* SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments: Depending on who you ask, every moment of Yoshiko's beatdown from Akkun counts.
* AccidentalAesop: The comment of the children about the importance of education was obviously not meant for some message and was simply PlayedForLaughs. Nevertheless, it is difficult to disagree with them that education is an important base in life, and this is exactly what Yoshiko lacks in the first place.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** Yoshiko calling the Disciplinary Committee member a pervert. [[HypocriticalHumor After she was the one who groped her]].
** Akkun's beating up everyone, from [[WouldHitAGirl Yoshiko]] to [[ButtMonkey Ryuichi]], to Yoshiko's mother, to [[WouldHurtAChild his own little sister]].
** Yoshiko's mother implying she [[BlackComedyRape raped]] Yoshiko's father.
** The fact that not even Akkun's [[ChildrenAreInnocent little sister]] is immune from the slapstick.
** And then there's chapter 122, where Akkun calls Philippines the "Banana Country".
%%* CatharsisFactor: For anime fans sick of shows rife with DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale, this anime is for you.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: The gyaru girls have gained quite a bit of popularity, thanks to all of them being unexpectedly cute and pure.
* HoYay:
** Yoshiko is so impressed by the Disciplinary Committee President's [[BuxomBeautyStandard chest]] when they first meet, that she then excitedly tries to touch her and compare, even justifying it with the claim of "this is for science!"
** Yoshiko is also very affectionate towards Sayaka. One of the monthly chapters even has her kiss Sakaya on the lips.
** Everything concerning the gyaru girls, considering two of them start dating each other in the extra chapters, with one of them furiously denying enjoying it because they're both girls.
** Very, very oddly parodied in the sixth episode, when Akkun and the dog suddenly set up the HeterosexualLifePartners relationship, after which Yoshiko begins teasing him, accusing him of zoophilia.
** Ryuuchi's desperation to become A-kun's friend makes him seem like he has a crush on the guy. His rather submissive personality and his initial animosity towards Dog for being friends with A-kun doesn't help.
* JerkassWoobie:
** You have to feel bad for Akkun, who's basically stuck being [[LethallyStupid Yoshiko]]'s caretaker and didn't really have anything resembling a normal life or friendship because of her -- but as Sayaka points out, part of that is his own fault, as he's such a bitter, pessimistic, and violent person that nobody smarter than Yoshiko would ever want anything to do with him. However, all the incessant stalking and sexual harassment he endured from Yoshiko since childhood was what drove him to become so violent ''just'' to protect himself from her.
** Yoshiko is so stupid her mother and teacher call her an idiot to her face and consider her to be a failure with no hope for the future, and who spends way too much time having the crap beat out of her by her so-called best friend. But even though she doesn't mean it, her immaturity and idiocy cause no shortage of misery for all those around her.
* MemeticMutation:
** The way that Yoshiko pronounces the word "banana", is absolutely charming, and the first thing that many will remember from this show.
** The uppercut from the first episode is so sudden and shocking, that some have referenced this anime as being "That show where a guy beats a girl in the jaw!".
** Thot Patrol/Begone, Thot![[labelnote:Explanation]]Akuru's {{No Holds Barred Beatdown}}s on Yoshiko have spawned the view that she is a "thot" ([[FunWithAcronyms That ho over there]]) and he is doing his duty of protecting others from her[[/labelnote]]
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome:
** While Yoshiko is a given, give props to Sayaka for being able to unwillingly run about 100 kilometers with her.
** For Akkun, he plays a rhythm game so that he could appease his sister with a rare card from the game. When he failed for the first time, he decided to use what he learned from his childhood to understand the game. The result, [[spoiler: first place nationwide & collected all the rare cards he could get.]]
* ValuesDissonance: Of the {{Slapstick}} variety. Much of the humor of ''Aho Girl'' derives from the fact that it is [[GenderInvertedTrope Role-Reversal]] of the typical Anime Comedy setup. Yoshiko, the female protagonist and LovableSexManiac IdiotHero here, is frequently the victim of abuse from her {{Tsundere}} male love-interest, Akkun. The fact that the series is playing with anime tropes, especially in the West, where [[AllAbusersAreMale Male on Female abuse is viewed in a harsher light]], leads to this.
* TheWoobie:
** Unlike Yoshiko, who seems completely unaware of the misery she causes others, Ruri is painfully aware of her own shortcomings. Also unlike Yoshiko, Ruri desperately tries to actually improve herself, but none of her work ever pays off. It's saddening to think that she doesn't have anything she's good despite all her efforts at whereas the easygoing Yoshiko is good at basically everything except studying.
** [[NiceGirl Sayaka Sumino]] is the one of the only characters in the series who isn't a {{Jerkass}}, which obviously gives her a lot of sympathy. As she's the OnlySaneMan stuck in the middle of [[SurroundedByIdiots a merry band of violent, crazy, idiotic people]], it only becomes easier to pity her because of that.
