TVTrope's Campaign Setting: Domhain Sceal Character Creation

The purpose of this thread is to create the bare concept of characters within any system desired. Freeform is preferred for use as a base for any other system.

Below is a rules-light structure (Based in part on FUDGE) that can theoretically be translated into many other systems with minimal work. Here's the basic structure of the sheet:

** This can be further broken down into 'Sex', 'Race', 'Nationality', 'Personality', 'Appearance', 'Story'.

*** This is basically 'mechanical' portion, operating on a very rules light system. You set a number of points for which you then spend on building your character. 50 points is an average 'adventurer', say equivalent to a level 5 Dn D character if you must, so operate under that system of comparison.

Every Trait under the sections of Skills and Powers and the subsections under Attributes of Physical, Mental and Social are made-up whole sale and placed under the section they best fit in to. Most Traits are one point but can be bought multiple times to make it more powerful. The more specific a Trait, the less powerful it has to be, if that makes sense. Weaknesses can also be bought, in general or specifically tied to a Trait, adding a point back to the overall pool.

Now, this system is easily abusable. The point is, everything created here is cherry picked by whoever feels like it to adapt to their Domhain Sceal game. This includes yourself, if you find yourself running or playing in a game. The point is then not to make powerful characters but interesting ones and quite possibly go for well-balanced, and present in its barest nonsense free form.

- Description: This race is one of two referred to as the 'Troll'. They are a small grub creatures, about as long as so around as zucchini. They are all inherently Gifted Elemental Movers, capable of build rough humanoid bodies out of certain materials.

I have removed the FUDGE system as the 'default' system for this thread as obviously it has failed and only confused. Hell, it confused me and I made it.

Tiergan Khalon

Tiergan Khalon is a Legendary figure, a proficient serial killer with a conscious. A Sylvan whose age frozen earlier on the midrange, he is currently 45 years old while looking like a well-muscled 13 year old forever. He is a Juggernaut, powerful through Dedication and Dedicated through psychotic madness, learning magic of the sort that powered his mind as much as his body, allowing him to more proficiently carry out his murders. His magic, when actively powered, makes him intensely strong, fast and agile, resistant to sicknesses and poison, and bearing a visibly quickened regeneration as well as giving him higher cognitive abilities, reflexes, both physical, mental and social, and resistance to unnatural mental influences. Along with his below the radar modus operandi, he is truly a dangerous foe in the level he chooses to operate, which is usually among non-powered 'baselines'.

He is incapable of being both smarter and stronger at the same time. The latter requires he take advantage of a surge of adrenaline to power his body while the former needs him to lapse into a meditative state while he thinks on a subject or problem. In physical combat, he favors the use of knives and daggers, large ones with greater width and weight then their length would suggest. Often though, especially later in his career, he came to take to indirect way of carrying out his killings, scentless colorless gas that could lull a sleeping victim into a quiet painless death being a favored choice.

He is profiled as a delusional psychopath, a remorseless killer incapable of making personal connections and quite capable to make extreme decisions, such as to kill, and hold to them with terrible certainty until given sufficient reason to do so otherwise. What makes him a particularly interesting case is a lack of sadism on his part. He is a mission based killer, targeting those he's come to cold logical conclusion will result in a sort of net gain for everyone else. He lacks any sort of trauma in his life that made him snap and walk down this path. He simply came to the decision to carry out this duty on his own, shouldering the burden of taking lives when necessary.

Some view him as a very dark hero, some as a remorseless psychopathic serial killer. Below is from one of the few interviews ever conducted with him by a newscribe, taking a chilling look into his past and into his psyche.

"As a boy, I was shorter then the others but broader and I already had quite knack for deterring bullies with my silence and indifference. I was a loner even then, I did not get close to people. I regarded them all equally from afar and my interactions with them were always short, brief and decisive. Most thought that I avoided even thinking about contact, not realizing how much sheer thought, planning and preparation I put into my brief interactions.

"As I got older, I got better at it, planning my encounter more quickly but always with definitive certainty the few brief things I would do. For example, I was witness to a bullying, the typical act of one larger and stronger victimizing one smaller and weaker. I did not make friends but I did care about people, in general rather then personally. So I acted in the victim's defense with the same decisive certainty as I did all my interactions. First, I smashed a rock against his face while he was looking the other way. Then, while he lay on the ground, I methodically beat him with my fists, straddling his chest and wailing on his face until I was confident my point had been made. It was then he was heavily bruised and bleeding and only barely conscious. Afterwards, he was quiescent.

"Later, I thought to kill his dad. I had noticed that much of the bully's anger stemmed from his abusive dad so I made a guess that killing him would eliminate that source of trouble. It took me two years to finalize this decision, studying the family as a whole, weighing the pros and cons of killing the man. Most of my calculation centered around the emotional and financial impact his death would have. Emotionally, I concluded, his dad's interaction with him and his mom and his younger siblings were mostly abusive and on that scale a net gain would be had in his death. Financially, he had truly made them dependent on himself as the sole source of income, a part of his emotional grip on them.

"So to this end, it required that I learn a great deal of the system known as insurance, specifically the system that placed a great deal of money upon a person's life. It took me months of careful study and subterfuge, but I was finally able to commit a seemingly untraceable fraud of placing an insurance policy on the dad's life. Therefore, the financial security of the bully and his family were secured. Finally, then could I kill the man.

"But even after all that, I hesitated for a day pass when everything else had fallen into place. Then, the next night, when I worked up the nerve to do the deed, I broke into the bully's family's house with a knife, intent to cut the man's throat in his sleep. Instead, I found he had already done the deed and had hung himself. Now, since the life insurance I had forged did not cover suicide, the bully's family was thrown into financial despair. To support his family, the bully took up a life of crime, slowly being drawn into more desperate and depraved actions. When I decided to kill him, I did not make the same mistake twice.

