In ''Z'' Goten and Trunks say that Super Saiyan 3 drains so much energy they can only use it for five minutes and it cancelled their fusion, and when they do use Super Saiyan 3 against Buu, it does just that right before they're able to kill him. Vegito ''does'' purposely get absorbed, but defuses unexpectantly, which is later retooled to be a time limit. [=SS4=] Gogeta in [=''GT''=] and Vegito Blue in ''Super'' had their fusion end much earlier under the excuse of energy consumption, even though both [=SS4=] and Blue are more energy efficient than [=SS3=] (At least in the anime for Blue's case). * NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: In [[Anime/DragonBallYoSonGokuAndHisFriendsReturn Son Goku And His Friends Return]], Goten and Trunks do a failed fusion, and somehow are capable of undoing the fusion on the spot and trying again. Goku and Vegeta were not capable of undoing it after a failed fusion in [[Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly Broly]], nor were Goten and Trunks themselves capable of undoing it in [[Anime/DragonBallSuperSuperHero Super Hero]] after a failed fusion too.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: While Gotenks was one of the strongest fighters when he was first introduced because he is the FusionDance of the spoiled Trunks and the naive Goten, his immaturity stops him from actually ever achieving anything meaningful. For example, after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and obtaining Super Saiyan 3, the two decide to spend time creating AwesomeButImpractical attacks over spending the remaining amount of time left to train themselves or even Gotenks, resulting in many of their attacks doing nothing to Super Buu. They even hold Super Saiyan 3 back to act heroic, which causes things to get worse because they didn't account for Piccolo having a GodzillaThreshold: destroying the doorway leading back, trapping them inside. This is further shown in the ''Super'' version of ''Resurrection "F"'' as, despite Frieza being in his first form and easily beatable, all Gotenks did was fly around the world multiple times just to headbutt Tagoma in the groin. When focused on Frieza himself, his grandstanding led to his fusion running out.
** This also permanently stains Goten and Trunks' reputation amongst the Z-Fighters; in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', during the Tournament of Power, [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten the boys are told outright they won't be taken on the team because the last time Gotenks was relied upon, he completely screwed things up]]. They also point out that the two are not skilled enough in battle and would be easily knocked out by more skilled fighters, so they go with WeakButSkilled fighters who can compensate for their weak power with skill and strategy.

* GoodIsNotSoft: Downplayed. Against Janemba, he quickly eliminates the incarnation of evil in just a few quick moves, but makes sure to leave the oni that Janemba was using the body of unharmed. [[spoiler:In ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'' however, Gogeta was absolutely willing to ''kill' Broly despite knowing that he wasn't one who reveled in violence. That said, he was glad to see Broly was wished away.]]

* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler:The only conceivable reason Gogeta let Frieza go in ''DBS: Broly'' despite being very much a monster that seeks the death of many people is that the fusion was so confident in his own power that he figured that he didn't view the tyrant as a threat to take care of.]]

* TheRival: Fans often speculate on who would win in a fight between him and Vegito, with different answers coming from different sources. Their pre-battle quotes in Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 lampshade this, with Vegito questioning whether the earings or the dance provide the stronger fusion as he faces off against Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. During several video game openings, Super Saiyan Gogeta is also shown facing off against Broly. [[spoiler:In ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', Gogeta is the only one capable of standing up to and defeating Broly, effectively cementing their rivalry in a sort of AscendedFanon.]]

* NiceJobBreakingItHero [[spoiler:Sparing Frieza instead of just killing him in the Broly movie enables Frieza to continue his schemes, eventually culminating in Frieza surpassing Goku ''and'' Vegeta in strength during the Granloah arc.]]

** The Metamoran fusion was stated to have a cooldown time of one hour after fusion (failed or successful), meaning it was quite easy to eat up time if it wasn't done right, however, this is quickly forgotten and fusees can just fuse again right after separation if nothing stops them. ** The potara fusion was stated to be something that lasted forever, with the only reason Vegito defused was due to the bizarre way Buu's body works. ''Super'' later changes this to Potara being permanent for anyone who's fused with a kai, otherwise, it only lasts an hour, making it a more practical version of Metamoran fusion.

