!! Ash Ketchum
The main protagonist of Traveler
----
* TheAce: Ash is one of, if not the most, skilled Pokemon Trainers of his generation. He's an incredibly accomplished trainer with an incredibly powerful team, and most of his losses are due to fights with people far beyond his current level of skill. Furthermore, his accomplishments earn him quite a bit of respect from those who know of them.
** It becomes even more obvious when, a few months after the Indigo Conference, Ash takes on Gary and Jonathan at the same time and wins.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: While Ash in canon is an energetic, passionate boy who dreams of being the greatest Pokemon Master who ever lived, [[ChildSoldier Traveler Ash]] is a quiet, traumatized young man who still dreams of being a Master, but is more mature, humble, and sensible.
* TheApprentice: [[spoiler:To Lance and to Steven. While it's technically so he can one day enter the Elite Four, the unspoken truth is that Lance is training him to one day succeed him as Champion]].
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Currently the youngest Elite Four trainee in history and one of the youngest members of the League.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: When sent on a mission to deal with rampant ghost types in the Arid Zone, Ash fantasizes about fighting incredibly powerful ghosts, like a Palossand so large that it could manipulate the entire desert. The actual battle is against a [[spoiler:Spiritomb]], which very nearly kills his entire team by pushing them over the DespairEventHorizon and leaves him just a little more traumatized.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Upon discovering Silver is Giovanni's son, he feels responsible for the boy's wellbeing and starts searching for him.
* BloodKnight: Ash loves Pokemon battling, and often has to rein in his impulses in the heat of battle with his more analytical side.
* BornWinner: It's vaguely implied that this is partially why Ash is so talented. His extensive knowledge of Pokémon and their abilities came from his mother, who was a student of Professor Oak's and a Pokémon researcher, while his inborn battling instincts came from his father, [[spoiler:who, prior to his identity as Team Rocket's leader being exposed, was the strongest gym leader of the Kanto League]].
* BreathWeapon: [[spoiler:During the events at [[Anime/Pokemon3 Greenfield]], Ash uses the powers of Moltres and Articuno to ''breathe fire'' onto a crystal clone of himself while protecting himself from the heat]].
* BrokenPedestal: Although Jacquline Durand was a criminal by all means, Ash held a good amount of respect for the rogue master on account of how they both love their Pokemon teams like brothers and sisters. Until on the very first day of year 1000 PIL, [[spoiler: when Durand apparently attacked and destroyed the Sylph Co. lab at Rustboro, indirectly killing a large amount of underdeveloped Pokemon, including the baby Anorith Ash was going to receive.]] Needless to say, [[PapaWolf Ash]] now considers Durand nothing more than an enemy.
* CelebCrush: Ash develops a crush on Cynthia after meeting her.
* ChallengeSeeker: Oh so much. When offered the chance, Ash is eager to battle anyone who will make him work, or even struggle, for a win. After gaining his eighth badge, Ash goes on another tour of the Kanto gyms so he can challenge each gym leader's real team. Perhaps most notably, Ash is initially annoyed when Cynthia claims she has something more important to talk about than Aura, considering it could help him survive, Ash thinks nothing could be more important. But once she challenges him to a battle, Ash agrees that a battle ''is'' more important. After losing the match, Ash is more motivated than ever with a new goal to beat Cynthia.
* ChildProdigy: Almost certainly. [[spoiler:In his very first conference, he made runner-up -- that's completely unheard of, as that meant he had beaten several trainers who had years of experience over him and had faced several League Conferences of their own. Even if most League personnel weren't familiar with his exploits, that feat alone would've been enough to catch their eye. With that familiarity, he was apprenticed to Lance and is now on the fast track to the Elite Four]]. Considering everything that he's accomplished on his journey, Ash is quite possibly the most talented trainer of his generation, bar none.
* ChildSoldier: While he doesn't see it that way, Ash IS a child who's been sent into life threatening situations multiple times. The fact he almost dies fighting Team Rocket in Hoenn gives Steven a wake up call to this fact as he realizes he deliberately brought a 12 year old boy into a potential life or death battle.
* CoincidenceMagnet: For the vast majority of people meeting a League Champion, or encountering a Legendary Pokémon is a once in a lifetime event. For Ash it might as well be Tuesday.
** Lampshaded later when Johnathan complains that Ash would have found himself a Master to train under every other day, when he hasn't had any luck in almost a month.
* CoveredInScars: Between multiple scars on his face, chest, and arms, Ash is heavily scarred considering he's only been a trainer for slightly over a year.
* DeadpanSnarker: Ash has his moments, such as replying to Lance's question of how many people can say they battled a Legendary by pointing out most people have enough sense not to try.
* {{Determinator}}: Ash's biggest defining trait is his unwillingness to give up. It doesn't matter if he's facing a powerful trainer, [[PhysicalGod Legendary Pokemon]], or TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, he'll keep going until he succeeds. Even when faced with the embodiments of the Legendary Birds' powers, Ash manages to overcome and avoid being assimilated/possessed.
* DontCallMeSir: Even after joining the League, Ash is noticeably uncomfortable being called "sir", especially by people older than him. Even worse is when people call him by his official title of [[spoiler:Elite Four Ketchum]].
* DreadfulMusician: Ash's attempts to play Lugia's flute, barring the sole tune he has memorized, is bad enough that several trainers thought a Pokemon was being tortured.
* FamedInStory: By the end of the Indigo Conference, Ash is famous pretty much worldwide, not only due to coming in second place, but also due to being the first rookie ''ever'' to even reach the semifinals, let alone the finals. During his time in Ecruteak, Ash's mere presence makes regional news.
** In chapter 55, Ash acknowledges that he's become famous enough for people to make battle plans specifically to counter his team.
* FantasticallyIndifferent: By the time Ash meets a talking Slowking, he's seen ''far'' too much to feel much surprise, let alone awe, over it.
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: Narrowly averted. [[spoiler:Ash briefly manages to See the truth of Suicune's nature and the knowledge he obtains about both Suicune and reality itself almost drives him insane, if not for the intervention of Suicune himself]].
* HasAType: PlayedForLaughs, when Lance hears about Ash's CelebCrush on Cynthia, he laments that he got him a swimsuit calendar of brunettes rather than blondes and promises to rectify it.
* HeroicWillpower: When threatened by Daisy's Gardevoir, Ash easily throws off her psychic link, outright demanding if that's all the power she has.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: While meeting the Eruption, Ash calls on Fire to withstand the immense heat. Unfortunately, doing so ''terrifies'' the colossal Torkoal and nearly ruins the meeting entirely.
* {{Hypocrite}}: PlayedForLaughs. Ash is initially horrified upon seeing the Domino brought a ''boy'' no older than eleven into a battlefield, Dazed subtly points out that said scenario is exactly what Ash had experienced before.
* LaughingMad: Ash suffers a moment of this after [[spoiler:Seeing the truth of Suicune's nature and comprehending how insignificant they both are]].
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:Mewtwo reveals to him that he is Giovanni's son, which was eventually confirmed by Professor Oak and then Delia herself]].
* MoralityChain: Ash is pretty much the only thing keeping Infernus from going on a rampage.
* MundaneUtility: [[spoiler:Ash regularly uses the Concepts imbued him for simple things like using Ice and Fire to adjust his temperature or using Lightning to make himself more alert.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Upon accidentally triggering the evolution of the ancient Rhydon, who'd been so determined not to evolve that it embedded ''five'' everstones in it's chest, Ash almost throws up, thinking of it as "the Rhydon that should have stayed a Rhydon". Thankfully, it prevents said evolution through sheer willpower.
* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction: Ash is shown to strongly dislike battling weak trainers due to the lack of challenge.
** During their rematch, he's openly annoyed at how easy it is to beat Erika's Venusaur.
* NoMrBondIExpectYouToDine: A heroic example. In order to get Silver to open up and listen to him, Ash treats him to lunch at a high-end restaurant.
* NotSoStoic:
** Over the course of the story, Ash grows quieter and more stoic but a match against a strong trainer, especially famous ones like Cynthia, brings out his former HotBlooded status.
** Every so often, Ash's status as a ShellShockedVeteran comes to the fore when something causes him to just completely break down, such as [[spoiler:climbing over hundreds of corpses in Jirachi's tomb]].
* PowerTattoo: Yes and no. While it's not a tattoo, the Feather of Moltres, [[spoiler: which gives him the ability to command/breathe fire,]] folds into his skin, giving the appearance of a feather tattoo.
* PsychicBlockDefense: After all the times Ash has been near Legendaries, it's dangerous for psychics to get too near him. Weaker psychics often can't even be in his presence as they'll attempt to touch his mind and be knocked unconscious.
* TheQuietOne: Over the course of his journey, Ash goes from somewhat talkative to barely speaking at all outside of battles. It really becomes noticeable after he stops traveling with Jonathan and Amelia.
** Upon reaching Fuchsia City's gym, Ash is clearly uncomfortable making small talk with Janine after spending three weeks in the wilderness with only his Pokémon for company.
** Delia brings up this during her rant against Lance for making Ash into a ChildSoldier.
* RageBreakingPoint: While he has lots of problems with Golduck, Ash remains hopeful that they can work together. But when Golduck fires a full force Water Gun at him (which would be fatal for humans) and badly injures Seeker, Ash declares he'll never use Golduck again and has his Pokeball sent to Seafoam Islands to be released into the wild there.
* RedBaron: Acquires many titles during his travels
** During his stint in Kanto, Ash starts getting called the "Prodigy of Pallet" for his actions, which cements itself after he is crowned runner-up in the Indigo League.
** After the events on [[Anime/Pokemon2000 Shamouti Island]], psychic pokémon start calling Ash "Storm-Tamer".
* RespectedByTheRespected: By the time he visits Hoenn and Johto, most gym leaders are at least respectful of Ash, with a few in outright awe, such as Tate and Liza.
* RuggedScar: While the burns on his arms technically count, it's the more visible scar on Ash's cheek that really marks him as a badass.
* ScarsAreForever:
** After his encounter with Moltres, Ash's forearms have permanent burn scars from its flames along with damage to his lungs and throat from the smoke and gases. Even months later, Ash has difficulty shouting due to the damage.
** He gains another scar, this time on his cheek, from [[Anime/Pokemon2000 Shamouti Island]] when a piece of ice cuts him all the way to the bone. This one actually causes some problems since, as far as anyone knows, he went from having an unmarked face to a long healed scar in a single day.
** An encounter with Team Rocket that left his armor heavily damaged also badly cut up his face, which Ash notes will scar as well.
* ShellShockedVeteran: According to Delia, Ash has become prone to staring off into space for prolonged periods, waking up in a cold sweat during the night, and training to the exclusion of everything else.
* SoulJar: [[spoiler: Houses a piece of Mewtwo’s consciousness, which lets them communicate with each other and can even let Ash draw energy from Mewtwo to empower other Psychic Types.]]
* StrangerInAFamiliarLand: When he returns to Pallet Town after getting his sixth badge, Ash notes his hometown feels as unfamiliar to him as any of the cities he's visited.
* ToBeAMaster: More so than canon, Ash wants to become ever stronger, comparing his need to grow stronger like his need to breathe. Tellingly, Ash has no hobbies beyond training and rarely spends his large amounts of money on anything but [=TMs=] to strengthen his Pokémon.
* TouchedByVorlons: Ash has been "branded" by no less than half a dozen Legendary Pokémon, something that makes him not only difficult but [[PokeInTheThirdEye often dangerous]] for weaker psychics to read.
** [[spoiler:Eventually he starts to experiment with these connections, developing the ability to resist and even begin to manipulate the elements that have touched him.]]
* TranquilFury: Upon seeing the (Fake) [[Anime/Pokemon3 Entei]] has kidnapped his mother, Ash's sole order to his Pokémon is a quietly furious "Kill Entei".
* WhatTheHellHero:
** He's less than happy with Steven for sending him on a mission to the Arid Zone and not warning him about the monolith there which used to contain [[spoiler:a Regirock]] and ''still'' contains an extremely powerful Spiritomb.
** A humorous example; While exploring Mt. Pyre with Phoebe, she offhandedly tells Ash that he's been invited to face Champion Wallace in three days. Ash is less than amused when he realizes Steven knew about this event and didn't tell him.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Ever since a Team Rocket Ariados was exploded all over his face, Ash has a mild phobia of the Pokémon, having to fight the urge to retch whenever he sees Jonathan's.
* WorthyOpponent: Ash has great respect for the gym leaders and (barring Erika) enjoys fighting them in rematches. After his second match with Erika, Ash agreed with her that he probably wouldn't bother doing so again. Likewise, the gym leaders all enjoy battling Ash and almost all of them invite him back for a rematch whenever he wants.
* WowingCthulhu: Ash managed to impress Mewtwo multiple times both during the events on New Island and afterwards, not that the Legendary would ever admit it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nidoking]]

