* SpikeShooter: She was born with a condition that makes long spikes appear all over her body when she's emotional or threatened.

* BoobsOfSteel: Hiratakuwagata has a chest as large as Ichijikukobachi's and the strength to match them.

* DidntSeeThatComing: Hiratakuwagata gets defeated by Kabutomushi chopping one of her legs off upon suddenly using the Heracles is a giant pair of scissors, after both of the stag beetle's younger selves were so confident that she could still finish Kabuto off.

* EasilyForgiven: Downplayed. Kinohadakamakiri is shown to have terribly abused and raped Hanakamakiri after adopting him, to the point the boy has a nervous breakdown upon meeting him again during the Death Caterpillar game. Even so, Hanakamakiri has just enough StockholmSyndrome, begruding respect and gratitude for his master's assassination teachings to only have claimed one of his eyes when they parted ways and acts polite around him while cooperating to let Imomushi find Ageha.

* CallingTheOldManOut: Dorcus wants to prove herself to Kabutomushi and avenge her fellow students [[OffscreenVillainy who died under Kabuto's care]]. Miyamakuwagata is a selfish guy who wants to get back at Kabutomushi for how she humiliated him with her supernatural strength. The other two, then... [[FlatCharacter what other two?]]

* CreepyChild: She is the leader of the quartet and does all the talking, fancying herself a pro assassin. Then she goes and transforms into an adult.

* DualAgeModes: The reason Himekuwagata wears oversized clothes is because she can force her body to grow when she is in danger and needs more power. Her teen and adult forms turn out to have split personalities of their own.

* {{Blooper}}: Chapter 64 starts with her naked while trying to fuck Hanakamakiri. Once we see HowWeGotHere she suddenly has underwear on, which is especially odd given how otherwise the story was published in a seinen magazine and had no problem with showing nudity with other female characters either before and after this.

* RapeAsBackstory: She became so emotionally repressed in an effort to avoid harming others with her spikes that she ended up letting a rapist take her to a hotel without any resistance, only to instinctively kill him anyway.

* {{Expy}}: Resembles Manga/BlackJack.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Creator/OsamuTezuka must be spinning on his grave. Although he looks [[{{Bishonen}} quite different]] from how Tezuka portrayed himself in comics he does at least wear the characteristic beret hat.

* DeadAllAlong: The real Akiho got her head [[CruelAndUnusualDeath crushed into paste]] by Imomushi.

** Ageha blackmailed a young girl into becoming a sex slave to her and her mooks for kicks until they ended up killing her. Even some of the Shidemushi cleaners are disturbed by her actions when they dispose of her corpse.

* QuirkyMinibossSquad: It was taking quite a while for Kabuto to have a stag opponent, so how about four at once? They're a group formed by a little girl who piggybacks on a tough man who wears shades, a girl with PeekABangs and [[MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily shark teeth]] and a [[FatBastard practically spherical fat]] [[BaldOfEvil bald dude]] who's [[PerpetualSmiler always grinning]].

* ArmCannon: While trying to free himself from Kumo's noose, Paraponera swings over [[CrateExpectations to a crate]] and shoves his artificial blade-arm on it. ''Inexplicably'', it gets [[GatlingGood neatly attached to a minigun]].

* BadassNormal: He has no unusual powers.

* HeelFaceTurn: After taking a beating from his former student, Kinohadakamakiri hands over his envelope and decides to help him along.

The bug-themed psychos who oppose Imomushi in ''Caterpillar'', a spinoff to ''Manga/{{Arachnid}}''.

* DecoyProtagonist: Introduced as Imomushi's partner, only to soon betray her and get killed.

* NoNameGiven: Averted as his real name is Otani Hercules, in a rare case of a bug assassin being named before ''Blattodea''.

* BadassTeacher: Was the one who taught the mantis fighting style to Hanakamakiri.

* ElegantGothicLolita: Dresses in this fashion.