Some fans assume that the "o" at the end originates from the "o" in "Goku".

* FailureHero: He's hyped up to be the warrior destined to save the universe from Majin Buu, but he utterly fails at doing so, getting his ass handed to him by Fat Buu and losing to Super Buu because he was too busy showboating and trying to make himself look cool. This continues into ''Super'', where he doesn't contribute anything useful whenever he appears; he gets spanked by Beerus, defuses before he can even throw an attack at Frieza because of his time-consuming posturing, and is curb-stomped by Copy-Vegeta's base form. * LaterInstallmentWeirdness: Easily one of the ''strangest'' techniques produced in the series as they are constructs that can act and think independently, and as Buu later shows, they can even use their own techniques. Even when ''Super'' and ''GT'' take place years later, there's ''nothing'' that comes close to a technique like this.

** ZigZagged depending on the opponent and how well they match up to them. Kefla wasn't much good against Ultra Instinct Goku as neither Caulifla nor Kale were polished fighters and had little experience with finesse or technique, whereas Ultra Instinct Goku is finesse and technique maximized plus tons of power.

* AdaptationalBadass: Downplayed or played straight, depending on your point of view. While his Super Saiyan form was extremely powerful, his strength was upped dramatically in ''GT'' where he becomes a Super Saiyan 4. He was the most powerful character in the franchise until the post-''Battle of Gods'' era. In the new era, it's somewhat nebulous as to how powerful Super Saiyan 4 is compared to Blue,[[note]]The only time they've appeared together is ''Heroes'', which not only plays hard and fast with continuity and power levels but has the two forms fight in 3 adaptations of the same story, each with a different result: the manga and anime have them clash evenly, with the anime seemingly though disputably implying 4 is stronger through fusion the game has Blue come out on top.[[/note]] but the fact remains that he's clearly a strong fighter. [[spoiler:In ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Gogeta Blue is arguably the strongest non-angelic character outside of perhaps full power Jiren and Ultra instinct Goku. Plus by virtue of how strong Goku and Vegeta have become since the Future Trunks Saga, he is inherently stronger than his Potara counterpart in his last appearance]].

** He can also access all transformation techniques known by Goku and Vegeta -- he's been shown using Super Saiyan, [[spoiler:Super Saiyan Blue]], and the non-canon Super Saiyan 4 in ''Dragon Ball GT'', but also technically has access to Kaio-ken x20, Super Saiyan 2, 3 and [[spoiler:God, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution and Blue Kaio-ken x20]]. Despite his short time limit, the fact he's never had to go beyond Super Saiyan [[spoiler:Blue]] (and easily dealt with an opponent that was too much for [[spoiler:Super Saiyan Blue Goku ''and'' Vegeta using just Super Saiyan)]] speaks volumes of his strength if he ever decided to go out.

* ShowyInvincibleHero: Likes to play with his prey as a Super Saiyan 4. [[spoiler:In ''Dragon Ball Super'', he is far less conservative with using ki attacks compared to Vegito, who just used his Spirit Sword and Final Kamehameha. The sheer spectacle of his abilities is dialed way up against Broly, launching an enormous barrage of simultaneous Kamehameha beams downward, and creating a massive column of ki that completely envelops Broly and results in a huge explosion. He ultimately ends up using 3 different finishing moves on Broly to try and bring him down and keeps increasing his power output when the previous attack falls short. He even proudly announces, "Now it's our turn!" after swatting Broly's beams aside in base form before powering up to Super Saiyan.]]

* StrongAndSkilled: He is able to draw on Goku's vast experience as a martial artist and Vegeta's history as a warrior. He doesn't usually show too much skill due to his overwhelming power, as he elected to immediately kill Janemba, and his speed was fast enough to knock Omega Shenron around without having to even rely on feints or creating an opening. [[spoiler:However, in ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', his skill is on full display and ends up being more of a factor than his immense power. Even though base Gogeta is likely a bit weaker than Super Saiyan Broly, he simply dodges all of Broly's attacks instead of blasting them away. While he uses many extremely powerful attacks as a Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue, he also always elects to dodge or reflect Broly's Ki Attacks back at him to minimize damage. This results in Broly getting exhausted much faster than Gogeta, even though the latter is on a literal time limit no matter what he does.]]

