[[folder:Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug I]]

Once Marinette was the superheroine known as Ladybug, swinging through the air and saving Paris from the depredations of the evil Hawkmoth. Now, though, she's just Marinette, a normal girl with a normal life... in a city that is anything but normal.

----
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: PlayedWith, aiming primarily towards [[DeconstructionFic deconstruction]]: A number of people proved to be selfish {{Jerkass}}es, and contributed to the myriad pressures that led to Marinette's decision to quit. Their downfalls are possibly worth celebrating... but what of the rest of Paris? Marinette came to the conclusion that ''everybody'' deserves some karmic retribution - even her own parents earned some bad blood.
* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: Two years of slaving away as Ladybug for a completely ungrateful and entitled Paris has turned Marinette from an idealistic and kindhearted girl who just wants to stop a madman from unmaking reality and for people to respect her into an embittered, cynical, and selfish young woman [[spoiler:who is also a closeted {{yandere}} who won't hesitate to unmake reality rather than lose Luka]].
* BlamingTheVictim: Repeatedly blames all of Hawkmoth's victims for their own akumatizations, seeing them as weak for not resisting. In Xavier Ramier's case, she actually has a point. The only exception is Luka.
* CartesianKarma: Has convinced herself that everybody (except Luka, apparently) who got akumatized ''knowingly'' made a [[DealWithTheDevil deal with Hawkmoth]] through their inability to control their emotions, and repeatedly uses this to justify looking down upon them. This ranges from [[JustifiedTrope correct]] (Xavier Ramier's absolute refusal to seek mental help or show any remorse) to petty InsaneTrollLogic (Veronique's akumatization).
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: She is not only an example of the "Saltinette" [[FandomSpecificPlot/MiraculousLadybug Fandom-Specific Concept]], but by the time the story ends it's clear that she is a rare example of "Marinette Dupain-Cheng decides life's a bitch and so is she" [[spoiler:turning her into a full-blown VillainProtagonist and even being PlayedForHorror]].
* DissonantSerenity: ZigZagged; Her exact reaction to hearing the sob stories of the various people they encounter varies, but tends to involve some level of cheerfulness on her end as she 'reassures' them that everything will be fine.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Her generalized victim-blaming towards akuma victims is never shown to extend towards anyone she feels got akumatized over a genuinely awful situation (ex. her mother being falsely arrested or Luka witnessing his friends get plagiarized and screwed over by a corrupt producer).
** While it's implied that Marinette deliberately chose a SketchySuccessor to get back at Paris she wasn't so bitter that she chose someone who would screw over the whole world by being bad at the job of fighting Hawkmoth. This is why she's certain that she wouldn't have chosen Chloe or Lila as the new Ladybug; the former would be too lazy and entitled to fight Hawkmoth for long while the latter would almost certainly try to make a Wish for herself. The final chapter [[spoiler:subverts this when it's revealed that she chose Lila as the new Ladybug because she is ''[[SanitySlippage that]]'' full of spite and made a NoteToSelf as one of the titular two letters gloating about it, even asking her current self to please ask Lila to get especially nasty with Chloe. Even then, it also notes that she did keep the Cat Miraculous as insurance if Lila really did go rogue]].
* HatesTheirParent: Chapter 11 reveals she genuinely hates her own parents for what she sees as weakness in giving in to Hawkmoth, to the point of referring to them by their akuma names instead of their real names.
* IdealHero: Deconstructed. The endless pressure to be Paris' perfect hero, especially since her "teammates" weren't held to the same standard and Paris did nothing to help her against Hawkmoth, wore Marinette down to the point she couldn't take it anymore and retired. [[spoiler:Said pressure has also turned her into a borderline psychopath who is only being held back from using the Wish herself by Luka's influence on her, and if she ever loses him for any reason it's all over.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Marinette retired from being Ladybug shortly before the story begins, and her primary goal is to make sure her retirement sticks. [[spoiler:And she's willing to go to dangerous extremes to do so.]]
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Marinette's time as Ladybug has left her a traumatized wreck who deliberately passes Luka over for the position because she would never want to inflict that on him.
* JerkassHasAPoint: As bitter and resentful as she acts towards most of Paris, the fact is the reasons she gives for her generally hostile attitude are shown to be perfectly right. However, at the end of the day [[spoiler:the story falls on the side of "[[DeconstructedTrope too much Jerkass, not enough of a Point]]", especially with [[DisproportionateRetribution how bad the Jerkass has become]].]]
** While she is practicing CartesianKarma towards everybody that has been akumatized, including genuinely good people who had a MomentOfWeakness and even her own parents, she's not exactly wrong that it seems like no one is even trying to resist [[DealWithTheDevil dealing with Hawkmoth]] or even taking steps to try and avoid getting to the point that they'll be targeted at all. There are repeat offenders, like Xavier Ramier who refuses to do ''something'' besides just being akumatized as a way to deal with his issues, and several people have been akumatized over trivial and petty matters.
** While Marinette has NoSympathy for anyone who's been akumatized, not understanding just how [[MoreThanMindControl powerful and difficult to resist it is]], she correctly notes that numerous people have been akumatized over petty and trivial matters. Meanwhile, she had to constantly repress her own emotions, unable to express even the slightest bit of negativity over her struggles for fear of attracting Hawkmoth's attention.
