''Seeing as how webcomics generally include inexperienced or non-professional artists, Art Evolution is often the default. Please do '''not''' list transitions from monochrome to color.''

* ''GoGetARoomie'' is one that shows a rapid , but even progression of art quality that is quite staggering, to be honest. The proportions start out with very small bodies and larger heads and the lineart was done in sharp, scratchy lines. The art quickly transitions into computer-done graphics with soft, flowing, and tapering lines. Chloe goes from drawing things like [[http://www.gogetaroomie.com/index.php?id=3 This]] to [[http://www.gogetaroomie.com/index.php?id=281 this]] and [[http://www.gogetaroomie.com/index.php?id=283 this]].
* ''AcademiconExVirtus'' changes really quite rapidly, even adopting full color pages.
* Visible, not that it needed it at all from the start, in ''{{Lackadaisy}}''. As you progress through the comic, you see the lighting becoming more expressive and detailed (thanks to computer rendering) and the characters becoming more proportionate and closer to human body types. Every panel looks like an authentic 1920's photograph.
** Compare [[http://www.lackadaisycats.com/comic.php?comicid=1 the first comic]] to the [[http://www.lackadaisycats.com/comic.php latest one]].

* Over the course of two years, ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod'' has improved a lot: [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7/tower-of-god_v1_ch1_by_the-company Exhibit A.]] [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/108937/tower-of-god_v2_ch20_by_the-company Exhibit B.]]
* {{Monsterful}} Has shown tons of improvement in both it's gray-scale and colored versions, including lineart, coloring, shading, texturing, lettering and though not as widely used, in backgrounds as well.
** Refer to these [[http://www.monsterful.com/chapter01page12.php Chapter 01-12]], [[http://www.monsterful.com/chapter08page18.php Chapter 08-18 ]] and [[http://www.monsterful.com/chapter16page22.php Chapter 16-22]] for gray-scale evolution comparison or these other pages [[http://www.monsterful.com/znp01-01.php Question #1]], [[http://www.monsterful.com/znp16-04.php Question #16-04]] and [[http://www.monsterful.com/znp21-01.php Question #21]] for colored evolution comparison.
* SailorMoonCS completely changes its art style the second issue and changes from color to a black and white format in the forth issue
* ''SupernormalStep'' has some really impressive Art Evolution. Comparing current pages with the first few shows a clear improvement in coloring, background detail, proportions, and shading. Compare Hall and Eva from their first appearance in [[http://supernormalstep.com/8/ Chapter 1]] with the first page of [[http://supernormalstep.com/160/ Chapter 5]].
* ''CwynhildsLoom'' has changed significantly since its beginning. The artwork can often shift significantly between updates and has leaned more towards realism over time. Cwyn's hair is a prime example.
* Compare [[http://www.collectedcurios.com/sequentialart.php?s=1 the first strip of]] ''Webcomic/SequentialArt'' with [[http://www.collectedcurios.com/sequentialart.php?s=519 this callback strip of the same situation.]] You can't even tell it's the same character.
* ''PKComic'' shows a definite improvement in the art over just the first few comic strips
* This got a good LampshadeHanging in ''[[http://www.comedity.com/index.php?strip_id=139 Comedity]]''.
* Also got a lampshade in the "[[http://www.graphicsmash.com/comics/fans.php?view=archive&chapter=9323&mpe=0 Full Circle]]" arc of ''{{Fans}}!'' where the heroes encounter themselves from the past. How do we tell the two groups apart? The ones from the past are drawn in the old art style.
* ''SeriousEmotionalDisturbances'' does this, but it is intentional. The artist believes that the art should grow up with the comic/characters.
* ''{{Darkbolt}}'': From 1999 to 2003 Sean updated his art style so that it looks way more crisp and clean than before, in 2005 he started with full color pages every weekend or every so often and by 2008 full color pages were being done a lot more.
* Completely averted in ''Webcomic/DinosaurComics''. Part of the comic's gimmick is that it always uses the exact same image for every single comic. The only thing that changes is the dialogue.
* Averted in ''OrneryBoy'' in terms of character art, but definitely evolved when it comes to handling Flash
* ''SilentHillPromise'': The first few screens do not have colored backgrounds.
* ''DreamCatcher'' has had a noticeable improvement.
* ''AGirlAndHerFed'' switches from quick sketches to high details and color in just one strip. Check out [[http://www.agirlandherfed.com/1.470.html this strip]] and compare with [[http://www.agirlandherfed.com/1.472.html this one]].
* ''QuestionableContent'' is in a constant state of incremental artistic alteration, as artist Jeph Jacques likes to try out new things and use the strip as a means to improve his skills; his motto is, "If you don't like the art, come back next week, it'll probably be different". To see just how drastically his artwork has shifted over time, check out the [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=4 difference]] [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=230 between]] [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=892 these]] [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1177 five]] [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1470 strips]].

*** If Jacques Tumblr is anything to go by, we are about to see [[http://jephjacques.tumblr.com/post/680213233/practicing-drawing-dora-her-face-has-been-giving another major change]] in style
* The style of ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' has changed drastically over the course of its run. Compare Nanase and Justin in [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-04-07 this strip]] (the redhead, and the blonde guy), and in [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-07-04 this strip]]. ** Compare [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-01-26 this]] vs. [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-02-26 this]]. Same characters, same artist, 8 years. ** For a direct comparison check out [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-06-14 this]] strip versus the ones linked to in the commentary.