* AdaptationalWimp: Kefla in the anime is one of the three strongest fighters in the entire Tournament of Power, with Goku needing to go Ultra Instinct to win, and it is stated that Kefla was stronger than him with it, but the innate power of Ultra Instinct prevented her from managing to beat him. Only Jiren and Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku are for sure stronger than her, with God of Destruction Top being possibly around her level. In the Manga, while her strength is still impressive, she's comparable to Gohan in his Potential Unleashed form due to both Caulifla (and Kale to a much lesser extent) being significantly weaker than her anime counterpart. Kefla freely admits that Gohan is putting up a challenge; "Even though I'm merged, I can't even beat a single Saiyan".
* AmazonianBeauty: She looks attractive enough in her base form, but once she transforms, she gains some lean musculature compared to Kale's weightlifter physique.

* BreakTheHaughty: Despite being very full of herself in regards to her strength, Kefla begins to have second thoughts [[spoiler:after the unexpected and sudden reemergence of Goku’s Ultra Instinct transformation]].

* ClimaxBoss: Serves as one of them in the anime and the "sole" one in the manga before the Pride Troopers. In the anime, she's fought after Goku discovers his Ultra Instinct form and serves as a very tough opponent (while Agnilasa serves as the last non-Universe 11 fighter that Universe 7 fights). In the manga, not only does she take Agnilasa's role as the last non-Universe 11 fighter, but she also takes out a ton of fighters herself as well!

** In the manga, Kefla tools the Pride Troopers minus Jiren and Top, knocking six [[WeAreTeamCannonFodder minor members]] out and decking Dyspo with a single punch, all in about two pages.

** In the anime, at max power, it's remarked that Kefla is stronger than UI Goku when he first awakened his ability. While she never landed a single blow against him and was ragdolled constantly, she never took any damage either, and [[NoSell actually mocked Goku's punches as weak]]. She comes close to outlasting him too, with him acknowledging that if he makes a single mistake, it's over (and if he had gotten hit by her last blast, he would've been finished).

* DesperationAttack: When Ultra Instinct Goku powers up a finishing move, she concentrates her energy into intense lasers that can cut through anything, trying to keep Goku on the defensive. She also mixes in regular ki blasts to keep him on his toes.

* EnergyBall: Kefla's main spherical blasts come in the form of "Fist Cannonball" and "[[MoreDakka Continuous Energy Bullet]]". Additionally, she can have six energy balls at once follow her around, as she demonstrates when chasing UI Sign Goku down a mountainside.

** When Champa gave Caulifla and Kale the Potara, he told them to not use them lightly, likely due to a combination of not being sure if the Potara is permitted in the tournament and that, if they fuse, they might be considered only one fighter, bringing down U6's remaining fighter count. It's only when Goku decisively defeats them, and is about to ring them out, that Caulifla brings up fusing.

** In the manga, she instead was only used as a last resort because Kale's power grew so dangerous that nobody could stop her. When Kale began knocking out her own teammates, Caulifla, after being told what they do, has no choice but to use the earrings to stop Kale and calm her down.

* OhCrap: After seemingly defeating Goku and aiming to finish him off, she has this reaction when he unexpectedly [[spoiler:reawakens Ultra Instinct and dodges her attacks as if they're child's play. She has another one when he unleashes a point-blank Kamehameha in her face and eliminates her.]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome: [[spoiler:Unfortunately, she came into being after Goku had discovered Ultra Instinct. Once Ultra Instinct kicks in, he blasts her out of the ring. She also wouldn't have been able to beat Jiren with her power and possibly God of Destruction Top.]]
* PhysicalGod: Thanks to being the fusion of two powerful Saiyans, she becomes among the strongest fighters in the Tournament of Power, managing to give a hell of a fight against a tired Goku. Whis states her power rivaled the Spirit Bomb made by the members of Universe 7. However, her power is not enough to awaken Jiren from his meditation but was enough to trigger Goku's [[spoiler:second time using Ultra Instinct]].

