!!"Sold!" contains examples of:
* AnArmAndALeg: Squidward accidentally rips Mr. Krabs's arm off while taking the trash bag he's holding.
* BilingualBonus: [=SpongeBob=] and Squidward's attempt (as a German "neighbor") to speak German. The episode even ends with Squidward saying Ouch in German. Imagine how the German dub for this episode is gonna end up sounding like.
** In the German dub proper, the two instead use a Bavarian dialect, which, considering Squidward's attire, (which is that of a stereotypical German, read: Bavarian) is quite appropriate.
** The German is fairly good, but not perfect. In the episode, Spongebob says "Ich bin gekommen, um meine altes Heimat zu besuchen", which is servicable and understandable German. However, the word "[[https://en.langenscheidt.com/german-english/heimat Heimat]]" usually has connotations of "homeland" or "home country" or even "hometown" as opposed to "house" or "home". Really, Spongebob should have said "mein altes Haus".
* FawltyTowersPlot: When Squidward finds out that [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick thought their houses got sold, he decided to go along, happy that he no longer lives next door to them. And when they want to visit their houses, Squidward makes up a story about new neighbors now living there, hoping it will discourage them from visiting. [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick come anyway, and Squidward have to pretend to be the new neighbors, making more lies until he gets fed up and shouts the truth to them.
* LiteralMinded: When told that Nick Fishkins flips houses for a living, and that Squidward was going to call him to flip his house, [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick proceed to literally flip Squidward's house upside-down.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: Squidward dresses as one of the "neighbors."
* ScrewThisImOutOfHere: Squidward, at the end of the episode when he gets fed up with pretending to be the new neighbors and decides to move out, only for [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick to ruin his plans.
* ShaggyDogStory: [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick's houses were never technically sold; the business fish only says "sold" to flip the houses he passes.
* ShoutOut:
** Squidward makes a face that resembles [[Literature/HowTheGrinchStoleChristmas the Grinch]] after realizing that living without [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick isn't bad.
** The Fish Trapps are a reference to the Von Trapps from ''Film/TheSoundOfMusic''.
* YankTheDogsChain: Squidward is legitimately excited to go home when he realizes [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick moved... but after their ''first night there'', the two are already homesick and want to visit, forcing Squidward to improvise an excuse to make them think someone's already moved in. Poor Squid doesn't even get one moment of peace to enjoy it- he only realizes they moved before he leaves for work.

!!"Lame and Fortune" contains examples of:
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: The island is now in 3D.
* TheCameo: Everyone who attends Mr. Krabs's make-believe funeral.
* CirclingBirdies: [=SpongeBob=] gets circling stars, clams, and anchors after he is trampled by the customers.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: When the crowd of customers prevents Plankton from getting the formula, he angrily confesses that he wrote the fortunes so that they would leave. However, he forgets that Mr. Krabs and [=SpongeBob=] are also in the restaurant and learned that their fortunes were also fake. This is [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Plankton.
* EatenAlive: Plankton at the end of the episode.
* EvolvingCredits: It's the first episode to premiere with the HD opening. Some of the changes are minor, but as shown on this episode, the live action island is no longer there.
* FreezeFrameBonus: If you slow the episode right down just as Mr. Krabs' ImagineSpot begins, you'll see his portrait in said ImagineSpot suddenly go from having half-open eyes to fully-open eyes.
* ImagineSpot: Mr Krabs has one, focusing on his funeral, where Pearl mourns the loss of her father before giddily taking his money to spend on shoes and [=SpongeBob=] bawls until Krabs' coffin overflows with tears.
* MisfortuneCookie: When fortune cookies start predicting the future, Plankton realizes he can twist them into his own evil schemes. Which is funny because Plankton's VA, Mr Lawrence, wrote this episode and there was a WesternAnimation/RockosModernLife episode written by Stephen Hillenburg focusing on Filbert (voiced by Mr. Lawrence) getting a bad fortune cookie.
* OwMyBodyPart: The "My leg!" gag makes a return here with a new audio clip instead of just reusing the same one.
* PianoDrop: A fish reads a fortune saying that he will soon injure his legs, and not long after, a grand piano falls out of nowhere and crushes his legs. He then painfully yells out "MY LEGS!!!"... but is happy about it since he was looking for an excuse to skip jury duty, so he does a glissando on the piano and thanks the fortune cookie.
* ShoutOut: At one point, Plankton is shaped like the old Nick splat logo which the Splat block currently uses.
** Plankton stating that fortune cookies are [[Film/IronMan3 "hollow, full of lies, and leave a bad taste in your mouth".]]
