There's some rules. It has to sound like a name, has to be two parts (First and Last name) and can't be a last name that plays a role in the EU or movies. No Jades, Skywalkers, Solos, Organas. Anything like that.
I'm a Muun named Adriav Zaram. I was originally going to be a Zeltron (Adriav is like John for them) but switched when I saw Muuns have better bonuses for what I want to do with him.
And yes, sorry, the lack of a link was my lapse. I'll do better the next time I make a thread plugging a game.

I tried to create a character named Damon Aligheri. The rules said "no names of famous authors" but all the names they listed as examples were full names (i.e. George Lucas, J.K. Rowling, whatnot). I assumed that a character who had the same last name as someone else would not be a problem, what with having a different first name and all. Apparently not.
I don't see why that'd be against the rules, either. Dude's been dead for... what, a couple hundred years?
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOINo idea. Couldn't you change one letter and try again?
I don't think so. It looks like they're vetted by actual moderators, and the listed reason for rejection was "Too close to the name of a famous author". I'm pretty sure it's not spelled the same as it is.
It probably seems disproportionately picky, but if I'm going to play a character I'd like to play one I've already established, and naming them something else seems...wrong. Weird, I know.
Yeah, the moderators do vet names.
If you still want to play the game, just think of it as a chance to create a brand new character for the Star Wars verse.
After all, this isn't Crossover Corner. Wookiepedia has a few articles here and there on common names for members of different species. It's how I picked Adriav back when I was going to be a Zeltron.
So I am officially in the New Republic. Just waiting for acceptance into the Academy. I hope I pass all my exams.
I am half way through my first phase of lessons. This is going to be fun!
I've been working assignments for the past week or two. Minor things, really. Pick up supplies, drop them in a base, use them to begin producing equipment. It's the job of a lowly Production Assistant, but it's fun!
Hyper Travel takes a long time some times. Took me five days in real time for a one way trip on a delivery mission.
I actually played this briefly about 10 years ago. It's somewhere between Grass Growing Simulator 1996 and Paint Drying II: Paint Dry Harder as far as the entertainment value goes.
From what I understand, if you're only playing in Darkness, the game browser, you're missing a lot. There's also the faction forums and IRC servers to hit, and you can get in a good bit of role playing as well.
Tragically, the handle I wanted to use (and thus the character I wanted to play) was not approved. Ah well.
