Plus the sisterhood and their brand of radioactive feminism are becoming more and more irrelevant as time goes by - Tats is even producing sympathetic male characters with actual flaws this year!

P.S. I'd just like to point out I really don't enjoy Tat's personal brand of "feminism".

Oh yeah, there's a lot of potential subtext, especially in the third panel with the "terror chant" but Tats has managed to make it funny with all three characters being both likeable and comprehensible.

What's with Dixie being intelligent, sexy, acting like a real person in a real, healthy seeming relationship, and giving Tex the consequences for idiocy lecture?

She's definitely not Tat's usual type of Mary Sue Friendless Sociopath or big boobied hooker fetish victim.

Instead she comes across as a normal, strong, woman

P.S. My gods, 2021 - the year when Tats created a sympathetic male and female character (shock) as a non-dysfunctional couple (more shock) and had them acting as real people too (defibrilator!) in a lunatic storyline (but nowhere near as bad as many others he's done!)

Looks like child Sam is being trotted around like a child star. But unlike 2020, they have more of a leash on him since he will age slower.

That idea was so good it needs to be repeated!

The basic idea was good (2020 working for the devil) but the execution was terrible and the storyline sunk faster than a plutonium anchor due to cardboard characterisation of the principal actor

Tats' true motivation eludes me, as much as it mostly confuses the hell out of me. But it does look like he's trying to make a point about it being an illusion that America has been renewed and rejuvenated under the new administration, criticizing the return to an earlier status-quo. He's not really wrong about that, because things will rarely if ever change overnight, but right now it's also kinda understandable if people want to take a few steps back to familiar ground before trying something new. One of the problems continues to be that Tats doesn't offer any suggestions or solutions of his own, but just keeps doubling down on his weird metaphors and symbolism.

Just a personal opinion, but while obviously both sides of the political divide have significant flaws, to be a true believer in "Bothsidesism" as Tat seems to be, I've always felt one has to be in denial that disagreements of significant matters of policy exist, and it's not merely some tribal sports rivalry.

It also helps to be somehow isolated from real world consequences, giving one the luxury of not being concerned by such matters as health care, financial security, etc, which leads me to wonder:

Does Tat posses such a single issue consciousness that everything else is trivial in comparison to suppressing trans individuals, sex workers, or couples seeking in vitro fertilization, and everything else is merely petty squabbling?

I think the answer is a resounding "yes" to this question!

And I'd like to add that it's also quite possible for intelligent people to become batshit fanatics. Tats, IMHO, is an intelligent and talented individual. But that doesn't seem to prevent him from being an Obsessive True Believer in things that many of us consider bizarre.

An example: Without naming names, there's a mathematician who has done good work in the past, especially in popularizing math. He seems to be smart and personable. But that didn't prevent him from taking up the Holy Cause of the "9/11 Truth Movement" (it was a vast government conspiracy, sheeple!) involving such things as robotic jetliners, holograms, pre-planted explosives, faked radio messages, and the abduction of airline passengers (and apparently murdering them after the event).

Absolutely true. It seems paradoxical, but some of the biggest dumbasses and whackos can very often be very intelligent and/or highly educated.

A few years ago I read about a study made on terrorism and extremism, with a focus on the social background of the people who turn to violence. The study found that a very common factor was an education within engineering, or some other field where there can be clear correct and incorrect options. Life in general can be a confusing mess and human interaction is very complex and often illogical, so a very rigid belief in order and trying to live according to binary thinking about right and wrong will lead to some manner of disappointment.

One more thing: I've noticed three recurring visual elements in Tats' works: Monarch butterflies, falling leaves, and the Ubiquitous Brick Wall. They've been in his art for a long time, and once you notice them, you'll keep seeing them. The butterflies are an obvious symbol of liberation or freedom. But what is the significance to Tats of falling leaves and brick walls? And does he expect us to get the message? Is it just a personal signature thing, like "NINA" in Al Hirschfeld's caricatures, or the hidden symbols in Dan Piraro's "Bizarro" comics? Might they even be messages or reminders to someone else? Beats me!

I think someone discussed it on here at one point that the butterfies were a reference to MK-Ultra, some kind of mind control experiment the CIA tried in the 70s. Just for kicks and giggles, I googled "MK Ultra feminism" and found this. I think I accidentally found Tatsuya's inspiriation.

I think it was someone else (was it you, maybe?) that pointed out that STOP signs are a common thing in certain situations.

I had a CRAZY thought. What if Tatsuya was so bat-shit crazy that he believed that he could affect his readers by placing subliminal messaging in his strips? What if he was crazy enough to believe that he could mind control men into not doing the things that make women appear comfortable in his comics?

I must go down this rabbit hole. This must be explored.

That's on the same level of bizarritude as the stuff the mathematician I mentioned bought into. It wouldn't be out of the question for Tats to believe some of this stuff. I really hope he doesn't, but the jury is still out on that question.
