Well, last season started......I am in mourning already. It's so bittersweet to watch Neal knowing that the end is near.

I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but I like how the girl handled her job two weeks ago. Grabbing her boss by the short hairs, and then quitting instead of extorting a promotion? Classy.

I have to say that I have mixed feelings about this season. It wouldn't be bad as the beginning of a final season, but there's at least one loose thread that they haven't even touched yet: Bringing Neil's dad to justice. It'd also be nice to see Neil actually land a love interest he can take on adventures. Right now we're only getting a piece of the puzzle, not the whole thing.
Honestly, I think it is better if they don't hook Neal up. This way the fandom can decide with whom he went later on.
And the dad story is really done. He has to hide from the police, and I don't think that Neal would feel better with the knowledge that he is in prison. Them meeting again is another thing better left to fanfics.

I don't have the same faith in fanfics that you do. Canon done right always beats fanfiction. Worst case is that if you don't like how canon handles things, you can do your own fixfic to feel better about the outcome.
Yeah, but there are some things better to left open. Like who Neal will end up with.

You know what would be hilarious? If Kid Burke turns out to be a daughter. +15-16 years and her suitor find himself opposite Peter, Neal and Mozzie to take her to prom

It's a good ending, but it's being used quite a bit.

It has, but I don't mind really. Hell, I've seen a story with the twist ending where the lovable rogue actually dies and it did not go over well with the fandom. Sometimes it's best to just give people their happy ending.

I do mind...that was exactly the ending I was hoping wouldn't happen. Because after all this years, Neal deserved to be truly free, as himself. Plus that after all those years Neal set someone up to die, even if it was Keller, left a very bad aftertaste. Above all though: I wanted him to be truly free, and to have all the options of the world open to him, including staying as Neal Caffrey in New York if he wanted to.

So just the ending played straight? The government keeps their word and that's it?
Also, I wouldn't say Keller had to die for Neal's freedom. Keller died because of the type of person he is and it all just finally catching up to him.

Why the hell not? Neal could have set up a fake intentity for the panthers which died, while Neal Caffrey officially finished his sentence and might or might not go straight. You know, I would have been just as emotional if Neal had just left, with the question if he will ever come back to New York hanging in the air, instead of the show effectively banning him from ever showing his face in the town which is essentially his home again.
And Neal knew how Keller would react.

I think they will leave it ambiguous...but I want him to be free in the end.
