''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10594533/1/Son-of-Sparda-DxD Son of Sparda D×D]]'' is a {{crossover}} fanfic between ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' and ''Literature/HighSchoolDXD'' by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/4605067/DarkAkatsuk1 DarkAkatsuk1]] in which Dante gets sent to the ''D×D'' world as a teenager and does what he does best: kick ass, eat pizza, have a good strawberry sundae, and try to get out of debt.

The story now has a spin-off/{{prequel}} fic titled ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13490762/1/Dark-Slayer-DxD Dark Slayer D×D]]'', which is centered around Vergil and his rise to prominence in the ''D×D'' world.

[[folder:''Son of Sparda D×D'']]
* AcceptableBreaksFromCanon: Since this was made long before ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry5'' came out or was even announced for that matter, the story treats the timeline as if ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2'' comes after ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry4'', when canonically, it's the opposite. The author has acknowledged this, but is opting to keep the timeline the same as when he started due to the story already being heavily invested in it, making any alterations impossible without rewriting the story from scratch.
* BeyondTheImpossible: Dante tried wielding Excalibur, but it rejected him. He responded by pumping his own demonic energy into it and turned it into a pseudo-Devil Arm. Yes, Dante took one of the deadliest Holy swords in existence and ''turned it into a demonic weapon!''
* TheBlacksmith: Azazel helps Dante by forging new weapons for him to make up for his missing Devil Arms.
* CasualDangerDialogue: Amidst a large-scale demon invasion and while being attacked by Aconite, Dante and Gilver spend more time just having casual conversation (well, casual by their standards) and annoying each other than paying mind to the chaos around them.
* CombatSadomasochist: As seen in her fight with Issei, Nevan is heavily aroused by not only the pain of her victims, but her own pain as well. She even gets turned on ''by her own humiliation!''
* CompositeCharacter:
** Kokabiel and [[spoiler:Modeus]] are the same person here.
** Sir Bluehide has a priest version of [[spoiler:Vergil's]] ''DMC 3'' overcoat, but keeps his face wrapped in bandages like Gilver from the ''Devil May Cry'' novel.
* CoolSword: It doesn't get any cooler than Excalibur charged with Dante's demonic powers. There's also Bluehide's sword, which is actually [[spoiler:the true Yamato]].
* CrossoverRelatives: Of a sort. Raynare is [[spoiler:Kokabiel's]] daughter, and both of them are characters from ''Highschool D×D'', but in this story, [[spoiler:Kokabiel's true identity is Modius]], a ''Devil May Cry'' character.
* CurbStompBattle:
** 90% of Dante's fights are all really one-sided and never go well for his enemies. The only reason they last as long as they do is because 1.) he doesn't have any of his Devil Arms and 2.) because he's toying with them.
** Kokabiel only used about 1% of his full power when he fought Raynare. That was still ''far more'' than she could handle.
** Dante and [[spoiler:Vergil]] easily slay Aconite and treat the whole thing like a rude annoyance, spending more time in conversation than they do acknowledging Aconite.
** When Cerberus arrives in the ''D×D'' world, he hands the ORC their collective asses, and that wasn't even his strongest form.
** It's less accurate to call Issei's fight with Nevan a "fight" since he spends the entirety either getting beaten or running away to avoid getting beaten.
* DaddyIssues:
** Dante admits that there was a time when he hated his father for leaving his family and for being the source of his demonic blood before he was able to grow past that.
** Raynare has some '''massive''' father issues. After we see her interact with [[spoiler:Kokabiel]] for the first time in years, it's not hard to see why.
* DeathSeeker: This is actually Kokabiel's main drive. He wants to start the war and in doing so, unite the three factions against the demons and die being remembered as a monster for his atrocities.
* DepravedBisexual: Nevan, as she's completely unruly and electrocutes the other Devil Arms for no reason beyond her amusement. She's apparently slept around with several men and women while looking for Dante, not to mention her advances towards Issei manage to make him very uncomfortable.
