2	Mr. Scratch rams the BAU car with a truck, injuring all and killing Stephen. He abducts Emily and feeds her drugs to make her think she is immobilized by her injuries. Rossi summons Reid and Alvez, who weren't in the car, to his hospital bed, and tells them in code to enlist Matt Simmons to help them track down Scratch and rescue Emily.
3	!!Tropes:
4	* ArcWords: To Prentiss, the title proper, though she keeps it to herself for most of the episode.
5	* BatmanGambit: Prentiss and the now-deceased Walker are revealed to have been pulling one on Mr. Scratch. Knowing that he was monitoring them, they faked a series of texts between Prentiss and Hotch that would make it look like Prentiss knows where Hotch and Jack are, in order to lure Scratch out to try to get this information out of Emily. It works, since Scratch did fall for the texts, comes out of hiding to abduct her, and is caught because of it, resulting in his death; sadly, this also costs Walker his life.
6	* BigNo: Scratch's last words as he falls to his death.
7	* CallBack: A couple to the Ian Doyle arc, and how Prentiss technically died during it when her heart briefly stopped. She defiantly tells Scratch that she's "died protecting a child before" (Declan Doyle), and her remembering that everything was cold and dark the previous time she "died" and that's not the case this time she's supposedly dying allows her to realize she's hallucinating and break through it.
8	* CarFu: Scratch rams a truck into the side of the FBI car, killing Stephen and injuring everyone else.
9	* CharacterDeath: RIP Stepher Walker. In a subversion of BlackDudeDiesFirst, he is the first active duty BAU member who has died. Gideon died a couple of years earlier, but that was years after he was forced into retirement.
10	* DamselOutOfDistress: Mr. Scratch abducts Prentiss at the beginning of the episode to interrogate her as to Hotch's and Jack's whereabouts. In order to keep her subdued, he drugs her before even taking her out of the SUV so she'll believe most of her limbs are broken and she can't fight him (as revealed by Tara to the rest of the team). However, once Prentiss realizes this on her own and is able to see through the delusions, she pulls an ISurrenderSuckers on Scratch, attacks him, and escapes by herself and keeps him at bay while he's chasing her, though thankfully her teammates arrive as backup to help.
11	* DeathGlare: Alvez gives Scratch one of these dripping with hate and disgust when [[AintTooProudToBeg the latter begs Alvez to save him]].
12	* DidntThinkThisThrough: Peter's efforts to simulate a NearDeathExperience for Emily do not work, because she already has had one and it was very different than his simulation. His efforts to scare her into giving him information overlooked that most of the B.A.U. members treat each other (and their biological families) as surrogate family members, and are not willing to sacrifice them. His efforts to hack telephone conversations overlooked the off-the-record conversations on the team, and his efforts to hack into computer files somehow overlooked the personal notes and records kept by the team. For a supposedly omniscient villain, there was much that he did not know about his opponents.
13	* DisneyVillainDeath: How Mr. Scratch finally meets his end.
14	* DoubleMeaningTitle: The title is a catchphrase that's been repeated on the show since the beginning to let everyone know they're flying somewhere in x minutes, but this is actually one of the few episodes where the team doesn't fly anywhere, and at the end Prentiss reveals that repeating this phrase to herself helped her stay sane through the torture.
15	* EvenEvilHasStandards: When he thinks Prentiss is implying his interest in Jack Hotchner is sexual, Peter Lewis is visibly angered. It makes sense considering that Scratch's own StartOfDarkness was his father being falsely accused of pedophilia and killed in jail for it.

17	* HeroicSelfDeprecation: At one point, when Garcia asks Reid why he threw a book at the wall in anger despite making an important breakthrough in the case, Reid replies that he's angry with himself for taking longer to figure it out than he feels he should have, especially when time is of the essence for rescuing Prentiss.
18	-->'''Spencer Reid''': It took me 60 minutes to figure out what should've taken 60 seconds. If Emily dies because I was too slow, I'm gonna be throwing a lot more than books.
19	* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: All of Scratch's shots to drive off a pursuing Alvez miss wildly, as well as [[HoistByHisOwnPetard causing the fire escape he's standing on to collapse]], leaving Scratch dangling from the building roof.
20	* ItsPersonal: Invoked by Reid about Mr. Scratch: Reid clearly tells Alvez that after everything Scratch has done to the B.A.U., he has no intention of taking him alive.

29	* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Scratch makes Prentiss hallucinate that she is [[GoIntoTheLight dying]] and standing by her own grave… which clues her in that she is hallucinating, because [[Recap/CriminalMindsS6E18Lauren the last time her heart stopped]], all she saw was darkness. When Prentiss sees through that, she understands what's going on and starts seeing through all the other hallucinations, culminating in her escaping.
30	* ObfuscatingStupidity: In the hospital, when giving Reid and Alvez instructions, Rossi knows that Scratch may be listening in via their phones, so he pretends to be too concussed to think straight, also playing up being an injured GrumpyOldMan. Alvez and Reid, in turn, pretend to not know what he's talking about and act like they think he's just rambling.
31	* SurvivorGuilt: A minor case for JJ. She tells Will that she was planning to sit in the back of the SUV, but Stephen sat there instead and let her have the front seat. In the ensuing accident, JJ suffered a head wound that needed stitches but was otherwise okay, while Stephen was killed.
32	* TitleDrop: All the team members drop the episode title at the end.
33	* VillainRespect: After Prentiss tells him she won't give him anything he wants (see MamaBear above) and doesn't flinch when he holds a scalpel to her eye, Scratch acknowledges she's too stubborn to crack under [[ColdBloodedTorture physical torture]].
34	* VillainsWantMercy: Peter Lewis has the gall to beg Alvez to help him when he's dangling from a collapsing fire escape. Alvez lets him fall to his death instead.