* EyeScream: Hanakamakiri lured Kinohadakamakiri during graduation, acting like they should remain as servant and master, only to stab him in the eye and run away.
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears one over his right thanks to [[TheDogBitesBack Hanakamakiri stabbing his eye]] after graduation. And it just so happens that he's friends with a big-breasted lady, like Sara and Kuramoto from the main story.

* TheWorfEffect: He's the first one to take on Paraponera inside Ageha's ship. This predictably doesn't go too well for him.

* BringMyBrownPants: Shoichiro pretends to hit her with a lightning-fast MegatonPunch, stopping short of her face. She's so scared that she falls on her back peeing and admits defeat.

* DrivenToSuicide: He seemingly meant to disappear and commit suicide after reaching his peak as an assassin-mangaka, but when his right arm became disabled he was actually still doing derivative works of his own series in secret. Ageha took advantage of Osamushi's frustration by convincing him to help her in exchange for regaining his youth and replacing his right arm with a wondrous shape-shifting weapon.

The assassin ranked 8th within the Organization.

* AnimalMotifs: [[PrettyButterflies Swallowtail]] [[ButterflyOfDeathAndRebirth butterflies]].

** Mika wants Imomushi violated and killed because she [[RapeLeadsToInsanity snapped from all the abuse she suffered]] and feels [[ShaggyDogStory it was all wasted]] because Imomushi ended up captured by the Organization and turned into an assassin instead of living peacefully.

* WalkingSpoiler: The current Akiho is really Imomushi's sister Mika who went crazy from despair and is suffering from a bizarre shapeshifting condition.

* DissonantSerenity: He casually killed children at Pomario as if eating snacks at night and could only nonchalantly scold Ran for breaking into his room when she found Yuki horrifying impaled on the Heracles blade.

* DoubleWeapon: Owned the Heracles Horn, a large double-bladed sword based on the Alligator the protagonist of ''Manga/{{Jackals}}'' wielded.

* CombatPragmatist: Himekuwagata' visible left arm is actually fake and serves to hide that she's holding a gun in her real left hand.

* KickTheDog: Stabs Togehamushi just to piss Shoichiro off.

* PunnyName: ''Osamu''shi. Ha. His actual name is also just Osamu, with a "Tsukado" surname instead of "Tezuka".

* FatBastard: Pretty much.

* LackOfEmpathy: Paraponera only used people to satisfy his thrist for battle. However, he did somehow raise a daughter.

* CainAndAbel: Mika wants to kill Imomushi because the sacrificed everything for her in vain, but ends up deliberately confronting Imomushi in a way that lures Paraponera into aiming for herself first and is fatally wounded. Imomushi, who acknowledged she deserved to die by Mika's hand, laments that despite everything Mika was still looking out for her.

* SplitPersonality: The traumatized Mika started coping by vizualizing Akiho as an imaginary friend who cared about her. This turned into the shapeshifting split personality condition previously seen with Himekuwagata, which ended up saving her from death when she was strangled.

* WorthyOpponent: Considered Imomushi this after his first defeat to her.

* YouKilledMyFather: Himekuwagata loathes Kabutomushi for killing her sister, which Kabuto doesn't even remember doing. Turns out this "sister", Ookuwagata, is really one of her two split personalities who asked Kabutomushi to dial down on the deadly TrainingFromHell in exchange for her going dormant and not beating the crap out of Kabuto.

* NotSoInvincibleAfterAll: She believes her spikes can counter anything, but freaks out and gives up when Shoichiro proves he could punch her head off before they can trigger.

* DrivenToSuicide: He meant to commit suicide after reaching his peak as an assassin-mangaka, but was convinced by Ageha to help her in exchange for regaining his youth and replacing his right arm with a wondrous shape-shifting weapon.

* OlderThanHeLooks: Currently looks younger than Shoichiro for some reason.

* SuperpowerMeltdown: He's nuclear-powered [[spoiler:and eventually explodes into a mushroom cloud]].

* BondageIsBad: Forced a little girl to be her sex slave for 5 years.
* CommissarCap: Wears one as part of her nazi imagery.

