Yeah, but the stronger the mob the more likely they'd give their spell up.

It's not as elaborate as XI's but it's still probably the most fun job in XIV right now, so I'm mostly happy with it.

You also did have to take the hit in XI to learn it, which could end up being a lot scarier with the mix of world mobs being more dangerous and XP loss on death.

First done day, got up to level 25 and about 20-ish spells before I broke off to spend the night doing my weekly busywork. I feel like people were too scared of it being different, once things get mathed out a bit better it'll be better. And don't trust a player-made guide at face value for the next few weeks.

For example, the best guide out right now says only Glide Bombs drop self destruct, and only Gogmagolem in Copperbell HM teaches Plaincracker. Bombs in Halati self-destruct, and the stone golems outside of Qarn can teach Plaincracker, and there's quite a few more alternate learn locations.

Helpful to know since on my server, we had trolls and morons that kept killing key bombs that taught certain skills so that BLU can't even progress.

Apparently the Primal spells can be learned from Hard Mode instead of Extreme, Garuda and Shiva aside.

Wonder if that means you could learn Ifrit's eruption from normal mode then.

Here's probably the best guide I've found so far, with alternate learn locations and the easiest locations as the "main" ones.

Man, I can run Tam-Tara alone but its frustrating when you have to march over and kill Cthulu and he doesn't drop Mind Blast.

At least 1000 Needles is unaffected by Mighty Guard, it makes soloing these early dungeons viable with clever use of Acorn Bomb.

I'm on Aether but I'm not online at the moment! Thanks for the offer though! I'm wondering are their any weapons we can get besides Rainmaker? Or are we stuck with it til level 50?

I think I managed a decent look on my level 1 items alone though.

I'm on the same data center and yes, you're stuck with the starter stick till 50.

All the blue mage weapons available are cosmetic only, the payoff being that intellect on armor and accessories weighs way heavier on your damage output, so you want to upgrade gear a bit more aggressively while levelling than you would on any other job, and preferably have a fully upgraded Ironworks set ready off to the side (unless you learn the skills to do the level 50 job quest right away, as their relic armor is I130, same as Augmented Ironworks)

unless you do the trick where you nuke something with a high-level job then switch over to blu before the exp is applied

then you dont need to worry about leveling gear at all :V

Okay so I've been following the story through spoilers for the major events and hadn't actually played a ton of Stormblood myself until recently cause Blue Mage brought me back and wow

You're in Ala Mhigo for like 5 minutes before Aliphnaud's like "fuck this place let's go to Japan"

I get the feeling they really didn't care at all about it given how little they seem to want to focus on it except as a plot point.

It was a good decision. Ala Mhigo is pretty boring, visually.

This song needs more love.

tbh thats my complaint with both areas is once the main plot is done, Doma's also pretty friggin boring.

I did rather enjoy the Doman reconstruction.

Blue Mage feels pretty undertuned all things considered though, also for a "Unique solo experience!" a lot of things feel gated behind group content.

Blue Mage has weak spell potency, but man does it level up your Companion Chocobo like nobody's business. I had a friend outside of my party snipe things that I got aggro on which got me from Level 1 to 38 on my alt. Remembering to get out my Chocobo at Level 17 made it go from Rank 1 to 9.

They're apparently going to nerf Chocobo experience gains on the 24th, so power level yours to 10 you can get the barding of your choice before then.

I did it the painful way way back in vanilla ARR.

I have a Rank 20 bird on Balmung, so I'm aware of the "fun" normal way. sad

Also, here's a good BLU guide. I'm at 41/49 on Balmung and I think 23/49 on Cactuar. I know I got Transfusion on the latter, at least.

Yeah, it is strange how they advertise BLU as solo content, but 80% of it requires you to bring friends for dungeons because good luck soloing those yourself. ESPECIALLY the primals.

yeah funfact: you cannot solo primals at 50

i guess the intention was to have people use the duty finder if they dont have any friends to play with

you know like mount farming

as soon as one person gets what they want they leave, even if they say otherwise

[up] Well, you don't have to worry about people ditching as soon as they get what they want, since every blue mage learns the skill if one does.

Though if you're going with the method of having a 70 help you, they people could probably dip out before the 70s can switch to their blue, which is scummy

The majority of skills seem to be in dungeons and trials, that is complete BS for a limited class.

They should have made it so if you master all skills and are level 50 then you can actually queue for these dungeons.

Even a Blue Mage specific queue would be nice.