* ''Webcomic/{{Zap}}'' is a good example of Art Evolution, in a positive sense. Example: [[http://www.zapcomic.com/2003/07/20030725/ Reona, Issue # 4]] vs [[http://www.zapcomic.com/2011/03/519-left-out/ Reona, issue # 519]].
* Another very striking example is ''WapsiSquare'', whose [[http://wapsisquare.com/comic/09092001/ initial sketchy art style]] quickly developed into [[http://wapsisquare.com/comic/08062004/ a much more professional look]].
* ''Webcomic/MegaTokyo'' also changed quite a while during its run, with a cartoonish style that gradually becomes more realistic and with a more detailed shading. If you want a reference, compare strips [[http://www.megatokyo.com/strip/9 #9]], [[http://www.megatokyo.com/strip/500 #500]] and [[http://www.megatokyo.com/strip/1025 #1025]].
* ''DanAndMabsFurryAdventures'' is a long-running series, and over time has evolved from being very crudely drawn to being very well drawn as the artist learned how to draw. The artist herself has commented that looking back at her old art is painful.
** This is [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in-universe when Dan is shown a picture of himself from one of the earlier strips and [[http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_492.php claims it was a bad photo]].
*** It's changed even more since that one. Just look at Dan [[http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1017.php here]] if you need proof.

* ''PennyArcade''. [[http://penny-arcade.com/comic/1998/11/18/ This]] is the earliest strip on record. [[http://penny-arcade.com/comic/ Penny Arcade now.]]
** As of October 2008 there's a noticeable difference between the drawings in the comic and ''on the header of the website''.

*** Lampshaded in this [[http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/9/8/ NSFW comic]]; the corresponding front-page post has Tycho praising Gabe for the leap that has occurred over the years.

** [=MacHall=] [[http://www.machall.com/view.php?date=2000-11-07 started]] by emulating then-current Penny Arcade strips. It ended like [[http://www.machall.com/index.php this]]. As of its SpiritualSuccessor [[http://www.threepanelsoul.com/ Three Panel Soul]], Ian is ''still'' getting better.
* ''{{PVP}}'' has undergone several art evolutions, which are often [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]]. Comparing the [[http://www.pvponline.com/2010/09/10/serif-buellers-day-off/ most recent strips]] with the [[http://www.pvponline.com/1998/05/06/wed-may-06/ oldest ones]], shows a ''dramatic'' shift in style over the years, though except for a few large leaps, these have largely been gradual changes accumulated over time.
** This has included the accumulation of characters that do not fit the style of the comic's main cast, demonstrating that Scott Kurtz could evolve the art even further if he wanted to. [[http://www.pvponline.com/2008/02/07/unexpected-guests/ One good example is Brent's father, "Rip,"]] though the recent cameo by [[http://www.pvponline.com/2010/09/30/paddle-tale/ Robert Khoo is another.]]
** The character who's arguably changed the most is Jade Fontaine (compare [[http://www.pvponline.com/1998/05/05/tue-may-05/ her first appearance]] with [[http://www.pvponline.com/2010/09/20/getting-drafty-in-here/ her in 2010]]), which is [[http://www.pvponline.com/2000/10/28/sat-oct-28/ lampshaded at one point]].
* The art style in ''Webcomic/{{Misfile}}'' has gone from heavily shaded, more straight-line art to a lighter and more rounded look so gradually you never notice the shift while reading it. However, it is quite jarring if you go back and read some earlier panels. Compare [[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=13 this]] to [[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=1213 this]]
* ''Webcomic/HeroInTraining'' has changed so much that the author has completely re-done the first chapter.
* ''Webcomic/GunnerkriggCourt'', although its art has always been quite good, has become vastly less stylised (in the perspective and the characters' anatomy) over time. Compare [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=18 this]] [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=19 scene]] in Chapter 2 with [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=437 this flashback to the same scene]] in Chapter 18.
** Lampshaded [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=784 here]], where the characters recap the entire events of the comic to another (mercifully offscreen).
--->"The first few chapters of exposition looked a little weird."
* The very first ''{{Nedroid}}'' comics were hilarious, sketchy, and experimental like [[http://nedroid.com/2006/04/2116-soapsystem/ this one]]. Over time his style smoothed out. Experiments still [[http://nedroid.com/2012/03/the-final-leap/ pop up]] but never break too hard from the established style.
* ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'', the first comics of this continuity appear sloppier, and the artist had a less accurate perception of human anatomy. Especially {{egregious}} in his [[http://www.sluggy.com/daily.php?date=970826 second strip]], where Torg goes from looking 12 in the first panel, 16 in the next, and finally 21 in the last panel. That, and in the first strip, Riff's looking more like a troll than anything else.
** Also, primarily starting with the "Fire and Rain" arc, the format has shifted away from "three panel strips with a punchline and full-color Sunday" to longer and more dramatic layouts throughout the week. Has a lot to do with the CerebusSyndrome.
** For example, compare the art in the above early gag strip with [[http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/020713 one from the dramatic and violent "Dark Days Ahead" arc]] from 2002. The strip, as of this post, looks like [[http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/101115 this]], although the very best artwork was probably from the (long, very dark, and spoileriffic) "That Which Redeems" arc from a few years ago.
* The ''VGCats'' artist has almost completely redesigned the way he draws the two main anthropomorphic cat characters. He has redrawn some of his old comics using his new style. Every strip looks slightly different, though there is definitely a pattern. For example, his newer stuff is a lot more {{animesque}} than his old stuff, and its pretty obvious that hes relying on his computer a lot more.
