…Okay, that took me by surprise. Just when I was expecting a repeat of the original's plot, we got a sudden time skip instead, and it was brilliantly done. I wish this arc didn't open with the death of Lukako, but that drives the point home at least. It's also kinda heart-breaking to see Faris still act like her usual self, but with a gun in hand.

Now there's something weird… if Mayuri disappeared in 2011, how did she become Kagari's mother in the future…?

This is a similar but different future than the one past!Suzuha came from. In this future, Mayuri's not around so this version of Kagari's fate is up in the air.

[up] Well that's confusing…

Anyway, I binged the last 3 episodes. Still trying to process all the timeline shenanigans but one thing I can say is damn, Hōōin Kyōma's return was glorious. He had a full year of chuuni bullshit to catch up on, and it showed. [lol] Aaand then he had to kill "Kurisu". Again. Damn it sucks to be him.

Now my only big question is… how the fuck did he find Mayuri and Suzuha 20k years in the past…?

But overall, the series was pretty great. The form and visuals felt more… conventional? than the first series, but the plot was a bit more interesting, if a tad convoluted. It added just enough new and compelling characters to not feel too much like a rehash, and as cliché as the tragic scenes were at times, they still mostly worked.

Oh, and the sung version of Gate of Steiner was beautiful.

One thing I do criticize both the VN and the anime for, moreso the anime, is that Fubuki and Kaede get forgotten about a lot. In the VN they show up a bit more since Fubuki's Reading Steiner is expanded on more, but in the both they pretty much vanish after a certain point.

…You're right, there was a brief mention of that at some point, but I completely forgot about it. ò.Ô

[up]The same production company claimed to be working on a live action Sword Art Online they got as far as selling its rights to Netflix in 2018 before going completely silent. I’ll believe it when I see it.
