In a series spanning nearly 50 years with a mostly male cast, it’s bound to have a lot of tension between them.
----

Lupin and Jigen is the most common, fueled by Jigen being a HeManWomanHater and his ShippingTorpedo-caliber hatred of Fujiko hanging out with Lupin.
----
* Anime/TheCastleOfCagliostro: Lupin and Jigen have been alone for a whole year without Fujiko or Goemon. At the castle ruins, Jigen puts Lupin into some pretty compromising positions trying to torture the silence out of him.
* In Part 1/Green Jacket series, Jigen absolutely despises Fujiko and acts horribly jealous of the amount of attention Lupin pays to her. He prevents her from visiting Lupin in jail for an entire year, throws Lupin out of a boat in a huff after he comments about a cute girl, saying he can go swim after her, and breaks down in tears when he thinks Mamoh has poofed Lupin out of existence.
* Goodbye Partner: When Lupin confronts Roy Forest about Jigen's betrayal, he does so in a way that implies Jigen was cheating on him with another woman/man.
* The Blood Spray of Ishikawa Goemon: Fujiko is getting a back massage from Lupin, but it's made to look like something more intimate is happening at first. Jigen complains about her moaning. Fujiko says he's envious of her position.
* Manga.
** Volume 2 chapter 17. Jigen is in his boxers and a towel because he was in the river and Lupin didn't give him time to dress before going on a mission. Jigen says he'd rather not work naked. Lupin tells him he shouldn't be embarrassed because he has a great body.
** Volume 3 chapter 20. Zenigata is trying to threaten and bribe Jigen with food to get him to rat on Lupin. Jigen says Lupin would kill him if he squealed, followed by "Don't get the wrong idea, I love the guy." Bonus points: unlike the other examples from the manga listed here, which are Woolseyisms, this line is present in the original Japanese too.
** Volume 3 chapter 23. Lupin asked Jigen why he followed him to the North Pole without orders to do so. Jigen replies "wherever you go, I go." Latter while Lupin is in disguise, he declines to cuddle with Fujiko. She assumes that Lupin wants to cuddle with Jigen instead.
** Volume 8 chapter 72. Lupin is trying to rape a woman who turns out to be Jigen in a full-body Fujiko suit, turning a NoYay situation into a gay joke. Lupin says "I know he's horny, but nobody's THAT horny."
** In Volume 1 of the Shin Lupin manga, Lupin plans to get a risky surgery that increases IQ, speed, and sexual stamina. Jigen suggests he get a boob job instead.
* Part 1: Green Jacket Series.
** Lupin and Jigen run off together into the sunset, slapping each other on the back.
** Jigen acts like an angry wife when he realizes Lupin is late because he brought Fujiko home again.
** Lupin pushes Jigen into a bush, taking a bullet to the arm to protect him.
** Laughing after a caper involving drag, Lupin says Jigen made a "sexy maid."
* Part 2: Red Jacket Series.
** Lupin forcibly stripping Jigen of his clothing at a casino in Monaco.
** Despite going to a nude beach in order to steal a statue and apparently ogle women as a bonus, Lupin was very VERY insistent that Jigen come with him. As soon as they walk out of the changing room (which they shared), the rest of the episode is just full of nude and shirtless men running around.
** Episode 32 had fanservice for everyone. After saving a girl from two rapists, she invites them to a palace full of half-naked women that they were planning to rob. Lupin plays with the girls in the pool while Jigen sits in the corner looking extremely pissed at Lupin for getting distracted again while on the job and outright refuses to look at the girls. Lupin fondles the head lady and asks Jigen if he's jealous. Jigen responds in an extremely tsundere manner; "You idiot!"
** Lupin and Jigen create a floating technique for falling situations, and they cling to each other the whole time.
** Jigen only seems to shed tears when something terrible happens to Lupin, never for any temporary love interests who die on him or stab him in the back. When he thinks the Assassin Puma has gunned down and drowned Lupin, he completely loses his shit while taking out his anger and grief on the environment, in tears, while locals and tourists look on in trepidation at the distraught man shooting the trees around him.
** In episode 49 of Part 2, there's a one-minute montage of Lupin and Zaclyne having lovey-dovey hand-holding romance, while a very lonely Jigen stares on and is visibly pissed about it.
** Episode 84 had some great bromance, including a moment where Lupin was sleeping on Jigen's shoulder in the car. Jigen gets rescued by Lupin in the nick of time while he's tying to help his old mentor Spade Jack escape mobsters. Jack ends up being a backstabber, like nearly everyone else in Jigen's life. Jigen is emotionally crushed and his gun arm was hurt jumping from the car. Lupin vows to take revenge on Jigen's behalf, due to both his hurt arm and the emotional damage of having to shoot another former loved one. They discover that Jack has some kind of Star Trek-like teleporter that can beam stolen goods directly to Jack's penthouse, but it's never been tested on humans before. Lupin insists on being the first test subject rather than Jigen, who is dumbstruck that Lupin would do this and visibly worried about things going wrong. Lupin is disoriented from his trip and things don't go as planned, so Jigen teleports loaded dynamite to save Lupin.
* Part 3: Pink Jacket Series.
