* BadBadActing: Part of Derek's plan involved replacing Orton and using the money the Dr. Zone empire to take over the world. However while Orton was by no means a good actor himself, he was a good enough writer to gain a cult following. While Derek was 'neither' a writer or an actor. So the show ended up being so bad it was canceled after only two episodes, causing the mega-hit Dr. Zone franchise to be RetGone from the present, and delaying Derek's plan by decades.
* EvilGloating: When he outnumbers Milo, Dakota, Cavendish and Orton, Derek monologues about his evil plan, which is apparently long enough for the gang to escape. When he berates his fellow Pistachions why they didn't warn him earlier, it's because they didn't want to interrupt him.
* CaptureAndReplicate: Derek's plan (or at least Stage One of said plan) is to replace the humans with Pistachions and lock them up, until they outnumber the humans. Planning this took him about ten years, and he appears [[BadFuture to be rapidly succeeding fifty years after that]]. He himself had replaced an intern, as well as Orton Mahlson shortly before the filming of the Dr. Zone pilot episode.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Wearing the Orton mask for fifty years has caused his head to permanently take on its shape.

However while Orton was by no means a good actor himself, he was a good enough writer to gain a cult following. While Derek was 'neither' a writer or an actor. So the show ended up being so bad it was canceled after only two episodes, causing the mega-hit Dr. Zone franchise to be RetGone from the present, and delaying Derek's plan by decades.
* EvilGloating: When he outnumbers Milo, Dakota, Cavendish and Orton, Derek monologues about his evil plan, which is apparently long enough for the gang to escape. When he berates his fellow Pistachions why they didn't warn him earlier, it's because they didn't want to interrupt him.
* CaptureAndReplicate: Derek's plan (or at least Stage One of said plan) is to replace the humans with Pistachions and lock them up, until they outnumber the humans.