!! Nidoking
(Nidoran-Nidorino-Nidoking)

Ash's starter Pokémon given to him by Professor Oak. Nidoking's ability is Poison Point, which can poison pokemon that make physical contact.
----
* AffectionateNickname: He refers to Ash as his King.
* ConfusionFu: Nidoking has one of the largest movepools of Ash's Pokemon, including Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Megahorn, Shadow Ball, Earthquake, Earth Power, etc. It makes it difficult to predict what his next move in a battle will be.
* DishingOutDirt: Nidoking gains ground typing after evolving. In particular, Nidoking likes to creatively use Earth Power to open up a crevice below him to drop into, allowing him to travel underground and avoid attacks.
* FireIceLightning: Nidoking's [[CombinationAttack Triad Attack]] uses Flamethrower, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt back to back to hammer his enemy.
* HateAtFirstSight: Nidoking takes a very long time to even slightly warm up to Oz, due to her trying to kill Ash before being captured.
* JackOfAllStats: In regards to the team, Nidoking serves this role. He isn't as absurdly strong and durable as Infernus, doesn't have immense strength behind him like Torrent, and isn't nearly as skilled with his own elemental powers as Dazed. However, he's durable enough to weather most attacks, fairly skilled with earth manipulation, reasonably physically strong, and has a wide enough move pool that he can counter most Pokemon he fights.
* PoisonousPerson: Nidoking's body is covered in poisonous barbs during battle, and his favorite method of injecting it in battle is to ram an opponent with his horn.
* StarterMon: One of the story's primary divergent points is Nidoking, then a Nidoran, being given to Ash as his starter instead of his canon Pikachu.
* UndyingLoyalty: Out of all of Ash's Pokémon, Nidoking is certainly the most loyal. When Ash [[spoiler: is killed on New Island]] Nidoking rushes the one responsible and swears revenge on a [[spoiler: [[PhysicalGod Legendary Pokémon]]]]. Additionally, Nidoking is insanely overprotective of Ash and is almost always at his side. After [[spoiler: New Island]], Nidoking has to be told to leave his side.
** While Ash is unconscious for two days following the events at [[Anime/Pokemon3 Greenfield]], Nidoking refuses to leave his side and has to be forced by the others to eat.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Plume]]

!! Plume
(Pidgey-Pidgeotto-Pidgeot)

Ash's second pokemon who he caught on his way to Pewter City. Her ability, Keen Eye, keeps her accuracy from being lowered.
----
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Plume likes to affectionately nip Ash's hat. Though after fully evolving, she's strong enough that she damages his hat when doing so.
* AscendedExtra: In comparison to her canon counterpart, who was on a LongBusTrip from the ending of the Indigo League Conference until [[BackForTheFinale returning on Ash's last episode as the main protagonist]], Plume is a regular fixture of Ash's team in this story.
* AttackReflector: Plume used Mirror Move against Pete Pebbleman's Arcanine and Steven's Metagross to deflect their Hyper Beam and Flash Cannon respectively back at them.
* FlyingFirepower: Thanks to [[EnergyWeapon Hyper Beam]] and [[BlowYouAway Hurricane]], Plume is quite capable of taking out an opponent from well beyond their reach.
** [[spoiler: In the battle with Durand, Plume finally manages to combine degraded versions of Suicune's purifying abilities, and Lugia's Aeroblast into a single technique.]]
* FragileSpeedster: Plume is by far Ash's fastest Pokémon. However, as a bird she's considerably more fragile than any of them, barring the still young Sneasel.
* LogicalWeakness: As a raptor, she has absolutely amazing day vision, making her invaluable as a scout. However, as a ''diurnal'' raptor, her night vision leaves a lot to be desired. Ash notes she actually can see less on the ground at night than he can because, though her night vision isn't much worse, she's so high up that she can't make out any details.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Plume has respectable power, and is a fair bit stronger than most Pokemon. Unfortunately, she's relatively fragile compared to the rest of the team, and doesn't have the insane levels of firepower like Infernus or Torrent. This was remedied slightly with Super Speed, but she's still a bit behind the rest of the team.
* ParrotPetPosition: Until fully evolving to Pidgeot, she was rather fond of perching on Ash's shoulder. Now she's both too large and too heavy to do so.
* RazorWind: Plume is capable of using Air Slash. It's noted to be strong enough to cut trees in half.
* SuperSpeed: One of the combo moves Ash invented for Plume is explicitly named this. It's a combination of Agility, Quick Attack, and Tailwind, and while using it, Plume is so ridiculously fast that she's barely visible as a blur in the sky.
* TokenFlyer: She's Ash's sole flying type, and thus is used by him whenever aerial transportation is needed.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Torrent]]

!! Torrent
(Horsea-Seadra-Kingdra)

Ash's third pokémon who he caught near Cerulean City and one of the most powerful members of his team. His ability is Swift Swim, which allows him to move faster in water and rain.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Refers to Ash as his Monarch.
* AttackAttackAttack: A notable flaw of Torrent's is a lack of any support moves. Ash eventually takes steps to rectify this, noting Torrent's trouble dealing with powerful enemy attacks.
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: His evolution to a Kingdra is met with reverence and awe by nearly every Pokémon on Oak's ranch.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** He evolves to a Seadra to save Ash from the sinking S.S. Anne.
** Again during the events of Movie 1, breaking out of his ball after the ship Ash was on is sunk and transporting him to New Island.
* MakingASplash: As a Water-type, Torrent is naturally capable of this and is currently further honing the ability to make up for his lack of defense and to increase his versatility with help from Ash [[spoiler:and Suicune]].
* MundaneUtility: Occasionally if Ash isn't near a river or a Pokémon Center, he'll have Torrent spray him with water to clean off.
* PowerFloats: After evolving into a Kingdra, Torrent can use his power to levitate himself, which has the bonus of allowing him to battle even without bodies of water nearby.
* RedOniBlueOni: Fittingly, the blue to Infernus' red.
* TheRival: Due to both having the most raw power of Ash's team, Torrent and Infernus tend to see each other as rivals and preferred sparring partners.
* TornadoMove: Ice Storm is a combination of Blizzard and Twister that creates a massive tornado filled with chunks of ice to pulverize an enemy.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dazed]]

!! Dazed
(Drowzee-Hypno)

Ash's fourth pokémon who he caught near Vermillion City. Her ability, Insomnia, makes her immune to hypnosis and renders her unable to ever sleep. Not that she ever needs to.
----
* CharacterDevelopment: Dazed goes from hating Ash for catching her, to tolerating him, and to caring about him deeply.
** She later calls him "Friend-Trainer" instead of "Trainer-Friend," implying that she sees him more as a friend than just a trainer.
* DeadpanSnarker: Emphasis on deadpan, but Dazed always has a weary remark ready for some of her more eccentric teammates. Most often it's either Infernus or Weavile.
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: Her Multiball attack fires several weak Shadow Balls at her opponent rapidly, each doing less damage than a regular one.
* EatingOptional: Sort of. Rather than food, Dazed eats dreams, with human dreams being more nourishing than Pokémon ones, to such an extent that the rest of the team's dreams aren't as nourishing as Ash's alone.
* MundaneUtility: She's the reason Ash hasn't had nightmares about everything he's been through, as she eats his dreams.
* TheNicknamer: She refers to pretty much everyone with a nickname rather than an actual name. Examples include Trainer-Friend for Ash, the Caretaker for Bruiser, and the Brute for Infernus.
** A sign that she is serious or that something bad is about to happen is that she refers to someone by their given name.
* TheSleepless: Due to her ability Insomnia, Dazed never sleeps.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Infernus]]

!! Infernus
(Magmar-Magmortar)

Ash's fifth pokémon who he received from Officer Jenny after storming the Team Rocket Base in Celadon and possibly ''the'' most powerful member of his team.