* TheDreaded:
** Just meeting Great Red caused '''Dante''' to freak out! He even admits that the Dragon of Dragon's power is leagues beyond ''leagues'' greater than his own.
** Dante has this reputation in the Kabuki district where he lives and set up shop. As Rias and Sona learn, mention his name to anyone there, and they run away like their lives depend on it.
* FakeBoobs: Rias is accused of this by Dante. A contributing factor to Rias's hate towards Dante is that his first question to her was "So who was your surgeon?"
* {{Foil}}:
** Dante and Issei since both are grade-A perverts bearing demonic power. While Dante has lived with the supernatural his entire life, Issei is completely new to it. Dante's casual attitude gives off an air of incompetence that leads to him being underestimated, whereas Issei's early incompetence is much more genuine (generally, Dante's more of TheAce while Issei is more of a ClassicalAntiHero). Reflecting their perverted sides, Dante enjoys ogling women's butts, while Issei prefers breasts.
** Dante and Raynare. Both being half-breeds with more DaddyIssues than can be counted. Dante's been able to move past this problem while Raynare is just beginning to deal with them. While Dante actively rejected his father and his lineage, Raynare embraced her heritage in a desperate attempt to gain her father's approval. Also, Dante's father is long since dead and ended the war against the demons, where as Raynare's is alive and actively trying to restart a war.
* TheGadfly: Dante ''loves'' messing with people. He typically says and does things just to piss them off because their expressions amuse him. Often, the more no-nonsense a character is, the more fun he has doing it. Rias and Gilver/[[spoiler:Vergil]] are his favorite people to mess with.
* GagPenis: Raynare walks into Dante in the shower and is both shocked by and drawn to the size of his penis, which she calls his "middle leg".
* GreaterScopeVillain: [[spoiler:Mundus]], since he wants to return to the physical plane and bartered a deal with Kokabiel to set up an invasion.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Dante and Bluehide/[[spoiler:Vergil]], being demon/human hybrids.
* HazyFeelTurn: Raynare only switches to Dante's side because it was either that, or die horribly by the ORC's hands. Even then, she's not happy about it.
* IdenticalStranger: Nevan's new body in the [=DxD=] world apparently looks ''[[{{Pun}} shockingly]]'' like Rias, to the point where Issei is insulted that she would "steal" Rias' face...and breasts.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: In his fight with Katerea, Dante picks up a loaf of French bread and uses it as a freakin' sword. The kicker is that he uses it as efficiently and stylishly as he would use Rebellion.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Gabriel doesn't seem to have any real understanding on anything sexual or when it's appropriate, given that she ends up taking advice from three perverts without any knowledge on what the advice actually means.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Azazel, a several thousand year old fallen angel, becomes one of the hand-full of Dante's "normal" friends.
* {{Irony}}: Bluehide being the strongest Paladin of the Church is this once his true identity as [[spoiler:Vergil is revealed. The most powerful warrior of the Church is a ''half-demon'']].
* LargeHam: When Dante cuts loose, he can take large bites out of the scenery that give Creator/JimCarrey a run for his money. Him introducing his true identity to the ORC shows how over-the-top and bombastic he can get.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: After the crisis with Kokabiel is averted, it looks like [[spoiler:Vergil]] and Dante are about to have another fight. Before it can begin, Gabriel calls [[spoiler:Vergil]] back, and he leaves with Irina and Xenovia in tow. Kiba sums up the readers' likely thoughts regarding the AntiClimax in one sentence.
-->'''Kiba''': I ''can't'' be the only one feeling blue-balled here.
* LivingWeapon:
** All of Dante's Devil Arms qualify. They even talk with each other in Dante's armory and leave to find him when he disappears.