* ''Webcomic/SchlockMercenary''. The creator points this out in the annotation to the very first strip, as well as providing what he apparently considers a better starting point for new Schlockers, but invites them to see his art progress from 'bad to, well, marginally less bad' by starting at the beginning.
** He gets a lot of practice doing a strip a day. The difference between [[http://www.schlockmercenary.com/d/20000612.html the first comic]] and [[http://www.schlockmercenary.com/index.html The most recent one]] is... noticeable to say the least.
* ''Webcomic/{{Adventurers}}'' went from [[http://www.adventurers-comic.com/d/0001.html this]] to [[http://www.adventurers-comic.com this]], and is lampshaded [[http://www.adventurers-comic.com/d/20050115.html here]].
* ''Webcomic/TheAdventuresOfDrMcNinja'' started out in stark black and white. Then in issue 6, Kent Archer began shading the pages in Photoshop in addition to inking them. In issue 8, a computer problem forced Hastings and Archer to start posting updates without the proper shading. Positive reactions from a vocal portion of the fanbase led Hastings and Archer to run a poll to see if the fans preferred the comic shaded or unshaded. After the results were in, the authors [[TakeAThirdOption Took a Third Option]] and hired Carly Monardo to color the comic.
* ''Webcomic/MoltenBlade'' has undergone gradual art evolution... definitely a change for the better
* ''DrowTales'' has gone from quite frankly sucky art, to [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=751 impressive]]. The early example there is even a larger step up from the original chapter 1 art than the page it's being compared to, it just kept improving.
* ''{{Earthsong}}'''s artwork improved over the years to the extent that the creator completely restarted the comic from the beginning. And, unusually for such endeavours, is still seeing it through.
* ''{{Fanboys}}'' has gone from [[http://fanboys-online.com/index.php?comic=1 this]] to [[http://fanboys-online.com/index.php?comic=311 this]].
** Lampshaded [[http://fanboys-online.com/?p=37 here]] as the creator re-uploads the archives to a new site.
* ''{{Darken}}'', quite impressively.
* The webcomics of John Allison have undergone [[http://www.scarygoround.com/ar.php a lot of evolution]], which isn't surprising given that he's been at it for ''ten years''. See Shelley, the red-haired girl in the first ever strip of ''Bobbins'', [[http://bobbins.keenspot.com/d/19980921.html here]] in 1998? By 2000 she looked like [[http://bobbins.keenspot.com/d/20000928.html this]], then [[http://bobbins.keenspot.com/d/20020327.html this]], and then ''ScaryGoRound'' started, with a [[http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php?date=20020828 new artistic direction]]. Since then, the art has changed from [[http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php?date=20041129 digital]] to [[http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php?date=20050829 hand-drawn]] and [[http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php?date=20060221 back again]] [[http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php?date=20081209 twice]]. The art's been fairly stable now since 2006, despite a switch from pen and ink (digitally coloured) to hand-drawing on a tablet PC.
* ''OutAtHome'''s artist has been in art school for the duration of the strip, and man, does it ever show. It went from [[http://www.out-at-home.com/archives/16 wonky black-and-white pen]] to [[http://www.out-at-home.com/archives/899 animation-quality]] in only 14 months!
* ''LastRes0rt'' evolves so rapidly that you can tell when Rachel's worked on other projects between strips thanks to the jumps in quality. Compare [[http://www.lastres0rt.com/?p=24 this strip drawn in May 2007]] to [[http://www.lastres0rt.com/?p=86 this one from May 2008]].
** And for good measure, here's [[http://www.lastres0rt.com/2009/05/objects-in-bottle-are-larger-than-they-appear/ May 2009]] and [[http://www.lastres0rt.com/2010/05/she-learns-fast/ May 2010]].
** The characters themselves get a fair bit of evolution as well -- The two most obvious examples are Adharia's face (which is slowly becoming more lionlike as opposed to, say, a bear or a wolf) and Jigsaw's eye stripes, which gradually creep further down her face.
* ''UGMadness'': Compare [[http://www.ugmadness.net/index.php?date=2004-05-18 this]] (the first appearance of [[TwoGamersOnACouch Dom and Ty]] and the 3rd comic overall) to [[http://www.ugmadness.net/index.php?date=2008-12-29 this]] (the last comic, number 471).
* ''AppleGeeks'' has had numerous changes in art style, most noticeably between #195 and #196, and had a recurring alternate artist, for yet another [[ArtShift shift.]]
* Over time, ''VenusEnvy'' has gone from a [[http://venusenvy.comicgenesis.com/d/20011224.html crudely drawn]] {{Animesque}} style, to a more [[http://venusenvy.comicgenesis.com/d/20050808.html nicely drawn]] {{Animesque}} style, to its westernized [[http://venusenvy.comicgenesis.com/d/20081124.html current look]].
* ''KhaosKomix'' has gone through an immense evolution, to the point that the author was so displeased with the old ones they rewrote and redrew them. Three times. At the moment, the art style is a bit inconsistent, as the {{Retcon}}s have been done where there were plot holes, leaving patches of the previous style between newer parts. The [[OldShame old versions]] are available on download as .zip files.
* The art in ''Webcomic/MikeBookseller'' has gotten a lot neater since it began in 2003.
* ''{{Chibi Miku-san}}'', as can be seen with [[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/266930/-_-4koma-chibi-comic-hatsune_miku-hungry-kagamine_ the first strip]] and [[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/398997/-_-4koma-chibi-comic-hatsune_miku-hungry-kagamine_ the remake of it]] 230 strips later.