** She's shown to be perfectly right that most of Paris were [[UngratefulBastard ungrateful]], [[EntitledBastard entitled]] and [[DudeWheresMyRespect disrespectful]] to her during her time as Ladybug. Nadja proves this point as she spent her first interview with the new Ladybug badmouthing the old one, tries to claim she was wrong to do so only to go on about how losing the Miraculouses meant that the old Ladybug ''deserved'' to lose support, all the while she firmly believes that the old Ladybug should return to help stop the new one on the grounds that she's a "hero" and heroes have to help no matter what they have to put up with.
** Marinette's refusal to help Alya clear her name is harsh, but she correctly points out that she endangered everyone by revealing that she was Rena Furtive to Nino. Marinette had kept her own secret identity hidden for a year and a half by that point, dealing with the damage this was doing to her social life and reputation; Alya caved and spilled her secret the moment she saw some strain with Nino.
** Though she cruelly insults Nino for all the times he got akumatized, she isn't wrong about how poor his emotional control is, or about how bad he is at keeping secrets.
** Refusing to help Alya while her life is falling apart is cruel, but she rightly notes that unfair things happen to people all the time, and that she can't be expected to fight every single injustice on their behalf. This was also ''exactly'' the kind of problem that led to her retirement in the first place: people getting into trouble and expecting her to help protect them from the consequences.
** As verbally hostile as she is towards Alix, she's completely correct and justified in utterly refusing to return to duty as Ladybug. It's made abundantly clear through the story's events that she was at the absolute end of her ability to cope, and pressing onward would almost certainly have completely destroyed her and handed Hawkmoth the win.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She lost all direct memories of being Ladybug and dealing with kwami, though she still retains memories from her civilian life, and she has vague feelings related to her heroic actions.
* MaliciousMisnaming: Repeatedly refers to previous victims of Hawkmoth by the names of their akumatized forms.
* ManipulativeBastard: [[spoiler:To Luka, Lila and Felix and, since the second letter lied about the Princess Justice incident, ''her own post-amnesia self.'' For Luka she's barely able to hide her disdain for Paris and the former akumas but is able to convince him that she will try to put it behind her and heal (while musing to herself that it's unlikely she ever will.) For Lila and Felix she not only outright threatens them at several points but also tricked them into thinking she got rid of the Black Cat Miraculous; she further tricks Luka into buying a disguised Cat Miraculous for her so she has complete deniability about having it... in case she needs to make the Wish if Luka ever stops being the "perfect boyfriend."]]
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Takes this attitude towards everyone who's been akumatized, with the apparent exception of Luka. [[spoiler: The final chapter even shows she calls people by their akuma names in her own mind and not just deliberately out loud because she's gone ''insane'' and the only reason Luka is an exception is because [[ItsAllAboutMe he got akumatized on her behalf.]]]]
* TheParanoiac: Repeatedly expresses concern that others will ''force'' her to become Ladybug again. Even Luka is not entirely spared from this, as she misconstrues a passing remark about how learning about historical Ladybugs "could be useful" as him hinting that he wants to act against the new Ladybug, which she's convinced will involve her being strongarmed back into service. [[spoiler:She even lures Bunnyx out and '''''destroys''''' her Miraculous to keep the status quo going and make sure nobody can ever go back and stop her from quitting.]]
* TheReliableOne: [[{{Deconstruction}} Deconstructed]]; Marinette strove to be dependable both as Ladybug and as Marinette, only to find that others took her efforts for granted. It felt as though everyone assumed she would ''always'' be there, always covering for their mistakes. This ultimately led to her burning out and deciding to quit, and fuels her fear of being forced back into that position.
* TheResenter: Over time, Marinette grew resentful of how it seemed as though nobody else was ''bothering'' to address the various issues Hawkmoth created, as well as how people kept getting akumatized for frivolous and petty reasons.
* SanitySlippage: Chapter 11 makes it clear that she had lost her mind due to the stress of being Ladybug and her decision to quit was motivated as much by her own insanity as it was resentment. [[spoiler:It is made clear that if anything goes wrong with Luka, she would use the wish to 'fix' it and she would view the destruction of the current world as a good thing]].
* ShellShockedVeteran: Marinette has clearly been deeply traumatized by her two years as Ladybug, to the point Luka compares her to a soldier retreating from battle because she's just too badly wounded to continue fighting.
* StoppedCaring:
** In the show, she cared deeply for her parents. In this story, though, it's clear she's still angry at them for getting akumatized over what she sees as stupid issues like 'Chat Noir won't date her' and 'Gina wants to buy her a motorcycle.'
** In the show, Marinette fought to save the Place des Vosges park. After retiring, she seems unperturbed and even darkly amused that it's being torn down for a monument to the new Ladybug.
* SweetTooth: As she [[LampshadeHanging tells Luka]] when he teases her about it, "you can't expect a baker not to have a little sweet tooth! Or even a big one!"
* ThisIsUnforgivable: As far as she's concerned, Alya's decision to let Nino know she was Rena Furtive was an utterly unforgivable act, as she ran the risk of leading Hawkmoth straight to her -- and through her, to Marinette.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Luka points out that she may be showing a bit ''too'' much glee at how the new Ladybug is tormenting other people. [[spoiler:TheReveal of how far she has gone to set up her revenge scheme and [[{{Yandere}} how much she loves Luka]] makes clear that [[SanitySlippage she has completely gone off the deep end]] and she is a VillainProtagonist]].
* UnreliableNarrator: Her perspective on things is skewed by her experiences and amnesia. [[spoiler:Chapter 11, which features the note she left for herself, reveals that she was also driven sincerely insane and that she also deliberately lied to herself that she was truly faultless, such as claiming that she was never almost akumatized into Princess Justice.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Luka Couffaine/Viperion]]

