[[folder:Shapeshifting Monsters]]
An evil VoluntaryShapeshifting species of from the Underworld that serve as the antagonists of the second graphic novel (''Mask of the Sensei'').
----
* BluffTheImpostor: One of the shapeshifters impersonates Sensei Wu, but Zane, Jay, and Cole realize their Sensei is a fake when Cole asks if he wants a cup of tea. The real Sensei Wu would of course agree; the shapeshifter who took his place claims to hate tea.
* MasterOfDisguise: The shapeshifters can mimic anyone from the memories of those they encounter.
* NoNameGiven: The species is so old that its name has been lost to history.
* RageAgainstTheReflection: No mirror-smashing here, but seeing their own reflections is the shapeshifters' one weakness.
* SealedEvilInACan: One of the important functions of the Skeleton Army was to keep these monsters from escaping the Underworld and entering Ninjago. Then Lord Garmadon sent the Skeleton Army to attack Ninjago instead. Oops.
* SuperSmoke: The shapeshifters' [[ShapeshifterDefaultForm true form]].
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Similar to The Oni introduced in Season 9, they can change into anyone.

[[quoteright:1000:[[labelnote:Click here to see his original human apperence]] https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yangs_past.png[[/labelnote]]]]
->'''Debut:''' "The Temple on Haunted Hill"\
'''Voiced by:''' Michael Donovan

The creator of Airjitzu. In a bid for immortality, he accidentally turned himself into a spirit, with all of those who wished to be his students similarly being turned into ghosts trapped within his temple.
----
* BigBad: Of the ''Day of the Departed'' special.
* HeelFaceTurn: Has one when Cole reminds him that he would remembered forever as the creator of Airjitzu.
* ImmortalityImmorality: Cursed his students and anyone who set foot in his temple to become ghosts permanently as part of his selfish desire to live forever.
* ImmortalitySeeker: Desires to live forever, and curses anyone who enters his temple to become ghosts permanently as part of said desires.

[[folder:First Spinjitzu Master]]
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fsm_infobox.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Jim Conrad

As the name suggests, he was the first person to ever master Spinjitzu, which he used to create the realm of Ninjago with the Golden Weapons, where he fathered two sons, Wu and Garmadon, before disappearing to another realm.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: {{Inverted|Trope}}. He was actually the original user of all the ElementalPowers, having split them with the Elemental Masters.
* TheFaceless: Any time he puts in a physical appearance, his face is obscured, either because his back's to the camera, or because of the shadow of his hat. The ''only'' time his face is seen is in the ''Spinjitzu Brothers'' books, and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in "Day of the Departed".
* GreaterScopeParagon: He was the first person to master Spinjitzu and created the realm of Ninjago as well as the Golden Weapons.
* HybridPower: Season 8 reveals that he's a hybrid of dragon (begins with the power of creation) and oni (beings with the power of destruction), and he's FAR more powerful than either.
* InterspeciesRomance: He is a child born from an oni and a dragon.
* MasterOfAll: He mastered every element (except [[MakingASplash Water]] and [[BlowYouAway Wind]]).
* TheMaker: He ''created'' an entire realm by himself.
* ParentalFavoritism: In the very first episode, Garmadon claims he favored Wu. Nothing seen after has ever corroborated this, and Garmadon's not exactly the best judge of character at that time. What we see of his parenting in Season 11 also doesn't back it up.
* PosthumousCharacter: Died long ago, though the very end of "March of the Oni" shows that his spirit is still alive somewhere... else.
* WorldsStrongestMan: The most powerful being in Ninjago and possibly all of the sixteen realms, wielding creation and destruction at the highest levels of any character known in the series. He made the Golden Mech, Golden Weapons, Realm Crystal, and the entire realm of Ninjago itself. He also ''split a continent in half'' with the aforementioned Golden Mech (the mechs power is proportional to the user and even Lloyd and Wu could not achieve nearly the same effect with it). His only loss was to Wojira, and he was only a child at the time. If he was at the peak of his power during that fight, it would have gone very differently. Safe to say if he was still alive none of the villains would have stood a chance.

