what is this i dont even

Well, time to continue our descent into the Tower of Babil. We head down a couple of doors into B5, then see the Mysterious Bitch coming out of the Crystal room. Huh.

Gekkou: It's her!

Edge: Who?

Tsukinowa: You know her?

Gekkou: She's the one who came from the meteor! I suspect she is one of the enemy leaders!

Zangetsu: Goodness. She's still only a young girl.

Edge: So what's our next move?

Gekkou: We must avoid a frontal attack at all costs!

Izayoi: For you to say so, Gekkou, she must be very powerful indeed.

Edge: Watch yourselves, everyone. We must act carefully.

So after finding a chest with a Chain Whip in it we prepare for a frontal attack. We approach her.

(Edge... Edge...)

Edge: Who... who's that!?

(You cannot win against this adversary...)

Edge: What!?

(Run... run away from here as fast as you can.)

Edge: (Run!? Who are you!?)

Two people appear in front of Edge.

Edge: (F-Father! Mother!)

They disappear, replaced by Rubicante.

Edge: (Rubicante!)

He disappears too. So, against the advice of the only member of the Eblan Four with a brain, Edge's parents, and the physical embodiment of fire, we're going to attack the Mysterious Bitch. This is obviously the best course of action.

Mysterious Girl: Some rats have burrowed their way in, I see.

Edge: You're the one that doesn't belong, I'd say.

Gekkou: Master! Don't provoke her!

Mysterious Girl: What do you mean?

Edge: Why have you activated this tower? What is your reason for this?

Mysterious Girl: There's no use explaining to an inferior species.

Tsukinowa: What did you say!?

Izayoi: You dare look down on us!?

Edge: Inferior species... Yes, perhaps you have a point.

Mysterious Girl: You have some sense, I see.

Edge: Well, I do my best ...But you do realize that humans have the power to adapt, right?

Mysterious Girl: Adapt?

Zangetsu: Don't let your guard down, Master!

Mysterious Girl: In that case, it would be smart for me to settle this quickly.

Edge: What?

Mysterious girl: You don't need to know.

And then she attacks us. Well, we've got two more bands to use, and she's not gonna do anything interesting, so let's show them off. Combining the Ninjitsu of all of the Eblan Four gets Wheel of Elements, which does quite a bit of damage to all enemies.

After a while, she summons Ifrit.

Edge: Ifrit!? Rydia... What's happened to Rydia!?

Well, that was fast. We've still got one more band. Combining Mug, Steal, Illusions, Human Kite and Shuriken gets us Ultimate Art: Advent of Phoenix.

Zangetsu: Endless night, lit by fiery wings...

Izayoi: Bound by the darting, dancing sword...

Gekkou: Let it slice the encompassing dark...

Tsukinowa: And sound the tolling bell of tomorrow!

Edge: Now! We call forth Eblan's ancient technique...

Advent of Phoenix!

Then a Phoenix flies in and sets everything on fire. It hits hard, even harder when the group is low on HP.

Of course, Failure Is the Only Option, as Ifrit eventually uses Hellfire. We're in trouble.

Edge: Ergh! Trapped!

Mysterious Girl: You may die now.

Edge: Not if I can help it!

Then the group... slides of screen? Okay... We retreat, but she blocks the exit.

Mysterious Girl: You have nowhere to run.

Edge: You think? (The return of the moon, the reactivation of the tower... My mother and father... and the image of Rubicante... Everything's happening just as it did before!)

Mysterious Girl: Your bravado ends here.

Edge: Oh?

He casts what I guess is Smoke, giving us a distraction to run into the Crystal room.

Mysterious Girl: Trying to escape the inevitable... Incomprehensible.

Meanwhile, in the Crystal room...

Tsukinowa: Where are we!?

Izayoi: It's a dead end!

Gekkou: Master! Why did you bring us here!?

Zangetsu: Do you have a plan?

Guess who teleports in.

Mysterious Girl: What do you have in mind, exactly?

Edge: Good to see that things haven't changed here either!

Hey, remember that trap door we fell into when trying to grab the Crystals in FFIV? Because Edge does, and he just opened it. We all run in.

Gekkou: A trap door!

Tsukinowa: This place is like some kind of ninja stronghold!

Zangetsu: Amazing, Master!

Izayoi: She's coming for us!

Edge: Forget her! Just keep running!

Every battle from here on is against Ifrit. The Eblan Four complain about it and our apparent lack of plan every time we flee, but who cares about that. We eventually make it to the airship dock.

Edge: Here we go!

We head in. Cue flashback to when Cecil found this place.

Cecil: What's this? The enemy's new airship?

Edge: All right! We can escape in this!

Rydia: But it's an enemy ship...

Edge: Who cares? I'm sure she'd rather be flown by us anyway!

They get on the ship.

Rosa: You don't suppose this could be a trap, do you?

Edge: This beauty? Not a chance!

Back to the present. The dock is empty. Dead end.

Edge: !!!

Zangetsu: It's a dead end!

Gekkou: There's no choice but to fight our way out!

Izayoi: Master!

Tsukinowa: Ifrit!

Ah, there she is. Right on cue.

Mysterious Girl: Are you done?

Edge: all right... You win.

Mysterious Girl: Ah. So you've finally accepted the inevitable.

Edge: I have to admit you got me. There is one thing I'd like to know before I die, though. What's happened to Baron... to Cecil?

Mysterious Girl: Baron is gathering all of the world's Crystals by the order of King Cecil.

Edge: Huh, I see. Well, now there's no doubting it. History is repeating itself... right before our eyes!

He steps back.

Mysterious Girl: !?

Edge: Your superior kind wouldn't know it... but our kind have a little something called instinct!

Edge then jumps off the platform. This... I don't even know what the hell is going on any more.

Izayoi: Master!

She jumps of too.

Gekkou: Gah...!

Another one gone.

Zangetsu: Geronimo!

There goes the next one.

Tsukinowa: Aaaugh!!!

And that's all of them.

Mysterious Girl: Choosing death of their own free will... Incomprehensible.

...Their options were death or death, stupid.

The group fall, only to land on the Falcon?

Tsukinowa: Ow!!!

Izayoi: Where are we?

Gekkou: An airship!?

Rydia: Edge!?

Edge: Hey, Rydia. I haven't died and gone to heaven, right?

Rydia: What... Why did you just fall out of the sky?

Edge: History is repeating itself, that's all. Though I couldn't be sure everything would work out this time...

Zangetsu: So that... that was a complete gamble on your part, Master?

Tsukinowa: How could you be so reckless with your own life!?

Edge: Hey! Luca! Looking good there!

Luca: Well, thank you! Not as good as you are, though.

Edge: Who's that?

The Man in Black is standing at the front of the airship.

Man in Black: Sorry to disappoint you, but we don't have time for a reunion right now.

Edge: Huh!? Where did you come from!?

And that's the end of the Tale. So, in conclusion, Edge ignores everyone when told not to go after the Mysterious Girl, jumps off of a tower based on a hunch, flirts with Rydia, and then when his subordinates question him about doing something so stupid as to nearly kill himself ignores them to flirt with Luca.

Edge is the best character.

So Mi B's party decided to go to the underworld. Does the game ever explain why?

Not that I can think of, no. In the next tale that follows on from this one, you can't even get into the underworld, IIRC.