A kind and sensitive musician who receives some interesting mail from Marinette shortly before she renounces her position as Guardian. He is doing his best to care for and protect his girlfriend despite her trauma, amnesia, and resentment for those around her, but that's easier said than done in a city under the sway of a dangerous new heroine.

----
* CasualDangerDialogue: He is very chill when he talks to his mother about an akuma attack on the Champs-Elysees.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He is a very supporting boyfriend, but he still feels a little disturbed at [[TookALevelInJerkass the glee Marinette occasionally barely conceals about the situation]]. He is [[spoiler:also utterly horrified at discovering how many prior Ladybug holders were betrayed and killed]].
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Serves as one for Marinette, trying to reassure her that it's ''okay'' that she chose to prioritize herself over protecting Paris and help her navigate the emotional and psychological damage lingering from her years as Ladybug.
* LoveMakesYouStupid: {{Downplayed}}. Luka is not blind to the change in Marinette's personality and her continued bitterness towards former akuma victims, former friends, Paris as a whole and hell, pretty much everyone that is not Luka, but Marinette's feelings are justified enough that he only tries to help her heal and get back to a better state of mind. [[spoiler:He's not remotely okay with Marinette's decision to give the Ladybug Miraculous to Lila while knowing exactly what Lila would do with her new position, but still sides with Marinette because the latter is smart enough to not completely alienate him.]]
* MoralityChain: To Marinette. His love is the only thing keeping her even remotely mentally stable, and Chapter 11 reveals [[spoiler:she would take the Ladybug Miraculous back and use the Wish if he ever turned on her]].
* NotYourProblem: He tells Marinette not to worry about an akuma attack because there's a new hero to deal with it.
* OnlySaneMan: Luka is far and away the most level-headed member of the cast, trying to support Marinette through the pain she's going through while also being disturbed by some of her more vindictive moments.
* SecretKeeper: In her letter to him, Marinette confessed that she was Ladybug and that she desperately wanted out of that life. Luka keeps this information to himself.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Repeatedly reassures Marinette of this, along with reminding her that [[YouAreNotAlone she is not alone]] and doesn't need to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders anymore.
[[/folder]]

[[WMG:Current Miraculous holders]]
%%%Pretty much everyone in this section is a spoiler of some kind, so it's probably best not to include the real names in the folder titles
[[folder:Ladybug II]]

The current bearer of the Ladybug Miraculous. This heroine has done an excellent job of keeping the city free from akumas, but her motives could hardly be called altruistic.