* ''Webcomic/PennyAndAggie'' used to use a cartoonish art style reminiscent of ''{{Archie}}'', but gradually moved towards a more realistic style. To put it in perspective, compare [[http://www.pennyandaggie.com/index.php?p=1 the very first strip]] to [[http://www.pennyandaggie.com/index.php?p=777 this one]] recreating the same scene.
* Starline Hodge's ''[[http://candicomics.com Candi]]'
* ''Webcomic/LeastICouldDo'' has had significant changes in style over the years. Compare [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20030210 this]] comic to [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20030717 this one]], [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20030728 this one]], [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20051112 this one]], and [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20090219 this one]]. The style greatly changed to a more realistic, detailed, and colored one. This is less due to "the artist getting better" and more due to "changing artists several times over the course of the comic."
** The evolution was demonstrated in [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20090731 this]] strip as a celebration of the 2000th strip. For record, the second from the left was the first known version of the character. It's up to Wild Man Guessing as to who the first guy is.
* The art of ''CollegeRoomiesFromHell'' has gone from "[[http://www.crfh.net/d/19990212.html those are supposed to be people]]?" levels at the beginning, to "[[http://www.crfh.net/d/20060109.html damn, I wish I could draw half that well]]." The six characters in the first comic and the six in the second? ''Same people''. (And yeah, that one guy did pick up a tentacle for a left arm along the way. Just read the comic.)
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' went from black-and-white to color, and Phil Foglio's skill at anatomy has also improved; for the first couple of years, he was especially prone to making character's heads too small for their bodies (Klaus and Othar were the most common victims) and the occasional giant hands or freakishly long forearms. He's straightened out now, though, and it's one of the best-looking webcomics out there.
** The change from black-and-white to colour was story-driven; the change coincides with [[spoiler:the theft of Agatha's locket, [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021122 unleashing her brain]]]]
** ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' has also gone through a lot of evolution when it comes to inking and coloring. While YMMV, the low point was probably the start of volume 2, where Foglio's pencils were practically un-inked and the new color was applied in eyeball-searing neon gradients. The style has gelled since, with better inking and a more subtle, attractive palette.
** Although there is still the odd [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20080107 slip.]]
* Although ''{{Lint}}'' [[http://www.purnicellin.com/lint/]] is not as popular as some other examples here, the absolutely enormous difference between early, black-and-white, amateurish art such as [[http://www.purnicellin.com/lint/2004/01/12/01122004/ this]] can barely be recognized as the gorgeous, textured masterpieces [[http://www.purnicellin.com/lint/2007/07/27/07272007/ like this]]. And it's gotten even better if more {{Bishounen}}y.
* ''Striptease'''s evolution is an insane jump from [[http://www.stripteasecomic.com/d/20000930.html this]] to [[http://www.stripteasecomic.com/d/20090428.html this]]
* The artist for ''Triquetra Cats'' collected her evolution in [[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/JessicaRaven/artevorain.jpg this image]]
* ''TheLifeOfNobTMouse'' went from poorly hand-drawn sketches as demonstrated by [[http://www.nobmouse.net/1996/12/05/welcome-mr-nob/ the first strip]] to a far more rounded, streamlined style including subtle shading and backgrounds, [[http://www.nobmouse.net/2010/09/24/a-growl-in-the-dark/ like this]] strip from 14 years later.
* Similarly, ''AllOverTheHouse'' has evolved from crude, angular characters in its first few comics to rounded, coloured and shaded characters after only a few months. Compare [[http://www.alloverthehouse.net/?p=7 this first outing]] to [[http://www.alloverthehouse.net/?p=87 its latest episode]].
* Averted for all intents and purposes with ''UserFriendly'' which has gone from [[http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=19971202=classic this]] to [[http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20091114 this]] in just under 12 years.
* In ''ComingUpViolet'', the comic has gotten [[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/bdaniel/violet/series.php?view=archive&chapter=21726 noticeably]] [[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/bdaniel/violet/series.php better]] in the few short years it's been out. Its predecessor FurWillFly had quite a bit of this as well . . . possibly. It was pretty hard to tell considering just how much the [[ArtShift art shifted]] from arc to arc. There were at least three different artists.
* ''TheCyantianChronicles'': See the first comic in Campus Safari. Then see the current Akaelae strip. Very different [[ArtShift art style]], definitely better art quality.
* ''Webcomic/EightBitTheater'' has gone from [[http://www.nuklearpower.com/2001/03/02/episode-001-were-going-where/ this]] to [[http://www.nuklearpower.com/2009/07/16/episode-1153-federalist-interpretation-of-physics/ this]]. It's quite funny to see Art Evolution in a sprite comic.
* ''SamAndFuzzy'', [[http://www.samandfuzzy.com/1 then]] and [[http://samandfuzzy.com/1121 now]].
* ''PolkOut'''s improved a bit, as seen [[http://www.polkout.com/page1.htm here]] and [[http://www.polkout.com/page210.htm here.]]
* ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' has retained its simple stick-figure art, but it has become somewhat less scratchy and smoother, and the characters occasionally have new details added to them (with LampshadeHanging). This is a lot more noticeable in the panel lines -- they started out all over the place, and now they're completely straight. The sheer detail in the background of panels, even pretty simple ones, has gone up quite a bit as well much of the time.
** The character designs have also drastically improved; when the artist had to take some time off due to a hurt wrist around the hundredth strip, he took the opportunity to improve the character designs, adding details like a clasp to Elan's cape (which had been superglued to the back of his neck or something before that) and the runes around the bottom of V's cloak. Over time he has started using more standard character models, making the art far more consistent and [[OffModel slip-ups]] less frequent.