* DyingAsYourself: It is revealed Imomushi actually brutally killed Akiho when she found Mika was being abused to near-death. Mika was later revived and was made to replace Akiho, whom Mika had already started to act like out of madness. When the two sisters meet, Imomushi does all she can to reason with her, only for Paraponera to fatally injure Mika. Only when Mika is about to die do they make peace.

* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Blackmailed a young girl into becoming a sex slave to her and her mooks for kicks until they ended up killing her. And Ageha pretty much is only still after Imomushi just for revenge about having her fun ruined back then. Mika, on the other hand, wants Imomushi violated and killed because she snapped from all the abuse she suffered and feels it was all wasted because Imomushi turned into an assassin.

* SplitPersonality: Because Mika starts believing herself to be Akiho, her body transforms to look like Akiho.

* AnimalMotifs: The Carabinae subfamily of beetles, which happens to feature a ''Calosoma'' genus that preys on caterpillars...
** Aside: His ''Manga/AstroBoy'' character also had a stag beetle bug motif. Because ''of course'' it did.

** Osamushi impales her navel with a rapier and she passes out for the rest of the story. How ironic.

* KickTheDog: Stabs Bokugehamushi just to piss Shoichiro off.

** The bald guy is an Aegus laevicollis.

* CurbStompBattle: When Himekuwagata gets walloped into the sea, the other three take their chances at fighting Kabutomushi. Each one then gets shoved aside with increasingly less effort from her. Aegus even goes down without doing anything!

** Dorcus curvidens attempts to throw Kabutomushi over herself, but Kabuto lands on her and starts choking her.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: Only Dorcus seems to become anything of a threat to Kabutomushi once she swims back to the ship and gets serious.

* {{Stripperiffic}}: Aegus only has underwear on. And then there's Titanus and her ChainmailBikini that comes out of nowhere.

* AnArmAndALeg: Kabutomushi eventually catches Dorcus off-guard with the scissor function of the Hercules Horn and chops her right leg off.

* GoingCommando: It is made obvious that Himekuwagata isn't wearing panties, but when she becomes Hiratakuwagata a ChainmailBikini inexplicably shows up on her.

* MsFanservice: When Dorcus grows into her voluptuous titanus form and rips her clothes off, [[MaleGaze no points for guessing how that is portrayed]]. She has a FanDisservice aspect to her, though, since not only Dorcus was a kid with no underwear (as implied by several obscured upskirt shots) just a few minutes before, that child self is still conscious on her head.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: Even as a little girl, Dorcus is strong enough to lift Kabutomushi with one arm.

* SelfMadeOrphan: Himekuwagata killed her AbusiveParents by [[{{Gorn}} crushing their heads into paste]].

* YouKilledMyFather: Himekuwagata loathes Kabutomushi for killing her sister, which Kabuto doesn't even remember doing. Turns out this "sister" is really one of her two split personalities who went dormant after making a deal with Kabutomushi years before.

* ButtMonkey: Much like Oki in this spinoff, Miyamakuwagata, Nokogirikuwagata and Aegus just kind of stand quietly to the side making [[OhCrap funny faces]] while Dorcus and Kabutomushi fight. When they do attack the rhino beetle, only Miyamakuwagata does any semblance of damage to her.

* FlatCharacter: Nokogirikuwagata and Aegus get next to no characterization and their attempts to beat up Kabutomushi are so lackluster it's hard to believe they're her graduates.
* SatelliteCharacter: The Dorcus gals are the only ones out of those people who matter. Miyamakuwagata does at least get a backstory, but the other two don't even get that outside of an illustration in volume 9 implying Aegus and Nokogirikuwagata came from opposite social classes, with sawtooth girl being the dirt-poor one.

* AnimalMotifs: Spiny leaf beetles.

* BringMyBrownPants: Shoichiro scares her enough with a pretend sucker punch to the face that she falls on her back peeing.

* FullFrontalAssault: She's butt-naked under her cloak, which, [[TheVamp well]], [[ClothingDamage is "justified" by her power]].
* HeelFaceTurn: Guides Shoichiro and Riock around the ship after she's defeated.