His ability, Flame Body, literally makes his mere body so hot, physical contact with him could result in serious injury or even death.
----
* BloodKnight: Infernus' main concern is always battle and growing stronger. While some of Ash's Pokémon laze about and relax while at Oak's Lab, he's always challenging any strong Pokémon he can find, especially fellow fire types.
* BroughtDownToBadass: Even after [[spoiler:giving up godhood]], Infernus is still one of the most powerful members of Ash's team.
* CameBackStrong: After his [[spoiler: death,]] Infernus not only revives but evolves due to [[spoiler:Moltres' flames]].
** [[spoiler: When Infernus almost dies again at the Shamouti Islands, he comes back with all the power of a Legendary, due to Ash using Moltres' Fire Sphere to save his life]].
* ChallengeSeeker: Once Oz evolves, Infernus specifically doesn't use Air Lens in their fight so the battle would be more challenging.
* CharacterDevelopment: When Infernus first joined, he tried to attack Ash and his team twice until Ash could rein him in. Over time, however, Infernus became more willing to work with Ash, seeing Ash as his trainer, his comrade, and eventually, his friend.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Infernus, like most Magmar, only respects Ash after being beaten in battle.
* {{Determinator}}: Infernus regularly ignores wounds, and suffers pain that would cripple other Pokémon through his will to keep fighting.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:After gaining Moltres' Flame Sphere, Infernus utterly wrecks Zapdos and Articuno]].
* FeedItWithFire: The fastest way to heal Infernus is to let him take a dip in magma.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's initially quite hostile to just about everyone and picks a fight with basically every Pokémon he sees. Later Infernus develops into JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* NoSell: Thank to Air Lens, Infernus is able to negate almost any electric type move. This is so powerful, it allows Infernus to completely curbstomp [[spoiler: Michael's Jolteon]] in their battle, despite it being his strongest Pokemon.
* {{Pride}}: Infernus is immensely prideful. Part of what fuels his incredible battle lust is forcing his opponents to acknowledge his superiority.
* RedOniBlueOni: Fittingly, the red to Torrent's blue.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: Against Cynthia's Lucario, Infernus teleports high into the air to both add speed to it's inevitable attack and gain time to build up power before teleporting again only a few feet away from Lucario and slamming into it with an Overheat.
* WorthyOpponent: Infernus sees Torrent as his main rival on Ash's team due to both having the most raw power.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Seeker]]

!! Seeker
(Zubat)

Ash's seventh (technically his fifth) pokémon whom he saved from a Team Rocket grunt that the-then Nidorino killed on St. Anne.

Her ability is Inner Focus, which makes her able to withstand attacks better.
----
* CharacterDevelopment: When Seeker is first introduced, she is a timid bat who is initially afraid of nearly everything. She later risks her life to [[TakingTheBullet save Ash from Golduck's point-blank Water Gun,]] throws herself at Durand's Shiftry to protect Ash, and is now willing to battle for the sake of protecting those she loves.
** After the Durand battle, she has begun to train with the rest of the team, showing a cunning side. And decides to actually battle for the first time against Wally's Ralts.
* CombatPragmatist: She's well aware that she is not as big or strong as the rest of Ash's team, so during a sparring match between team members, she uses herself as a shield, knowing that no one would risk her safety to attack, to give Tangrowth an opportunity to strike - much to Bruiser's horror.
* CowardlyLion: Seeker is fairly timid and not prone to conflict, due to the abuse she suffered while a Team Rocket Pokemon. She doesn't hesitate to throw herself in harm's way when Ash is in danger.
* MartialPacifist: Seeker does not enjoy battle at all, but sees it as necessary to protect what is precious to her.
* PoisonousPerson: As a poison-type, she qualifies as this.
* ScarsAreForever: After taking Golduck's Water Gun, Seeker has a patch of skin on her chest where fur no longer grows.
* TakingTheBullet: When Golduck fired a lethal Water Gun at Ash, she threw herself in the line of fire and ended up in critical condition.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bruiser]]

!! Bruiser
(Machoke-Machamp)

Ash's sixth pokémon who Ash caught after defeating him in the Fuchsia Mountains.
Bruiser's ability, Guts, raises his power whenever he is afflicted with a status condition.
----
* BigBrotherInstinct: Bruiser is outright furious, moreso than most of Ash's other Pokémon when Ash's Golduck attacks Ash and badly injures Seeker when she takes the attack for him.
** This is also the main source of his dislike for Weavile, as the Dark type used to make a habit of tormenting Seeker.
* TheBigGuy: Though not the most powerful of Ash's Pokémon, he's easily the physically strongest and the one most focused on physical combat. After evolving into Machamp, he's also the tallest member of Ash's team, standing over ''eight feet'' tall[[note]]For comparison, most newly evolved Machamp are only a little over five feet tall[[/note]].
* BoxingLessonsForSuperman: Bruno trains Bruiser on how to properly fight like a Fighting type, citing that he'd previously been ineffectually throwing his power around.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: His custom move, Rampage, works like this, combining the effects of Close Combat and Superpower to turn him into a superpowered wrecking ball of devastation. Unfortunately, it burns out his body due to the immense strain it puts on his body. Fortunately, Bruiser later underwent training to turn it into a much more manageable SuperMode.
* FireIceLightning: Bruiser can use Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and Thunder Punch. He utilizes all three of them in the CombinationAttack Triad.
* GentleGiant: He's easily the second friendliest of Ash's Pokémon, after Tangrowth, and after evolving he's also the largest by far.
* TookALevelInBadass: His evolution into a Machamp elevates him to new heights. Not only physically, but mentally as he sheds most of his hang-ups about losing control of his strength.
* UnskilledButStrong:
** Before training under Bruno, Bruiser had strength but little ability to properly utilize it.
** According to Dr.Mia, it is common for newly evolved Machamp to gain a major boost in physical strength at a cost of reduced dexterity and Bruiser is no exception to this. She then recommends that he doesn't touch anything softer than a rock while going through a series of exercises that help Machamp improve their immediate post-evolution shortcomings.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tangrowth]]

!! Tangrowth
(Tangela-Tangrowth)

Ash's ninth (Ash's eighth pokémon was a Golduck that Ash caught before he met Tangrowth as a Tangela) pokémon who joined Ash's team at the Sevii Islands.
His ability, Chlorophyll, doubles his speed in sunlight.
----

* AchillesHeel: Tangrowth's vines are his only way to interact with the world, and cutting them off or disabling them means he's helpless. Ash helps him develop a counter to this weakness by way of Super Regeneration, which lets him regrow his vines incredibly fast.
* CuddleBug: Very fond of hugging Ash and his teammates. And anyone else really.
* DishingOutDirt: Tangrowth is very handy with Ancientpower, which allows him to rip huge chunks of rock and earth out of the ground and use it in creative ways. In particular, Tangrowth is fond of either throwing half the batlefield at the opponent, like during his battle with Grey's Scolipede, or sculpting the rock into barriers to avoid attacks.
* TheDitz: Tangrowth is... not Ash's smartest Pokémon. At one point, Ash tries to give Tangrowth a name. Despite agreeing to it, and helping choose the name, Tangrowth is unable to understand that the name he just chose for himself was his name.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Before Tangrowth, as a Tangela, joined Ash's team Ash realizes that he had been trained before due to Tangela knew Moves that could only be learned via TM.
* FriendToAllChildren: Tangrowth rather enjoys playing with young Pokémon at Oak's lab as well as any children he meets.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: Against Karen's Absol, Tangrowth detaches a burning cluster of vines only to then pick it up and attack with it.
* MightyGlacier: Tangrowth is slow and tough, and has the ability to regenerate, but his lack of mobility makes him rely on immobilizing his opponent and draining their energy, poisoning them and enduring their attacks, or using moves like Ancient Power to launch projectiles at them.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Weavile]]

!! Weavile
(Sneasel-Weavile)

Ash's tenth pokémon who hatched from the egg Ash received after winning the Dandra Town Tournament and the youngest on Ash's team.
His ability, Inner Focus, allows him stronger defense against attacks.
----
* DeathOrGloryAttack: Mind Breaker attacks with a powerful wave of Distortion energy. But it requires a few seconds of charge up and utterly exhausts Sneasel to use it, and while it is an area attack, it emanates from Weavile and he needs to be relatively close to his opponent to have the greatest effect. As such, using it will end a fight one way or the other.
* FragileSpeedster: As a Sneasel, he was fast, and could do a lot of damage with his claws, but one good hit could knock him completely unconscious.
** His months of training with his powerhouse teammates, battles, and his evolution into a Weavile, however, has made him significantly more tough and durable.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Weavile may act like a spoiled brat most of the time, and is easily the nastiest of Ash's Pokémon, but at the end of the day, he's still a part of the team, and cares about Ash just as much as the other members of his team.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: When Ash is helping Steven protect the Beldum Colony from Hunter J, J's Ariados attacks Ash and almost kills him. The then-Sneasel leaps in to save him, and how does he deal with the Ariados? He ''rips it apart, leaving it a barely recognizable corpse!''

