It is a warm day in Spring and the skies above Bastion are almost completely clear, the bright blue of the sky overhead marred only slightly here and there by swatches of lazily drifting white. Several miles outside of the Capital is an Airship Dock, which typically takes passengers to and from the many locales of Glamaria. On this day, however, regular flights have been cancelled in favor of something quite momentous - the first flight of the Needle Fleets "Piercer" class of ships, which is hoped to open new channels not only across the whole of Ma'Rntal, but hopefully across the entirety of existence as it is known. For you see, these ships will not only use the Essence provided by the Silver Thread to fly, but also to enter into that very realm itself.

It is not to say that travel between Ma'Rntal and Ra'Rntal are impossible, of course - mages have been doing it for centuries. But today marks the first time when such a feat becomes not only viable for anyone, but affordable as well. At least that is what the captain of the Fleet, a human by the name of Gideon Wainwright with blonde hair that runs down to his shoulders in careless, fluffy curls, dark blue eyes that could cut through steel beams, and a hawk-like face poised in an almost constant sly smirk. As if he knows something you don't, about everything. This particular gentleman stands at the helm of one of his new Piercer model ships, "Extravaganza," talking with several sailors, a few mages from the Arcane University, and a couple of Codex Knights. They all have been hired on to make sure this virgin flight goes smoothly and as painlessly as possible. Little to no bloodshed, as the good captain might put it.

The rest of the dock is filled with onlookers, looking up at the set of ships and the strange mechanical odds and ends one would not normally find on an airship. Each of these machines seems to be welded and bolted to the bottoms and sides of the floating ships, and give off the tell-tale glow of working Essence Crystals and a constant whir as they seemingly prepare for whatever duty they are to be put to. In particular, the Extravaganza has a short line of passengers being checked in to the ship. As the first of you step forward, the tired looking sailor positioned here flips through his clipboard.

"Name?"

Airship Dock

One of said onlookers, leaning upon a railing was what appears to be but a boy. His hands leasurly rested upon the railing, grasping both it and across following the railing his wooden stave, large for the fledgling mage but small for most others.

To onlookers the boy with overgrown earthy brown hair was staring out at the strange contraptions attached to these ships, his mind abuzz with curiosities of how it work with a glee that only a child (or man-child), or a really big fan of airships could have.

He adjusted the buttons on his cloak, a large red one, gold trimmed that he was wearing atop the rest of his attire, though the soft hood of the boys jacket fell back behind his head and neck atop it. The cloak was large, making the boy seem bigger than he was, though to everyone observing it was clearly not the boys true and small size, a attempt at seeming bigger that merely failed, the cloak did conceal the satchel that rested on his back as well as another personal belonging.

After taking some time, and realizing it was enfact time. He muttered lightly as he looked out for a last few moments. "Time to go huh? Well hope you too are ready for this. It oughta be fun." It was almost like he was speaking to someone else besides him but nobody was there.

With that he turns pushing away from the railing as headed towards the ship, a short but quick stride from his short legs bearing his black jeans and bright sneakers that extend from his cloak.

Once he'd approached, light illuminating the young individuals freckled face he gives a friendly look, a smile to the clipboard wielding sailor and with a glint in each of his multi-hued eyes from outside light he responded. "It's Theodore, Theodore Parshill sir!" An enthusiastic response to say the least.

A gray skinned elf with white hair reclines against the rail, muscular arms crossed across his chest, a simple bow resting at his side. He gives the sailor a slight but charming smile, which he then turns toward his fellow passengers, "Corvus Corax."

In the midst of the hopefuls awaiting to get passage aboard the Extravaganza for its premier flight, tall figure drapped in a hooded cloak colored dark shade of maroon lingered near the railings, seemingly to be more interested in the view on the horizon than the magitechnological marvel before him.

He could understand this was an important day for...those who it was important to and for those wanting to be a part of history. However, this wasn't so for Toraq. All the young beastkin hoped and cared for was that this ship could take him as far away from here as it could, the destination didn't matter. Just as long as he could stop running.

As he steps up towards the person handling admittance, at the request of his name, he's contemplative for a moment, the only sign of it being his mouth becoming a concerned frown. "...My name...it...Toraq..." He answers in what might sound like a slight accent to some, trailing off and wondering if his lack of a second name would be a problem.

Airship Docks
Ašida flicked an errant bit of hair behind her ear, slinging her rifle in its strap over her shoulder and approaching the line to get on the ship. The light-blue skinned Yveri almost floated over to the airship, her coat fluttering in a very localized wind. She gave a slight bow to the crewman. "Ašida iž-Rasadi." She stood back up, readjusting the gun on her shoulder.

Richard looks out to the landscape as he waits at the line. He eventually walks in front of the captain. "Richard O Bradain." He says with a quiet but firm voice.

Araton looked at the ship, smiling. A few minutes later, he walked towards the Captain, his staff thumping against the ground.

"Theodor Horizon watcher. Would like to board, Sir.", he said in a firm voice.

Airship Dock

As the sailor thumbs through his clipboard he makes a few notes and eyes the kid for a moment.

