Heads up everybody: Funimation is putting the season 2 recap movie in US and Canadian theaters, and the first episode of season 3 is going on the big screen with it.

I saw about that! Very exciting stuff.

Bumping this since season 3 starts this weekend. Yes, this upcoming one five days away.

July 22nd (technically, July 23 12:45 am Japan time zone) is the premier date, subs up on Funimation, Crunchyroll, & Hulu a few hours after Japanese broadcast. Dub will premiere August 18 on Toonami.

Spoilers for the first episode are out, having been shown with the season 2 recap film. Ye be warned.

Boy they skipped a lot of things. Or rather, they started the season with a part that happened much later in the manga… So it seems they're gonna focus on Kenny first, with all things Historia-related postponed for later. We'll see if that decision was the right one, but in terms of pacing that's definitely an interesting one. I didn't see the 20 minutes pass.

There's also a scene that I think wasn't in the manga (the food distribution), showing how the nobles are trying to keep the population on the Monarchy's side.

The new opening will certainly not be as memetic as the first three, but I absolutely love it's bittersweet atmosphere. Both this and the episode's atmosphere do a good job of establishing that this season will be… different. Visually and musically this is stunning, but do I even need to say that. It probably helps that I'm downloading the thing legally this time around, so the quality's top-notch.

PS: Also, the very first scene all but confirms the Season's gonna go all the way to the end of volume 22.

I wonder how they're going to deal with the Levi Ackerman twist. Kenny reveals it so nonchalantly in the manga, and I bet the anime is gonna play up the dramatic effect, probably end an episode on it.

Never ceases to amuse me how painfully coincidental it is Levi just decides to bring Kenny up at that exact second.

I mean they kept the Colossal Titan reveal as casual as it was in the manga.

This is less a "high we're Titans" and more Levi decides to dramatically tell a story about a guy he has no real reason to bring up at that exact second. Who shows up minutes later.

The pacing was... kind of strange. I understand why they wanted to end the first episode this way, but I think the series needed a bit more downtime before starting this plot.

What he was observing at that moment reminded him of Kenny's methods, so yes, he had a reason to bring him up.

Pretty much. He was probably thinking something like "This is the sort of plot Kenny would hatch." Then it turned out Kenny is behind it after all.

Not really a coincidence. He brought it up because it immediately reminded him of Kenny's methods.

Attack on Titan, or as I call it: "NOM!" The Anime.

Seems the season is rearranging things, and merging the two kidnappings into a single event. It's giving it a pretty brisk pace so far.

Yep, it's going much faster than I thought, maybe a little too fast actually. The episode is so dense it must be pretty hard to compute everything that happened for anime onlies. Although the events themselves are rearranged pretty cleverly.

They didn't spend much time on the torture scene but I can forgive that. The part with Dimo Reeves did feel awfully rushed though. "Hello, join us", "OK", then Kenny happens, the end. Come on, take your time a bit more, anime…

Well, the author wasn't entirely pleased with the pacing of this arc in the manga, nor were many fans (though I am of the opinion that on a rearead it's not bad at all).

Agreed though, this might be a bit TOO fast, I hope they don't skip anything or confuse anime-onlys.

A talk episode this week, where we get to know Best Mom Ever and Best Dad Ever. And Park Romi having heaps of fun.

Again, it's all well-condensed, and probably easier to digest than last episode. My only nitpick would be the "flashback-in-a-flashback" near the end, but that's no biggie.

So… is no one watching this season, or are there no anime-onlies left here? >.> Because so far it's been damn near perfect in every aspect.

It's cool to see Marlow and Hich again. This kind of "rebellion for justice" fits Marlow's character pretty well, but I didn't expect Hitch to have such a rightful spirit. Or maybe she just prefers to have the Scouting Legion as friends than as enemies…

I loved the build up in the last scene. Makes you feel the stakes simply with good music and good direction.

…Now that I think of it, AOT is almost an anomaly in modern anime. A 60+ episode anime that's not a battle shonen à la Naruto or MHA, nor a sports show à la Yowamushi Pedal or Hajime no Ippo. Hell, I feel like it wasn't that common even in the pre-seasonal era.

I haven't really been watching the new season much. I have read the manga version of this arc, but I've been missing watching the anime beyond episode 1.

I read the manga but watch the anime with my dad. However, he can only watch it dubbed, which won’t begin until next weekend.

New episode, and it goes to show that you should never get to careful thinking you have got Erwin Smith cornered.

Oh, I wondered when they would include the scene of Eren seeing through the eyes of Frieda and now makes the most sense I guess. Kudos on how they rendered the ritual cave, it looks beautiful. <3

Oh my… They actually kept Zackley's "work of art." Though they didn't show too much of it.

For the rest, it was mostly an exposition episode, but they did a good job making it easy to digest, all in all. And that tension at the end… Although I honestly think Eren remembering that he ate his own dad should have been at the end of an episode rather than at the beginning.

I do wonder why the name "Ackerman" didn't make anyone tick when Mikasa joined the army.