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Oz]]

!! Oz
(Electabuzz-Electivire)

Ash's eleventh pokémon who he captured while on a mission with Lt. Surge and Brock.

Her ability, Static, can paralyze opponents during physical combat. After Oz evolves, she gained the additional ability, Lightning Rod, which increases her already potent electrical abilities so much, that even bolts that jump off her can paralyze and cripple lesser Pokémon.
----
* DistaffCounterpart: To Infernus. Like him, she's a humanoid, elemental-based fighter with a brawler fighting style who loves to battle.
* LightningBruiser: Oz in her regular form as Electivire is strong and durable, but her bulk slows her down. However, Storm Surge makes the Lightning part literal, amping her speed, as well as her strength and durability.
* MenacingStroll: Menacing limp, in this case. In the final round against Fino Moore, Oz invokes this in her tired, supercharged state in an effort finish Moore's Salazzle and win the battle, with electricity surging off her with every step.
* PainfulTransformation: Her evolution into an Electivire is described as agonizing.
* ParentalSubstitute: Oz dotes on Aron more than the others and has to be discouraged from giving him all her food.
* TheRival: Oz and Infernus see each other as rivals, in a way, especially during the training at Mt. Ember. It becomes less pronounced after Infernus evolves, due to his massive increase in power and mastery over Air Lens putting him comfortably ahead of Oz. Once Oz evolves as well, the pair start fighting the moment they're allowed.
* ShockAndAwe: As an Electric-type, Oz can weaponize electricity to shock and paralyze opponents, and can even call down bolts of pure lightning!
* SixthRanger: Oz was caught relatively late into Ash's adventures in Kanto, and as such, had to quickly play catch up to the rest of the team.
* SuperMode: Oz's Storm Surge allows her to supercharge herself after being struck a bolt of lightning, increasing her speed, strength and her electric powers.
* TheWorfEffect: Despite having respectable power, Oz is the most likely of Ash's Pokémon to lose a fight, generally due to nothing more than bad luck.
** Subverted with her evolution to a Electivire, and throughout the Hoenn training arc. Oz wracks up impressive wins against formiddable opponents like Wattson's Mega Ampharos, Fino's Salazzle, and Wallace's Ludicolo.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lairon]]

!! Lairon
(Aron-Lairon)

Ash's twelfth addition to his team. Ash met him while Ash and Daisy were exploring Granite Cave in Hoenn.
His ability is Rock Head, which negates recoil from attacks such as Take Down.
----
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Though not the youngest member of Ash's team, he is the least experienced and weakest (after Seeker), causing the rest of the team to treat him as though he is, even Weavile who actually is the youngest.
** His evolution to Lairon, however, makes him no longer qualify as the weakest on the team.
* BadassAdorable: It's noted multiple times that the-then Aron's attempts to appear/sound fierce came off as more adorable than anything. However, his Iron Head badly concussed Flannery's Camerupt and nearly defeated it.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Due to being a Rock/Steel type and eating metal, Lairon's tongue is more akin to steel wool than flesh. When he licks Ash's gloved hand, hiss tongue tears right through Ash's glove and hand.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Since Lairon's only companion as an Aron in the Granite Cave is the ghost type Sableye, he doesn't realize how strong and heavy he is. A HeadbuttOfLove leaves bruises and Ash can't pick him up off his body because he weighed more than Ash does, even as an Aron.
* HeadbuttOfLove: Lairon gently headbutts others as a form of affection. Given his weight, it leaves bruises on humans.
* InertiaIsACruelMistress: Weaponized against Flannery's Camerupt. When Camerupt uses Ancient Power to draw the-then Aron closer to it, he uses Magnet Rise and Iron Head to launch itself full force at Camerupt. Lairon as an Aron may have been far smaller and weaker, but very little can withstand over 150lbs of rock and metal crashing into its skull.
* NotQuiteFlight: Through training, Lairon can use Magnet Rise for prolonged periods to get around. While Ash admits that even calling what Lairon does "gliding" would be overly generous, it still gives him added mobility and protection from ground type attacks.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Aron's evolution into Lairon caused him to have more difficulty managing Magnet Rise due to growing to twice his original size and becoming far more heavy.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Exposure to the power of a wild Spiritomb forces him to evolve into a Lairon, with Ash commenting that it had stripped away his innocence.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lotus]]
!! Lotus
(Spiritomb)

Ash's thirteenth addition to his team, and the second member added in Hoenn. Its ability is Pressure, which gives Spiritomb a defensive field that requires massive amounts of power to pierce.
----
* ThirteenIsUnlucky: Lotus is Ash's thirteenth Pokémon, and it quickly proves to be the most difficult and problematic addition to Ash's team yet.
* AndIMustScream: A Spiritomb is created by breaking down 108 souls and stitching the fragments together with distortion, leaving nothing but agony, and mixes of emotion, memory and power.
* DespairEventHorizon: Weaponized. Lotus forces people to relive their most painful memories and feel intense apathy. It can forcibly make mentally unprepared people literally lie down and wait to die.
* IronicNickname: Ash deliberately names his Spiritomb, an entity that weaponizes apathy and despair, after a flower that symbolizes the exact opposite of despair: Hope.
* HiveMind: A collection of 108 souls, existing as the same entity. Whenever Ash tries to meditate with it, he [[spoiler: usually gets glimpses of the last moments the souls suffered before they were made into a Spiritomb]].
* NeverBeHurtAgain: Given how a Spiritomb is created, the souls that make it up are willing to do anything to make sure they can never be hurt again. [[spoiler: this is briefly weaponized during Zinnia's attack when all 108 souls come together to defend Ash, almost quoting the trope word for word]].
* SevenDeadlySins: According to WordOfGod, a Spiritomb is designed to wield a specific sin or negative emotion depending on how it's created. While Cynthia's Spiritomb was based on Wrath, Lotus is based off of the eighth deadly sin of Orthodox Christianity - Despair.
* UndeadAbomination: A Spiritomb is a combination of 108 souls bound to a keystone.
* UnskilledButStrong: Lotus possesses a high amount of power, but is unskilled in any techniques or focused applications. This makes it easy for Ash and it's team to capture Lotus once they regain their bearings.
[[/folder]]

