Craftsman policy (100% Industrial Zone adjacency) now military (was economic)

Was an explanation given? It seems like an odd choice, especially since the upgrade policy (100% adjacency to Industrial and Campus zones) is economic (unless they changed that too).

Patch notes.

  • Ethiopia and Gran Colombia got a slight buff in that their unique units no longer require resources.
  • Earth Goddess got cut in half to 1 Faith.
  • Arenas and Ferris Wheels got their Amenities doubled to 2.
  • Water Parks have been added to Toronto and Mexico City's regional effects range extension Suzerain bonus.
  • The Craftsman Policy Card change wasn't mentioned. EDIT: Nevermind, just saw it's change in Potato Mc Whiskey's stream.

So I'm playing with the new update. It's interesting. I'm going to need to look up the updated trait for Gilgamesh's Epic Quests to make sure my mod uses it properly.

Anyway, I'm finding that it's good to let tribes that are hanging out in inhospitable areas like ice and desert islands form city-states, since they're kind of useless to me as future city sites. I wasn't quite clear what these city-states would be like but they pick from the global pool, so if Yerevan wasn't in the game originally it could pop up later. It does create some interesting gameplay as far as acquiring their bonuses.

By far the most powerful thing, however, is purchasing units from tribes. That is honestly kind of broken. They're cheaper by about half than purchasing the same unit with gold in one of your own cities. It continues to irritate me that Barbarian Horsemen and Barbarian Horse Archers don't upgrade, though. Past the Ancient Era they're mainly good for sacrificing to the volcano gods.

Having Craftsmen move to a Military policy slot is... irritating. It crowds out some of the really good ones like Professional Army, Logistics, and the early game bonuses for scouts and fighting barbarians. The early game Economic policies are fairly weak and this makes them even weaker.

I think the game's a bit confused if you try making a map with City States already in while using the mode, I got normal barbarians my first try. Also some camps can suddenly get stuck at zero civ progress, though that might be due to reaching the city state cap too.

The Preserve makes it real easy to get Appeal early on unless you are surrounded by rainforest and the Grove building already gives you +1 Faith for Charming and +2 Faith for Breathtaking tiles. With the previous Earth Goddess added on, that's +3 and +4 respectively. Now it's +2 and +3.

Here's something I've noticed. In Barbarian Clans mode, no new barbarians spawn after the beginning of the game. This is irritating since I like to maintain a number of Recon units who run around clearing camps.

I imagine there's a limited number that depends on how many city states you have allowed currently.

Not my first choice, I would have preferred the Iroquois or another Native American civ, but it's going to make a lot of people happy so I'm okay with it. Not that I even have a horse in this race, since I only have 3.4 hours in Civ VI and last played six months ago.

But in my heart of hearts, what I really want to see from Civ is a "How Many Countries Can We Get to Ban Us?" civ pack. The Kingdom of Israel, Tibet, Armenia... maybe civs for the Kurds and Basques? But you get the idea, civs that would earn official denunciations from at least one contemporary government as an attack on them.

Damn, I only just realized that Portugal are only just now becoming a thing in this game. It feels weird, seeing as they're a series mainstay. Albeit often in DLC.

I kinda wish we could build traps in the main game too, even if the AI cheated around them. [lol]

One thing that I saw pointed out while perusing other civ fansites is that the Portugal UU seems to be a Caravel replacement with the same combat strength but greater movement and, uniquely, 2 build charges.

Also, the new map type and new wonder have given an indirect buff to the Lady of the Reeds and Marshes Pantheon.

Do floodplains stop being floodplains if a dam is built?

If you mean Civ 6, then no, they stay as flood plains. I think the reasoning is that the floods are replaced with controlled irrigation. Notably, the flood disaster will still give the surrounding tiles the normal benefit, without the drawbacks of destroying improvements.

Okay, from what I read here, the dam halves the benefit from flood disasters. They may hae changed it for balance at some point.

That was the original function of the Dam improvement. It eliminates unit and tile damage from floodplains along the river but halves tile fertility gains.