----
* CorporateSponsoredSuperhero:
** Her uniform has commercial logos plastered across it.
** She also does a lot of endorsements and shilling, for herself (and projects connected to her/bearing her image) and for anyone who ponies up enough cash.
* EngineeredHeroics: {{Downplayed}}. According to Alya, her fight with Music Band-It involved her faking its difficulty.
* GirlOfTheWeek: GenderInvertedTrope; She's dated around a lot. Each of her beaus comes from a wealthy family, and they tend to only last a few weeks before breaking up.
* LovedByAll: Widely admired by all of Paris, despite the odd ''whispers'' here and there. This is part of what makes her so dangerous, as she's more than happy to ''weaponize'' her fans by pointing them in the direction of those she dislikes.
* NominalHero: Started off as a selfish woman who nevertheless genuinely opposed Hawkmoth out of a desire for fame and fortune. [[spoiler:Then she beat him, and her superhero career has turned into a MonsterProtectionRacket.]]
* PetTheDog: After having her identity exposed, [[spoiler:she allows Sass to visit Luka if she isn't in immediate need of his services]].
* PragmaticVillainy: While she clearly enjoys the fame, power and influence she's garnered, she's also being careful to avoid being too ''overtly'' evil so that she doesn't draw the wrong kind of attention to herself [[spoiler:or risk crossing a line that makes Marinette decide she's got to do something about her]].
* ProtectionRacket: She gets 'support' from the rich and powerful citizens of Paris, and while she's indicated she'll still fight akumas even if that support dries up, she's also made it very clear she has other ways of taking vengeance on anyone who refuses to pay her.
* TheReveal: Her true identity is [[spoiler:Lila Rossi. Marinette gave her the Earrings knowing she'd exploit them for her own benefit, and she is now running a MonsterProtectionRacket]].
* TruthTwister: Constantly twists anything to make herself look good, using every method possible to make her fanbase continue to support her. [[spoiler:It's one of the major clues that it's Lila behind the mask.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Despite being incredibly corrupt, she's still hailed as Paris' greatest heroine, and those who want to break away from her influence fear the wrath of her devoted flock of fans.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: After seemingly [[TakingTheBullet shielding Alya]] from one of Music Band-It's attacks, she acted as though she'd been severely injured, limping around in the aftermath and pleading with the public to be more careful around akuma attacks, and not get involved with them '[[SocialMediaBeforeReason just to get clips for social media]]'.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Chat Noir]]

Ladybug's partner. He still fights alongside her with his athleticism and his Cataclysm, but he seems to have changed a bit since Marinette retired.

----
* ActuallyADoombot: [[spoiler:He's actually a sentimonster created by Felix, though Felix occasionally takes his place using Trixx's illusion power.]]
* DoggedNiceGuy: Claims that he doesn't mind the new Ladybug dating around, as he remains convinced that so long as he remains loyal, she'll eventually see that they're meant to be together.
* LegacyCharacter: Not Adrien as he had the Ring taken away from him by Marinette.
* NotYourProblem: Mayor Bourgeois says that Chat Noir doesn't seem to care about the new Ladybug's grifting, though he's not sure why.
* TheReveal: His true identity is [[spoiler:a sentimonster created by Felix as part of a plan to get the police off his back for helping Hawkmoth by claiming that he himself is a sentimonster created by the "real Felix"]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hawkmoth]]

The tormentor of Paris. Or one of them, anyways.

----
* LegacyCharacter: Chapter 4 reveals that Gabriel Agreste died about three months after Marinette retired and three months before the present day. However, someone has taken up his mantle and is continuing to attack Paris. [[spoiler:This individual is Felix Fathom, as part of his and Lila's MonsterProtectionRacket.]]
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: It's indicated that the current Hawkmoth's akumas are performers, being showier and more theatrical than the originals.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bunnyx]]

Alix Kubdel, also known as the superheroine Bunnyx, was last reported to be traveling through time in an effort to keep her miraculous away from Hawkmoth. However, a recent spate of impossible rabbit sightings have raised the question of whether she's returned to the present time... and what her true objectives are.

----
* CallingCard: She seems to leave bunny-themed items from impossible times, like a digital photo of a rabbit taken before digital photography existed, on the scenes of her manipulations.
* TheChessmaster: Luka believes that Bunnyx is manipulating things to put him and Marinette on a collision course with the new Ladybug, both by spreading rumors that might make the new Ladybug want to oppose them while also arranging for Luka and Marinette to learn information which could spur them to take Ladybug on.
* HeroAntagonist: Trying to set things up to convince Marinette to oppose her successor and take back the role of Ladybug.
* OutGambitted: The story begins with a few clues that she is making moves to correct the bad situation in Paris. [[spoiler:We then are told in the second letter that Marinette gave Lila the Ladybug Miraculous partially as a BatmanGambit to draw Bunnyx to the present with the lure of an extremely bad situation, then disvested her of the Rabbit Miraculous and ''destroyed it'' to make damn sure that her revenge would not be stopped]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Avian God]]

The arrogant new holder of the Peacock Miraculous.

----
* MonsterProtectionRacket: With him being the monster in question, [[spoiler:Lila as Ladybug being the one doing the "I'll fight the monster for a price" part and Marinette as the one who organized and enabled it all]].
* TheResenter: Hates [[spoiler:his uncle Gabriel]] so much that he brags about how fun it was to send a sentimonster to destroy his funeral.
* TheReveal: His true identity is [[spoiler:Felix Fathom. He is using his sentimonster abilities to participate in Lila's MonsterProtectionRacket and lay the groundwork for his eventual return to society.]]
[[/folder]]

[[WMG:Former akumas (Marinette's former friends and classmates)]]
%%%Remaining classmates, in case it comes up: Kim Le Chien, Max Kante, Ivan Bruel, Mylene Haprele, Sabrina Raincompix, Nathaniel Kurtzburg

%%%Since the '/' character was used to designate miraculous identities, it's probably smart to use something else to designate akuma identities. I've set it as parenthesis for now.

