Someone in the comment there told me to thin my paints more. The thing is - I do that. I thin my paints to ensure I won't cover up any of the details or create an abomination.

Personally I never thin my paints (unless I am trying to get more out of a pot or they are starting to dry out), but thats just me.

Your overlord looks good.

I've recently managed to get slightly ahead with my various miniature projects, including making some more scatter-terrain. I've made some more trees and a picture-stone from styrofoam. I also finally managed to paint one of the minis from my D&D board-games, an Otyugh.

[up]They look great, especially the trees. [awesome]

I once tried to make a hedge out of a scouring pad. It didn't look good.

Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with yarn and rope. A scouring pad seems like it would make for a simple hedge, but it could also be cut into a hedge sculpture. A thin felt pad could be used for a grass-covered piece of scatter terrain.

[up]I got the idea from the old How To Make Wargames Terrain book (the red one, not the blue one) but it never looked as good as the one in the book. My painting skills weren't great at the time (this was 20+ years ago). I don't really do scenery these days as I don't play at home.

I used to get my terrain-crafting tips through a Warhammer Annual that I have 2002, as well as White Dwarfs, back when they had more content about building your own terrain. My dad also had books on building miniature terrain for model railroads. These days we are living in a golden age of tabletop crafting, with all the wonderful online tutorials available, but books still have their own charm.

EDIT: I just googled that book and found it as a PDF-scan. grin

So a friend learned that i paint minis and had asked me if i would be willing to paint some minis for a Boardgame (Descent) for them. There were much more minis than i expected, but i suck at saying no. In total it was 4-5 of each mook monster 2 of each boss monster and 8 individual Heroes. And here all of them together

Things i have learned: 1) painting fire is surprisingly not that hard and a great effect 2) the quality of the minis severly impacts how much fun they are to paint.

[up]Nice work! I'm particularly impressed with the clothes for the heroes. [tup]

I have that same board-game at home. I was a bit disappointed when I found out how small some of the minis are, because I had hoped that they would be compatible in scale with my Rune Wars figs from the same setting and manufacturer. But there is still plenty of use with the mminiatures, even though the heroes will most likely be used as statues for a temple I plan to craft at some point.

I was finally able to get some pictures of a couple of my most recently finished things the other day, so here is my Death Guard Plague Surgeon.

Nice! I really like the corroded and rusty machinery on him, while that shade of green makes him look like a parody of a Dark Angel. Something about this miniature also makes me want to see it in a Necromunda-style setting.

[up][up]I second Maras opinion the weather metal looks dope as hell[tup]

I have recently tried my hand at kitbashing and went from this pit devil to an interpretation of a Spirit of Durthu. Still want to do the base, but not sure exactly what i want to do there.

Bonus:the poor demon and the unprimed version

He does have a more industrial look than other Death Guard models.

[up]I do love the dose you have given the Spirit of Durthu.[awesome]

[up][up]I like your take on the Spirit of Durthu. The purple skin-tone on his torso and what appears to be pants reminds me of Night Elf Demon Hunters from Warcraft. At the same time the branches on his head make me think of some images I've seen of Cernunnos. Either way, he's cool. For the base I'd try to make either roots or thorny vines stick up from the ground, ready to attack his foes.

Double-post: I crafted and painted this piece of terrain for the TCG Guild Build challenge in June. The theme this time was "floating terrain", so I felt like building something based on Outland in Warcraft III. This was also the first time I tried painting with pigment powder, which was a lot of fun.

Thanks! I recommend trying the powder, which you can easily scrape off chalk crayons.

Here are two Iron Warriors Legionaires I painted: https://imgur.com/gallery/EBIx3sY
It was my first attempt with them. I know I have a long way to go. But, I want to improve. I was wondering if I should pick different paint for armor trims. Should I use Retributor Armor and put Agrax on it, or go for Snakebite Leather?

I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...

I don't usually much care for the aesthetics of the Iron Warriors, but I do like the result of adding dull antique-looking brass highlights on the armour. It gives them a sense of realness, like a very good reproduction of Roman Legionnaire gear, with the beginnings of patina to show the age. That is why I would not change the trim at all. But I would try to make the leather strap stick out a bit from the gun holster, by painting the strap a slightly lighter shade of brown, maybe with a tiny bit of Bleached Bone mixed in.

What are your oppinions regarding square vs round bases? I just finished painting my first square base mini (the ratqueen) and i must say i really like the efficiency for storing (also said ratqueen dissolves into 4 ratswarms uppon hitting 0HP so it is really cool to have those swarms occupy exactly the same space as the quenn previously did).

I am honestly considering rebasing my Wargaming models with squares just for the functionality.

I don't really have any strong opinions, but square bases have lots of practical functions for wargaming and storage. While round bases are the norm for RPGs, I don't see any problem with using square bases for all types of tabletop games.

Got my hands on a bit of basing grass and tried it with my newly built Treelord. Also decided to update my Spirit of Durthu a bit (more contrast, different mask, better base)

[up] Beautiful work! That Treelord and Spirit of Durthu look amazing!

Forgive me for asking, but can I ask here for advice, but I've been looking for a paint that could help me eventually with Stormcast Prosecutor wings. I don't want to use Guilliman Blue, like in Duncan's guide. Could I paint the wings with Celestra Grey, then delicately use Aethermatic Blue on them to get that nice glowy blue-ish color on them?

I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...