** Issei's Sacred Gear also counts since it bears the soul of the Welsh Dragon Emperor.
* MaleGaze:
** Dante and Issei of different variants. Dante stares at asses, while Issei stares at breasts.
** Though later according to Dante, while Issei loves breasts, Dante loves thighs. He considers it a "two-in-one" deal, because the thighs are connected to the ass.
* ModestRoyalty: Sirzechs is one of the four Great Satans in the D×D world (aka one of Hell's top dogs and rulers), but he's very casual and strikes up an easy conversation with Dante like it's nothing, even letting the Devil Hunter treat him as he would anyone else.
* MythologyGag:
** Dante hides his identity by using the alias "Tony Redgrave" from the ''Devil May Cry'' novel.
** [[spoiler:Vergil]] keeps his face covered in bandages, much like his Gilver identity from the novels. Just like the novels, [[spoiler:Gilver serves as his SecretIdentity]].
* NarniaTime: Dante, [[spoiler:Vergil, and Modeus]] were all from about the same time-frame, but they ended up in the ''D×D'' world at drastically different points due to the fluctuating flow of time between the two worlds. Dante ended up in the ''D×D'' world at roughly the start of the story, [[spoiler:Vergil]] wound up there eleven years prior to the start of the story, and [[spoiler:Modeus]] has been there for thousands of years.
* NonHumanHumanoidHybrid: It's later revealed that Raynare's father, [[spoiler:Kokabiel]], is in fact [[spoiler:Modeus, the demon apprentice of Sparda. This makes her a quarter-Fallen, a quarter-Demon, and half-Human (due to her human mother)]].
* NoSell:
** Dante asked Rias to fire the Power of Destruction on him to prove a point. He was completely unfazed, much to her shock.
** PlayedForLaughs. Kunou continuously launches fire blasts at Dante, which he doesn't even register. She then tries tearing into his neck with her teeth (which goes on for almost the entire chapter) to equally no effect.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: Ironically, despite being a major pervert himself, Dante was completely unaffected by Rias's looks when she first tried to recruit her for the ORC. He also thought her breasts were fake, thus starting her intense hate for him.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: There are a number of differences between the demons of ''Devil May Cry'' and the devils of ''D×D''. Demons are typically multi-millennia old monsters with mountain sized egos while devils are mostly young adolescents that behave no different than your typical human (albeit with looser morals). How they reincarnate humans into their own also differs, as demons require human sacrifice while devils just use their evil pieces, a chant, and the human becomes a devil without any hassle. Also, devils are rumored to be descendants of demons, who are stated to be primordial beings that predate all pantheons, and according to some rumors, are responsible for starting them.
* PerpetualPoverty: Despite the lucrative jobs Dante gets, he tends to blow away what money he gets as soon as he receives it, often being just on the precipice of eviction if his arguments with his landlady are anything to go by.
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Dante is aged down to a teenager when he gets sent to the D×D world.
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: {{Averted|Trope}}. The ''Devil May Cry'' powerhouses (Dante, [[spoiler:Vergil, and Modeus]]) '''far''' outstrip the ORC and most devils in terms of what they can do. Dante generally treats any opponent the ORC struggles with like a passing annoyance and the only reason his fights last as long as they do is because he's toying with them for shits and giggles. This even applies to the high-level demons when they arrive, as they are multi-millennia old monsters while the ORC are a bunch of teens who've barely scratched the surface of what they can do at this point. The only characters in the D×D world considered to be outright superior to them are Great Red and Ophis.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Azazel runs the Fallen Angels, but he's close friends with Dante and helps him by sending well-paying jobs his way that clear out stray devils in the area and helps make new weapons for him.
* RuleOfCool: Considering the source material, this is in full effect. This is also the ''only'' way to explain the sheer ridiculous awesomeness of Dante fighting Katerea Leviathan ''using a loaf of French bread as a sword!''
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Nevan when she first appears walks around topless and shows herself off to Issei to try and seduce him.