* SignatureMove: Gigantic Breaker, which is an enhanced beam version of her lesser-known move, Gigantic Blast. She's also known for Ray Blast, which is her shooting out her ki in Omni-directional attack, hitting just about everything near her.

* SuperSpeed: The first thing she did during the Tournament was to do a flash step behind Super Saiyan God Goku just for the kicks, not unlike Jiren.

* UnskilledButStrong: Like her component parts, Kefla has little battle awareness or restraint, and her techniques consist of increasingly large, often impractical energy blasts. She is clearly not in total control of her power either, and overreaches and unbalances herself twice through her inability to regulate her speed. In terms of raw power though, she is the strongest person in her universe and stands among the top fighters in the tournament without any doubt. Her raw power as a Super Saiyan was on par with Goku's [[StoryBreakerPower Spirit Bomb]], and was on par with [[spoiler: Ultra Instinct Goku]]. [[spoiler:It ultimately costs her, as while as Super Saiyan 2 she was actually stronger than UI Goku, she lacked the skill of someone like Jiren to actually keep up with and hit UI Goku, thus allowing him to outmaneuver and ultimately ring her out. It's telling that she's ultimately beaten not by her final KamehameHadoken being overwhelmed by Goku's, but by Goku dodging around it and blasting her when she can't react to counter it]].

* WalkingSpoiler: The likelihood of a fusion, much more a Potara-based one subtly teased since the Tournament of Power's intro, was deemed as unlikely due to the ambiguously flexible rules surrounding item usage. The creation of Kefla shattered those beliefs.
* WorldsStrongestWoman: She is not only the strongest female mortal of Universe 6 but is also the strongest warrior of Universe 6 in terms of battle power thanks to her status as a fusion. As a byproduct of this, she's also the strongest female character that isn't a God of Destruction, or an Angel in ''Super''. It's quite telling she can give a match to Super Saiyan God Goku and alert Vegeta of her presence ''in her base form''.

While his Super Saiyan form was extremely powerful, his strength was upped dramatically in ''GT'' where he becomes a Super Saiyan 4. He was the most powerful character in the franchise until the post-''Battle of Gods'' era. In the new era, it's somewhat nebulous as to how powerful Super Saiyan 4 is compared to Blue,[[note]]The only time they've appeared together is ''Heroes'', which not only plays hard and fast with continuity and power levels but has the two forms fight in 3 adaptations of the same story, each with a different result: the manga and anime have them clash evenly, with the anime seemingly though disputably implying 4 is stronger through fusion the game has Blue come out on top.[[/note]] but the fact remains that he's clearly a strong fighter. [[spoiler:In ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Gogeta Blue is arguably the strongest non-angelic character outside of perhaps full power Jiren and Ultra instinct Goku.[[note]]How strong Broly and Gogeta are relative to Jiren and UI Goku is fairly nebulous. Restrained Jiren was largely unphased by the early Tournament of Power Goku and Vegeta, but did react to attacks. Super Saiyan Broly dominates both Saiyans at their post Tournament power levels without issue. With these forms is about equal to regular Gogeta. But considering how much stronger Blue is than Super Saiyan (Blue is just equal to Wrathful Broly, who no-sold a punch from a Super Saiyan God, which is a form capable of lasting against a restrained Beerus, who took out Super Saiyan 3, 500 times stronger than Super Saiyan, with one move), it's probably safe to say that Gogeta in his Blue form is stronger than either Jiren or UI Goku.[[/note]] Plus by virtue of how strong Goku and Vegeta have become since the Future Trunks Saga, he is inherently stronger than his Potara counterpart in his last appearance]].

