!Danse Vaudou

A pretty girl walks down an alley, where a detective (one Jim Corrigan) has drunkenly decided to take a leak. The young lady is a bit unnerved by him, badge or not - so unnerved, in fact, that she bangs into another pretty woman. The trouble is that the girl who was walked into is insecure about her looks, so when the first woman tells the other she doesn't think she's pretty, out come the scissors...

Meanwhile, Zed is continuing to learn how to control her powers. After an incident with a zoetrope, she finds herself connected to the memories of a boy whose mother taught him how to shoot. When she ends up meeting the boy - who has since grown up to become that very same detective. When they learn that there is more than one spirit (including the stabby woman in the prologue) causing deaths, it doesn't take long for them to put two and two together.

!Tropes present in this episode include:
* AccentUponTheWrongSyllable: It's "MEE-sah-key" not "Miss-SACK-key".
* AntiVillain: Sure, he profits from it, but Papa Midnite really ''was'' just trying to help the grieving people left behind by the three spirits. When he realizes that their rampaging was his fault, he is driven to stop them.
** The ghosts aren't ''genuinely'' malicious, just twisted by the guilt of the people who wanted to talk to them.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Exaggerated; Chas confuses and frustrates the ''kuchisake-onna'' by asking her any question that comes to mind.
-->'''Chas:''' Do ''you'' think ''I'm'' pretty?
* AssholeVictim: The sleazy driver who picks up the hitch-hiking ghost. He's clearly planning on doing something unsavory, so no tears are shed when he inevitably crashes.
* TheAtoner: The model who stabbed Misaki has since tried to be a better person.
* BerserkButton: When the ''kuchisake-onna'' (literally "slit-mouthed woman") asks you if you think she's pretty, do ''not'' say no. Then again, saying yes doesn't really help...
* CameBackWrong: The ghosts.
* DrivenToSuicide: Misaki Ross, a beautiful model who was stabbed in a rage, ended up killing herself when she couldn't live with being disfigured.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: At one point, Zed has a vision of Jim bleeding and glowing in a green aura. This is a nod to his alter ego, The Spectre.
* GhostlyGoals: All three spirits - Misaki just wants to be beautiful again, Phillip wants to go to the city, and Clark misses his wife. Unfortunately, thanks to the guilt of the people they left behind, this results in death.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: Papa Midnite's spell to communicate with the dead wasn't supposed to bring them back permanently ''at all'', much less as malicious spirits.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Chas, again, enabling him to face off against the ''kuchisake-onna''.
* JackOfAllTrades: Papa Midnite calls John this - except replace "jack" with "jack-ass".
* KickTheDog: The model who stabbed Misaki. Not content with merely injuring her, she ''disfigured'' her, taking away her livelihood.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The model, along with Papa Midnite. Both are driven to atone for what they've done.
* PetTheDog: Papa Midnite is horrified when he realizes that his magic has inadvertently hurt people, and he genuinely cares about his sister.
* RealMenWearPink: Chas is an excellent cook, although it took a lot of practice and more than a few burn marks.
