* FanonDiscontinuity: Don't talk to Stan and Wendy fans about the B-plot of this episode. It isn't all that hard, since Matt and Trey have mostly disowned it.
* HarsherInHindsight: Seeing Cartman and Wendy briefly develop feelings for each other in this episode, since the relationship will not only become more hostile as the series goes on (with Wendy becoming Cartman's second most recurring ArchEnemy after Kyle), but Wendy's biggest CMOA would be giving Cartman a well deserved NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.
* ValuesResonance:
** This episode has become very relevant in TheNewTens with the controversy surrounding the calls for the removal of images and memorials of figures involved with the Confederacy by people in the southern US.
** The final design of the flag--which the town seems to agree on--could be seen as skewering calls for token diversity in positions of power while ignoring the systemic injustices that lie at the very roots of the inequity to begin with (in this case, ''still'' having a black man being hanged at all).
