Mini-Update: Goof Correction

I'm going to read Episode 2 this weekend. But before I do that, I need to correct an error form the last entry that arbane brought to my attention in the comments. Thanks, arbane!

So I said that Natsuhi didn't have the key the first time when she went to see Kinzo, and that he therefore had to have been in there when she entered. That's wrong and the narrative makes a big deal of her getting the key. Weirdly enough, I actually had this right in my first draft, then I stayed up until 3 AM working on it and when I posted it in the morning the correct stuff had been removed. I guess I shouldn't stay up late while trying to use my brain. Thus, I'm going to discuss the possibilities for Kinzo's leaving the room again and talk about how the new options affect my speculation.

Option 1: Kinzo hid in his room when Eva and Natsuhi went in and left later.

  • This would imply that he wasn't working with Natsuhi, but for himself. Though honestly, I have no idea to what end.

Option 2: Natsuhi helped Kinzo get out undetected, whether through the door or the window.

  • This means the two were working together for some purpose. This purpose, though, eludes me. It would fit in with my previous theory, but I'm not sure how much I'm willing to distrust the Kinzo corpse when I have an alternative killer. The narrative did mention that polydactyly's a lot more common than people think, but still...

Option 3: He left before Natsuhi entered.

  • This one is the most interesting to me, which makes me even more annoyed that tired!me removed it. Tired!me can be an asshole sometimes. It implies not only that Kinzo had free reign of the mansion for much longer than implied, but also that everything Natsuhi said about her conversation with him was a lie. This seems in character for her when one considers it as a reaction to the scene with the gold  *, but I'm not sure what the significance is.

In short, I've got some interesting questions about Natsuhi and Kinzo.

That's something I'd really like to explain, along with Rudolf's prediction of his death.

But I have a working theory for everything else, so I've at least completed the first half of my goal in demonstrating that it's possible for the murders to occur through human means. For the moment, I'm satisfied enough with Episode 1 to move onto Episode 2.

Same here. It's nice to see someone try to figure out Umineko in such a methodical way. It would be nice if you at least finished the first 4 arcs. Just sayin'.
