OK, so I already said this on the page's discussion, but I don't think I could say it any better here than I said it there, so I'm going to c/p my comment on that page.

"This trope needs some serious, serious revision. First of all, the name- "straight gay" is really harmful in its implication, because the name is linking an oppressed group to their oppressors as a criticism of their adherence or subversion of pre-existing notions based on caricatured and dehumanizing portrayals of a considerable portion of the population. It's reductive of the character's identity as a gay person by saying they're only "kinda gay", and stating that femininity is the norm for gay people, which is skeevy as hell and is reinforcing archaic and harmful concepts of feminine and masculine behavior, as well as being a slap in the face for gay people who choose to express themselves in an individual way that doesn't match pre-conceived societal notions. And a lot of gay people adopting heteronormative behaviors are doing so out of fear of being rejected due to their identity, as though acting like a "camp gay" is something to be rejected and dreaded, which is suuuuuch a heaping spoonful of internalized homophobia. TL;DR - this trope is super duper gross and really harmful in its implications. It needs to be re-named, and either redefined or, better yet, scrapped entirely.

(And before you try to explain to me about "the homosexuals", keep in mind that you're speaking to one, so save yourself a bit of embarrassment there.)"

Other people have complained about this before, but for once, the TRS is under limit, so I'm throwing it in now. I think Camp Gay and the other pages that are similar to this one could also stand a little bit of re-evaluation, but that's something to unpack another day. If we want to have a page that comprehensively catalogs gay characters, which is basically all that this page and Camp Gay are used for anymore, I feel like there's a much, MUCH better way we could do that.

Even if a time machine was invented, and man discovered how to live forever, not a single thing would become more convenient.

You seem to be missing the point that tropes are not stating how things should be, but rather describing how things are. The stereotypes associated with Straight Gay, Camp Gay, and so on, exist within media, and so we are documenting that fact. Tropes Are Tools.

We aren't here to tell people how to think. Rejecting this topic.
