I haven't, but I remember people on RPG.net who hated his guts shutting down people saying he wasn't talented. They said that while he was a complete piece of shit the things he wrote that got awards did deserve it.

V5 is NOT a return to the 1st Edition style. That's just a party line marketing schtick put out by Parawolf. Vampire's First Edition was very much the same kind of "trenchcoats and katanas badwrongfun" that Second Edition was.

There is a lot of this romanticized and revisionist narrative concerning Vampire 1st Edition that Parawolf and V5's fans like to trot out that just isn't true.

The saddest part is that CT Phipps was actually there for V1 and still parrots the revisionist party line. Dude, characters like Malcolm and Phipps's own Lord Sirrus are far more in line with V1 than V5.

V1 may have been "street level" but it was "Street Level Supers With Fangs" as opposed to the shit we saw in V5. "A Storytelling Game of Personal Horror" was ultimately just a marketing tagline.

Look at Alien Hunger, Ashes to Ashes, or The Succubus Club.

The Succubus Club had "living chess games", a deadly virus, and a plot to kill a vampire Harry Houdini. And also the PC's getting constantly yet inadvertently punk'd by the WOD equivalent of Ned Flanders.

V5 is a return to the style of Requiem 2e but with a few superficial trappings of V1.

It's weird getting one of my characters from my teen years mentioned in a conversation about rebutting me.

:)

"Lord Sirrus, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time..." - Obi Wan voice

I will admit I find it kind of hilarious I knew exactly every adventure you were referencing in the Succubus Club.

Yeah, I've heard that some of V5 has issues too, though I can't really talk about it much cuz I barely know anything about WOD for the most part. I'm getting the sense that 20th Anniversary is the better version for now.

[up]Yup, 20th Anniversary for the core rules. 1st and 2nd Edition for the supplements

20th Anniversary apparently has a few supplements for each game too.

[up]Yes. V20 has updated splatbooks for the Camarilla, Sabbat, Anarchs and Tal'Mahera and what they've been doing in the 21st century, 2 separate splatbooks for the main clans and the bloodlines as opposed to 1 clanbook per clan/bloodline, an updated Path of Inspiration book and a metaplot book from Beckett's point of view. There's also an updated Ghouls & Revenants book. V20 Dark Ages also has a Player's Guide and a state of the world book. Almost forgot an updated Hunters Hunted book.

W20 has a White Howler tribebook w/c details what exactly happened that caused them to fall, an updated Book of the Wyrm that included the new Atrocity Breed like werefrogs, wereroaches, wererhinos and wereapes, an updated Changing Breeds that has a much less jokey and more mechanical take on the Nuwisha compared to their breedbook (the Beast Courts have also been folded into this book), an updated Rage Across the World, and an updated Umbra book. Books w/c I haven't got but maybe not planning on getting are Kinfolk book, a lifestyle book (Changing Ways) a Wyld West book and a pre-War of Rage book.

M20 has an updated Technocracy book (w/c I already have), an updated Traditions book, updated M20 Sorcerer, updated Victorian Age (the latter 3 of w/c I haven't bought yet but is on my bucket list but I'm prioritizing the Traditions book over the other 2), an all-faction Technomancer book, a book on how ultra-rich mages become and stay rich, a Player's Guide w/c contains the full Merits & Flaws list and my personal favorite How DO You Do That w/c is a guidebook that spells out what levels on each Sphere of Magick and w/c combination of Sphere do you need to do specific spells like teleportation, fireballs, necromancy, kinetically-enhanced punches, etc.

All 3 also have WOD20-to-COD-and-back translation guides.

Changeling the Dreaming 20th Anniversary (C20) only has a player's guide while Wraith the Oblivion 20th Anniversary (Wr20) has an updated Book of Oblivion as well as a Ghost Hunters book.

Sadly it seems like Paradox were the ones who started to put the brakes on the 20th anniversary line. OPP confirmed that they have finished their last Chronicles of Darkness book because Paradox has turned down all of their suggestions for books.

It's a shame that Demon the Fallen, Hunter the Reckoning and Mummy the Resurrection didn't get the 20A treatment. At least Kindred of the East had a fanmade 20A update published. Imagine how hunter.net would've look like in the 21st century. Also sadly it turned out Deviant the Renegade ended up being the last CoD gameline and its only supplement was focused on their Conspiracy counterparts the Devoted. I also think Exalted 3E got affected as well.

Currently OPP is focusing on Scion 2E, Trinity Continuum and a lot of original settings like They Came From... all of w/c use their new Storypath Nexus system.

It’s a real shame since Paradox doesn’t seem to care about the chronicles IP or Exalted. They had a real scattershot approach of licensing the WOD IP out everywhere with mixed results, I thought the New York visual novels were good (although the ending of the first was trash and not to the standard of the rest of the game), choice of games aced it three out of four times with their CYOA games, Bloodhunt had no business being as good as it was, but I haven’t heard good things about Swansong, Bloodlines 2 died and had to be restarted, the werewolf action game was mid at best, and so on

Currently, been waiting for Scion 2E God to be published since 1 of the new Pantheons in it is the Bisaya Pantheon from the Philippines. Wanna see whether they're exclusively Bisayan deities or more of a mishmash of other deities from other regions and ethnic groups of the Philippines.

Speaking of What If hunter.net got updated to the 21st century, I remember how V20 updated to the 21st century techwise w/ humor blogs like The Book of Don, social media sites like Fangbook and an online movement named the Red Question.

I split the WtA character page because it was getting huge, but I feel like it could use more cleanup and organization.

Red and Pleasant Land? Going into the Tremere now, huh? Aren't they British in origin?