[[folder:Adrien Agreste (Chat Blanc, Ephemeral)]]

The son of famous fashion designer Gabriel Agreste and the former holder of the Black Cat Miraculous, Adrien used to have everything going for him. A series of tragedies have shaken him to his core, but he hasn't given up hope of getting back at least some of what he lost--no matter what it takes.

----
* DissonantSerenity: He acts like he's very calm about most of his family dying and him losing his Miraculous, but Marinette thinks this is just a mask to bury his pain, anger, and knowledge that he was responsible for at least some of the problems in his life. Indeed, during their talk, his mask slips when Marinette calls him out on his behavior.
* FatalFlaw: Because Adrien only cares about getting what he wants and doesn't spare any thought to how others might be thinking or feeling, he was easily lured into a trap that [[spoiler:cost him his Ring]].
* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou: Given the timing of his {{Unrequited Love Switcheroo}}s, as he gave up on Ladybug just as she was succumbing to StockholmSyndrome and considering giving him a chance and began pursuing Marinette right after she'd abandoned her crush on him, he's accused of only caring about the ''challenge'' of getting a girl who doesn't like him to succumb to his charms. Adrien denies this; however, given the hints that [[spoiler:he ''still'' wants to make Marinette his even after their falling out]], this might be another truth he refuses to acknowledge.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** Treated his superhero life as an escape and didn't take his duties seriously, forcing his partner to take on all the stress and responsibility. Now the only thing he has in his life is the pursuit of justice against the woman his partner handed the reigns to when she quit.
** Marinette also sees the fact that he [[AccidentalMurder accidentally murdered]] his own father as this, given how carelessly he used his powers and how he brushed off her anger over his accidentally killing Aeon.
* ManipulativeBastard: Marinette firmly sees Adrien as this. She believes that he never truly loved her - that he was simply toying with her feelings and leading her on both as Chat Noir and Adrien, as when she finally decided to give him a chance as Ladybug, he lost interest in her and began pursuing her civilian self - just as she had given up on Adrien. Adrien states that this was simply a coincidence, but Marinette doesn't believe him.
* MoralMyopia: Is so self-absorbed that he seems practically incapable of considering anyone else's feelings. He complains about how Gabriel was spending more time to him due to how he was SecretlyDying, purely because he was DisappointedByTheMotive and wished he'd had some 'purer' reason for wanting to be with his son, and declares that Ladybug should have just accepted that he was no longer interested in her and "maturely" moved on after spending the better part of two years constantly harassing her and grousing over how ''horrible'' it was that she didn't return his feelings.
* SelfMadeOrphan: The Cataclysm he gave to Hawkmoth in "Destruction" is what ultimately does the latter in. Adrien is blissfully unaware of this, and Luka shudders at how he'd react if he found out.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alya Cesaire (Lady Wifi, Oblivio, Rena Rage)]]

A bright, inquisitive girl who once ran the Ladyblog and aided Marinette in her guises as Rena Rouge and Scarabella. But things have changed in Paris, and in Alya's case, they seem to have changed for the worse.

----
* ClearMyName: With her reputation trashed, Alya is desperate for others to help her accomplish this.
* ConvictedByPublicOpinion: Following the Music Band-It debacle, the new Ladybug's followers were whipped into a frenzy by the sight of their wounded heroine pleading for people to be more careful. Throw in a reminder about how her SecretIdentity was a matter of national security, and Alya was promptly labeled "Hawkmoth's sidekick", falsely accused of having tried to unmask Ladybug. The backlash forced her own parents to publicly denounce her in order to protect themselves, and the Cesaires were forced to move into a small, out of the way apartment after their address was leaked.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: Even after Marinette spells out for her just ''why'' she's so upset, Alya continues acting confused, then trying to downplay the severity of her mistake. [[NotHelpingYourCase This doesn't convince Marinette to change her mind.]]
* GoingForTheBigScoop: A key factor in her downfall; while trying to ferret out and expose all of the new Ladybug's secrets, she was lured into a trap which exploited her [[FatalFlaw impulsive, stubborn nature]]. Afterwards, practically all of Paris was convinced that she'd been trying to ''unmask'' their new heroine, exposing her SecretIdentity to the world -- and to Hawkmoth.
* LaserGuidedKarma: In Marinette's eyes, Alya's deepest betrayal of her was how she risked exposing her SecretIdentity as Ladybug through her carelessness. Alya is now [[HatedByAll despised by practically all of Paris]] because they believe she tried to unmask the ''new'' Ladybug for the sake of an 'exclusive scoop'.
* LooseLips: Marinette hoped that Alya would understand the importance of keeping their secret identities ''secret'' once she confided in her. While Alya didn't tell anyone that her 'best friend' was Ladybug, she let Nino know that she was still active as Rena Furtive, without considering how that could lead to not just ''her'' exposure, but Marinette as well.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Considered the new Ladybug to be incredibly suspicious from the start... because she was blindsided by Marinette's decision to retire, and refused to accept that it was voluntary. She also assumed the new Ladybug was responsible for Marinette avoiding her, missing (or ignoring) all the signs that her former friend wanted nothing more to do with her.
* TheoryTunnelvision: Tends to assume that whatever theory she's formed about what's ''really'' going on is the truth, and ignores/dismisses all evidence to the contrary.
* UncertainDoom: It takes seven chapters before it's revealed just how Alya 'self-destructed', with several hints laid down about how the Ladyblog has been 'archived' and her reputation ruined.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: She was Marinette's best friend, but her spilling her identity to Nino absolutely destroyed their friendship.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Chloe Bourgeois (Antibug, Queen Wasp, Miracle Queen, Banana Queen, Penalteam)]]

