Kim Tae-hyung (born December 30, 1995), known professionally as [[OneLetterName V]], is a UsefulNotes/{{South Korea}}n singer best known for being a member of the boy band Music/{{BTS}}. From 2019, V had released a handful of solo non-album singles and soundtrack appearances before making his proper solo debut with his 2023 album ''Layover''. V's solo work, especially on ''Layover'', is prominently jazz-influenced and largely in English.

!! Maybe we could be slow troping:
* AloneAmongTheCouples: This is exaggerated in the first part of the "FRI(END)S" video, with ''everyone'' around V being paired up and showing affection. This becomes inverted in the second part of the video: after V gets hit by a car, he wakes up with a girlfriend who is happy with him while everyone around them is fighting.
* BeachEpisode: The "Slow Dancing" video has V take a trip with some friends to a beach in a mountainous area and later spend the evening on a boat at sea.
* BreakupSong: "Love Me Again"
--> "You left me\
Took those memories with you\
But even now, I can't let you go, let you go"\
([[https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/vbts/lovemeagain.html English translation]])
* CanineCompanion: V's Pomeranian dog Yeontan appears with him in the loosely connected AnachronicOrder series of ''Layover'' videos (albeit played by a different dog) and on the album cover. "Blue" ends someone sending him the dog to help him get over an apparent breakup. The dog quickly becomes his best friend, appearing in all but one of the remaining videos ("Love Me Again"), and is the only character besides V in the "Rainy Days" video.
* ChristmasSongs:
** Averted with "Christmas Tree" from the K-drama ''Series/OurBelovedSummer''. Despite being released around Christmastime, Christmas trees are only mentioned in passing.
--> "They're singing like Christmas trees for us"
** Played straight with "Snow Flower"
--> "Did you see the snow?\
Like your eyes\
Believe in Santa Claus?"
* ColorfulSong: "Blue"
--> "What if I show you and make it all new?\
Green, yellow, red, blue\
Whatever seems good to you"
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: The "Blue" video is in black and white.
* GroundhogDayLoop: The "FRI(END)S" video has V repeating the same day with a twist and getting hit by a car. First he is AloneAmongTheCouples, and then he is the only one in a happy relationship while everyone else fights. [[spoiler:The video ends with him waking up with a copy of himself, implying he realizes he only needs himself to be happy.]]
* LighterAndSofter: Downplayed compared to the solo albums of the other BTS members. The mix of jazz, pop, and R&B on Layover is lighter than the hip-hop solo albums of rap line (Music/JHope, Suga, and RM) and especially ''Face'' by Music/{{Jimin}}, but not to the extent of the straight-up pop of ''Golden'' by Music/JungKook.
* LimitedLyricsSong: "For Us" has just a sped-up intro passage, a middle verse sandwiched between the choruses, and a slightly different reprise of the intro lyrics.
* LongDistanceRelationship: "For Us"
--> "Now I'm in California\
I'm still waiting for ya\
Will you change your mind?\
I would give it all up\
For us"
* LongestSongGoesLast: ''Layover'' ends with "Slow Dancing (Piano Version)" (3:08), though it is only very slightly longer than "Slow Dancing".
* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: "FRI(END)S" addresses a friend who gives mixed signals that could be interpreted as wanting something more.
* PerformanceVideo: The centerpiece of the ''Layover'' video series is V performing "Love Me Again" in a cave.
* RearrangeTheSong: "Slow Dancing (Piano Version)" has a different intro and replaces the outro flute solo with a piano solo.
* RecycledTitle: "FRI(END)S" shares its title with "Friends", his duet with Jimin on the BTS album ''Music/MapOfTheSoul7''.
* RhymingWithItself: "Rainy Days"
--> "Don't tell me it's over, we can start it over"
* SelfTitledAlbum: ''Layover'' is stylized as ''Layo(v)er''.
* TitleOnlyChorus: "Blue"
--> "Blue, Blue\
Blue, Blue\
Bluuuue\
Bluuuue"
* AWildRapperAppears: Peakboy appears in "Snow Flower", the only song in V's solo discography to have any rapping in it.