** Jigen snarks on Fujiko twice as often as he did in Part 2, seeing her as the manifestation of everything he dislikes about women and Lupin's one true weakness. He is furious about the way she treats Lupin, aggravated at the way Lupin keeps falling for her schemes, if anything seems remotely off, he vocally assumes that she is working against them, screwed them over by stealing the loot, or betrayed them to the cops. He's exasperated by Lupin's every-other-day attempts to get her to marry him, and if he knows that Lupin is stealing something specifically to give to Fujiko, he will excuse himself from the mission.
** Lupin and Jigen are hiding from the New York mafia when the building they're in explodes. They take refuge in a cramped little safe in a compromising position and mess of tangled limbs. When Zenigata starts digging through the rubble, they realize they're going to be like this for a while.
** In episode 37, Lupin and Jigen escape Zenigata riding a device that looks suspiciously like an Ai Ai Gasa; the Love Umbrella that covers the names of two people in love.
** In episode 41 Jigen has a romp around a town with a woman and there's not an ounce of romantic spark between them. The episode ends with Jigen not even saying goodbye to her, then repeatedly touching Lupin's face in a rather caress-like manner as the cruise ship leaves town.
** In episode 43, Jigen and Goemon back out of a mission to help Fujiko avenge her dead friend Gretchen, but he spies on them the entire time and twice mentions that it hurts to watch them.
** Episode 45, Lupin and Jigen ride a one-seat scooter, and Jigen has his arm around Lupin's waist.
* Part 4: Blue Jacket Series.
** Episode 1, Jigen asks Fujiko why she accepted an invitation to Lupin and Rebecca's wedding, and if she was jealous that Lupin had been stolen from her. Fujiko throws his question right back in his face and says that he couldn't fool her that easily.
** Episode 16, Lupin says he's taking a day off from thieving to deliver a lost dog to Fujiko at the marina and eat sushi. Throughout the entire car trip, Jigen and Lupin bicker like an old married couple while Goemon awkwardly sulks like a child in the back seat.
** Episode 21, Lupin and Fujiko are in a tank being chased by the police. Jigen shoots out the cops' tires from a distance on a boat. Lupin yells "Jigen! Aishiteru ze!" which means "I love you."
* Part 5: Blue Jacket II.
** Episode 2, The Lupin Game has spread the rumor that Jigen is Lupin's lover and follows him wherever he goes. Jigen asks if it's a joke while Goemon eyes him from the side, trying not to laugh. Lupin teases Jigen, provoking a tsundere reaction. Jigen denies it loudly while Goemon scoots away from him trying to suppress a smile.
** Episode 18, Jigen and Lupin bicker like an old married couple the entire episode. Goemon forgets to bring a disguise, so they tie a ribbon in his hair so he can be "their granddaughter." Jigen gets mad when Fujiko shows up and he and Goemon go to the kitchen to get away from her. She follows him in wearing only a T-shirt. Goemon tells her to go put some clothes on. She says she did and flashes her panties at them. Lupin pervs out and Jigen gets pissed and puts him in a choke-hold. Goemon goes into the bathroom to ask Fujiko what she hid in the toilet, but she's naked and he goes into panic mode. Lupin is very pleased, but Jigen covers his eyes with his hat and says he wishes she'd keep some things hidden, then he simpers in the corner of the room pouting about how Fujiko has Lupin wrapped around her finger.
* The Woman Called Fujiko Mine:
** Episode 9, Instead of asking Jigen for a cigarette, Lupin takes one directly out of Jigen's lips and puts it right in his mouth without wiping it off.
* Anime/LupinZero unexpectedly acts as a decades-in-the-making payoff for all the subtext described above by essentially telling Lupin and Jigen's teenage love story: the two meet in the first episode and gradually bond over the following three episodes, with the fifth episode culminating in the two being on opposing sides of a conflict much bigger than the two of them. The excitement of the situation leads to Lupin realizing that he thoroughly enjoys living on the edge with Jigen, deciding then and there that he'll become a thief, and subsequently pulling off his first heist, as Lupin approaches Jigen (who still has his gun pulled on him, mind), the tension so hot a heartbeat is audible... and places his hand on Jigen's chest before pulling it away. While the two boys never directly say they love each other, the meaning of this scene is, unlike past romantic teases, unambiguously clear.
-->Lupin III: So, Jigen... was I able to steal it?
-->Jigen: ...I'd say so.

