* HateSink: While Tempest Shadow has a tragic backstory [[spoiler:and eventual reformation]], the Storm King, LaughablyEvil he may be, is ultimately just a cruel, power-hungry, [[ItsAllAboutMe self-absorbed]] tyrant who subverts the coolness he showed in the prequel comics, gleefully has Canterlot enslaved, [[spoiler:cruelly reveals to Tempest that he lied about being able to restore her horn before trying to murder her, and then tries to murder both her and Twilight]]. It's safe to say that [[spoiler:his [[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath pretty brutal]] demise at the end was well deserved]].

* NiceHat: He's never seen without his top hat.

* NiceHat: A large tricorn with an equally oversized feather in it as befitting a pirate captain.

* BlindingBangs: Her mane completely covers the upper half of her face, [[InkSuitActor just like her voice actress]]. Her backup dancers also share the same hairdo.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:When the captured Twilight is brought back to Canterlot, she sees Songbird in a cage, sadly singing the lyrics to "Rainbow" until a Storm Guard hits the bars of her cage, forcing her to be quiet. Songbird then shares a sad look with Twilight. Even with her BlindingBangs, you can tell Songbird is in as much despair as Twilight is.]]

* MeaningfulName: Not only is it fitting that TheDragon to the ''Storm'' King is called Tempest, but [[spoiler:"Fizzlepop" is perfect for a unicorn who creates beautiful fireworks]].

* DarthVaderClone: She shares many similarities with the Dark Lord, especially in that she has a DarkAndTroubledPast that caused her to lose something, and has a personal vendetta with the protagonist. She is also very imposing in stature and has a strong commanding presence. [[spoiler:Her redemption also shows parallels with that, except for the fact that she lives.]] The only difference is that while she wears imposing armor, she lacks the mask.

** The Storm King's actions seem to be driven by practicality and self-interest before other considerations, with little in the way of either genuine compassion or needless cruelty. He's very generous towards his soldiers and treats them extremely well, but this is simply to make sure they remain loyal to him as shown in ''The Movie'' where [[spoiler:he discards and betray his underlings once he thinks they're no longer needed]].

* InformedAbility: They're treated as an army formidable enough to have conquered multiple nations and force the entire hippogriff race into hiding. But as they were soundly defeated by a thirteen-member RagtagBunchOfMisfits [[spoiler:without magic/artifact assistance]] and the only nations they're shown successfully conquering seemingly never even had their defending armies show up, it questionable how they got that reputation.

** The Storm King's actions seem to be driven by practicality and self-interest before other considerations, with little in the way of either genuine compassion or needless cruelty. He's very generous towards his soldiers and treats them extremely well, but this is simply to make sure they remain loyal to him. He also doesn't bother to enforce his rule on the nations he overruns, since he doesn't want to get saddled with the minutiae of ruling and administrating, simply sacking them for all they're worth before moving on.
** [[spoiler:Subverted at the end of the film, when he invokes YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness as Tempest's "reward" for her successful service, saying he used her because "it's kind of what I do". Had he just stuck to his usual shtick as a BenevolentBoss, he probably would've retained both his stolen alicorn magic and his best servant; instead, she invokes MistreatmentInducedBetrayal in favor of his enemies, and he ends up in a LiterallyShatteredLives state. However, given the fact he'd just caught her saying how she'd 'show everyone what she was capable of' once he restored her horn and his previous number two stabbed him in the back, there may still have been a pragmatic reason for it.]]

* MulticoloredHair: One half is black and the other blond, matching Sia's current look. Again.

* BeautyMark: Has a mole under her left eye.

* NeutralEvil: Without a doubt, he is definitely one of the rare, tyrannical types, combined with the fact that he is a crazed megalomaniac in a position of power within the Storm Creature hierarchy. He was more than willing to let Tempest Shadow to co-operate with him under the promise that he will get her horn back, but in the end, [[spoiler:he made her expendable once he successfully got the power he needed.]]

* NeutralEvil: Without a doubt, he is definitely one of the rare, tyrannical types, combined with the fact that he is a crazed megalomaniac in a position of power within the Storm Creature hierarchy. * VillainousLegacy: He is long dead by the events of ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsSpringBreakdown'', but his storm magic is still the source of all the problems there.

* AmbiguouslyGay: In #100 of the comic, she returns to her homeland and visits her friend, Ocypete. From their dialogue it seems to imply they were more than old friends.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In the prequel comic, the crew were greater in number, with several additional members. In the movie itself, the crew number only five (counting Celaeno), with all the other members from the comic nowhere to be found.

* CriticalResearchFailure: InUniverse, despite spending the film wishing to [[PowerParasite steal the powers of the Princesses]], the Storm King doesn't seem to have any idea what those powers ''are'' (he can't even seem to remember that the Princesses are alicorns). [[spoiler:This bites him in the butt when he empowers the Staff of Sacanas, since he doesn't know how to best use his stolen powers]].

* WouldHitAGirl: [[spoiler:He has no problem using Twilight for target practice [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown after having his staff absorb her powers]] and eventually trying to blast both her and Tempest to kingdom come. He also would've turned the Mane Six into stone if not for Tempest's HeroicSacrifice. In the Prequel comics, he puts Celaeno in a pretty nasty choke hold after she manages to let Capper and Chummer escape.]]

* SatanicArchetype: He commands an army of ferocious beasts, has conquered multiple countries and left them devastated, and has Tempest do his bidding with a promise to restore her broken horn. In addition, he has horns, a pointed crown and goat legs reminiscent of Satan.

The parrot-like leader of the pirates. Once proud and daring explorers of the skies, Celaeno and her crew were roped into the Storm King's service as mere postal carriers. It takes a certain group of six pony stowaways (plus one dragon) to rekindle her zest for adventure, making her an invaluable ally.

* AffablyEvil: Despite being a pirate (formally working for the Storm King), she's quite a friendly fellow to her allies and willing to help the heroes in need.

* BelatedBackstory: Issue #100 of the comic goes a bit into her past. Her parents worked for the royalty of the kingdom of Ornithia where she made friends with the prince and princess of the royal family, Aello and Ocypete, growing especially close with the latter. The two had planned to run away together to start their own pirate crew. But Ocypete's father got in the way of that plan, wanting Ocypete to stay to fulfill her role as [[spoiler:one of the elements of the kingdom]]. To make sure Celaeno didn't interfere, he offered to give Celaneo her own ship... and subtly threatened her if she refused. Cealeno was ultimately forced to leave the kingdom to her dismay and wouldn't see her friend until years later when she returned as part of an envoy with Rainbow Dash.

* VagueAge: Her stature and mannerisms seem to imply that she's at least a few years older than Twilight Sparkle and the Mane Six, which places her somewhere close to Cadance and Shining Armor's ages.

* ADayInTheSpotlight: She's the main focus of the 100th issue of the comic tie-in with it going over some of her backstory as well as conflict in her homeland.