!! Pallet Town
[[folder:Professor Oak]]
!! Professor Samuel Oak
The Pokémon Professor of Pallet Town and grandfather of Gary Oak. He gifts all four trainers with their starters and plays a crucial role in Ash and Gary's growth.
----
* CoolOldGuy: ''Much'' more than that. He is a genius who spearheaded a lot of Kanto's technological achievements, [[spoiler: created the master ball, ''and'' was once the champion of Indigo.]]
* HesBack: Learning that [[spoiler:Agatha only has months to live]] lights a fire inside him that causes Ash to actually see the man who became Champion decades ago. Professor Oak assembles his entire team for the first time in years before racing off to [[spoiler:see Agatha before she dies]].
* MadScientist: Downplayed. Oak doesn't get too crazy usually, but he still wastes a couple hundred thousand dollars throwing evolutionary stones at Ash to measure how they explode due to the boy's connection to Fire, Ice, and Lightning.
* MythologyGag: This may double as CompositeCharacter. Oak's team is a combination of his pokémon from the original game's glitch (Tauros, Charizard, and Arcanine), his team only seen in the anime (Alakazam and Dragonite), and the pikachu who would've became Ash's starter if he had overslept like in the anime.
* NoodleIncident: Whatever happened ten years ago in Pallet Town [[spoiler: killed Oak's wife, his daughter and son-in-law,]] is the reason Daisy won't come home, [[spoiler: and made Oak [[DespairEventHorizon almost give up on life]].]]
** [[spoiler: We later find out that Giovanni had ordered an attack on Pallet Town, killing his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law, their Pokémon, his Venusaur, and the Ranger assigned to protect them, as revenge for Oak shielding Delia and her infant son from him.]]
* OddNameOut: Averted. Unlike in the games, everyone in the story has a first and last name, not just him.
* OldMaster: Needs no explanation.
* ParentalSubstitute: Serves as one to Delia, and as a grandfather substitute to Ash.
* RetiredBadass: Although he's been retired for many years, he's still strong enough to possibly contend with the Elite Four.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Delia Ketchum]]
!! Delia Ketchum
Ash's mother
----
* ComfortingTheWidow: [[spoiler: Widower, in this case. If it weren't for her, Oak believes he may have given up on life ten years ago.]]
* MamaBear: Not even Lance, the most powerful trainer in the world, is safe from her ire if he endangers her son.
* MindRape: [[spoiler: The Unown forcibly weaving false memories into her mind, leaving her unable to differentiate what memories are real and what are false.]] She gets better, though.
* NoodleIncident: [[spoiler: Somehow she was able to silence Claydol for an hour when visiting Ash in the hospital after he is attacked by Zinnia, which earns her Steven's respect]].
* SupremeChef: She runs a restaurant in Pallet Town.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She does not hold back when she tears into Lance during the Greenfield Incident.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gary Oak]]
!! Gary Oak
The cocky grandson of Professor Oak and one of the four trainers who received a starter pokémon from said professor.
----
* BreakTheHaughty: Almost every single time he challenges Ash, he gets his butt handed to him.
* BullyingTheDragon: He constantly taunts Ash, who fought Team Rocket, [[spoiler: watched Infernus die at the hands of Moltres before he was revived, and helped save the world from Mewtwo. This makes Ash (mostly) crushing Gary at the Conference all the more satisfying.]]
* CityMouse: Gary Oak simply is not built for living in the wilds, with his various appliances such as a portable television and mini-fridge not being luxuries, but necessities. To some extent, this also applies to his Pokémon, such as a Scizor who flinches whenever branches whip against him despite having metal skin.
* {{Flanderization}}: Gary plays up his old {{Jerkass}} tendencies to make his opponents focus on him rather than their match.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: While traveling together for a time, Gary asks Ash too personal a question in why Delia has been acting so odd recently. Ash's biting response makes Gary realize how sensitive a topic it is.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: After [[spoiler: Ash defeats him at the Conference,]] he slowly becomes more approachable and easy to talk to. Of course, he's still a {{Jerkass}} to anyone he deems weak and not worth his time.
** Additionally, he cares deeply for his pokémon team.
* MasterOfNone: Early on, Gary had a habit of catching dozens of pokémon but not training them very much beyond teaching them TM moves. His regular defeats by Ash teaches him to focus more on improving the pokémon he already has rather than catching more.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Gary is a recognized prodigy in pokémon training. As he himself stated he reached Top 8 as a rookie, the same place as Lance himself on his first year yet was overshadowed by Ash's record breaking feat of reaching the finals and nearly winning in his first year.
* ShootingSuperman: Gary has his Blastoise use Hydro Pump during the spar against [[spoiler:Suicune]]. Ash lampshades the ridiculousness of using a water attack against [[spoiler:the living embodiment of water]].
* SmugSuper: He's talented and he knows it. Almost every time he has a chance to brag or flaunt himself, he takes it.
* TranquilFury: In his email to Ash about losing to Clair, Gary admits he's so calm because his rage broke and he's looped right back to tranquility.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Jonathan Lindon]]
!! Jonathan Lindon
One of the trainers who received a starter from Professor Oak.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Much to his frustration, Jonathan just can't seem to catch up to prodigies Ash and Gary no matter how hard he trains.
* AttackAttackAttack: One of Jonathan's biggest weaknesses; his team and all of his strategies are focused on attacking with as much power as possible.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Jonathan's over-reliance on a couple strong pokémon means he's utterly screwed the moment someone takes out his heavy hitters as the rest of his team is underleveled.
* OCStandIn: Just like Amelia, Jonathan is an original character who was likely created so that the Charmander starter would have a place in the story.
* PutOnABus: After Team Rocket raids and destroys the St. Anne, Jonathan and Amelia are separated from Ash and don't appear again until [[TheBusCameBack the Indigo Conference.]]
** The two of them are put on ''another'' bus when they leave to travel Johto and don't appear again until chapter 50.
* StoutStrength: He's described to be not obese, but fairly stocky.
* RunningGag: After Ash teams up with Suicune to test the other Pallet Town trainers, Jonathan keeps joking with Ash about how the latter should call on Suicune for help in matters.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Amelia Franklin]]
!! Amelia Franklin
One of the four trainers who received a starter from Professor Oak.
----
* DamageOverTime: Her preferred style of battling is drawing out the battle and outmaneuvering her opponent, weakening them over time. That strategy is insufficient, however, against pokémon with absurd amounts of power like, say, [[OhCrap George Grey's Hydreigon.]]
* JackOfAllStats: In contrast to Jonathan, Amelia focuses on raising each of her pokémon equally, leaving them individually weaker.
* LogicalWeakness: Her DamageOverTime strategy falls apart against enemies powerful enough to overwhelm her team before they can be worn down.
* OCStandIn: Like Jonathan, she was likely created to answer the question of what would become of Bulbasaur.
* TheSmartGirl: She's clearly the more sensible one of the Jonathan-Amelia duo.
* TheTeamNormal: She's likely the normal one of the four Pallet Town Prodigies, and she's perfectly okay with that.
[[/folder]]

! Indigo League
[[folder:In General]]
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: In the world of Pokémon, the stronger you are, the more authority you have.
* BadassArmy: Aside from the Champion and Elite Four there are also the professional Trainers employed by the League ranging from regular Rangers to elite units such as ACE or SPECTRE. Every single one of which are some of the greatest Trainers in Indigo.
* BigGood: Tries to be this and for the most part succeeded, their recent string of failures and defeats arising only from tangling with forces of nature like the Legends.
* CurbStompBattle: Badass Army they may be, every direct encounter in a fight the League has had with any Legend inevitably becomes this.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: The Indigo League contains among the greatest Trainers and military force on the known world. However even their full might leaves them still hopelessly outmatched by the Legends.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Almost every member of the Indigo League, Gym Leaders and Elite Four, are very strong and capable leaders.
[[/folder]]
!! Elite Four
[[folder:Lance Wataru]]
!! Lance Wataru
Status: Active

The champion of the Indigo League and possibly the most powerful trainer in the world.
----
* TheAce: Without question. Lance is the strongest member of the Wataru Clan, The Drake, and the strongest trainer in Indigo, if not the world.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Ash.
* BreakTheHaughty: Undergoes a minor version of this during the events of Anime/Pokemon3, [[spoiler: after he is taken captive by the Unown crystals and brainwashed into going along with Molly's dreamworld. His attempts to convince Ash to turn the power of the Unown over to the League]] come more out of hurt pride and retaliation than actual want to strengthen the League.
* DragonRider: Frequently rides his first Dragonite into battle and effortlessly commands an entire group of dragons when even just one is said to be hard for the average Trainer.
* DragonTamer: His team is made up of Dragon Types or pokémon that can be counted in the Dragon Egg Group.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Subverted. While he does put Ash and his team through TrainingFromHell at the Sevi Islands, he's not as cruel as typical examples of this trope.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: It's obvious to everyone how much he loves Dragon Types, proudly talking about how Gible and Bagon will be powerhouses once they evolve to Ash during their training.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has two moments of this. [[spoiler: First being when Infernus apparently dies fighting Moltres, an endeavour he talked Ash into taking part with him.]] Second is when Delia confronts him about how he has essentially made her son into a child soldier for the League.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Pranked Steven at one point by telling him that Ash needed to be told TheTalk, which Delia had already given Ash sometime before.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: While Lance is ''the'' most powerful trainer in the world, such a feat is utterly meaningless against the Legendaries. Lance himself acknowledges that he's a minor piece in a game too large for him to understand.
* ParentalSubstitute: Aside from Steven and Professor Oak, Lance is easily the closest thing Ash has to a father figure.
* SoProudOfYou: He is very proud of Ash's achievements and makes sure his apprentice knows it, such as when he sends a letter to Ash after the boy defeats Fino Moore.
** He says this to Ash when he comes to Lilycove to see Ash after the battle with Wallace.
* TearsOfJoy: According to Karen, he was weeping after watching Ash's battle with Wallace. Lance almost cries again when Ash [[spoiler: presents him with a Dreepy Zinnia was forced to leave behind]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bruno]]
!! Bruno
Status: Active

The fighting-type specialist of the Elite Four and possibly the most powerful, second only to Lance. He is also the only member of the old Elite Four who didn't retire.
----
* BoxingLessonsForSuperman: Bruno can teach, and has been known to give lessons to, inexperienced fighting types.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Bruno is a master martial artist and a relatively skilled Aura user. Bruno is tellingly the only Trainer to be able keep to up with their pokémon in the middle of high stakes combat and even managed to land a hit on the Fake Entei.
* GeniusBruiser: Despite what the media often makes him out to be, Bruno is very philosophical and intelligent.
** This is even lampshaded by Ash, thinking that Bruno would ''never'' be so high in the Indigo League if he was a dumb brute.
* TheSilentBob: Bruno rarely speaks, but when he does, everyone present listens.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Agatha]]
!! Agatha Hashimoto
Status: Retired

The former ghost-type specialist of the Elite Four and the last of the Hashimoto Clan.
----
* CastFromLifespan: Her immense powers come at the cost of her aging twice as fast as normal.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She may be the most intimidating and cynical member of the Elite Four, but she is very much on the side of good.
* DeadpanSnarker: The ''most'' sarcastic and snarky person in the story.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:Her grandfather fused her with a newly created ghost when she was first born]].
* SecretlyDying: [[spoiler:A couple months after the Indigo Conference, Agatha confesses to Ash that she has only a few months left to live at best]].
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's the same age as Professor Oak but looks like she's almost a hundred years old.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lorelei]]
!! Lorelei
Status: Retired

The former ice-type specialist of the Elite Four. She retired from her position in favor of bringing order to her birthplace: The Sevii Islands
----
* TheAce: Lorelei is acknowledged as the greatest Trainer to ever come from the Sevii Islands.
* AnIcePerson: The Indigo League's resident Ice-Type Master before her retirement from active service.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: All Master level Trainers are this by default with their teams. But Lorelei is said to be strong enough to conquer the entire Sevii archipelago in her quest to unify it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Koga]]
!! Koga
Status: Active

The former poison-type specialist Fuchsia City gym leader who was recruited to be a member of the new Elite Four.
----

* {{Ninja}}: A fully trained ninja and master fighter and pokémon trainer.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Will]]
!! Will
Status: Active