A spoiled brat who always wanted the best of everything. Luka wondered if the new Ladybug's greed and love of the spotlight might indicate that she and Chloe are one and the same.

----
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: {{Averted}}; Marinette dismisses the idea that Chloe ''wouldn't'' blackmail and bankrupt her father, as she's so self-centered that she'd do pretty much anything to get what she wants... other than work for it.
* MadeASlave: [[spoiler:Her fate after Lila takes over. She drops out of school to act as Lila's maid and spa attendant, and if she ever tries to leave, Lila will use her mob of fanatics to ruin her life.]]
* SpoiledBrat: Massively. Her father constantly caters to her every whim, though Marinette doubts that would keep her from throwing him under the bus.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kagami Tsurugi (Riposte, Oni-Chan, Lies)]]

A skilled fencer whom Luka thinks Marinette may have considered to be the new Ladybug.

----
* NiceGirl: Luka thinks Kagami is fundamentally a good person, and is surprised when Marinette implies she wouldn't have chosen her simply because of [[DisappointedByTheMotive how she got akumatized into Riposte]]. That being said, Marinette is also sure that Kagami would be too honorable to ever pull the grift that the current Ladybug is.
* LaResistance: According to Juleka, she is working to expose Ladybug's crimes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Juleka Couffaine (Reflekta)]]

A shy and moody classmate of Marinette's who thinks Paris has taken a turn for the worse since a new Ladybug took over.
----
* BigBrotherWorship: She deeply loves Luka and seems to want him to protect her because he's her big brother, even though he's only older than her by five minutes.
* DeliberatelyBadExample: Inverted, as she’s the only ''good'' example in a bunch of bad examples. Her presence in the story shows the reader that not everyone in Paris acted like an EntitledBastard towards Ladybug or dismissed her advice -- and subsequently shows how much Marinette's changed since she's lumping genuinely kind people in the same category as active jerks.
* DirtyCoward: She regards herself as this since she didn't join Kagami and Socqueline's new anti-Ladybug resistance.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: After overhearing Marinette refer to her as "Reflekta", Juleka is horrified at the idea she did something unforgivable to her while akumatized. She's right that Marinette resents her over something she did; what she doesn't know is that Marinette resents her because she was akumatized ''period''.

The "Junior Ambassador" in the Italian embassy, and also a notorious liar who twists the truth in order to accrue money and power. Luka sees some similarities between her and the new Ladybug.

----
* HarmlessVillain: {{Downplayed}}. Marinette believes that if she were the new Ladybug, she would have already made the Wish and destroyed the world. However, Marinette views her initial schtick of tall tales and lies to be so insignificant compared to the akumas that she stopped caring after a few weeks. [[spoiler:TheReveal that she is the new Ladybug [[NotSoHarmlessVillain makes clear that this assumption is wrong]], however it is zig-zagged with the information that Marinette threatened her into playing the role the way ''she'' wanted - that is, no conquering the world, buster]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: According to Marinette, Lila is so selfish that if she had the Earrings, she would have already stolen the Ring from Chat Noir and either made a Wish of her own or sold the Miraculouses to Hawkmoth. As far as she's concerned, the fact that the world still exists is proof-positive that Lila doesn't have the Earrings or access to the Ring. [[spoiler:Marinette is not only extremely wrong, she also manipulated Lila into taking the role, and one further step of her revenge scheme was making sure Lila did not get the Cat Miraculous… but the fact Marinette kept it is definitely not good, either]].
* VillainousVirtues: Marinette notes that Lila is clever and willing to work hard for what she wants, like when she exercised and dieted extensively in order to be a model.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nino Lahiffe (The Bubbler, Oblivio, Shell Shock, Rocketear)]]

Alya's boyfriend, at least until her life disintegrated.

----
* CrazyJealousGuy: Marinette derides him as such, pointing out that all it took for him to get akumatized into Rocketear was seeing Alya talking to Chat Noir and leaping to all the wrong conclusions.
* LongDistanceRelationship: He tried to make this work with Alya, but it didn't pan out.
* LooseLips: Even without the risk of getting akumatized, Nino wasn't very good at keeping secrets. Such as when he invited everyone he could find to join his 'secret society' against Hawkmoth, including Gabriel Agreste.
* StartingANewLife: His family moved him out of Paris so he could reinvent himself with people who didn't associate him with the widely despised Alya.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rose Lavillant (Princess Fragrance)]]

A romance-obsessed classmate of Marinette's.
----
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: An unsubstantiated and false rumor that Juleka was breaking up with her caused Rose to become completely distraught and run for cover while sobbing, to the point where Juleka expected her to get akumatized.

