Episode 8 was spectacular, but episode 9 made me fall in love with Ishtar more than I can handle. It's like scientists cracked the code to creating the perfect tsundere.
"Can that girl's personality take over? The answer is no."
…Suuuuure, after that night scene I'm gonna believe that…
Nasu has perfected the art of the Tsundere since way back in Kara no Kyoukai.
It doesn't matter who you are or what you think of his works, that simply cannot be denied.
x2 Edit: I'm surprised you're still surprised when that happens.

I'm actually a little glad that they went with more of a second long glamour failure rather than just having Ishtar outright transform into Ereshkigal for the entire fireside conversation, which is what happens in the game and she doesn't seem to realize it. This way makes more sense but still gets the point across.
I did not know what I expected from this episode, but gut busting laughter was definitely not it LOL. Also they should have kept Ritsuka this bloody hilarious all through the anime, what kind of fucking compliment was that????? That whole fever dream werejaguar scene with Taiga makes me more salty that they cut the spriggan scene.
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysThe Jaguar Warrior gags were much more on-point now that it didn't have the weird dissonance of human sacrifices and the Werejaguars being there for only a scant few seconds was hilarious.
Kawasaki gave Quetzalcoatl the best theme bless him. The character herself had a very good first impression.
Yeah despite the fact this was a lot more transitional than the last episode I thought there were a lot more highlights. Ritsuka's speech to Jaguar Warrior and trying to grapple with Quetzalcoatl in person and in the abstract were good.
Asakawa's acting is making me warm to Ana a lot more.
I thought the Ereshkigal buildup was too unsubtle, but I think this episode made me come more around to what they're going with.
It's Quezt time now, let's get the Obligatory Joke out of the way.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Harem Protagonist EX is now official guys, woohoo!
And Mash giving the sweetest forced smile that clearly says "this one's mine, bitch, hands to yourself" was just great.
In fact this whole episode was comedy gold, and Quetz appearance has reminded me of why she's Best Girl after she hadn't shown up in the game in... fuck, almost a year.
I love how they just ignored Jaguar Warrior like three times before she finally got their attention.
And then Ishtar shot her XD
I hereby declare Ritsuka an honorary Habsburg for his ability to use diplomacy over martial skill. He's technically a Karling though.
He'd better not be a Karling, otherwise I'd have to try and kill him.
How is Ritsuka a Karling, isn't he Japanese?
Or are you just making a joke about him and Charlemagne having similar looks?
Edited by DarkHunter on Dec 7th 2019 at 12:35:53 PM
Yeah, I'll kill Guda too if he's a Karling. I need those bloodlines and Carl really makes it difficult by making the last Merovingi a monk.
Are these supposed to be Crusader King jokes?
I dunno. Would you be interested to join our plot for 15 gold?
Considering that Identical Grandson is a thing in fiction, it's fair to say that Ritsuka is the token Karling in Chaldea.
Edit:
Yep, let's just say that Charlie and his descendants don't have a nice reputation in Crusader Kings.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Identical Grandson trope would come across awkwardly since Ritsuka and Charlemagne are, you know, from two different races. They may make some joke about similar designs, but I wouldn't expect anything halfway serious.
@ Muffins And I'd love to gloat about how I called you a peasent so smoothly, it flew over everyone's heads.
If we want to go into more detail, Ritsuka’s design borrows a lot from Rin Tohsaka’s, and the latter is explicitly stated to have European ancestry through her father Tokiomi.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.That would be so much narm if your theory turns out to be true.
Then again, Charlemagne is also related to practically all of Europe, so it’s not as farfetched. Just state that one of his parents was from Europe and there you have it.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Why don't Waver or Kayneth look like Charlemagne?
Kayneth does look like Fionn though.
Edit:
On an unrelated note, since Gilgamesh gave Ritsuka 30% of his gems to get Ishtar on his side and he only used 25%, I wonder if he kept the remaining 5% for himself.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Fine, keep your hypothesis if it's so precious to you! But keep in mind this wisdom of Confucius - Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment! You may see it come to pass.
A summary of an interview with Yusuke Kawakami, one of the animators working on the show.
I thought it was pretty interesting so sharing with the thread.
@Nouct
More like they wanted to emulate the other side of the Pacific on the VA thing.
Edit:
But of course, this becomes a page-topper.