The psychic-type specialist and psychic of the new Elite Four, as well as the former apprentice of Sabrina.
----
* BlessedWithSuck: Against the Fake Entei and the Unown, Will's psychic powers left him more vulnerable to corruption by the Unown, causing him to attack his allies.
* PsychicPowers: While not quite as powerful as Sabrina, Will is still a very potent human psychic with abilities roughly on the level of a Kadabra.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Karen]]
!! Karen
Status: Active

The dark-type specialist of the new Elite Four.
----
* CombatPragmatist: She is an unashamed user of this trope. She fights with underhanded tactics like killing the lights, blocking opponents' vision and using irritating techniques like Confuse Ray, Destiny Bond and Perish Song.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Has this reaction when she first meets Ash, she unashamedly saying this and claimed that her opinion of Team Rocket dropped very low. [[spoiler: She retracts it when she sees Ash save Lance from Mewtwo.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She can come off an abrasive, unapologetic jerk, but she's caring, fearless, and will do '''anything''' to save her allies.
[[/folder]]

!! Kanto Gym Leaders
[[folder:In General]]
* AdaptationalBadass: In the games, they exist only as [=NPCs=] to test the player throughout the story. Here, they are the guardians of their respective cities, ''and'' they have more powerful teams who they use depending on the stength of the challenger.
* ChallengeSeeker: Except Erika, every gym leader loves to fight opponents who can force them to go all out. Most of them give Ash standing invitations to come back and face them again after he fights their strongest teams.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Brock]]
!! Brock
Status: Active

The teenage Rock-type specialist Leader of the Pewter City Gym. He's usually the first gym leader Kanto rookies face on their journeys.
----
* AmusingInjuries: As of yet, the only example: Surge punishes Brock for bothering the local Nurse Joy by having his Raichu tase him.
* DemotedToExtra: In canon, he was one of the main protagonists. Here, he only makes a few appearance in a few chapters and the Indigo Conference.
* DishingOutDirt: While several of his pokémon possess ground-type attributes, all of them have earth-related powers.
* MyGodYouAreSerious: When Ash tells Brock that [[spoiler: it was ''Zapdos'' who was causing the storm,]] Brock laughs, thinking Ash is joking. When Ash doesn't break, however, Brock [[OhCrap realizes that Ash is dead serious.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Sisters]]
!! The Sensational Sisters
Status: Active

[[note]]From oldest to youngest[[/note]] Daisy, Violet, Lily, and Misty: the four siblings who all run the Water-type Cerulean City Gym and serve as gym leaders.
----
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Reversed. Misty, the youngest sister, finds her older siblings ''very'' annoying.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While the older sisters seem like pretty-faced idiots, they are quite powerful. For example, Daisy is strong enough to contend with Ash ''after'' he's completed the Kanto Gym Circuit.
* DemotedToExtra: Misty only makes a few appearances throughout the story rather than journey with Ash like in canon.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: It's clear that Misty is much more mentally put together than her mostly air-headed sisters.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lt. Surge]]
!! Lieutenant Surge
Status: Active

Former military, the Vermillion City Electric-type Gym Leader, and the gym leader with the most appearances throughout ''Traveler''.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: He helps Ash train Oz, his Electabuzz, and plays a more prominent role in taking down Team Rocket.
* BoisterousBruiser: If you manage to earn Surge's respect, he can be a fun guy to be around.
* CruelToBeKind: It's implied that he verbally rips apart trainers he defeats to motivate them into becoming stronger.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: If you can defeat him or earn his respect, he can be a helpful ally and even a good friend.
* DrillSergeantNasty: He's nowhere near as bad as typical users of this trope, but he can be loud, commanding, and yells down to people he thinks are weaklings not worth his time.
* HotBlooded: While he's not a BloodKnight, he does enjoy a good battle.
* ShockAndAwe: As an Electric-type specialist, Surge certainly qualifies as this.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Erika]]
!! Erika
Status: Active

The grass-type gym leader of Celadon City.
----
* TheDitz: She is...a gigantic idiot; to the point where even Lance is exasperated with her. She would rather be securing ''perfume deals'' over doing her job.
* HiddenDepths: According to WordOfGod, while Erika is rather poor as a wartime leader, she ''is'' a very capable peacetime leader - great administrator, great politician, skilled in financing and planning urban development, and is one of the few gym leaders capable of managing a city as massive as Celadon.
* ReluctantWarrior: She's shown to dislike fighting and is the only Gym Leader to ''not'' invite Ash back for a rematch after he beats her strongest team.
* SkewedPriorities: She's more focused on her perfume business than dealing with Team Rocket.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sabrina]]
!! Sabrina
Status: Active

The Gym leader of Saffron City, psychic-type specialist, and the greatest psychic in Kanto.
----
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Unlike in the anime, Sabrina never did any horrible things like [[AndIMustScream turning her parents into dolls]] and she is far more kind and caring than her canon counterpart.
* BigGood: As the most powerful non-pokemon psychic in the world, Sabrina serves as this in the supernatural aspects in the world.
* PsychicPowers: The most powerful non-pokémon psychic in Kanto, and possibly the world.
* LogicalWeakness: She has several:
** Although she has great power, she has to abide by natural "laws," limiting how much she can influence the world around her.
** Being the most powerful human psychic means absolutely nothing against a PhysicalGod like Mewtwo.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Blaine]]
!! Blaine
Status: Active

The grizzled leader of the fire-type gym of Cinnabar City.
----
* TheAlcoholic: During the Indigo Conference, Blaine is shown to spend his downtime drinking quite a lot.
** If ''Recollections'' is anything to go by, Blaine can down at least twelve shots and still have mental coherency, much to the disbelief of Lance.
* TheDreaded: During the Great War between Kanto and Unova, Blaine single-handedly led an assault that not only ended Unova's occupation of Cinnabar, but also permanently ''crippled'' Unovan forces. From then on, all Unovans ''feared'' Blaine.
* OldSoldier: He technically counts as this due to having fought in the Great War and being considerably old.
* SurpassedTheTeacher: When Infernus evolved, Blaine taught Infernus the ''Air Lens'' technique that could nullify electric attacks. He certainly never expected Infernus to [[spoiler: cancel out ''Zapdos'', the embodiment of lightning.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Giovanni]]
!! Giovanni
Status: Active [[spoiler: (formerly), Deceased]]

The strongest Gym Leader in Kanto and leader of Team Rocket.
----
* BigBad: As the secret leader of Team Rocket, he served as this until his untimely demise.
* BrokenPedestal: To all of Kanto and the Indigo League once it's revealed he's the leader of Team Rocket.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Taunting Mewtwo that he was created by humans and is meant to serve them ultimately causes his death.
* EvilIsPetty: [[spoiler:He had most of Professor Oak's family killed in retaliation for the man keeping Delia and Ash from him]].
* KarmicDeath: Givoanni is killed by Mewtwo once he reveals he was just using the Legendary. Triples as DeathByAdaptation and AdaptationalKarma due to his anime counterpart not only being alive by the end of Ash's tenure as protagonist, but ultimately ends up as a KarmaHoudini.
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:He's Ash's father.]]
* ParentalFavoritism: During the last months of his life, Giovanni strongly preferred [[spoiler:Ash]] over Silver despite the former being a thorn to Team Rocket's side, with Silver claiming that one of the last things he said to him was "What else could I have expected from my silver medal?"
* SoProudOfYou: Giovanni is implied to be extremely proud of Ash managing to beat him on his first try.
[[/folder]]

!! Johto Gym Leaders

[[folder:Whitney]]
!!Whitney
Status: Active

The Normal-type Gym Leader of Goldenrod City
----
* AdaptationalWimp: Played with. In the anime, it takes Ash two tries to beat her. Here, Ash beats her with his weakest Pokémon. This is mostly due to [[AdaptationalBadass Ash]] being more dedicated in training his Pokémon in ''Traveler'' than he is in the anime.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Morty]]
!!Morty
Status: Active

The Ghost-type master of the Ecruteak City Gym
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: Although his choice of Pokémon can be considered ominous, Morty is a reasonably nice guy.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Downplayed; While Eusine isn't exactly a {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, Morty usually has to check his obsession over Suicune.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pryce]]
!!Pryce
Status: Active

The Ice-type specialist of the Mahogany City Gym
----
* OldMaster: He has maintained his position as Gym Leader longer than since Lance started his journey.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Dignified he may be, he is not above gambling on whether or not Ash defeats Clair when they finally fight.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Clair]]
!!Clair Wataru
Status: Active

The strongest Gym Leader in Johto and Lance's cousin.
----
* AlwaysSecondBest: Clair is this in comparison to Lance; her skill as a trainer can rival the Elite 4 and it's mentioned that had Clair been born in any other time she would have been the Drake of the Wataru, a title given only to the strongest and most skilled clan member of their generation. But she had the bad luck of having to compete with Lance, the youngest Champion to ever ascend to the position and generally regarded as the strongest Dragon Master and one of the strongest Trainers in the world.
* CombatPragmatist: When Torrent is winning against her Kingdra, she orders hers to use Attract to neutralize it. Though both she and Kingdra are clearly upset at having to resort to such a move.
* HonorBeforeReason: Clair refuses to evolve her Dragonair because she wants to prove she can be as strong as Lance without doing so.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: She might be the strongest gym leader in Johto but people are dead wrong when they say she's on par with the Elite Four. Lance himself says Clair has a long way to go before she's at that level. Similarly, Ash manages to defeat her, albeit with difficulty, whereas he struggles to beat even ''half'' of an Elite Four member's team.
* SoreLoser: She positively howls in rage at Ash defeating her then kicks him and Gary out of her gym before going on a week long hiatus. Even her own mother comments on this during a dinner and laments on how she raised her daughter to behave better.
* UnknownRival: Clair considers herself to be Lance's rival, but Lance does not reciprocate.
[[/folder]]