[[/folder]]

[[WMG:Former akumas (other Parisians)]]

[[folder:Andre Bourgeois (Malediktator)]]

Paris's corrupt mayor.

----
* AintTooProudToBeg: Frantically pleads with Luka and Marinette to help him contact the old Ladybug, admitting that he's ''desperate'' to figure out how to deal with the new one before he invokes her wrath.
* BadLiar: Tries to convince Luka and Marinette that he only wants to know who the original Ladybug was so he can thank her for her service and make sure retirement is treating her well. Even before they [[PullingTheThread pull the thread]], he's already babbled his way into exposing his ''true'' intentions.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He wanted a bribable Ladybug, and got one. The problem is, other people can bribe her too, so Bourgeois has to keep coming up with more and more money to keep her on his side. The other problem is, he's acutely aware that bad things could happen if he stops paying up.
* EntitledBastard: Wants to find the original Ladybug and have her replace the new one so they can return to the comfortable old status quo, while ignoring how ''un''comfortable that was for their old heroine.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Just as selfish and entitled as his daughter; perhaps the biggest difference is that he actually ''has'' the power that she regularly abused by invoking his name.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: Along with [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections connections]] that he frequently uses to 'grease the wheels'. Attempts to use these to convince Luka and/or Marinette to point him towards the original Ladybug.
* SkewedPriorities: Considered his various vanity projects and spoiling his daughter rotten to be ''infinitely'' more important than things like taking care of his constituents' concerns or putting any measures in place to help manage the problems caused by Hawkmoth and his akumas.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bob Roth (Moolak)]]

A record producer with a penchant towards ripping off rivals.

----
* BadBoss: Mistreated his employees; the one who ultimately helped bring him down was akumatized into Soundstealer after Roth withheld at least two months' worth of wages for seemingly no other reason than because he ''could''. [[spoiler:While they were an InventedIndividual completely constructed by Ladybug, said plan only worked because he regularly employed illegal immigrants and others he could exploit in just such a fashion.]]
* ConvictedByPublicOpinion: After he decided to no longer pay off Ladybug, she continued to protect him during an akuma attack... but then publicly stated that he didn't support her. The outraged public began to hate him, his musicians canceled their contracts, his business collapsed, and his life was completely destroyed.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Not wanting to pay into the new Ladybug's ProtectionRacket was understandable. His refusal to pay his own workers, less so. Both of these factors contributed to his downfall, as Ladybug took advantage of the latter to make a show of saving him right before casually remarking on his lack of support for her.
* StartingANewLife: According to the Mayor, rumor has it that he and his son were forced to spend most of their family's remaining fortune crafting new identities for themselves so they could do this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gabriel Agreste (The Collector)]]

A reclusive fashion designer with some very dark secrets.

----
* BodyHorror: Was falling apart so badly by the time of his death that his shirt sleeve would have collapsed his arm if the funeral directors didn't put cork bark into it.
* TheFunInFuneral: Not only was his funeral crashed by Gigantitan, who shattered his coffin and left his body soaking in the mud while Ladybug sparred against the akumatized infant, his corpse was later possessed by a sentimonster to become first of the 'new wave' of akuma.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Gabriel exploited countless victims' [[MomentOfWeakness moments of weakness]] to akumatize them, and did not care about any of the pain, suffering and loss he inflicted during his reign as Hawkmoth. Not only did this eventually cost him his life, he suffered several indignities in death much like the ones he forced upon others.
* PosthumousCharacter: The fourth chapter indicates that he died about halfway between Ladybug's retirement and the present day.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: "Gorilla" (Gorizilla)]]

Adrien's bodyguard, and the only remaining adult in his house after Gabriel and Nathalie meet their fates. He's trying to care for Adrien but is clearly out of his depth.

----
* RealMenCook: He's a muscular bodyguard who is trying to take care of Adrien's meals, though with mixed success.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Jalil Kubdel (Pharaoh)]]

A conspiracy theorist.

----
* ConspiracyTheorist: He believes ridiculous lies about the original Ladybug because he trusts trolls on the Internet, and helps spread that MaliciousSlander as [=LadybugSkeptic9000=].
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: {{Downplayed}}; Marinette makes clear that while she's concerned about Mr. Kubdel's disappearance, she's not particularly bothered by the fact that Jalil vanished at the same time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nadja Chamack (Prime Queen)]]

A news reporter who seems to have taken over the city's 'Ladybug beat' after the Ladyblog went down in flames.