* Goemon also acts like an angry wife when he realizes Lupin is late because he brought Fujiko home again. He even storms off while making a snide comment about women.
* Goemon, again, also only seems to shed tears when something terrible happens to Lupin, never for any temporary love interests who stab him in the back or fall to his enemies. When he thinks the Assassin Puma has gunned down and drowned Lupin, he joins Jigen in completely losing his shit while taking out his anger and grief on the environment, in tears, while locals and tourists look on in trepidation at the distraught man slashing the trees around him.
* In Part III, Goemon is completely on-board Jigen's hate-train for Fujiko. He gets very irritable whenever Lupin wants to do something for Fujiko and especially testy if it involves marriage plans. He will usually excuse himself from the mission, but DependingOnTheWriter he and Jigen sometimes go along with no complaints if the episode required Fujiko be a team player.
* From at least mid-Part 2 all the way to Part 5, Goemon makes it clear in his face, actions, and words that he does not like it when Lupin flirts with women, especially if it's Fujiko.
* In part 5, there are social media pictures of Lupin hitting on a receptionist with Goemon's displeasure in this painfully clear. There's also an episode where Lupin apologizes to Goemon for needing to be rescued, to which Goemon blushes and quickly looks away, saying being apologized to gives him a nervous rash.
** Episodes 21-23, Goemon is offended when he finds out he is listed as Lupin's underling on his [=PeopleLog=] profile. He spends the entire day angsting over what his relationship status with him is, what Lupin feels about him. Enzo suggests that Goemon is like a pretty gem Lupin collected to look at. In a stupor, he challenges Lupin to a duel and cuts him, then freaks out when he realized what he's done. Amy compares Goemon's situation with Lupin to Fujiko's situation with Lupin. Goemon stays with Lupin the entire time he's in the hospital and looks more miserable than he ever has in his life. In the ambulance, Lupin reminds Goemon of a time he fell for a cross-dresser.