! Ever Grande League

[[folder:Steven Stone]]
!! Steven Stone
Status: Semi-Retired

The former champion of Hoenn and mentor to Ash. He plays a massive role in Ash's development.
----
* AngerBornOfWorry: Has a few major instances of this so far. Steven is not pleased at all when Ash reveals that he willingly went into the vault containing Spiritomb, something that almost gets him killed. He has another, but more comical, instance when he finds out that Ash held a 24 Hour Challenge while in command of the Fortree Gym and almost ran himself into the ground with 568 battles. He has another instance that devoves into a full on breakdown when he visits Ash in the hospital after Zinnia's assassination attempt, ranting how Hoenn is too dangerous and that Ash should either go back to Kanto for the time being or finish his training with Cynthia.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Despite not being related to Ash, he genuinely cares about his student and tries to teach him life skills, such as shaving.
* BigDamnHeroes: Were it not for Steven, Ash, Jonathan and Amelia would've perished as early as Chapter 2.
* CainAndAbel: Steven is the Abel to Pierce's Cain.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: Has been mentioned to suffere from severe hangovers a few times when in Ash's company.
* CombatPragmatist: How does he have Metagross counter their biggest weakness, Fire-types? Create a vacuum to make flame-based attacks impossible.
* CripplingOverspecialization: His team relies heavily on Metagross and it is mentioned that when Metagross falls in battle, the rest of Steven's team follows shortly after.
* DeadpanSnarker: Claydol, one of Steven's Pokemon, is a master of this, rivaling even Dazed. Metagross, while a being of few words, tends to play this up as well.
* TheGadfly: His Claydol.
* TheMentor: Steven has made it his personal duty to help Ash eliminate his weaknesses and "hone him into a sword."
* MundaneUtility: It's later revealed that [[WorldsStrongestMan Metagross]] helps Steven shave, Claydol and Skarmory cut Steven's hair, and Armaldo does his laundry.
** The last one Ash had asked as a [[MyGodYouAreSerious joke.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: While Steven does not care for Lance's immature habits, he's not above playing pranks.
** Such as having Ace Trainers alter their uniforms to include replicas of Lance's cape after Ash tells him how the Celadon Department store sells replicas of them, complete with cheesy commercial featuring a Lance cosplayer.
** He also picks up on some of [[DrillSergeantNasty Lance's quirks when training Ash, such as dumping a bucket of cold water on him to wake him up]].
* ShipTease: With Winona.
* TheSmartGuy: Steven's main strength is his intellect.
* SoProudOfYou: Not only does he care about Ash but he praises his apprentice and gushes about him to co-workers.
* SupremeChef: When hosting Ash for his training, he cooks all their meals.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Not Steven, but Claydol. Claydol's telepathy is described of having the "voice" of a man, woman, boy, girl, and elderly all at once.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Not Steven, but Metagross. Metagross is quite likely the most powerful pokemon currently under the command of a living trainer.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Wallace]]
!! Wallace
Status: Active

The current Champion of Hoenn and former Sootopolis City Gym Leader.
----
* MakingASplash: Wallace is a Water-type specialist, after all.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Given that none of the Elite Four became Champion, it's implied that Wallace defeated Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia ''and'' Drake!
** WordOfGod even confirms that he did!
* SecretKeeper: As of Silver turning himself in to the League, Wallace is the only member of the League who knows that Ash and Silver are siblings along with Ash being Giovanni's son.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fino]]
!! Fino Moore
Status: Retired

Former Ever Grande Elite Four member, former Lavaridge Gym Leader, and Steven's old master.
----
* CulturedBadass: Fino Moore is one of the most recognized and powerful masters, and he has a soft spot for foreign poems. He is also mentioned to be a fan of Pokémon Contests.
* TheMentor: He was Steven's teacher in Steven's youth, and he's training his granddaughter, Flannery, to take his place as Lavaridge Town Gym Leader.
* OldMaster: More than lives up to this trope.
* PlayingWithFire: Fino Moore is a Fire-type master, after all.
* TheStrategist: Fino Moore is a natural tactician. He teaches his team moves and strategies that prepare them for almost anything, and he names said strategies after points in history so that his opponent can't guess what he's planning.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Drake]]
!! Drake Teach
Status: Active

The Dragon-type master of the Hoenn League Elite Four.
----
* CigarChomper: Is known for smoking cigars and can be bribed with high quality ones.
** His Salamence Victor is also known for smoking them.
* DragonTamer: A former Champion and Dragon Master of Hoenn.
* {{Expy}}: Drake is implied to be an expy of a pirate; ragged jacket, mustache, pirate ship and all.
** This is taken a step further when it's revealed that his last name is "Teach," which just happens to be the last name of the most famous pirate of all time, Blackbeard.
* OldMaster: He's the second strongest trainer in Hoenn, united the Hoenn Region into the Ever Grande League, reigned as the first Hoenn Champion for many years and was even recognized as the most powerful of trainer in the world, the Dragon Master, for decades until Lance claimed his title. While he is no longer the Champion, he is still respected as such by many.
* OldSoldier: Fought in the war against Unova and is still respected in Hoenn for his efforts.
* SecretTest: Won the trust and loyalty of his starter, Victor, by winning a game of riddles when the latter was still a Bagon.
* TranquilFury: Has been shown to be a calm man of few words so far, but according to Steven he has sworn that if anyone of the Draconoids knew about Zinnia's assassination attempt on Ash that he will destroy their village.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Glacia]]
!! Glacia Galanis
Status: Active

The Ice-type Master of the Hoenn Elite
----
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: While Glacia in the games is an elegant but open person, Glacia here is very formal, valuing etiquette very highly (such as when she called out Sidney for his rude behavior by his title and told Ash to meet with her often to improve his etiquette), and often speaks with a monotone voice.
* AnIcePerson: She's an ice-type user. It should be obvious.
* TheDreaded: A comedic example. Flannery and other gym leaders fear getting an earful from Glacia on account of not maintaining professional behavior. Even Sydney, the punk of the Elite Four, immediately checks his behavior when called out by Glacia.
* EtiquetteNazi: Subverted. Glacia is ''very'' formal, and she holds proper manners, punctuality, honesty, and formality very highly, but she is not harsh enough to call someone out for the littlest mistake in ettiquette, like most examples of this trope.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Is usually a cold, elegant, and formal person but she does care about others. When she meets up with Ash in the aftermath of Zinnia's attack, she gently tells Ash that he needs to act more his age and makes sure that he gets the proper care he needs given his injuries,
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Phoebe]]
!! Phoebe
Status: Active

The Ghost-type Master of Hoenn's Elite Four
----
* BadassAdorable: Phoebe may be an adorable woman, but don't be fooled. There's a good reason why she's considered one of Hoenn's strongest trainers.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Phoebe may use one of the more infamous types of Pokemon, but she is kind, cheerful, and extroverted.
* TheDitz: While she's definitely not stupid, she does her moments.
** Like when she asked Ash if she could see the Spiritomb he caught, not even thinking about how doing so would affect everyone in the room.
* HiddenDepths: Phoebe can initially be seen as a loveable, ditzy woman, she is actually very wise underneath. Such as when she advised Ash to not be too focused on his status in the Ever Grande League when his true place is with the Indigo League.
** Additionally, she can somehow communicate with ghosts like the Sandyghast Ash caught and read how they see certain people.
** Phoebe shows virtually no ill effects from dealing with a Spiritomb for the first time, something that reduced trainers like Ash and Cynthia to mental anguish.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: She is usually a cheerful person, even in the middle of Mt. Pyre, but immediately becomes serious when Ash mentions that he spotted Tobias nearby.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sidney]]
!! Sidney
Status: Active

The Dark-Type Master of the Hoenn Elite Four.
----
* AxCrazy: Gee, where to begin? Allowing his Zoroark to mess with an agitated Nidoking, recalling how Jacquline Durand gruesomely executed defenseless prisoners as if amused and in front of a minor, making jokes at Steven's expense while said former champion is stressed, and gleefully taking on Team Rocket's ghost-type stampede as if they unleashed it just for him.
* BloodKnight: He very much enjoys combat and is eager to partake on any occasion, especially against evil people like Team Rocket.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Although he specializes in one of the least reputable pokemon types and has socially unappealing traits, he is one of the good guys.
* DelinquentHair: Sidney is always seen sporting a sharp, purple mohawk.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Almost immediately after he is introduced, he trolls an angry Nidoking and Ash with his illusion-making Zoroark.
* HiddenDepths: According to WordOfGod, despite his unpleasant traits, Sidney is a strong and loyal member of the Hoenn League.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: He is generally a wisecracker who loves to push his co-worker's buttons but after facing an entity known as the Harbinger, Sidney is usually quiet and withdrawn for a few days after.
[[/folder]]

!! Hoenn Gym Leaders
[[folder:Brawly]]
!! Brawly
Status: Active

The Fighting-type Gym Leader of Dewford Town.
----
* HotBlooded: Engergetic and tenacious, Brawly certainly enjoys a good battle and he loves training with his Pokémon.
* NiceGuy: Brawly is almost always seen with a smile on his face whenever he talks to Ash.
* SurferDude: Pretty much his whole character revolves around this. He loves competition, says dude a ''lot,'' and is topless most of the time.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Wattson]]
!! Wattson
Status: Active

The Electric-type Leader of the Mauville City Gym.
----
* CoolOldGuy: Though Wattson is no spring chicken, he's quite the skilled battler and can be a fun guy to be around.
* ShockAndAwe: As an Electric-type gym leader, it only makes sense that he'd qualify as this.
* SickeninglySweethearts: He and his wife's very public affections towards each other make Ash quite uncomfortable when he meets them.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Flannery]]
!! Flannery Moore
Status: Active