** And to top it all off, in [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', Gogeta faces Super Saiyan Broly, who forced Goku and Vegeta to retreat as Super Saiyan Blues. The last time this happened, they were up against Jiren, a mortal whose power exceeded Gods of Destruction even when such a thing was thought impossible. Goku achieved the impossible and defeated Jiren using Ultra Instinct. Gogeta manages to get the job done without ever having to go above Super Saiyan Blue. His use of Savage Strike, like Vegito and Vegeta, also implies he can destroy blasts made of Destruction Energy, which ordinarily erase whatever they touch from existence.]]

* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: He immediately annihilates the seemingly-unstoppable Janemba, and brings Omega Shenron to his knees in mere moments. [[spoiler:As for Broly, a warrior who causes Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta to flee even when Jiren didn't manage to scare them away, Gogeta initially deals with him in base form, before jumping to Super Saiyan for a bit more of a kick, and then completely overwhelming Full-Power Broly with just Super Saiyan Blue.]]

* GodzillaThreshold: Vegeta and (to a lesser extent) Goku dislike the idea of having to team up against an enemy, let alone fuse to fight them. Gogeta was first brought out against Janemba's Final Form, who was able to easily outpace Super Saiyan 3 (and as previously indicated, being in the Other World should have already been mitigating Super Saiyan 3's stamina drain, so it was likely more powerful during the movie than against Kid Buu). In ''Dragon Ball GT'', Gogeta was the absolute last resort against Omega Shenron after both Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta together were unable to defeat him. [[spoiler:During ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Goku and Vegeta work together using Super Saiyan Blue without much hesitation once Broly reaches just his Super Saiyan form, but are unable to do anything against him. Promotional statements for the movie suggest Broly is stronger than Jiren, and Goku himself speculates Broly may surpass Beerus in power. The lack of Potara Earrings at the moment forces Goku and Vegeta to use the Metamoran Fusion Dance to have a chance at defeating Broly.]]

* LightningBruiser: He's so fast he can hit an opponent multiple times ''before you see his arms move''. [[spoiler:Even in base form, Gogeta actually manages to fly between Broly's flurry of beams just like Goku did with Jiren's - except Goku had to use Ultra Instinct to jump between them. He casually swats away the remaining beams before he even decides to power up to Super Saiyan, and goes toe to toe with Broly while countering or shrugging off every attack the hulking Saiyan throws at him. When Gogeta goes Super Saiyan Blue, ''all'' of Broly's Ki attacks as a Full-Powered Super Saiyan are either deflected back or completely fail to hit him whatsoever, with Broly’s attempts to close into melee [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown invariably ending with him being beaten stupid while impotently trying to fend Gogeta off]].]]

* ATasteOfPower: Due to Metamoran Fusion combining and multiplying the maximum power of both people involved, while Gogeta is around Goku and Vegeta (indirectly) gain access to power surpassing that of a God of Destruction even without the use of Ultra Instinct. Of course, once the Fusion ends they revert to their original maximum power, which still somewhat falls short.

* AdaptationalWimp: Kefla in the anime is one of the three strongest fighters in the entire Tournament of Power, with Goku needing to go Ultra Instinct to win, and it is stated that Kefla was stronger than him with it, but the innate power of Ultra Instinct prevented her from managing to beat him. Only Jiren and Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku are for sure stronger than her, with God of Destruction Top being possibly around her level. In the Manga, while her strength is still impressive, she's comparable to Base Form Gohan due to Caulifla being significantly weaker than her anime counterpart. Kefla freely admits that Gohan is putting up a challenge; "Even though I'm merged, I can't even beat a single Saiyan".

* OvershadowedByAwesome: [[spoiler:Unfortunately, she came into being after Goku had discovered Ultra Instinct. Once Ultra Instinct kicks in, he blasts her out of the ring. She also wouldn't have been able to beat Jiren with her power, and God of Destruction Top would've likely been enough to defeat her as well.]]
* PhysicalGod: Thanks to being the fusion of two powerful Saiyans, she becomes among the strongest fighters in the Tournament of Power, managing to give a hell of a fight against a tired Goku. Whis states her power rivaled the Spirit Bomb made by the members of Universe 7. However, her power is not enough to awake Jiren from his meditation but was enough to trigger Goku's [[spoiler:second time using Ultra Instinct]].