A safe yaoi pairing by fans who support the canon hetero couple.
----
* Red Jacket:
** The gang has just escaped from a jail that uses hair to scent-track escaped convicts. Throughout the episode, the gang has been discarding various items of clothing to throw the trackers off the trail. At one point, the three of them are in a deep hole standing on each other's shoulders in nothing but their underwear. Goemon holds Jigen around the waist while he aims his pistol, and his underwear vanishes for a few frames.
** Jigen sends Lupin a note, asking him to rescue Goemon and himself from a village run by a psychotherapist dressed as a nun who brainwashes people and sells them to foreign countries as soldiers. When Lupin finds them, they are living together like a peaceful married couple, complete with Jigen in an apron serving dinner.
** In episode 44 Fujiko and Goemon go on a holiday to Miami together, leaving Lupin and Jigen to carry out a heist on their own, something the two men are quite annoyed by since the other two's skills could have really helped on that occasion. In a moment of frustration, Jigen has a petty ImagineSpot during which he envisions the two being swept away by a big wave while they're surfing, and for some reason, in his fantasy, they are both pictured wearing extremely skimpy swimsuits - yes, not just Fujiko, but Goemon as well.
* Pink Jacket:
** In episode 41, Goemon spends the first half of the episode worrying about Jigen because he hasn't contacted them, then gets mad when he finds out Jigen was late because of a woman. When He and Lupin are on a plane, Lupin jokes that Jigen is on a date with the girl and Goemon is visibly furious.
** In episode 43, Jigen and Goemon leave Lupin and Fujiko alone to do their mission together. The two of them just hang out in the bushes for a while. Goemon looks annoyed when Jigen leaves to follow Lupin.
** In episode 44, when the team is burdened with babysitting kids claiming to be theirs, Jigen and Goemon admit that it is impossible for either of them to have had children from a fling. Jigen also tells Goemon he looks good in drag.
* In Anime/LegendOfTheGoldOfBabylon, after Lupin manages to have the upper hand over a group of Mafia henchmen who attacked him in his hideout, Jigen and Goemon pop out of a nearby room asking if the commotion is over with. Jigen is in a full pajama while Goemon is barechested - enough fodder as it is already, then a slightly misaligned cel makes it look like Goemon is wearing only the sarashi without the fundoshi, giving the impression he was effectively naked from the waist down while sharing a bedroom with Jigen.
* In Anime/LupinIIIAlcatrazConnection Goemon gets in a relationship with an aspiring supermodel. Jigen finds out, and when sees the two exchange a kiss he looks away, annoyed.
* A scene from Anime/LupinIIITheFirst that Japanese shippers got some mileage out of is the one where the gang is captured and tied up. During the whole time, Jigen keeps one leg wrapped over Goemon's, and the samurai doesn't seem bothered at all by the somewhat awkward physical contact. It even got its own nickname, "Reiwa niowase" (Reiwa era hint, fodder).

* In an episode loosely based on the 1959 movie Film/SomeLikeItHot, Lupin has to disguise himself as a woman in order to get onto a ship that only allows women, outside of the owner and his security. The owner, Onabess, falls head over heels for Lupin and chases him all over the ship for days. Lupin reveals he's a man in order to discourage him, but Onabess is totally fine with it. Lupin, tired of it all and his last resort not working, agrees to marry him. Fujiko watches Lupin go through with the legally binding marriage (granted, it's questionable if it's legal in 1977, but the Lupinverse has mythological creatures and Las Vegas is in Arizona here). After the ceremony, Lupin calls Jigen and Goemon over to help him steal some paintings and screw over Fujiko all in one shot. And much like Rebecca in the Blue Jacket series, Lupin never officially gets a divorce, making him still legally both Rebecca's husband and Onabess's "wife."
* In one Red Jacket episode, Lupin wakes up to find himself stripped down to his boxers and chained to a wall in an auction house, with the auctioneer saying people can do whatever they want with him. Several men make a bid without stating what their intentions are.
* On November 27, 2020, TMS Entertainment's official Twitter page asked its followers if they shipped Lupin with Jigen or Zenigata. https://twitter.com/tmsanime/status/1332368590406762497
* In the crossover episode with Manga/TheRoseOfVersailles in Part II, Lupin looks quite interested in Oscar even before finding out she's a woman.

* Yatagarasu from Part 5 is Zenigata's new partner; he absolutely worships Zenigata and is very defensive of his reputation.

* In the Pink Jacket series, Jigen is reading a little something many fans consider to be an acknowledgement of him being canonically bisexual, namely a Play Bohz magazine with a beefcake man on the cover. This magazine makes a short cameo in the Part 5 series.
* In late Part 2 and all of Part 3, Goemon always chimes in when Jigen is snarking about Fujiko, and he refuses to look at naked or scantily dressed women.

* GottaShipEmAll: Many fans support this due to doujinshika not having any particular preference in pairings.
* WarShip: Not so much about who you ship Lupin or Jigen with, and more about who is top or bottom. Less prominent due to the rise in popularity of Seke over Seme or Uke.
