The original proposed name for this trope was \"Overdogs Shouldn\'t Enter\" which IMO fit better. It wasn\'t exclusively about sports, but was about competitions where one competitor had some sort of advantage that made them likely to win and thus, entering knowing this was seen as rude or unfair, even if there was no actual rule forbidding it. IIRC the main reason it was changed was because some tropers viewed \"Overdog\" as an awkward word.