The Fire-type Gym Leader of Lavaridge Town and apprentice to Fino Moore
----

* TheApprentice: To her grandfather, Fino. Under his tutelage, Flannery is learning to lead the Lavaridge Gym and protect Lavaridge Town.
* AscendedExtra: Is just a regular gym leader in the games, but here she becomes close friends with Ash and is one of the most prominent characters during his stay in the Hoenn region.
* ChallengeSeeker: Flannery never backs down from a challenge, be it a Pokemon battle or an arm wrestling constest with a Meditite. This is one of the reasons why she and Ash get along so well - despite him being much stronger than her, he recognizes that she possesses the same drive as him and ''will'' become stronger as well in the future, making her a WorthyOpponent in his eyes. His inner monologue even implies that he thinks that she will become the strongest Gym Leader in the region one day.
* FieryRedhead: Has red hair and just as her canon counterpart, Flannery loves to a good fight. See ChallengeSeeker above.
* PlayingWithFire: Like her grandfather, Flannery specializes in the Fire type.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Norman]]
!! Norman
Status: Active

The Normal-type Gym Leader of Petalburg City and former Ace Trainer from Johto.
----

* EdibleThemeNaming: The two Slakings he uses in a mock battle against Bruiser are named Croissant and Cannoli.
* NonElemental: He primarily specializes in Normal Types

[[/folder]]

! Sinnoh League

[[folder:Cynthia]]
!! Cynthia Carolina
Status: Active

Current Champion of the Sinnoh League
----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: She's the Champion of the Sinnoh Region and is an enthusiastic archaeologist.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: What sets her apart from most trainers. She can creatively make battle strategies on the fly, and can adapt to nearly every circumstance.
* BadassBookworm: She's both an archaeologist ''and'' one of the three strongest trainers in the National League.
* BadassLongcoat: The Sinnoh Champion is almost always seen wearing this.
* CatapultNightmare: Steven claimed that his happened often while Cynthia traveled with him and Lance, trying to help Spiritomb.
* CelebCrush: Upon meeting Ash, Ash nearly immediately develops this, even being reluctant to meet her gaze - something Ash finds uncomfortable since he had stared down ''Zapdos'' with no fear.
* CryIntoChest: According to Steven, Cynthia needed this and many [[CoolDownHug cool-down hugs]] during her first few weeks and months trying to rehabilitate her Spiritomb at its absolute worst.
* DragonTamer: Cynthia's partner and strongest pokemon is her Garchomp, Princess.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Cynthia is so compassionate and kind, that she endured constant agony from her Spiritomb just for the chance to help it.
* MasterOfAll: Cynthia was the first generalist trainer to soar high into the ranks of the National League.
* NiceGirl: Cynthia is a very kind, friendly, patient, and caring person.
* SweetTooth: Cynthia ''loves'' ice cream. So much, that she eats absolutely gargantuan amounts, and has even named at least two team members after their favorite ice cream flavor.

[[/folder]]

! Legendaries
[[folder:In General]]
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Traveler makes it very clear that attempting to challenge or catch a Legendary is a '''''bad''''' idea.
* EldritchAbomination: Played Straight. A Legend's presence alone creates a calamity that can only be stopped if the Legend leaves, or if it willfully chooses to restrain itself.
* FireIceLightning: The Legendary Birds embody these three concepts.
* KnightOfCerebus: Generally, whenever a Legend is present or mentioned in conversation, all sense of light-heartedness immediately ''stops.''
* PhysicalGod: A Legendary is a physical embodiment of the concepts of the world.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Mew]]
!! Mew

----
* AdaptationalBadass: Rather than being an OlympusMons who could be defeated and captured by a good trainer and a well-trained team like in the games, Mew is considered one of the most powerful Legends in the world.
* CurbStompCushion: [[spoiler: While Mew could not defeat Mewtwo, it ''did'' come close to doing so and ultimately saved the world by showing Mewtwo the error of his ways.]]
* GoodIsNotSoft: While Mew does mean well towards the people and pokemon of the world, [[spoiler: it is not afraid to ''kill'' Ash for Mewtwo to experience the pain of loss.]]
** Additionally, it makes it clear that if [[spoiler: Mewtwo does not repent, Mew will kill Mewtwo to end Mewtwo's threat upon the world.]]
* PhysicalGod: Like all Legendary Pokemon, it is considered this.
* StrongButUnskilled: One of the only weaknesses of a Legendary. While Mew has vast amounts of power, it has had no training or practice in honing its power. Mewtwo, on the other hand, does.
* WalkingSpoiler: Even mentioning Mew risks major spoilers about the New Island Arc being revealed.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mewtwo]]
!! Mewtwo

A Legendary created from cloning Mew's DNA and the strongest Legendary in the world.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: While he could be beaten and captured in the games, in Traveler, it's well-established that ''nothing'' can defeat or contain him.
* BigBad: Briefly served as the main antagonist of Traveler.
* BeyondTheImpossible: Mewtwo utterly laughs at the notion of dark types being immune to psychics and easily stops Sneasel's assassination attempt. He later proceeds to [[spoiler: curb-stomp Moltres and trap it under the sea, claw his way out of Mew's '''''black hole,''''' and defeat Mew in a straight fight.]]
* CurbStompBattle: When Lance, Agatha, Will, Karen, Sabrina, and a large number of ACE and League trainers invade Viridian City's gym to arrest Giovanni, Mewtwo effortlessly decimates all of them.
** Pretty much every battle against Mewtwo leads to this.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Mewtwo was... upset about finding out Giovanni never actually saw him as a friend and was only using him as a weapon for Team Rocket.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Yes. Surprisingly, even Mewtwo has a sense of humor. When Ash has a brief ImagineSpot about his hat making Mewtwo and the legendary birds stop their rampages, Mewtwo actually plays along and makes the hat float, utterly flabbergasting Ash.
* PetTheDog: When Ash has a breakdown on Jirachi's dias over the idea of having to climb down the corpses to leave the cave and begs for another way out, Mewtwo teleports him to the exit of the cave.
* SkilledAndStrong: Thanks to Giovanni and a psychic-restraining armor, Mewtwo learned to use his abilities as a focused weapon instead of throwing out power like other Legends do. This is how he [[spoiler: beat Mew. '''''Mew!''''']]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Articuno]]
!! Articuno
The Legendary embodiment of Ice.
----
* AnIcePerson: Articuno commands and embodies ice itself.
* RunOrDie: Ash and Nidorino immediately run as fast as they can away from Articuno when they encounter it at the lowest level of the Seafoam Caverns. If they hadn't, they would've immediately been frozen to death.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Zapdos]]
!! Zapdos
The Legendary embodiment of Lightning.

[[folder:Moltres]]
!! Moltres
The Legendary embodiment of Fire.
----
* GodIsGood: Due to being older than Articuno and Zapdos, the Moltres of Mt. Ember learned compassion for humanity and purposely restrains its power to avoid hurting the world. Moltres even [[spoiler: resurrects Infernus after calming down and seeing how his death made Ash cry.]]
* WhamLine: [[spoiler: ''This is a'' '''''different''''' ''Moltres.'']]
--> Ash horrifically realizing that [[spoiler: there are ''more than one'' of some Legendaries after seeing the Moltres at the Shamouti Islands act so differently from the Moltres on Mt. Ember.]]

A wanted Rogue Master hailing from Kalos, she and her team work as freelancers. Despite her criminal history, she utterly despises organizations like Team Rocket who mistreat Pokémon, and loves her own team dearly.
----
* BadassCrew: She commands a team of Master-level Pokémon able to contest Ash's team, who not only possess personal power, but superb teamwork.
* MysteriousPast: Durand's activities after leaving Kalos in PIL 988 has as many holes as a Swiss cheese, as the exact details of what she's doing in the international scene and her reasonings being unknown.
* NobleDemon: A wanted international criminal who is willing to murder in cold blood criminals like Pokémon Hunter J, but also one who loves her team dearly.
* SoleSurvivor: Her dossier implies that her failed assassination of Kalosian EliteFour member Malva had resulted in her Pokémon being killed or being apprehended, with her Shiftry and Farfetch'd being the only ones who escaped with her.
* VillainousRespect: She is a criminal who is very impressed by Ash's skills, his determination and his strong bond to his team.
-->'''Durand:''' We would not see you hurt, Ash. [[WouldNotHurtAChild You are a child]], and an honorable trainer. You love your team. You love your friends. You will be a good man one day—a great man—and the world needs as many of your kind as it can get.

----
* AlphaStrike: Tries to kill Ash by ambushing him with Perish Song and a full volley of supercharged Draco Meteors from her Mega Salamance. If it hadn't been for Lotus, she probably would have succeeded.
* BadassCrew: Commands a Master-level team of Dragon Types, including a Mega Salamence, two pseudo-legendary Dragons (Goodra and Dragapult) and a Tyrantrum.
* FalseFlagOperation: Wears an Aqua uniform, but Ash suspects (and Durand hints) that she is not really a member.
* HomeFieldAdvantage: Attacks Ash at the Sky Pillar where draconic energy gets a boost and many other skills like Torrent's water manipulation or Nidoking's earth sense don't work. And since they don't struggle with controlling the extra energy, it's implied that they have trained there before.
* ProudWarriorRaceGirl: Her comments imply that she follows the traditions of the [[MightMakesRight old Draconids]] and her Pokemon have several moves named after the founding Draconid, an infamous warlord who got her Bagon by stealing the egg from a Salamance whose trust she had gained.
* WhereDoesHeGetAllThoseWonderfulToys: She somehow has access to a mega stone, a Tyrantrum (of which there are less than 100 in the entire world) and even a warp plate, a highly classified technology.
