Crimson Revival (Interest Check+sign up)

Twenty years, thats the amount of time that has passed since the entire world as humanity knew it came to a screeching halt. It began one day in winter when above a highly populated city a young woman was found floating on a broomstick. With a flick of her fingers she reduced the city to flaming rubble, instantly killing nine million people. Around the world more women appeared with the same level of devastating power, bringing ruin and destruction such that the loss of life became nearly immeasurable within a few hours. All attempts by military force to suppress these beings was met by further loss of life and equipment. Within a month the leaders of most nations accepted the absolute domination of said beings, now commonly known as 'Witches'. Those nations that didn't instantly submit were met by devastation either by the Witches themselves or by nations who had surrendered themselves to the Witches in order to obtain survival. Within half a year there was no active large scale power in the world that was attempting to do anything but survive under their control.

Which is of course where we come in. Our organization is known as Counterbalance, our single operating goal is the assassination of every Witch currently alive. Of course given the vast defensive and offensive abilities most Witches have make it theoretically impossible for a normal human to effectively combat a Witch even in their sleep. However the Witches own abilities have delivered to us our greatest weapon. In order to increase their power witches will at times take on Familiars by infusing an animal or object with their blood, allowing them to awaken to special abilities. Humans who go through this process become living weapons for a Witch, but a rare genetic trait only found in an extremely select number of humans make them a bottomless well for the energy that runs through a Witches blood (Ether).

When a Witch attempts to feed their blood to a human with this genetic trait they will draw in the totality of an individual witch's Ether and the 'core' that allows them to perform magic, becoming an existence partway between a witch and a human. These special individuals are known as Crimsons, gaining access to a portion of a witches power. However in order to use this power they must sacrifice their own blood, and without feeding from a witch they will eventually collapse as their body decays into nothingness.

Complicating this is the fact that a Crimson is rarely born capable of defeating a witch on their own, being much more limited in scale to even the weakest witch and a target by all witches and those who support them. However Counterbalance gives them the opportunity to continue survival by choosing targets and creating scenarios to allow them to hunt.

Crimson Revival will be an RP focused on the characters fighting against enemies far beyond their own level, requiring them to use a narrow set of abilities to fight against individual enemies that would crush them by themselves. This RP will involve your characters always being on the backfoot, allowing a possibility of failure. Not every mission will work out, and if your characters try to fight it out then they might die. Its a story of assassins, not soldiers.

Your Blood Art should be limited to a single ability but can be used in multiple ways. Someone who can summon fire might be able to craft it into walls and weapons, but won't be able to summon water. Someone that can craft tiny knife wielding dolls can organize them in new ways, but won't be summoning spiders.)
• Anemia Limit: (This is the 'death or glory' attack that your character can use when everything else has failed, where putting their life on the line isn't a risk but the only solution to the issue. Upon activation they tap into the core of their power, the energy of the witch that originally gave them their power. Someone whose power is to summon flames can create infernos at a thought. Summon massive versions or massive numbers of their familiars. However this starts the countdown clock to their death, if they don't drink from a witch within ten minutes they will die.)

If I have questions about the background of this RP, should I DM you, or ask them in this thread?

1) Are Witches of completely unknown origin, or do we know where they come from? 2) Around how many Witches are currently alive? 3) Do we know what the Witches want, and what do they do with the nations under their control?

I'll definitely sign up for this once I get a good character idea, and this background information might help with that.

1) There are plenty of theories, and most Witches say they've always been around if asked. But humanity doesn't have a definitive answer.

2) The known total of witches was around 700. At the time of the RP there are 650 confirmed witches.

3) It varies, some enforce their own perfect kingdom, others let people govern themselves but demand tribute. Most witches remain independent from others when it comes to territory.

All right, I don't want to let you down, but so far, I haven't been able to think of a good character and it's likely I won't submit an application for this (I still could, but it's more likely I won't, so please don't like have the expectation that I will).