[[folder:Clutch Powers]]
[[quoteright:669:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clutch_powers.png]]
->'''First mentioned:''' "The Royal Blacksmiths"\
'''Debut:''' "Questing For Quests"\
'''Voiced by:''' Creator/IanJamesCorlett

A famous explorer known for his many past exploits.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: This version of Clutch Powers is a lot more arrogant, selfish, lazy and less adventurous than his original series counterpart, only exploring the discovered pyramid in Season 11 when the Explorers Club threatens to cancel his membership because he hadn't done any exploring in over a decade. He gets worse in [[spoiler:season 14 as he tries to commit outright plunder by stealing the Amulet from the Keepers.]]
* CanonForeigner: He originates from ''WesternAnimation/LegoTheAdventuresOfClutchPowers''.
%%* {{Catchphrase}}: "Gumdrops!"
* DirtyCoward: Chose to run and hide rather than help the ninja deal with Aspheera. He does so again when Kalmaar shows up, but the other members of the Explorers Club are more than willing to help.
* EyepatchOfPower: Though it's actually fake.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He's not very liked by the other members of the Explorer's Club.
* HateSink: As explained in AdaptationalJerkass, this version of Clutch has very little resemblance to his original counterpart and, despite being labeled the ninja's "ally", seems to exist for the sole purpose of creating problems rather than solving them.
* InformedAbility: SubvertedTrope. He really has the skills of an adventure, as shown when he and the ninjas explore Aspheera's pyramid. He's just rusted... and a DirtyCoward.
* InNameOnly: He is Clutch Powers by name. Personality? Not so much.
* ItsAllAboutMe: One major example is found in the Ninjago: Reimagined short "Sweatin' to the Goldies" reveals his musical movie has a number about him singing about how awesome he is.
* TheLoad: Turns out to be this in [[spoiler:Season 14, as his attempts to steal the Keepers' Amulet only lands the ninja in more trouble...]]
* MilesGloriosus:...which doesn't stop him from telling stories about his heroism back at home.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:His stealing of the Storm Amulet and bringing it back to Ninjago City allowed Kalmaar to easily steal it to control Wojira, which leads to Nya's HeroicSacrifice.]]
* PetTheDog: Clutch might be a jerk, but he refused to help Aspheera TakeOverTheWorld.
** In the next episode, he asked Nelson and Antonia to tell Master Wu and P.I.X.A.L that the ninjas were in trouble. This allowed P.I.X.A.L to save them while they were about to die.
** [[spoiler:Then again, he does show up at Nya's memorial, visibly saddened]].
* UnseenNoMore: He's first offhandedly mentioned by Cole all the way back in Season 1, but doesn't appear until Season 11.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: How good an explorer he used to be is not made clear. But what ''is'' made clear is that he has spent some time coasting on his fame and riches. He only agreed to help the Ninja in their expedition so he could keep his Explorers Club membership, and struggles during the trip, due to being sorely out of practice.

[[folder:Ulysses Trustable]]
[[quoteright:975:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ulysses_81.png]]
->'''Debut:''' "Farewell The Sea"\
'''Voiced by:''' Charles Demers

The new Mayor of Ninjago City who came into office after Nya merged with the Endless Sea. He opposes the Ninja as being too destructive and supports the New Ninja.
----
* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler:As soon as his treasured New Ninja get crystalized by the villains, he leaves the scene (and the series) by running for his life, forgetting about the rest of the city.]]
* FunWithAcronyms: His full name is Ulysses Norville Trustable, which when shortened comes out as [=UNTrustable=].
* HateSink: While he has a point in refusing the Ninja's request to let them release Aspheera, he's such a jerk that it's easy to root for the Ninja. [[spoiler:He also turns out to be a coward who will quickly abandon any pretense of wanting to help the city in favor of saving his own skin once the New Ninja end up failing to stop the Crystal King's invasion]]. In fact, pretty much the only reason for his existence is for the Ninja to remain sympathetic even after they become criminals.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:Despite his claims of wanting to protect Ninjago City, to the point of opposing the Ninja for being too destructive, he is all too willing to abandon the city and its civilians when everything goes south just to save himself.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: While extremely critical of the Ninja, he does raise valid points that previous battles with past enemies have caused a ''lot'' of property damage to the city. He's also immediately against the already dangerous idea of releasing Aspheera, regardless of the noble intentions the Ninja might have.
* MayorPain: Downplayed as he does have the city's best interests in mind [[spoiler:(at least until the New Ninja are crystalized, after which [[DirtyCoward he pretty much abandons the city to its fate]])]], he's just antagonistic towards the Ninja due to the destruction their fights cause.
* OfficeGolf: Most of his appearances consist of him practicing golf in his office, only stopping when something annoys him.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: More like "Speak ill of the separated", but the idea is played straight. Ulysses Trustable talks about how the ninjas are always causing destruction. With Nya merging with the Endless Sea not affecting his mindset at all. Noticeably, he shows the Ninja complete [[LackOfEmpathy apathy]] when they talk to him about Nya, and that was ''before'' hearing their request to release Aspheera so they can save her.
* UltimateAuthorityMayor: Considering Ninjago City is the only major city in all of Ninjago, he has considerably more power than most other mayors in fiction, as he can greenlight marshals not under Ninjago City jurisdiction to pursue the Ninja when they escape.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler:He is never seen again after making plans to escape Ninjago City.]]
