Probably the best new dramedy of 2022, The Bear is currently in its second season, enjoying critical praise for both. Ostensibly a workplace comedy but with themes about grief, found family, the damage and rewards inherent in the pursuit for perfection, and mental illness, the show is largely a character piece with a fairly simple plot. Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto is a young and highly successful chef from the world of fine dining who takes over his brother's greasy spoon sandwich shop in Chicago following his brother's suicide. Once there, his desire to fix the restaurant clashes with the people who have worked there for years (in some cases, decades), partly out of fear of change, and partly because they were, in some ways, closer to the deceased Berzatto brother than Carmy was.

The show is shot and edited very well in a slick yet unobtrusive style that shows its work, as anyone who has worked in kitchens will tell you there is a level of simmering (a-ha) anger for the overworked staff. About the only criticism I could make of the first season, having not finished the second yet, is that there is almost too much character development, if such a thing is possible.

Has a work page here ''The Bear (2022)'.

Season 3 premieres June 27th.

Kinda surprised that this thread hasn't gained much traction.