* SignatureMove: Gigantic Breaker, which is an enhanced beam version of her lesser-known move, Gigantic Blast. She's also known for Ray Blast, which is her shooting out her ki Omni-directional, hitting just about everything near her.

* SuperMode: She gains Kale's unique controlled Super Saiyan transformation, which gives Kefla some musculature into her body. She, like Caulifla, states she isn't satisfied with it and brags to Goku she will obtain the Super Saiyan Blue transformation. [[spoiler:The manga instead gives her a slightly better version of Super Saiyan, due to Kale not having the Berserk transformation.]]

* SuperPowerLottery: Being a Saiyan is this in itself. The ability to grow by leaps and bounds even in the middle of a fight is Goku's trademark, and it served Kefla nearly as well as her fight with Goku pushed her to extreme levels of power that she couldn't have accessed otherwise.

* TheLoad: As powerful as he is, Gotenks becomes this due to his childish and arrogant nature, caring more about showing off and making himself look cool than actually saving the world, which bites him in the ass ''big-time'' when he goofs around, which just keeps making the situation worse; in this order, he gets himself and Piccolo trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, enables Buu to escape and eat all of his loved ones, and gets himself absorbed by Buu, allowing Buu to beat Gohan senseless. Come the Universe Survival Saga, the rest of the Z-Fighters are well aware of this, and decide right off the bat that Gotenks is ''far'' too LethallyStupid to be trusted with anything revolving around the Tournament of Power. Even without Gotenks's personality issues, he is too inexperienced compared to the other competitors and being only a temporary fusion (unlike Piccolo, Saonel and Pilina's Namekian permanent fusion), Trunks and Goten would likely have enter separately which means Team Universe 7 would be down a member by proxy of fusion.

* HasTwoMommies: Though he's never around long enough to make much of it, Bulma and Chichi and Goku and Vegeta are his biological moms and dads, respectively. Played with when his moms compare which of their kids' traits he takes after, and lampshaded in ''[=FighterZ=]'' when he openly wonders how to refer to his two fathers.

* ButtMonkey: By the ''Super'' era, he counts as this. Aside from headbutting a Ginyu-possessed Tagoma [[GroinAttack in the groin]], he has yet to do anything remotely useful in the rare instances that he appears. He gets literally spanked by Beerus, defuses before he can even throw an attack at Frieza because of his time-consuming posturing, fails to stand up to Copy-Vegeta's base form, and gets purposefully left out of the Tournament of Power. Even Mr. Satan was considered before him.

That being said, if the fusion is powerful enough, they can potentially ascend to transformations that neither fusee had reached yet, as in the case of Gotenks going Super Saiyan 3 when neither Goten nor Trunks could.[[/note]] in the case of AllYourPowersCombined, which can even be [[AbilityMixing more literal when attacks are combined like the Final Kamehameha]]. Also, fusion characters gain all of the instincts, fighting skills, and experience of their fusees. Also, if the personalities and character traits of the fusees complement each other (I.E. their combined positive traits reduce their negative traits) then the new fusion character could end up being the perfect warrior from a mental standpoint.[[note]]For instance, Goku's positive traits are that he can relax and be laid back which reduces stress, has [[DontThinkFeel incredible intuitive fighting instincts]], and [[BloodKnight loves fighting strong warriors for their own sake]] rather than it being about domination or ego-stroking. On the other hand, Goku [[DidntThinkThisThrough tends not to plan ahead]], tends to lead things on for his own amusement in spite of the danger, and tends to get caught off guard. In contrast, Vegeta is an [[TheStrategist excellent tactician and always thinks ahead]], is always on his guard, and [[NoNonsenseNemesis can reign in his battle lust when the situation calls for finishing the fight fast (and if needed, permanently)]]. Coupled with Goku and Vegeta having mastered the super Saiyan form, Super Vegito had no time limit ''or'' stamina issues to worry about - essentially taking all the advantages of Gotenks with none of the downsides.
