Chapter 31: Hot...in a creepy sort of way (Sands of Time)

Chapter 31:

The past days events all happened so fast. We needed to regroup and figure out what our next plan of action was going to be. Ostia wasn't far from the Blazing Sword's former resting place and was probably the safest location in the Lycian League, so we decided to rest there. Lord Uther was out on a trip to Etruria, so Hector handled everyone getting settled in. While we were there, Athos told us his tale. Apparently he met Nergal over 500 years ago, and at the time, their shared thirst for knowledge had them become fast friends. One day they learned of a village in the Nabata Desert that was the residence of both Dragons and Humans living together peacefully. The two of them created a barrier so that no one would harm the village, and they lived there in happiness, learning the ancient ways of the world from the libraries that were housed there. During there time there, their paths changed. Athos wanted to spread this peaceful paradise to the rest of the world and show that dragons and humans could coexist, while Nergal learned his ability of stealing life from creatures and turning it into power. When he was unable to be dissuaded, the people of the village banished him. From there he made an army of "morphs" humanlike creatures from the life he stole from living things.

Athos's story was interrupted by a group of assailants that managed to warp into to castle. Lyn and Eliwood have insisted on joining us yet again. As before, I don't like the idea of it, but Hector and I plan to keep them from getting hurt. Ostia's guards are here to help out, so they'll keep the two of them out of the combat.

Before the fight began, I used up some of the enhancers that I had lying around. I used an Angel Robe on Serra, a Talisman on Dart, and Speedwings on Hector.

Hector: Hector followed after Dart to the east of the throne.

Serra: Serra helped to provide what little magical support she could near the throne.

Kent: Kent fought alongside Hawkeye near the eastern entrance. He also got the Body Ring from the western chest.

Lucius: Lucius helped to protect the guards from the archers on the eastern entrance.

Dart: Dart rushed out from the eastern side of the throne

Fiora: Fiora helped by escorting Matthew to the chests that were on the northwest side of the map.

Hawkeye: Hawkeye helped to shore up the eastern defense. He had the honor of defeating the leader this time. After that, he continued fighting, maxing out his potential along the way.

Eliwood: Eliwood rested near the throne the entire time.

Lyn: Lyn stayed by Eliwood

Marcus: Marcus made sure that the two of them stayed safe.

Matthew: Once Fiora cleared the way, Matthew took a few items out from the Ostia chests that he thought would be useful. Since Matthew works for Ostia and it's for an Ostian backed quest, I guess it's technically not stealing...

Legault: Hung out by the throne.

Louise: Stayed with her hubby.

Pent: Kept her wife safe and stayed out of the action.

Oswin: Kept the throne safe.

Jaffar: He followed behind Serra, just in case things got too dice-y.

Vaida: Vaida used her speed and defense to help wall up the eastern entrance.

Interestingly, the man named Denning was one of the first to fall during this battle. He rushed out at Kent with his bow, all while mumbling about Nergal awaiting us at the Dread Isle. It only took Hawkeye a single well aimed swing with his Killer Axe to finish him off.

Eventually the reinforcements finally arrived, though by then we had the situation under control. Athos confirmed that this fight had been against Nergal's morphs, as had a couple other fights that we had faced earlier on. Our only hope is to use the Legendary Items to defeat Nergal. Our troops have decided to take the fight to Nergal and end this once and for all. Athos has asked to hold onto the Armads and Durandal while he makes some last moment preparations for the final fight.

Later that night, I heard Hector and Oswin arguing. It ended on a very sudden note; Hector is sure that while we were gone, his brother passed away.