* SpikeShooter: She can't fire them, but her SpikesOfDoom do have a decent reach. Could she be the most tsundere of bugs?

* ILoveNuclearPower: He's nuclear-powered [[spoiler:and eventually explodes into a mushroom cloud]].

* AnimalMotifs: Not fireflies, but ''[[MacabreMothMotif Pidorus glaucopis]]'' moths, which are known as "firefly moths" in Japan. She deceives people to her advantage, like how hotarugas hide among fireflies.

* TheCorrupter: He hoped for Hanakamakiri to turn into a sadistic assassin. When Hanakamakiri claims he'd like to turn Imomushi into a limbless sex slave, Kinohadakamakiri is pleasantly surprised by how he can even imagine that, even thought it's an obvious lie.

* GracefulLoser: When Hanakamakiri fights him to a standstill.

* YouAreAlreadyDead: He makes blades suddenly pop out of people, but no damage is done for a set amount of time. He even calls the trope by name.

* AbsoluteCleavage: Her dress gives a generous view of her bust, especially when she's knocked over and her breasts are left exposed.

* AnimalMotifs: Velvet worms, which aren't insects but do descend from a common ancestor (the idea of caterpillars directly evolving from them, however, [[https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/controversial-caterpillar-evolution-study-formally-rebutted/ is rejected by the science community at large]]). And crickets as well.
* BadassTeacher: One of the very few masters in the series who didn't act like a total jerkass to his pupil.
* ChekhovsGunman: He first appears as a MrExposition in one of the episodic bug fun fact scenes, lecturing the reader about crickets.
* CoolOldGuy: He's the ''Kamen Rider'' mangaka as a kickass assassin with CoolShades.
* MegatonPunch: Pretends to do one on Bokugehamushi, stopping just short of her face. The huge shockwave from the move plus the fear factor still incapacitates her by causing a PowerIncontinence. He later performs one that hits harder than Osamushi's own 100000 horsepower steel arm.
* NoSell: Like Imomushi, he can let blunt force flow evenly through his body in such a way that all damage winds up on the floor he stands on.

* CreepyChild: It doesn't take long for them to creep out Imomushi with their... curiosity. They take off what little clothes she's wearing when Jigabachi paralyses her and begin happily groping her until they get into an argument and begin throwing each other around instead.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: They later try to harass Gokiburi. While she does reluctantly show off her body to the boys, she also takes nude pictures of them and blackmails the triplets into carrying Kabutomushi's secret weapon for her.
* MadeOfIron: For disrespecting her personal space so much, Imomushi hits them hard enough to cause shockwaves over the surrounding rooms. The kids just comically run away crying while holding their aching heads.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: Jigabachi and them only managed to be a minor setback for Imomushi.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: The triplets play catch by throwing Imomushi. They have amazing grip strength thanks to a device on their hands, but their power level in general is just unnatural as they seem to have been cloned from Kabutomushi.

A prostitute who works for the Organization. Imomushi asks her to [[MustNotDieAVirgin take Hanakamakiri's virginity]] before they go on their mission on the Ageha cruise ship, but...

* AttemptedRape: An annoyed Hanakamakiri asks that Kyoko gives him only the massage services so she wouldn't have come for nothing, but Kyoko gets him drowsy with pleasure and forces herself on him anyway.
* BitCharacter: Only appears on a single gag BreatherEpisode.
* {{Blooper}}: Chapter 64 starts with her naked while trying to fuck Hanakamakiri. Once we see HowWeGotHere she suddenly has underwear on, which is especially odd given how otherwise the story was published in a seinen magazine and had no problem with showing topless scenes with other female characters either before and after this.
* EpicFail: Imomushi got scared of Hanakamakiri's equipment when she tried to have sex with him, so she asks Kyoko to do it instead. Kyoko boasts about her erotic techniques as a bed bug, which turn out to just be trying to dunk a onahole on the boy rather than proper intercourse. A flabbergasted Imomushi catches her on the act and makes her stop. This, ''of course'', correlates to how bed bugs of both sexes have fake genitalia to deal with traumatic insemination from males.
