]]
* WeWantOurJerkBack: Averted. He's actually quite jovial seeing [[spoiler:Fourze appear, the Darkness fully exorcised from his body, since he finds Fourze's regular personality to be entertaining.]]
* WhereIWasBornAndRazed: He destroyed and killed off the population of the Nagasaki in his own world (which was his hometown), absorbing all of their souls in the process. [[spoiler:We later learn that his arrival in Limbo altered his body and memories to the point where that happened. Akato's current chronology has yet to have this occur...but he's been dreaming about it since he was a child, so it doesn't change much.]]
* WildCard: He gives advice to the CMC, [[spoiler: hands a possessed Bandit Keith the Darkness in Limbo Continuous Spell Card, ''cards'' all of the residents of Limbo, wants to help Gentaro with the darkness corrupting his soul]] and shows no allegiance to anyone but himself.
* WorthyOpponent: Considers Fourze and Yugi to be this and holds minor respect for the Crusaders.
* YourSoulIsMine: The fate of those he kills. Regardless of whatever happens to your soul when you die normally, a person slain by Akato is automatically condemned to Hell and connected to Akato's soul to power him up.

[[spoiler:One of Akato's superiors, a demon-sorcerer who honestly could care less about the last Tale and just wants Akato to get back to their home dimension so as to put their plans into motion.]]

* AffablyEvil: [[spoiler:Speaks in a calm, near deadpan tone and behaves like a PunchClockVillain, but the fact that he's essentially Akato's boss should tell you that he is NOT on the side of good. That being said, he's a lot more civil and respectful to his enemies than Rudolf, even doing Gentaro's handshake before watching from the sidelines (but more to piss Rudolf than to befriend Gentaro).]]
* AlwaysABiggerFish: [[spoiler:For Akato, as he is already a demon, but is far more powerful than even him. He is also implied to be on the receiving end himself, as he too has a [[GreaterScopeVillain superior]] that both he and Akato answer to. He later confirms that said superior is more like a 'next-door neighbor'.]]

They also have a {{Steampunk}} element added into them (like The Slasher/Sota's Karakuri monsters and deck combined with some of the machines in the Nightmare Mirror Circus). The land itself is a dark woods with giant spiders parading about and a sentient darkness that wishes to draw people into its depths.

* UnderestimatingBadassery: Didn't see the Crusaders as threats...it cost her dearly.

A being who rules over winds and leads a legion of skeletons. During All Hallow's Eve, she gathers the remains of the dead and celebrates a "bountiful harvest" of all of Limbo's labors.

A wrestler-type figure who guards the so-called Nightmare Mirror Circus, trying to tell souls to avoid going into it, else become the circus's next act.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: The most human-looking of the residents of Limbo, but it's not known if he IS one.

* CoolBigBro: He's the older brother figure to Llorona and Katrina, according to WordOfGod and the only one who can stop their bickering.

* DishingOutDirt: Can make the earth tremble and can rise with just a wave of his hand.
