You know, seeing as two of the Archangels are dead now, and Ludociel is probably not long for this world, and Escanor seems to be ready to give up his grace to save Merlin. What if Mael absorbs all four graces in order to match Demon King Meliodas power?
Maybe Meliodas will use them like that too.

Well, now Mael's in full gear. Supposed to have been Meliodas' match back in the Holy war. Looking dire for the villains unless evil Meliodas wakes up soon. The Sinner was a tad unimpressive in his showing, but there's a good explanation at least.

Does there need to be a reason? Mael lost Sunshine when he became Estarossa, it wandered around for the better part of 3000 years, latched on to a little kid that was compatible with it.
Ditto for how Meliodas and Elizabeth fell in love, it's not really something that needs much elaboration.

I assumed that's what happened. Mael lost Sunshine so it just kinda traveled for a while until it randomly fell upon Escanor.
The second maybe because past-Mel was built up to be such a gigantic bastard that Liz falling in love with him is such bizarre. Plus the fact the entire story started because of said relationship. There fucking is responsible for everything.

I don't really care much about why it was Escanor in particular, I'm just more curious about why in the world did Meliodas, Merlin, nor Gowther realize what his power actually was.
Like, there's no way they hadn't heard about it. But this series is filled with little inconsistencies like that, so I don't expect this to actually be addressed.

Do we know for sure that Merlin and Meliodas didn't recognize it?
Merlin's interest in Escanor is that she explicitly didn't know what was up with him.
I suppose nothing was said about Meliodas knowing either way, but given everything else I'd say "no".

Wellll to be fair, she wasn't directly involved in the war. Her city was neutral, then it got double torched because of her, then she probably went and hid until all the big scary demons and angels went away.

That would make sense. Considering the power of his magic fooled even the demon king, it wouldn't surprise me if it prevented anyone who knew of Mael's grace from realizing the obvious connection.

Mael defeats Zeldris and Merlin finishes her spell, but it was all for nothing, since Meliodas apparently escaped before she even finished it or something. Also, he's a big boy now.
The Demon King clearly looks like he's tired of this whole thing and wants Meliodas to be his successor already. He hardly seemed to have his heart in it when stopping Mel, Ban and Wild from leaving (though considering he's been there for like a billion years I can't fault him). We just don't know anything about the Supreme Goddess other than her being a shitty mother.
