I don't get it. I chose my servants here, but I can't move them for some reason.

edit: Never mind. Figured it out.

[up] EDIT: you need to press the button in the corner to actually initiate battle.

Actually serious and very hasty Grail Front explanation, may be missing some vital pointers and explain some stuff badly so cmiiw

General/map gameplay:

  • This is a grid-based battle, where you and the enemy start at opposite ends of the map on those square tiles (see Shlugo's linked video for visual example) and make your way to the other end to engage the enemy. The goal is to either kill all Servants or eliminate the enemy Master.
  • You are given a number of class-restricted slots per battle, ie. the first one lets you only field one Rider, one Saber, and one Berserker.
  • Total Servant cost that you can field is at a hard cap of 46 for this one (though it'll probably change with subsequent battles)
  • Ritsuka is also on the battlefield in a purely support option, their only offensive action is to attack the enemy Master, otherwise they have no means of defense against enemy Servants.
  • You have a hard cap of 25 points for actions, you can use 5 points to move someone across into the next space, 10 points to swap spaces with an ally, or 10 points to attack a Servant or Master.
  • Servants also have their own special counter that caps at 3 dictating how many actions they can take per turn, so you can't just spend all 25 points to move your strongest dude across the map.

Battle gameplay:

  • Servants involved in battle is determined by whether ally or enemy Servants are adjacent to the ones engaging in battle, it counts if they have the Servant surrounded even on spaces that aren't directly connected to each other (link for visual example because I don't think that wording is good)
  • Battles are 1-turn only for each side, enemy Servants will use three separate attacks because you get three separate attacks so
  • UNLIKE NORMAL GAMEPLAY, critical stars carry over from end of battle where they are distributed to each Servant that participated in that battle as evenly as possible to carry into the next battle, these will appear at start of turn from then on.
  • Debuffs and buffs will also carry through after the initial battle until the requisite number of turns in battle have passed for them to expire. Also if the Servant has a stun-type debuff at end of battle, they cannot move for the duration of your turn.
  • Unlike normal gameplay, Mystic Codes had their skill turn cooldown chopped in half so they could actually feasibly be used multiple times.
  • All Servants have one Break Bar each and will not suffer permadeath until that break bar is broken (dunno how this interacts with Guts if that's used to revive from 0 before the bar's "broken" for the player's side because haven't tested that yet). HP values appear to be the same for both bars so still stacked in the enemy's favor oh well.
  • Masters don't have an HP bar, they have three HP points, and if those run out, they dead.

Low points cap and forced class choices. Really enjoying being forced to stare at my pool of "riders I don't touch because they've never been useful to me on JP".

The low cap means your picking 3 5*s makes you unable to use C Es. If you don't have any decent Riders, you're better off filling just the Saber and Berserker slots with 5* with C Es and leaving the Rider slot empty.

Oh, that's what I did, it's still irritating. For the longest time I had basically no SR or SSR Rider on JP because they kept dodging me.

My tactic became the completely apathetic "throw Kintoki at everything". Next round I'll use a better CE for it, I guess.

Really hoping there's more free choice in the later rounds because I seem to be a magnet for extra classes.

You still don’t use Ushi, George, or even Blackbeard?

Pretty much as soon as I started seriously trying to clear JP, I got an NP5 Alterego, or defaulted to using Zerkerlot for wave clearing. This is the first time I've really needed a Rider, and it doesn't feel like Ozy or Europa are the most suitable for this setup. Not sure about Ryouma either.

Well, not needed. As I said, Kintoki cleared everything.

Not sure how the turn timer for skills counts down, though. I think it's every on-map turn? Ditto for buffs. Attacking twice in one turn if possible is preferable then.

That sounds like a seriously overly complicated and annoying set of mechanics for the event.

I just want to not be denied use of all these. Sure, they aren't ideal, but at least I levelled them. Well, some of them. I only just got Jeanne in the summer event so I was planning to do that in this one.

It's not that complicated in practice. Move around the board, attack the thing in your way, track down the enemy boss. Did it first try with just Herk/Nero did not actually trigger Guts or even lose a single break bar.

Shoot. I don't think this Tomoe/Shiki strategy is enough for the final node with full drop bonus. At least not automated. If I throw the SR Sakura CE on Castoria it should work though.

Yeah, but this one had a recommended level of 60. We have another half a dozen to go. I expect the later ones to both be more time consuming and more annoying to set up.

I guess the trick is to bait them into a situation where you can do two attacks in one turn. Easy win that way.

There we go. Automated 90+. Unfortunately since the support system is bugged again the drop bonus isn't great. It'll get better as I finish some of the currency though since I rolled a little for drop CEs.

Is 90+ even worth it? Mixed drops of all sorts of things and an annoying wave layout.

Of course I get a lotto CE drop on JP when I'm just making sure to clear all the nodes once and not start farming. This had better not turn into another Summer 4 where I had like 10 Suzuka CE's by the end of the first run for no apparent reason.

Raineh: Well, I think there's typically like 16 lottery drops along with a fair amount of currency. How many does the 90 node drop? I haven't done it yet. I just figured I'd go for a high lottery area that also let me slowly clear the shop.

^ Oh you poor baby, you managed to get a CE drop. Well, I just did too. I hope this is an event where I get like a billion CE drops.

Won't be worth LBing for awhile though. I really hope the last pure lottery area is Casters.

I mean I'm just comparing it with NA, which seems to never give me CE drops. JP? "Here have plenty of randomly dropped CE's past the point the damn things are useful." And my inventory is always nearly full. It's weird.

Anyway, drops are something like this.

Don't think I'd have the CE's or right Servants to do the 90+ node, though.
