The Chosen Wannabe requires there to be an actual The Chosen One that the character is envious of and wants to replace them. This does not require them to assume the mantle.
The Unchosen One is the character is not chose but chooses to assume the mantle anyway. This does not require there to be an actual The Chosen One.
Yes, there can be overlap, but tropes having the possibility of overlap does not make them the same.

This trope feels like an overly specific version of The Unchosen One. Both tropes deal with characters who weren't chosen by The Call, but the former doesn't seem to do much to distinguish itself from the latter.
The main point that The Chosen Wannabe uses to separate itself is, "Compare and Contrast The Unchosen One (which is a character not chosen but takes and earns the mantle anyway), Unfit for Greatness (character is given a status but blows it)."
However, The Unchosen One already takes into account characters who weren't chosen by the call, and stay that way. It only notes that several authors can't help making them "chosen after all". It also makes no note of Chosen Wannabe's existence.
I suppose the TLDR version is suggesting that CW gets merged into TUO.
