* AscendedMeme:
** "Thanks Pete" became such a popular meme after its appearance at the [=APMAs=] that the band created a shirt for it and now sell it in their store.
** It appeared again in a video advertising their ''M A N I A'' fidget spinners, several years after the original meme first popped up.
* ApprovalOfGod:
** When the band decided to riff on Music/{{NSYNC}}'s "It's Gonna Be Me" video for "Irresistible", not only did they get Wayne Isham, who directed the original, they also got Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone themselves to appear in the video. (Lance Bass later tweeted that he too thought it was hilarious.)
** Creator/UmaThurman [[https://www.today.com/video/uma-thurman-on-burnt-efforts-to-save-rhinos-fall-out-boy-tribute-551945795978 approves of the song named after her]].
* BuryYourArt: ''Evening Out With Your Girlfriend'', mainly due to the recording circumstances and the intent for it not to be released. Whenever the band discusses their history, ''Evening Out...'' almost never comes up. "Growing Up" was acknowledged on "What a Catch, Donnie" and it made an appearance on ''Believers Never Die'', mainly due to it being the band's first song. The band disliked the record so much that years later, they paid to buy the record off Uprising to keep it from ever getting rereleased.
* ChannelHop: Creator/IslandRecords signed them early on in their career, but Island executives employed an unusual strategy: give the band an advance to sign to a small indie label for a one-off album to test the waters. They signed to Creator/FueledByRamen for ''Take This To Your Grave'', and once it became a smash hit in the indie circuit, they hopped back to Island, where they stayed for six albums in two three-album deals. Once their second deal at Island was over, they hopped back to FBR, which by now had become a major player under the Creator/WarnerMusicGroup umbrella thanks in no small part to the success of ''TTTYG'' and Pete's vanity label Decaydance.
* CreatorBacklash: Patrick Stump played with this trope in a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone after the band reunited; the backlash wasn't for the band itself or even for the music, but more for the emo scene they became associated with.
* MagnumOpusDissonance: Patrick had a lot of high hopes for ''Infinity on High'', his role in the album was mainly a response to thinking that ''From Under The Cork Tree''' wasn't entirely deserving of the Grammy nomination it got. He explains more about it in the liner notes for the Believers Never Die greatest hits compilation.
* ThePeteBest: Drummer Mike Paresuwicz and guitarist T.K. Kunasch, who play on and appear on the cover of ''Evening Out With Your Girlfriend''. Even more Pete Best-ier are several lesser known guitarists and drummers, that were in the band for even ''less' time than Paresuwicz and Kunasch, before Andy joined and Patrick took up playing rhythm guitar.
* PromotedFanboy: As Chicago natives, they are long time fans of the Chicago Bulls. So the team asked them to create a new version their [[http://www.nba.com/bulls/entertainment/only-bulls-fall-out-boy-feat.-lupe-fiasco-0 theme song]], which they happily did in collaboration with fellow Chicagoan Music/LupeFiasco.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: The version of "What a Catch, Donnie" that appears on ''[[GreatestHitsAlbum Believers Never Die]]'' replaces Music/ElvisCostello's cameo with Patrick's vocals as the record labels for Costello and the band couldn't reach an agreement in time for the album's release.
* SoMyKidsCanWatch: Part of why Fall Out Boy appears in the first part of the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' special "The Night Begins to Shine" for Pete. (Doesn't hurt that he's friends with Creator/TaraStrong and Creator/GregCipes either.)