* ''Webcomic/TimesLikeThis'' has changed '''drastically''' since day one. Compare the [[http://www.timeslikethis.com/?id=1 "introductory strip"]] back in 2007 to a [[http://timeslikethis.com/?id=509 retelling]] of the discovery in 2012.
* Here's [[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/eddurd/everydayheroes/series.php?view=single&ID=74000 Summer and Carrie]] from an early ''EverydayHeroes'' page -- and a [[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/eddurd/everydayheroes/series.php?view=single&ID=157302 more recent]] one.
* ''{{Kagerou}}'' shows ''vast'' improvement in the time it's been going, and the artist has [[http://atomicfireball.deviantart.com/art/Kagerou-Ch-3-P1-REMIX-131612028 done an obligatory side-by-side remake page to show it.]] Although, the remake shown there doesn't quite do justice to Luka's improvement. [[http://www.electric-manga.com/43/06.html This does.]]
* There's been considerable art evolution in the WalkyVerse, as one might expect over a fifteen-year run, but it's especially noticeable over the ''It's Walky'' run due to large number of flashbacks caused by the CerebusRetcon. Observe: [[http://www.itswalky.com/d/19970908.html Roomies! #1]], [[http://www.itswalky.com/d/19991225.html It's Walky! #1]], [[http://www.shortpacked.com/2005/comic/book-1-brings-back-the-80s/01-just-a-toy-store/just-a-toy-store/ Shortpacked! #1]], [[http://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/comic/book-1/01-move-in-day/home/#comment Dumbing Of Age #1]].
** For a better example, compare the [[http://www.itswalky.com/d/19970908.html first 2]] [[http://www.itswalky.com/d/19970909.html Roomies! strips]] with [[http://www.joyceandwalky.com/d/20070910.html this one drawn for the 10th anniversary of the series]].
** Just look at '''fifteen years'' [[http://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/blog/joyce-in-fifteen-years/ worth of Joyce]].
* ''BiggerThanCheeses'' underwent the biggest Art Evolution ever. Here is the [[http://biggercheese.com/index.php?comic=1 very first strip]] and here is [[http://biggercheese.com/index.php?comic=817 one of the latest ones]]. Thankfully, the jokes got better as well.
* Lampshaded in ''Webcomic/OzyAndMillie'' [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2005/07/15/ozy-and-millie-1479/ here]] with an ArtShift.
* ''{{Acrobat}}'' starts off with [[http://www.drunkduck.com/Acrobat/index.php?p=82531 rough lines]] and slowly changes to [[http://www.drunkduck.com/Acrobat/index.php?p=610036 smoother ones]].
* ''{{Narbonic}}'' and then ''SkinHorse''. It's most obvious as you look at how Shaenon Garrity does her fills and backgrounds.
* ''{{Twokinds}}''. It started out looking like something a beginner with only a how to draw manga book as a guide, and currently is rwaching near-professional quality. Just compare this [[http://twokinds.net/?p=10 this early strip]]with[[http://twokinds.net/?p=511 this later one.]]
* The webcomic ''[[http://www.shapequest.net/ Shape Quest]]'' features a nice "upgrade" in detail following Chapter 3.
* Amazingly averted in ''WebComic/SabrinaOnline'', which has been running since 1996 without the art style or quality changing in any way whatsoever.
* ''ChasingTheSunset'' has gone from "crude" to "''gorgeous''". Alien has gone back and redrawn the prologue, so now it's [[http://www.fantasycomic.com/index.php?p=c24 "decent"]] to [[http://www.fantasycomic.com/index.php?p=c560 "OMG PRETTY!"]]
* ''CharbyTheVampirate'', the author summed it up in [[http://www.medinoc.fr/web/ImagesDiverses/Charby%20-%20ArtEvolution%20-%20Cast.jpg this picture]]. She added that if she could draw as well as she does now when she started the comic, the characters would have looked like [[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/Zerlocke/ctvclassicstyleposter.png this]].
* The ''Series/DoctorWho'' fancomic ''Search For the Truth'' began like [[http://girl-on-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Search-for-the-Truth-01-67839795 this]]. Over time, the art became more clean and details and today the Doctor [[http://girl-on-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/SFTT-ORIGINS-Claire-Part-1-145260430 actually looks remarkably]] like DavidTennant. Interestingly enough, SFTT is technically a ''toned-down'' version of the artist's style, as flipping through her gallery will yield some ''beautifully'' photo-realistic Doctor Who art. Wordlessly lampshaded [[http://girl-on-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Search-for-the-Truth-31-139900696 here.]]
* ''{{Khatru}}'''s creator has blamed some of the comic's {{Schedule Slip}}age to his fiddling around with the art style.
* ''[[CiemWebcomicSeries Ciem]]'' went from [[http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j130/bulldozerbegins/Ciem/24/24-39.jpg this]] to [[http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j130/bulldozerbegins/Ciem2/01/01-25.jpg this]], without even changing [[VideoGame/TheSims game]] [[{{Machinomics}} engines]]!
* In an unusual reverse example, ''GirlsWithSlingshots'' has actually become less realistic and more cartoonish over time. Compare Hazel and Jameson in [[http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/GWS001.html the first strip]] with their [[http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/GWS632.html more recent look]].
* ''Webcomic/{{Collar 6}}'' starts out black and white, and quickly shifts to color.