"After that, I decided I needed to grow stronger and smarter and better. I found I had a knack for magic that would do all that for me and since worked hard to make myself what I am today."

I have some ideas, I just haven't had the time to sit down and whip up a full character yet.

Yvonne Gel (G in Gel pronounced with the the Guh sound rather then the Jah sound)

One of the previous wielders of the Violet Crystal of Inevitable Selflessness before her death, possibly the very last one before the current wielder (To be made by someone else).

She was descendant of a nymph, a third generation nephilim, on one side, and a dwarf on the other. She grew up to be a rotund woman, plump and large in every way save her height. She had long strawberry blonde hair she wore in a long braid, orange eyes and pale skin. At least, that what she looked like by default.

She did as some Crystal Wielder do and didn't use the powers of the crystal but its power as a whole to augment her own. Her magic was that of a plant-based shapeshifting, creating several botany themed forms for all kinds of different purposes. She had a total of nine known forms; the Red Giant where she became like an oversized red-colored Wood Duegar Titan hundreds of steps tall, the Green Giant, where she turned into a very tall Titanic woman with green everything, great strength and hyper regeneration, the Venus, a beautiful fae-looking woman made of wood with bug like wings of leaves with sixth senses for danger and causing havoc and pain and passing poisons by a touch, she did not like this form since it made her sadistic, the Mù Lung, a large lung wyrm looking form made of long sinous wood capable of great botanoturgy, the Long Lamia, a lamia looking woman with a tail made of a long vine and green arms, both tail an arms could stretch to great lengths and her arms could split into more arms, the Elena As Mother, an effigy of the nature goddess as a bountiful figure, looking most like Yvonne's base but entirely with green overtones and brown skin, healing all those in her presence and giving vitality to the land, the Elena As Queen, an effigy of the nature goddess as a beautiful ruler, with Yvonne's colors but a different shape, as curvy as she was naturally round, with a glamour that enhanced her beauty and conferred obedience and calm around her, the Wise Old Oak, a kind of tree person made of dark barky wood, smaller then Yvonne, with a largish bush of branches and leaves like an actual tree growing from her head with huge acorn that each act as separate hubs of thought, increasing her intelligence greatly and the Black Tree.

She died as many wielder of the Violet Crystal do, sacrificing her life to save many others. There had been a dragon that had been wasted by disease into madness and a drake-like aggressive territoriality. She slew the dragon by transforming into the Black Tree with her Death Curse, a tree with black wood, leaves and flowers that released a odorless colorless poison in such great amounts it would span the whole globe but only, only, kill one being, that dragon. The dragon fled but could not hide and died in the deepest darkest hole he could put himself in.

The Black Tree still stands, moved from it original spot in Yaodune and replanted as the center piece of Hrod's garden.

Kelmer "Crazy-Eye" Stevbloaugni

A man with a peculiar talent. It has been independently confirmed that he does not have a Gift, by magics made to detect such thing and those who have the Gift of Gift Sensing. He has learned, it seems, through sheer determination and Dedication, a trick with his eyes. He can look into the eyes of another and cow them. Those who have suffered it and lived describe it as seeing into his mind, "filled with such passion, rage and pride and greed and lust, but completely unbound by restraint, driven by impulse". Those with the Gift of Mind Reading and Feeling repeat the same thing. This type of wording is consistently used over even different language, leading some to speculate that he is a scion Godspawn of Amniel the Unbound during one of her soirees in the material plane, being that she would mother a child out of sheer impulse, or has some other connection to her as well as her sister, Darlian the Dancer.

He is of middling talent and ability otherwise, a decent warrior and mage both, although displayed of insane determination and grit that sometimes allows him to pull of impossible deeds. Some of his actions are heroic, some of them horrendous, done out of sheer impulse. He brings chaos wherever he goes, good or bad, always with a smile on his face as he murders or rescues. It seems he does have some manner of restraint, attributed to his mortality giving him some sense free will and differentiation in though pattern, as he normally avoids more civilized and ordered areas with enough resources and control to crack down on him. Normally, besides the occasional and eventful soirees outside his lawless hunting grounds. This makes Lryndarn is favorite haunt.

Anyone'd like me to create a character based on elements of the setting they made themselves?

Sure thing, I have a few character in the works and new bits to the setting itself.

Jeagan Mortovere

Jeagan is a Bard but he has no fanciful music or pretty colors that he shows. He simply speaks and inflect his voice with a hypnotic tilt, he simply looks and fills his eyes with unquestionable light that few men can gainsay, he simply walks and moves with the gait of a ruler that people wish to follow. These things he learned to do or perchance already knew how from some Paragon Gift, it's hard to tell.

Now Jeagan is no good man; he is a con artist, a cheat and a devil of a liar. He sees people as toys to play with, resources to be exploited, peons to place under his feet. Sometimes he's nice to them when the inkling strikes him and when it comes to matters of wide spread importance he will bend his talents to benevolent purposes. This is only to his benefit though, a safe and rich society is one that is fat and complacent, juicier for a predator and a parasite such as himself.

Jeagan is a Human who shows some some Beast-Folk heritage in thicker patches of hair as fine as fur on his body, pointed ears more like a beast's then a sylvan's and strange inhuman eyes. It some places, he casts a distinctive figure but he spends more of his time in cosmopolitan cities where he can blend in. A lazy hedonist clashes with an adventurous soul in his heart, and he goes seeking new places but always seeks to exploit them for his comfort.

Worst yet is now he has bent his head toward Mystic pursuits, to learn to communicate with spirits. He searches for tomes concerning to personify the living body, to fashion spirits that govern form and thought so that he might twist them too and in doing so extend his control over others.
