In which the plot strikes back

It's the day of the full moon, so you know what that means! Plot forwarding! I hope!

We're greeted by Akihiko, who wants to know if we've been training in Tartarus. Since we kinda took down all three big Shadows, I'd say that counts as training. He's pleased by our response, telling us to keep up the hard work. Yay, praise! Since it's a full moon, we're booted right back to our dorm for what I'm sure will be a fun and eventful evening! We cut to the Dark Hour, where Akihiko and Mitsuru are messing with an old radio. Well, Mitsuru is messing with it. Akihiko is just expressing disbelief that she's even trying. Apparently it's a scanning device that Mitsuru's trying to use, but Mitsuru's scanning apparently doesn't work outside of Tartarus. Mitsuru explains that she lacks the kind of power needed to do it. She then goes on to gush about how awesome I am, what with my Persona switching and all. Of course, all this lovely talk is ruined when the radio goes off, revealing a Shadow to be nearby! Then again, maybe not, since Mitsuru says the reading is too big. Hmmm, most curious. I smell boss fight! Akihiko goes to wake up the others via what I can only assume is a Shadow alarm. Mitsuru briefs us all on the situation. Shadows outside of Tartarus, up to us to save the city, yadda yadda. Junpei is quick to realise that this means beating up lots of Shadows, and is more than happy to do just that. Akihiko offers to come with us, but Mitsuru quickly shoots him down, pointing out the whole "broken rib" thing. Akihiko isn't happy about it, but he listens to reason. We're sent off to the station to wait for Mitsuru to show up with the equipment.

A short while later, we're still left waiting for her. Minato and Junpei were smart enough to bring drinks for this situation. Yukari, however, was not so quick to grab refreshing liquid, so she loses out on the whole "drinking" thing that all the cool kids are doing. Yukari points out the full moon, but before we're given time to ponder on how much it looks like the one from Majora's Mask, Junpei spots Mitsuru showing up via... motorcycle. I like her style! When Junpei asks how her motorcycle can be working during the Dark Hour, when all normal equipment is usually kaput, Mitsuru simply says "it's special." Gee, thanks for that. We then get sent to our battle area for this full moon, an old monorail track that's inactive due to the Dark Hour. Apparently some shadows are going to attack the passengers on one of the monorails, so let's go murder them!

After a quick run (with some REALLY demented background music) we find ourselves at the carriage. We're told by Mitsuru to investigate it, but to be careful during our exploration. Junpei's excited to get to fighting (of course), while Yukari is just worried people will look up her skirt. Priorities, my party members have none. It's at that point that Yukari realises that the doors are wide open, despite not being at a station. About time someone noticed that... Of course, the doors choose that exact moment to follow the logical rules and snap shut behind us. Le sigh. Turns out the Shadow knows that we're here. Great. Locked in a train carriage with a bloodthirsty Shadow and a only coffins for company. Sounds like a bad acid trip... Strangely, we encounter no Shadows up until the second carriage, where a giant Muttering Tiara drops from the ceiling. It appears to have a bible hanging from a string with a life of its own. Before we can beat it to a bloody pulp, however, it flies off. Junpei tries to pursue but is stopped by Mitsuru. We're asked what we think, so I respond with "We should go after it". Hey, we took down all three bosses in Tartarus so far, so why not? Before we can all go in as a team, though, Junpei dashes in like a moron. Oi vey... Two of the same Shadows decide to drop from the ceiling at that moment, so it's up to Yukari and I to take it out. Turns out they're called Suspicious Book, and they're weak to getting their precious holy books burned to a crisp. Agi it is! Or just normal attacks, since they're absolute wimps...

We try to go after Junpei, but our progress is blocked by more Suspicious Books and another creature that looks like a crucifix with a scale attached to it. That's... a thing! They all go down easily enough. We find Junpei in the third carriage, surrounded by shadows. He tries to tell us that everything is fine, but it's Junpei. Guy would understate losing an arm. Thankfully they all die very quickly, so that's nice. Orpheus also levels up from all this, learning Tarunda. Fun times! After the battle Yukari tries to lecture Junpei on the values of sticking together, but Junpei's having none of that! Before they can trade more verbal blows, however, the carriage starts moving. That's... odd. Apparently the Shadow has learned how to operate equipment and it wants to crash the carriage into another train. As is the norm with this stuff, we need to get to the front of the car to stop the Shadow. Not only that, but we need to do it within 8 minutes! Thankfully the timer stops during level up screens and dialogue, which is nice of Atlus. Suspiciously nice...

As we move through the train we're given multiple Shadows to take out, all while the clock ticks down to our destruction. All in all, not the greatest environment to be fighting a boss in. However, we smash through the Shadows and get to the main car, where...this awaits us. Her main tactic was to summon other enemies, but once I assigned Junpei to smacking her and Yukari to healing, that didn't really work. After a while she tried to just smack at us, but some more Cleaves and Bashes brought her down within 2 minutes. All in all, not too bad for our first real boss. For our efforts we get a diamond and another level up! We can also now store 8 Personas, which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, we're still moving, so we have to head to the control centre quickly in order to slam the brakes on. However, none of us know exactly how to do that, so we all die horrible, pain... wait, no, Minato fixed it. Protagonist magic, go! We're asked by Yukari how we knew which one the brake was, to which we of course reply that we "trusted our instincts". What, you thought I'd not go for the Star Wars reference? For all that we also gain the next rank for the Fool Arcana. Yay... We also gain "Conserve SP" as a tactic, though, which is nice.

We cut back to Akihiko and Ikutsuki, who get debriefed by Mitsuru via communicator. Mitsuru praises us, Ikutsuki's happy that we prevented a horrible crash and Akihiko wants to know why the Shadows are doing what they're doing. Mitsuru foreshadows stuff yet again by asking if "it" has begun. She then beats herself up about her lack of power, but Ikutsuki reassures her. Nice guy, our chairman. Of course, it turns out that Ikutsuki needs a stiff drink after that. Not surprising, really. Then again, it may just be because he cycled all the way to the dorm. Well, with that little bit of comic relief out of the way, we cut to Sunday and a phone call from Elizabeth. She's calling to let us know that we can now explore higher levels of Tartarus. We'll have to check that out some time, but for now let's call it an update and indeed a day. That was one heck of an update, though! Glad I did it tonight instead of tomorrow. So, until next time, I wish you a pleasant Dark Hour!

People talk about how Persona 3 only has one dungeon.

Well what do you call this?

Persona 3 - including the bit in The Answer - has two main dungeons, each split into several subsections, and a handful of very small one-time-only dungeons. Most people ignore The Answer and the mini-dungeons.