* ''Niklas and Friends'' has gone from looking like [[http://www.niklascomics.de/comics/kidhood/hood07.htm this]] in 1998, to looking like [[http://www.niklascomics.de/comics/shopping/shoppin3.htm this]] in 2005.
* ''{{Juathuur}}'' has a slow but steady art evolution, that is most apparent in the passage from black and white to full color.
* ''{{The-FAN}}'' started with ugly thick lines, inconsistent text boxes, and lots of gradient fills. and went with them for a long time. The most changes occurred during episode 3, when the author finally learned how to use layers properly, and halfway through the episode, when the thick lines were abandoned in favor of sketchy lines due to technical issues. The latest change happened halfway though episode 4 when the sketchyness was turned down.
* ''PlanesOfEldlor'': The artist has stated that she is intentionally using this comic to evolve her skill and style, which is already somewhat evident in the comic archive.
* The first ''[[Webcomic/TwentyFirstCenturyFox 21st Century Fox]]'' strips were barely legible black and white pencil sketches, since then it has upgraded to full color and occasional animated gifs.
* ''AMagicalRoommate'' quite visibly improved during its first strips, and still manages to maintain its trademark {{stick|FigureComic}} / {{animesque}} hybrid style.
* ''Webcomic/TheWhiteboard'' takes it a step further: not only Art Evolution, but also a medium change. The original medium was ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin (which has become an ArtifactTitle).
* ''BittersweetCandyBowl'' shows this very clearly, going from lined paper with a simple grid layout to its current form of inventive panelling and exquisite toning.
* "Selkie" has improved quite a bit, and the artist does like experimenting from time to time. Compare [[http://www.selkiecomic.com/selkie-2/ this]] and [[http://www.selkiecomic.com/selkie29/ this]] to [[http://www.selkiecomic.com/selkie227/ this]] and [[http://www.selkiecomic.com/selkie276/ this]]. Whoa...
* This trope can even apply to photocomics: If you take one of the [[LongRunner older]] themes in ''IrregularWebcomic'' and compare the first strip with a more recent strip (for example the Cliffhanger strips [[http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/24.html 24]] and [[http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/2297.html 2297]]), you can see how far David Morgan-Mar's photography skills and/or equipment have improved.
* ''{{Springiette}}'' style has evolved, with now much more detailed backgrounds and consistent character design.
* The artwork of Josh Lesnick has been evolving constantly through his entire career as a webcartoonist, and is particularly noticeable through his time drawing ''{{Girly}}'', a comic that started out as very {{animesque}} (much like his past projects, ''Wendy'' and ''[=CuteWendy=]''), and eventually evolved into something more organic. This is also very noticeable in his [[BleachedUnderpants porn comics]], sometimes starring characters from ''Wendy''.
* In another mostly stick art comic, ''Left Handed Toons'' has improved considerably -- particularly Drew. This is probably because the artists are getting used to drawing with their [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin left hands]]. Compare [[http://www.lefthandedtoons.com/1/ this]] and [[http://www.lefthandedtoons.com/433/ this]].
* Aside from the generally improving styles over its course, ''KeychainOfCreation'' pulls off a major evolution in [[http://keychain.patternspider.net/archive/koc0319.html comic #319]], which goes from partial stick-figures to fully fleshed bodies. For bonus points, it hangs a huge lampshade on it by having the evolution occur as a function of Secret and Marena's sorcery initiation, implying that it's actually one of the rules of the universe.
** And again in [[http://keychain.patternspider.net/archive/koc0379.html comic #379]].
* ''SlightlyDamned'': One of the [[http://www.sdamned.com/2004/05/05012004/ first pages]], compared to [[http://www.sdamned.com/2007/01/01272007/ the middle]] of the comic's run, and finally the [[http://www.sdamned.com/2009/07/07052009/ current style]].
* ''Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures'' as a whole has undergone immense changes over time. ''Webcomic/ProblemSleuth'' went from [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=4 this]] to ''[[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=4&p=001736 this]]'' in a little less than a year. One year after ''that'' in the latest adventure, ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'', we get [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=003568 this update]] which effectively illustrates how much more skilled Hussie has become with animation since the series started.
** Although Hussie's writing and animating skills noticeably improve throughout MSPA, in regards to art skills the trope is actually subverted; his drawing skills are far beyond what any of his comics, even Homestuck, actually require, so his art skills have actually gotten ''worse'' due to lack of practice.
* ''Webcomic/TheOtherGreyMeat'' The characters have undergone significant changes from their original design.
* ''NatureOfNaturesArt'' 's 10%+ story has artwork that improved significantly near the end of the [[ArcFatigue incredibly long]] battle between Meander and Quintet versus Rule and Polarizing. So much so that looking at the older strips is actually a little jarring, even after the artist re-drew a few.
* The creator of ''Webcomic/{{Mulberry}}'' posted a [[http://torquesmacky.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1gajg7 picture]] on his DeviantArt detailing the evolution of the title character.
* [[http://www.shastrix.com/thefan/index.php?comic=79 This filler comic]] of Webcomic/TheFan illustrates how much the art has changed during the course of the first three episodes. An art shift caused a decline in quality but the comic has been recovering. [[http://www.shastrix.com/thefan/index.php?comic=287 This is a more recent strip]], black and white, but one of the better ones.
* ''HannaIsNotABoysName'' started out rather well, but became amazing within a few months.