* ShesNotMyGirlfriend: Bluehide, aka [[spoiler:Vergil]], is very insistent that Gabriel is not his girlfriend, something Dante takes delight in teasing him about.
* ShoutOut:
** Quite a few to ''WebVideo/HellsingUltimateAbridged'':
*** Dante calls Dohnaseek "Dandy man".
*** In return for the priceless Gurren Lagann figurine, Dante wanted a 70 inch plasma-wide screen tv... with Netflix.
*** Dante also killed Viser by shooting her 37 times like Alucard shot the vampire priest in Episode 1.
*** Dante refuses to apologize for the ruckus Kiba professing his love for Issei caused like how Alucard refuses to apologize for all his sexual harassment.
*** Dante, when explaining his past and nature as a half-demon to the ORC, states that he has curveballs for days.
---->'''Akeno''': Curveballs for days?\
'''Dante''': Curveballs for days.
** When Rias finds out that Dante was using the STTGL figurine as a night light, her response is something like [[WebAnimation/RedVsBlue this:]]
---> '''Rias''': You mean... you mean to tell me that you have one of the rarest figurines known to otakuhood… one that could net thousands upon thousands of yen if sold in an auction... and you're using it as a nightlight?\
'''Dante''': ''(blinks a couple of times)'' …Well, when you say it like that, it sounds dumb.\
'''Rias''': That's because it is dumb!
** Later in the story, Dante tells Issei that he had a drunken affair with Yasaka in the past which made him PersonaNonGrata in Kyoto. Before the latter could ask, Dante tells him that she does have [[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail huge tracts of land]].
** This from the narration:
--->"[[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Ah, sweet summer child, unknowing of the pains of wint-]] [[LastSecondWordSwap reality.]]"
* SitcomArchNemesis: Dante and Rias are this. Dante never pays her too much attention and is generally tolerant of her. Rias meanwhile, tends to hate him for his annoying devil-may-care attitude toward almost everything and purchasing the rare, limited edition, glow-in-the-dark [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann]] figurine before she could.
* SleepsInTheNude:
** At one point, Dante ends up doing this due to losing all his clothes in a strip poker match.
** Rias, like canon, prefers to sleep like this. Dante catches a glimpse of her sleeping while flying past her window during his fight with Katerea, and he really enjoyed the sight.
* TheStoic: Dante mentally comments that Koneko has the type of poker face that could run an entire Casino bankrupt.
* StoryBreakerPower: Dante is pretty much this in the story. His healing abilities are ''insane'', his strength and power surpass all of the ORC (especially since it's set around the beginning of the D×D storyline) and he lacks all the weaknesses that devils of the D×D world possess. He doesn't really get very involved with the going-ons of the Occult Research Club unless he just happens to walk by or he has a more personal reason to do so. This slowly starts to become averted as the story goes on, where characters that can challenge and equal him (Kokabiel and Bluehide) are introduced.
* StraightGay: Kiba is led to believe he's in love with Issei, but the readers likely wouldn't know that if he didn't profess his love for him in front of the entire school.
* SuperEmpowering: Dante gives Rias a small portion of his demonic energy, which is enough to super-charge her attacks to ridiculous levels (and by that we mean "obliterate everything that isn't a high-level demon" levels).
* SuperForm: Dante lacks his Devil Trigger for most of the story due to not having any of his Devil Arms. After turning Excalibur into a pseudo-Devil Arm, he gains a pseudo-Devil Trigger to go along with it. It's not as powerful as the old one, but it works well enough.
* TookALevelInBadass: Back in ''Devil May Cry: The Animated Series'', Modeus went down against Dante ''very'' easily. Here, [[spoiler:as Kokabiel]], he actually goes toe-to-toe with an even more experienced Dante, and even forces him to activate his half-Devil Trigger to even the odds.
* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler:Vergil]] seems to have become a lot nicer since he became Sir Bluehide, as he no longer seems to have his lust for power and is actively fighting to protect the world and maintain the peace between the three factions. His relationship with [[spoiler:his brother]] has also become less antagonistic, having (mostly) moved past trying to kill him and settled more into a SitcomArchNemesis relationship of snarking at each other's expense.
* TookALevelInJerkass: There was actually a time when [[spoiler:Kokabiel]] was a good husband and father to his family. Years later, and he's a lot more callous and neglectful toward his child. He's also this to compared to his past as [[spoiler:Modeus, as he was a pacifist and {{friend to all children}}, but he now wants to start a war where countless will die and has no problem endangering the lives of the young]].
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: After his battle with Argosax the Chaos, Dante winds up in the D×D world aged down to 16. Despite this, he's not too concerned with getting back and is mostly just trying to live life and pay his bills. This also applies to [[spoiler:Vergil and Modeus]], both of whom have been there much longer than Dante has.
* UnderestimatingBadassery:
** No one's ever encountered someone quite like Dante, so people frequently do this, expecting the standard tactics used on stray devils, fallen angels, and humans to work just fine... boy where all of them in for a shock.
** After watching Issei fight and defeat Riser Phenex, Raynare lampshades how sorely she misjudged Issei's power.
* UnholyHolySword: Dante turns Excalibur into one. When the sword deems him unworthy, he just pumps some of his demonic power into it and transforms it into a false-Devil Arm.
* UnskilledButStrong:
** Issei starts out like this, being the bearer of the Boosted Gear yet having almost no combat experience.
** Rias has rather poor control over her abilities. Her entire life, she only ever used the Power of Destruction in the "shoot enemy, kill enemy" sort of way. It's noted by Dante that this is a very bad thing.
* TheVamp: Nevan tries seducing Issei when they first meet in Mission 5 and uses her powers to enthrall him. In a moment of sheer willpower, Issei manages to negate her influence.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Modeus]] wants to unite the three factions to bring about peace, but he's willing to start a brutal war to make it happen and become the monster they will unite against.
* TheWorfEffect: A retroactive case with Dante. He never fights any of the ORC, but when Cerberus and the rest of the Devil Arms (in their demon forms) arrive, the demon dog easily wipes the floor with all of them at once, even giving '''Serafall''' a hard time. Keep in mind, this is an enemy Dante easily defeated at eighteen, ''when he was canonically at his weakest''. That gives a good idea of how much stronger he is by comparison. Though it becomes rather muddled in that regard when Dante clarifies that Cerberus has gotten stronger over the years.
* WorldOfSnark: Almost every character has something snarky to say, from Dante and Rias trading barbs to damn near everything out of Raynare's mouth after her HazyFeelTurn. Really, snark and back-sass are among the most prominent forms of humor present in the story.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Dark Slayer D×D'']]
* ChildSoldiers: The institute of the Church that Vergil grows up in raises and trains children from an early age for combat. The Archbishop running the institute also suspects that Vergil was one before he arrived given how naturally talented and world-wise he already is.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Since Vergil is the main character, this is pretty much a given since he's Dante's opposite in all categories. Dante is goofy, over-the-top, and enters the ''D×D'' world in late adolescence via Great Red. Vergil is stoic, cold, apathetic, and enters this new world as a child following his death at Dante's hands.
* DramaticIrony: The Archbishop allows Vergil to read the institute's library archives despite it containing sensitive information because he believes that it will be too much for a child to understand. Of course, he doesn't know who Vergil really is and that he can understand everything just fine.
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: {{Inverted|Trope}}. For the story, Vergil is de-aged to a young child.
* {{Prequel}}: The story takes place long before ''Son of Sparda D×D'' and chronicles Vergil's rise to power within the world of ''Highschool D×D''.
* SavedByCanon: This being a prequel centered on Vergil, it's pretty unambiguous that he's not going to die anytime soon since he's alive and well [[spoiler:as Sir Gilver Bluehide]] by the time the story of ''Son of Sparda D×D'' rolls around.
