MarqFJA: The Fanservice index markup has gone completely out of wack on this trope's page; it's not displaying it in correct alphabetical order. And where did "Sanae" come from, anyway?

  • Apparently, Hot Shounen Mom has been redirected to Hot Mom, which Sanae also redirects to...I've never heard of that particular term before, though, and it's not in the list of Fanservice tropes, either.

Ununnilium: Okay, I don't like this trope. What turns you on is completely and utterly subjective, and I know people who would enjoy many of these.

Drascin: Well, yeah, it's a very subjective trope - but so is pretty much anything related to Fanservice anyway. I fail to see the problem with this applying differently for each person - it's not like we don't have dozens of extremely subjective tropes running around anyway.

Ununnilium: Honestly, Subjective Tropes are overdone, and this seems to be just a sexual twist on Complaining About Shows You Dont Like.

Drascin: Okay, there I have to disagree. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking a series, if I'm understanding the entry right. I myself love, for example, Evangelion, and have found Rei quite attractive ever since I first watched it (at about 15), but I have to agree that most of her nude scenes are mostly Fan Disservice in that they're creepy enough to diffuse any possible Fanservice that could have been there. More than Complaining About Shows You Dont Like, I'd say this entry is the lovechild of Fanservice and Squick. Of course, like Squick, it is highly subjective.

Katsuhagi: Despite the fact that it is subjective, my interpretation of this trope is that it's when scenes that would be played for fanservice are intentionally made disturbing (like the Eva and Utena examples) so things like the Anne Rice examples might not count. That's my two cents, anyway.

Skazka: I agree with Katsuhagi. Unlike squick, which may be unintentional, fan disservice knows full well what it is. Unlike, say, Anne Rice's books, which actually are quite popular BECAUSE of the weird sex, rather than despite it.

Ununnilium: Fair enough. Pulling out non-intentional examples:

  • The entire premise of Ippatsu Kikimusume consists of placing the heroine in situations that are at the same time mortally dangerous and extremely humiliating. Apparently, it was supposed to be an Ecchi comedy which Crosses the Line Twice. To this troper, it came off as repulsive and Nightmare Fuelish.
  • Any sex scene in any Anne Rice novel, also. Maybe Anne Rice thinks semi-consensual (if that) sex with vampires, daemons and other supernatural creatures is hot, but...

And this is Just No:

  • Hyping Sonic and Solid Snake's presence in Smash Bros. Brawl, then locking them out be default may well be a non-sexual example of fan disservice.

Later: More non-intentional examples:

  • Matrix Reloaded - Neo and Trinity's sex scene. Not only is the mood killed by the constant jump cuts to the ludicrous "rave", but those access ports in Neo and Trinity's backs? Very NOT sexy.
  • Angel Heart: the movie's sole selling point was the promise of a naked Lisa Bonet. Not only is that offset by the bordering on violence roughness of the sex, but by Mickey Rourke at his greasy sleaziest, and ohbytheway, the blood streaming down the walls half way through.
    • And Bonet later winds up having a gun lodged in her baby factory. No friends, this is not your ideal third date movie.

The first was obviously meant to be sexy. And as for the second, if the nakedness is a selling point...

Trouser Wearing Barbarian: Lisa Bonét's nudity wasn't "the sole selling point" of Angel Heart, just the most infamous and controversial aspect of the film. And the Squick of the sex scene was very, very much intentional, especially in context of the Twist Ending.

Bob: Cutting:

  • Monster's Ball: While Hallie Berry's breasts are quite nice, they weren't enough to counter the pure Narm of the scene's "dialog" ("Make me feel GUUUURD!") or the fact that she was getting stuffed and mounted by Billy Bob Thornton at his most... Billy Bob-ish.

Because a Fan Disservice scene should invoke Squick, not Narm.

Freezer: Re: Saikano - That was "surprisingly graphic"? I saw more on the CN edit of Blue Gender... unless you were talking the way Chise's arm falls off and her near non-reaction to it.

  • "The infamous foot massage scene from the anime version of Death Note is either this or What Do You Mean Its Not Symbolic. "
    • Why? because they are both men? >_>
      • Narvi: I would think it's because of the whole L dying thing immediately afterwards.

J Chance: What is it with the unintentional examples cropping up again? If it's not meant to be creepy or Naked People Are Funny, the displayed character being male is _not_ enough.

"Raven's clothes tearing scene with Slade in the Teen Titans episode "Birthmark," which carried some seriously ugly overtones. A well known flash hentai artist did an H version of this scene, with the same voice acting and just new art. It works perfectly."

  • TA: Uh, any chance of a link to this redone scene? I'm really quite curious.

Nornagest:

*** That WAS fanservice for the audience it was intended for...

You might be right, but that's natter. Remove the parent if you can verify it.

** Also, both frontal and rear nudity provided by Cillian Murphy. My eyes!

I didn't think that scene was meant to be sexual at all, and you're probably not the target audience if it was.

**Disservice for you, maybe. This troper found it hot. This troper is a pedophile.

Again, you're not the target audience. And I really, really don't need to know that.

** This troper and his friends just figured that the electric shock numbed him to the point of not being able to hold it. Considering the last time we saw that happen, though, the movie was a comedy...

A Justifying Edit which doesn't even properly justify the example. And badly indented on top of that.

Say it with me: you're not the target audience.

Lots42: I wonder if that one girl from Y The Last Man counts. The one with the huge scar vertically across her face. Noticeable from fifty paces, didn't do a thing to make her any less pretty.
Uknown Troper: To whomever added that image... Congratulations. You owe me a bottle of Brain Bleach to make me forget having ever seen it. Fan Disservice, indeed.