* ''TheInexplicableAdventuresOfBob'' -- Check out the very first [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20060511.html spaceship roof crash]] compared with a [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20090811.html recent giant robot jumping on Bob's roof.]] For that matter, check out the [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20060603.html early Princess Voluptua]] compared with a [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20100206.html more recent version.]]
* Though the art in ''MenageA3'' was good from the first issue onwards and the art style overall has remained pretty consistent for such a long-running comic, the series is slowing shifting from a straightforward ArchieComics style and occasionally incorporates a few manga features like enlarged eyes (Recent examples from end 2010):
** Compare Zii from [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20080529.html early in the comic]] to a [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20110108.html more recent incarnation]]. She seems noticeably younger now.
*** It seems like Zii was just wearing make up in the first strip and none in the other, though. However, her eyes do seem bigger.
** Lita (Zii's cat) has gotten decidedly [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20100817.html less grumpy and ugly-looking]] since her [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20080603.html first appearance]]. Maybe hanging out with Gary is having an effect on her.
** Another example of the art evolution is Yuki. Between her [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20090407.html first appearance]] and her [[http://www.menagea3.net/d/20101127.html most recent appearance]].
** Even Gary's had some work done, in early strips he was gangly and a little goofy-looking but now he's {{Adorkable}} and Grade-A MrFanservice.
*** Part of that is just the audience realizing that he looks pretty good naked.
* ''{{Juathuur}}'' goes from black-and-white with occasional color strips in "One Way or Another" to fully color with more fully fleshed-out character and background designs in "Gatecrash."
* In ''{{Fite}}'', each strip has a header with portraits of the main characters. However, by the start of Round 4, the art had evolved to the point that Lucco and Guz's faces in-comic no longer matched the old header pictures. The header was updated a few strips later.
* ''DominicDeegan'' has definitely become cleaner compared to the old scribbles.
* ''CtrlAltDel'' went from kind of scribbley to clean and consistent thanks to a file of body parts, and later he goes back to drawing all the characters individually. Buckley is currently experimenting with watercolor textures.
* ''TheDevilsPanties'' were more the scribbles of this comic personality but portions and cleaness of the lines has gotten better with time.
* TalesOfAGayAsian is obviously a great example of this for 2 reasons 1.It is the creator Brian Morris's first comic and 2. Due to his busy schedule and other comics he draws 8 pages of gay asian weekly. Which attributes to the art change and how he is progressively getting better.
* {{Archipelago}} starts out very scribbly in book one. Each progressive book gets a little better, with excellent quality work appearing in book 6. Compare [[http://archipelagocomic.com/comic/?id=22 this]] with [[http://archipelagocomic.com/comic/?id=583 this]].
* The creator of [[http://www.drunkduck.com/dragon_city Dragon City]] and [[http://www.drunkduck.com/Jix Jix]] is constantly improving his art to the point where the beginning of the comic doesn't really look like it was drawn by the same person as the current comic.
* ''LeveL'' has an unbelievable amount of Art Evolution going from [[http://www.levelmanga.com/level.php?page=1&episode=1&large=true&cover=false a rather bland manga-like style]] to [[http://www.levelmanga.com/level.php?page=1&episode=5&large=true&cover=false THIS]].
* ''Webcomic/{{Freefall}}'' has seen modest amounts of art evolution, especially from the full-page magazine comics to its current webcomic form.
* NoNeedForBushido underwent a massive Art Evolution, going from artwork that wasn't bad, but wasn't very good, either (as seen [[http://noneedforbushido.com/2002/comic/5/ here]]) to something lifted from a spectacularly well drawn cel shaded movie (as seen [[http://noneedforbushido.com/2009/comic/349/ here]], with iiiiitty bitty spoilers. Teeny tiny ones.). Thee best part is that it was a gradual shift, rather than a more sudden one.
* ''MiscellaneousError'' went through very rapid Art Evolution over its first 4 strips. It's almost as though the author was an ameteur with no prior experience or something.
* ElfBlood's art has progressed in leaps and bounds over the past year of its life. Change tends to happen fairly slowly and organically, but the biggest change was also the earliest, changing to full-color from black white and screentone after a few weeks of publishing. Consistency in the art style seems to have settled in in the last story arc or so, resulting in fewer obviously off-model characters, and the backgrounds are improving in level of detail as well.
* For VoodooWalrus vast improvements have taken place since the comic first went live in 2007. Compare [[http://voodoowalrus.com/?p=14 this comic]] to [[http://voodoowalrus.com/?p=1689 this]]. Same leading female character, same artist, but 4 years of practice can make all the difference.
* MayonakaDensha's artwork has gone from being [[http://mayonakadensha.thecomicseries.com/comics/62 flat and and toneless]] with very disproportionate characters and little to no backgrounds to [[http://mayonakadensha.thecomicseries.com/comics/321/ this]] and [[http://www.sushi-octopus.co.uk/images/other/WIP002.jpg this]] within the space of a couple of years . The author made the choice to partially or completely redraw some of the older pages which she deemed particularly bad or inconsistent with the story, just look at [[http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpdcxmG3l51qgpg2ro1_1280.png?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1314401508&Signature=%2Fq0oFxF66WLDYsmYn0m9ctkyW90%3D the old and new pages]][[http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpd3g6T9bs1qgpg2ro1_1280.png?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1314403060&Signature=IqFzmQhiu48N80gYT%2FwSKa6cAvs%3D side by side]]
* The artwork of ''Webcomics/{{Goblins}}: Life Through Their Eyes'' has changed so much over the years that the [[http://www.goblinscomic.com/06252005/ first page of the archive]], rather than the first strip, is a page showing just how much the art has evolved. Most recently he has begun shading the comic to dramatic effect.