"You must be with the Arcane University, then? Weird at...nevermind. Guess age doesn't really matter if you can sling spells. Head on in."

As Corvus steps forward, he gets a glance but not much else before the sailor is flipping through his sheets and making another few marks.

"Says here you bought a ticket in advance. Good thing, too. Everyone wants on this first flight...anyway, you're good. Head on in."

"No surname? Hmmm...." says the sailor as Toraq approaches, only to be rid of suspicion when a hand claps on his shoulder. He turns to see a lean man standing behind him with sharp features no doubt accented by the red scales reaching up his neck. His eyes are amber colored and slitted, and his black hair, while still hair, seems to curve back like black spines. He wears a black leather jacket and nothing else beneath it, and, oddly, a pair of gi pants and wraps around both his clawed feet and clawed hands, both of which have similar red scales. A small tendril of smoke pours from his mouth when he exhales.

"This one's with me," he says, voice much deeper than his build would suggest it to be. The sailor, meanwhile, has a moment a panic flicker across his features before it is replaced with a professional calm.

"As you say, sir," he says, before turning to face Toraq once more, "Guess you're good. Head on in."

The scaled man, meanwhile, gestures with a small smile and a motion of his hand for Toraq to follow him past.

When Ašida approaches the sailor, he gives a wave of recognition.

"Ah, we've been expecting one of your clan, ma'am. Head on up, the Captain will probably want to speak with you."

The sailor gives Richard a once over and, given his looks and what just transpired a few moments before, nods and makes a mark or two on a sheet in his clipboard.

"You must be one of Red's too, then. Go on," he says, and moves on to the next passenger.

When Araton speaks, the sailor raises a brow. He flips through his pages for a few moments and eventually comes up...empty.

"Hmm...tell you what," he says looking past the dwarf at his now empty line, "doesn't say here that you've purchased a ticket but it's been a long day and frankly the Captain doesn't really care about all that anyway. Head on up."

As the last of the passengers get settled (most have gone to find rooms and seats below deck for their own sakes, while many others want to watch the takeoff, Captain Gideon leans heavily against the railing next to the console that would serve as the control station for the ship. Those he had been speaking with before have gone off, and now he just watches and waits until everything is ready for takeoff. Shouldn't be long now.

Airship - Open deck

The boy simply gives a strong nod in response to the clipboard wielding sailor, making a simpe motion in presentation with his stave to verify the point as well as not so subtly making his mage's cloak glimmer in the light also illuminating the lads face.

Point made a second more of a smile and with a cheery tone. "Thank you sir." In polite response as he continues with his quick but short gate onto the deck of the ship, taking just enough steps to move away from the entry zone to not cause problems, a look of glee on his face. The boy muttering to himself again like in conversation. "Told you i'd get aboard. This is gonna be soooo fun!"

With that a brief moment of pause and a change of expression. "Nah nobody'll notice." He seemingly replies to the nothing before starting to walk again with his same excited gate towards the front of the ship finding a spot along the railing that the lad can lean upon, to watch out for the take off. The boy allowing his stave to rest besides him on the rail as well running up under his arm so it doesn't fall over.

Airship
Ašida nodded, and boarded the ship. She took a few moments to savor the open sky. How similar, in many ways, and yet so very different. Well, the ground, for one. She looked around for the captain. He was next to the bridge, leaning against a railing. She made her way over, and leaned on the railing, looking out from the ship. "Captain... Wainwright, was it? The dock officer said you might wish to speak to me."

The momentary look of concern on Toraq's face masked by his hood quickly turns to one of surprise as the draconic man steps in and more or less secures his passage. He gives a quick nod to the guard, turning to follow the draconic man on board.

As they go, Toraq lowers his hood, revealing his now smiling face. "Ah...thank you very much. I afraid I was to be sent away..."

Araton walked aboard, his gaze resting on the boy for a while. "Strange, he reminds me of my first year. Well, no use confronting him right now.", he muttered to himself before searching for a spot near the railing.

"I should make myself comfortable for the moment. It has been a long 5 years."

Corvus nods to the crewman, "Thank you, sir." He smirks as he picks up a bit of what the young mage is saying, but moves on, taking a seat by Richard. He crosses one leg over the other and watches Tor talk with the dragonkin, "O'Bradain, was it? From around these parts?"

The Extravaganza

While most of the sailors and passengers pay the odd child that is Theodor no mind, he should nevertheless feel something...off. Like there are eyes on him for the briefest of moments, and a cold rush of air that passes by within seconds. If he looks, he will find nothing really out of the unusual.

Captain Wainwright makes a brief noise of recognition before flashing a winning smile and reaching out to shake the Yveri's hand.

"Ah, the daughter herself, that's not what I expected. As you should know your family was instrumental in getting the crystals for these new ships, so I was hoping at least one of you would arrive." Then, he gets a contemplative look on his face as he looks Ašida up and down for a moment. He snaps out of it quickly.

"Anyway, I merely wished to give you the honor of putting us truly airborn, as way of thanks for your contribution to the cause."

