Recap / Twinpeaks S 3 E 16 The Return Part 16

Go To

The evil Cooper/Mr. C drives with Richard Horne along a forest road arriving at a prominent rock somewhere in the wilderness near Twin Peaks. Mr. C explains to Richard that this location matches up with two identical sets of coordinates provided to him by different sources, and requests that Richard check out the rock to see what he finds, handing him a sensor to identify what he's looking for. As Richard climbs up the rock, the sensor starts to beep rapidly, and upon exclaiming he's found it, Richard is suddenly electrocuted. Mr. C reacts with mild disappointment, saying "Goodbye my son" and confirming his paternity of Richard.

In Las Vegas, Janey-E and Sonny Jim watch over Dougie, now hospitalized and comatose after sticking a fork in the power outlet. Bushnell and the Mitchum brothers arrive to bring gifts and sympathy. Meanwhile, FBI agents stake out Dougie's house, as well as Chantal and Hutch, disguised as maintenance workers across the street. The Mitchums leave the hospital and arrive at the house, bringing stockpiles of food for Dougie's family. Suddenly one of Dougie's neighbors, a Polish accountant, drives up and asks Chantal and Hutch to clear his driveway. They are openly hostile and the situation escalates to violence when the accountant angrily rams their car and Hutch fires a shotgun at him. The man fires back with an automatic weapon, killing both Chantal and Hutch as they attempt to flee. The FBI arrests the accountant, who willingly surrenders as the dumbfounded Mitchum brothers watch.

Janey-E and Sonny Jim leave Dougie's side to find the hospital bathroom, and Bushnell wanders out of the room after hearing a faint ringing noise. Dougie suddenly wakes up, now fully conscious as Dale Cooper again. He immediately takes charge of the situation, arranging for the Mitchum brothers to fly him back to Washington and take care of Janey-E and Sonny Jim. He says his farewells to Dougie's family, reaffirming that they are his family as well, and also commends Bushnell and the Mitchums for their innate goodness. Though everyone is shocked by "Dougie"'s sudden lucidity and assertive behavior, they willingly follow his directions and Cooper is set to return to Twin Peaks.

Mr. C sends a text to Diane reading ":-) ALL." Diane walks to the hotel room where Gordon, Albert, and Tammy are staying, with a gun in her purse. On arrival, she seems to have second thoughts and sits down to recount the night Cooper visited her years ago. She reveals that something was horribly wrong with Cooper, who raped her sadistically and then took her to the Woodsmen's convenience store. Diane starts to break down, exclaiming "I'm not me" before pulling a gun. She is outdrawn and shot by Albert and Tammy, and her body suddenly vanishes. Diane appears in the Black Lodge, where MIKE informs her she was manufactured. Diane says simply that she knows and curses at MIKE before her body breaks down as the original Dougie Jones had.

Audrey and Charlie arrive at the Roadhouse, where they have a drink. Suddenly the Roadhouse announcer exclaims "Ladies and gentlemen, Audrey's dance!" and the band onstage starts to perform the iconic tune while the audience shuffles unnaturally to one side of the room, making space on the dance floor. Audrey is compelled to step out and begin dancing to the music in an apparent trance, which is suddenly broken by two men getting into a fight over one of their wives. Audrey goes back to Charlie and begs him to get her out of there. She abruptly appears to wake up, looking into a mirror in a sterile white space.