* ''OffWhite'' had a rather dramatic change. Just compare [[http://akreon.deviantart.com/art/off-white-old-page-94425873 this]] and [[http://akreon.deviantart.com/art/off-white-pg-37-and-38-REDO-255338733?q=gallery%3Aakreon%2F4769272&qo=103 this,]] [[http://off-white-comic.deviantart.com/gallery/?set=24872379&offset=120#/d1j2d3e or this]] [[http://off-white-comic.deviantart.com/gallery/?set=24872379&offset=0#/d3fbnk8 and this]]
* The [[http://westwardcomic.com/comic.php?itemid=10 earlier pages]] of ''Webcomic/{{Westward}}'' have a simpler and rougher appearance than [[http://westwardcomic.com/comic.php?itemid=889 later ones]], though [[http://westwardcomic.com/comic.php?itemid=6 many of them]] have a certain charm precisely because of that cleaner, simpler approach.
* ''[[http://coffin-comics.jesterbrand.com/ Coffin Comics]]'' can be seen with this due to a transition from pencil to digital and again later on when the style was upgraded.
* Lampshaded in [[http://beesbuzz.biz/d/20111126.php this ''busybee comics'' comic]], showing how the artist's self-representation and style have changed drastically [[http://beesbuzz.biz/d/20030831.php over]] [[http://beesbuzz.biz/d/20040622.php the]] [[http://beesbuzz.biz/d/20110925.php years]]
* The evolutions in ''OurLittleAdventure'' came in [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0100.html three]] [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0140.html major]] [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0227.html waves]] and a few small adjustments.
* SkinDeep has improved vastly since its launch in 2006. Compare the [[http://www.skindeepcomic.com/archive/issue-one-page-1/ first page]] of the ''Orientations'' arc to the [[http://www.skindeepcomic.com/archive/issue-five-page-34/ last page.]] And then take a look at [[http://www.skindeepcomic.com/archive/nixie-spit/ Nixie Spit.]]
* Happened to ''Webcomic/{{Roommates}}'' too the early pages had a "chibi" style that gradually evolved into a more realistic (but still animesque) one. You can compare [[http://asherhyder.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=168#/dz0amg this]] to [[http://asherhyder.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=0#/d33fizf this]].
* ''Webcomic/VirtualShackles'': While the art started out somewhat close to where it is now, there have been some changes to shading, ears, and lines to make things seem sharper in general. Compare [[http://www.virtualshackles.com/22 this]] early strip to [[http://www.virtualshackles.com/204 this]] much later one.
* ''Webcomic/RustyAndCo'' demonstrates [[http://rustyandco.com/missives/critical-missives-6/ this]] using the original Princess sketch v.1, then The Princess as-she-appears-in-the-comic sketch v.2 where her design 'get... well, let's say "streamlined"...' -- and the hypothetical v.3 -- in ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' style.
* ''Webcomic/{{minus}}''. [[http://www.kiwisbybeat.com/minus.html At first]], the eponymous character's IdiotHair looked quite normal and possible in real life. However, very soon after that Ryan Armand starts to make minus's ahoge thicker and longer, to the point where [[http://www.kiwisbybeat.com/minus107.html it looks more like a ponytail]] than a few hairs that refuse to be combed.
* It's not suprising that this is the case in ''Webcomic/EarsForElves'', given that it's the artist's first comic. The artist admits that drawing is a learning process and she's experimenting with styles and tones.
* There's a lot of art evolution in the first 10 comics of Webcomic/Level30Psychiatry due to the comic being a year in development before launch and due to coloring and text duties being split. For comparison [[http://lvl30psy.thecomicseries.com/files/extras/gardevoir_0015.png here's the comic when done by the writer, Guybrush20X6 in pencil]], [[http://lvl30psy.thecomicseries.com/comics/pl/177841 when done by GigaNerd17 on the lineart, text and coloring]] and [[http://lvl30psy.thecomicseries.com/comics/pl/185079 with GigaNerd on the lineart, TheMightyBox doing the colouring and Guybrush20X6 on the text.]]
* NuzlockeComics and its spinoffs tend to experience this, enough so that for some people it's as much a part of the challenge as the [[SelfImposedChallenge gameplay restrictions]] are. For the main series, compare [[http://www.nuzlocke.com/pokemonhardmode.php?p=2 then]] and [[http://www.nuzlocke.com/pokemonhardmode.php?p=67 now]].
** Among the spinoffs, Petty did a special episode in her Leaf Green run just to point it out. "[[http://pettynuzlockelg.smackjeeves.com/comics/1182981/the-evolution-of-locke/ This is proof that anyone can improve something they never expected/intended to.]]"
* A minor example in ''Webcomic/TwoEvilScientists'', when [[http://twoevilscientists.smackjeeves.com/comics/523101/the-fight-for-light-pt-1/ here]] it starts using smoother speech bubbles.
* ''Webcomics/ChuckAndBeans.'' [[http://www.shoeboxblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/laughwithworld.jpg This]] is the earliest strip on record. Compare that to a [[http://www.shoeboxblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/obese1.jpg recent]] one.
* ''FluffyBunnyDomination'': The main character's features have notably changed, becoming less detailed with a much larger ponytail and a standard outfit. Many recent strips use the same 3 colors for the background and unnamed characters.
* Useless Dumb Fucks [[http://uselessdumbfucks.webstarts.com/index.html]] and the artist/writer makes fun of it a few times in the comic itself.