The Reptilian, Red it seems he has been called, nods to Richard as he passes and watches him for a moment before turning back to Toraq.

"No issue, friend. Our people have to keep together." Then, more seriously, "It's obvious you were a Pet at one point, keep your eyes open." He walks toward the below deck area, which extends under the main deck, and he gives a nod to Toraq as he goes. Whether he follows is his own choice.

Araton might feel a small, familiar twinge and a chill in the air before a monotone voice rings out nearby.

"Araton, right? I've never had the pleasure, but the dossier says you're the guy. You have something for me?" If Araton looks to his left, he will notice a man dressed in what can only be called business casual, with his arms resting on the railing. There is an odd quality about him, like he's there but not all at once, and it may take a minute to truly determine whether he exists at all. Anyone who passes by acts like he doesn't, anyway.

As Richard takes his seat and Corvus greets him, a young elfen woman steps up with a wide smile and offers a few amenities - drinks, pillows, etc.

"Your presence explains why I was so adamant in coming here.", Araton qietly said to the man. "I assume you are familiar with my case? Because it really is a bit of a chore. Still, the merits are great."

He absent-mindedly tugged on his blue robe. "Some guy calling himself the Winter Scholar or something. Apparently really liked Snowstorms.", he clarified in a low voice, closer to a mumble than really talking. Someone who would observe him closely and knew what they should look for, would notice that his teeth and eyes glow faintly, reminiscent of a graveyard. "As always, just a simple handshake should suffice?"

The Extravagance
Ašida nodded, looking back towards the control console. "My father would like me to relay that he's very sorry he couldn't be here himself. Of course, he's absolutely certain that if he took a vacation, everything he's done would go down in flames." She shook her head, muttering something under her breath in Yveri. "Well. I would be honored to cast off. Just, well, tell me how." She gave a slight laugh. "And when, I suppose."

As Red mentions the word "Pet", beneath his cape, Toraq's hand unconsciously moves to the brand hidden beneath his clothing. He knew it wasn't visible, but being reminded of the reality of his existence up until now...it wasn't the best feeling.

When he starts to head below deck, he waits for a moment, contemplating following after him. Seeing as he has nothing better to do...and someone who can already understand him more than anyone at present, he gives a subtle nod before following Red down.

The Extravagance - Open Deck

"Yeah.. I did." The boy pulls his cloak around him tighter at the breeze, not looking around though, just keeping a look over the edge of the deck as he had been waiting for take off.

A nervous tapping of his left foot did start though, a twitch of the leg. Sighing deeply. Just stay still and quiet for me. Please. He muttered out into nothingness again, seemingly rather worried by the feeling though. Yet he tried not to visibly respond, just continuing to try and look like he's daydreaming.

The Extravaganza

"If that's how it works," the man says, turning with a slow motion and lifting his arm to perform the shake, though the hand offered seems barely able to straighten itself out.

Gideon smirks and points over to the console, which is a mess of levers, buttons, and gauges, all giving off various readouts that would boggle the mind of anyone who didn't know what they were doing. Above all these is a classic rudder wheel made of polished wood, easily within reach.

"Well, your father is a busy man, of course," he says, and quickly points out a series of levers, "To start us out, just hit those three to start up the engines for the propellers, then that one to activate the Wind Stone. That'll get us airborne, and I'll take it from there."

The stewardess leaves Corvus and Richard to their conversation with polite smile and moves on. Some of the other passengers who have taken seats take some glances at the two of them (including an older Elfen woman, who narrows her eyes but says nothing as she passes).

Meanwhile, Red moves down through the regular seating and deeper into the ship, where there are full-fledged rooms for those passengers who have a little more swagger in their step (or perhaps a little more sway in their coin-purse). He stops in front of one door and starts digging in his pocket for something.

"What do you speak? Ancient? Dwarven?" Red says as he works, eventually producing a key. At "Ancient" he speaks in Ancient Glamarian, and at "Dwarven" he speaks Dwarven Glamarian, and he eyes Toraq with a serious expression.

"Excuse me, are you...a mage? You look a little young," comes a voice for Theodor, and when he turns he might see a teenaged woman with a Mage's Cloak of her own. She seems genuinely concerned for such a seemingly young person all alone, and looks down on him with dark brown eyes and waves a strand of frazzled light brown hair from her face.

The Extravagance, bridge
Ašida nodded, brushing a loose tuft of hair back behind her ear, muttering, "That's one way to put it..." She flipped the indicated levers in the indicated order, before throwing the switch to start the Wind Stone. She stepped back as (presumably) the crystal started humming or whatever it did when activated, pushing her goggles, annoyingly slipping down, back up onto her forehead where they belong when not in use. Cor looks impressed, "Transmutation and counter-spelling, pretty advanced stuff. What are you hoping to do once you're out of school?"

As the elf passes, he adapts a lounging posture and makes an exaggerated elfish gesture mockingly asking if she sees anything she likes, mumbling in Dwarvish, "That's right, keep walking, you old prude."