----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Nadja wanted to hound the heroes for details about their personal lives, and [[NeverMyFault blamed Ladybug]] for rejecting her prying, leading line of questioning. Now she has a Ladybug who gladly gossips about herself every single day, at the cost of her reputation.
* EntitledBitch: Insists that the original Ladybug would have to help her simply because "she's a hero", despite how much she disrespected her before.
* LaserGuidedKarma: When she interviewed Marinette, all she cared about was ratings, to the point where she asked invasive and offensive questions that drove Marinette away. The new Ladybug, on the other hand, is great for ratings... but only by virtue of showing off a string of hot boyfriends and exploiting her fans' fanatical devotion to her. Nadja can't do any real news reports on the new Ladybug for fear of the new hero going to some other station and taking her ratings with her, and she can't get a job elsewhere because nobody else trusts her to do real news anymore, so she's forced to spend every day nodding along with Ladybug's vacuous gossip and shilling her products while the real stories she knows go untold.
* NotHelpingYourCase: When called out on how she insulted the original Ladybug, Nadja tries to handwave that away before adding that she ''deserved'' to be badmouthed and lose support. Note that she's saying all of this while still insisting that the old Ladybug has to come back and help her because "she's a hero".
* {{Paparazzi}}: Conducted herself like one while dealing with the original Ladybug, acting entitled to 'juicy details' about her private life. She also contributed to the media voices criticizing her, picking apart every mistake she made.
* PropagandaMachine: Has unwillingly become part of the new Ladybug's propaganda machine, as her superiors don't want to risk losing favor.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nathalie Sancoeur (Catalyst, Safari)]]

Gabriel's assistant, companion, and partner in crime. She sacrificed her health helping Gabriel to pursue his dream, but that was only the beginning of her losses.

----
* PosthumousCharacter: She's dead, and according to Adrien, her death was even more horrific than Gabriel's.
* SenselessSacrifice: She died for Gabriel's mad campaign to save his wife, but ultimately said death accomplished nothing.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theo Barbot (Copycat)]]

A talented sculptor who fervently hoped for Ladybug to take an interest in him. He got what he wished for, in the worst way possible.

----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Barbot wanted the original Ladybug to be interested in him and was very upset when she didn't, going so far as to get akumatized under the belief that he could just take Chat Noir's place to get Ladybug's affections. After the new Ladybug took over, Theo got the job of carving several sculptures of her, and he knew she'd pay close attention... because she'd want to know if his art didn't 'flatter' her enough so she could then destroy his life.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tom Dupain (Weredad) and Sabine Cheng (Qilin)]]

Marinette's parents. They love her. Her feelings towards them are more complicated.

----
* DotingParent: Both are clearly trying hard to support and love their daughter.
* MisplacedRetribution: On the receiving end of this. Marinette still resents the way both got akumatized for [[DisappointedByTheMotive petty reasons]]. Luka notes that ''resisting'' akumatization [[MoreThanMindControl isn't easy]], and that it's not something [[VillainPossessedBystander they willingly chose]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Veronique (Manipula)]]

A museum curator who's moving up in the world, for better and for worse.

----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She flipped out when Bourgeois shut down her previous exhibit on the Miraculous heroes. Now she gets to run such an exhibit like she said she wanted, but thanks to the new Ladybug, she has no actual control over it.
* NiceGirl: Luka notes that it's wrong for Marinette to scare her or even be mad at her over her one akumatization, which was done for a sympathetic reason and which doesn't change her fundamentally decent nature.
[[/folder]]

[[WMG:Other]]

[[folder:Felix Fathom]]

Adrien's cousin who cut a deal with Hawkmoth, only to find multiple governments seeking his arrest. This may have pushed him to take... drastic actions.
----
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His aiding Hawkmoth backfired on him tremendously, as he managed to get himself very high up on Interpol's shitlist. [[spoiler:Felix's current goal is to use sentimonsters in a convoluted gambit to worm his way out of the grave he foolishly dug for himself by passing himself off as one.]]
* FakingTheDead: Adrien thinks he is doing this, though there doesn't seem to be any evidence of it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Socqueline Wang]]

A former friend of Marinette's who is dating Kagami, and who has a dangerous secret.
----
* LaResistance: According to Juleka, Socqueline is trying to be heroic by participating in Kagami's anti-Ladybug resistance.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Su-Han]]

A member of the Order of the Miraculous who wants to address the problems of Paris, but whose methods may be questionable.
----
* AntiMentor: Seen as such by Marinette and Luka, who have little faith that his mentorship of Adrien is going to help deal with the new Ladybug.
* JurisdictionFriction: According to Adrien, the Guardians cannot extradite the new Ladybug because they don't have enough evidence on her. They intend to circumvent this problem by having Adrien fight her and take her Miraculous by force.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: According to Adrien, Su-Han wants him to fight Ladybug, and there's no sign Su-Han wishes to participate in the battle himself.
* MentorArchetype: He is training Adrien in the ways of Mirakung Fu.
