!Crossbone Vanguard
!!Tobia Arronax
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/KappeiYamaguchi
[[quoteright:267:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tobia_arronax.png]]

Main protagonist of the series. Tobia was a mechanical engineering student on an exchange trip to Jupiter, when he uncovered evidence that Jupiter may have something to hide. He joined the Crossbone Vanguard in order to do battle against them, and eventually became one of their top pilots. Even after the Jupiter Empire's defeat, he continues to work with the Vanguard to aid the Earth Federation from the shadows.

(For tropes related to him in ''Ghost'', see Curtis Rothko.)

He pilots a wide variety of mobile suits, mostly Zondo Geis and a Pez Batara, not actually getting a Gundam of his own until the Crossbone X3 is rolled out late in the manga. In the sequels, he pilots rebuilt and modified variants of the Crossbone X1.
----
* AcePilot: Being a Newtype helps, but he also has a penchant for off-the-wall tactics that few of his enemies see coming.
* AProtagonistShallLeadThem: From ''Skull Heart'' onward, he's the unofficial leader of the Crossbone Vanguard.
* BerserkButton: Two of 'em: implying that [[FantasticRacism any group of people is inherently better than the rest]], and threatening Bernadette.
* {{BFS}}: The Murasama Blaster, which emits ''fourteen'' beam blades from its physical blade when activated. It's also a beam rifle.
* CrazyPrepared: Planted bombs and traps all over his own mothership, just in case he needed to take control of it for himself at some point in the future. This works out quite well when a mutiny is carried out.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: He's declared dead by Jupiter after the battle at Zeus's Wrath. He actually survives, takes the identity of Europa's old lover Curtis Rothko, and signs on as Tetenith Dogatie's personal bodyguard.
* DeclarationOfProtection: To Bernadette after he learns that she is Jupiter's princess. He makes good on that promise. Repeatedly.
* {{Expy}}:
** Tobia is largely a more HotBlooded Amuro Ray. They're both engineering students-turned {{Ace Pilot}}s who got off to a rocky start before quickly commandeering a Gundam to great success.
** He has some similarities with Judau Ashta, namely their energetic personalities and their relationship with someone who is related to the enemy. Coincidentally, he actually ''meets'' Judau, by then an old trader under the alias "Grey Stoke."
* HotBlooded: Oh yes. It helps that he's voiced by Creator/KappeiYamaguchi in video game appearances.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Displayed beautifully in his battle on Earth against Death Gale. First he picks up burning trees and throws them at his enemies, then during that moment of confusion, grabs the Quavarze by its whips, swings it around like a flail, and smashes the Abijo with it.
* IndyPloy: A master at this. He has used bits as stepping stones, a Gundam as a ''decoy'', pre-laid bombs and electronic traps, and everything in between.
* KindHeartedCatLover: His notable quote: "Cats are my second favorite thing in the world".
* MeaningfulName: Taken after the main character of ''Literature/TwentyThousandLeaguesUnderTheSea'', whose story began in very similar circumstances to Tobia's, effectively thrown overboard only to be taken in by the supposed attackers.
* NiceGuy: Tobia is a kind, cheerful and compassionate boy who values life above all things.
* OlderThanHeLooks: He is fifteen, but looks much younger than Amuro and even Judao who is 14 years old appearing to be the same age of Uso Ewin. Even in the first time-skip, being 17-18 years old, hasn't change a bit.
* KidHero: Sort of. He's a 15-year-old HotBlooded NaiveNewcomer at the start of the story.
* OfficialCouple: Him and Bernadette. It was fairly obvious from the start.
* PsychicPowers: He's a Newtype (what a shock). A fairly powerful one too, easily surpassing Kincade's Newtype abilities in the battle against the Elefante Mobile Armor.
* SirSwearsALot: Has an extremely foul mouth, at least in the English scanslations.
* ShutUpHannibal: He doesn't take too kindly to what the villains have in store and generally responds to their prattle by calling bullshit.
* TechnicalPacifist: He adopted and kept this policy from the Crossbone Vanguard and fights mostly without aim the cockpit, but if all bets are off, he won't hesitate going for the kill shot.
* WhatTheHellHero: Tobias found spin-chilling cruel the Vanguard sparing the enemy soldiers just to send them back to their homeland where inevitably will get executed for losing the battle and according to the leader: "wasting resources.
* WouldHitAGirl: Shows Rosemary no mercy when kicking her out of the X2, and punches Sharidon to the ground in response to her Newtype supremacism.

!!Bernadette Briett (Tetenith Dogatie)
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/RioNatsuki
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bernadette_briett.png]]

A young stowaway on board the same ship that brought Tobia to Jupiter, she ends up stowing away on the ''Mother Vanguard'', and joins the Vanguard after being discovered. She has a particular friendship with Tobia.

It is later revealed that she is none other than Tetenith Dogatie, princess of the Jupiter Empire and daughter of the BigBad. However, she strongly opposes her father's plans, and fully throws her support behind the Crossbone Vanguard after her identity is revealed.
----
* AlliterativeName: Her pseudonym of Bernadette Briett.
* DiseasedName: Bernadette's real name can be read as Tetanus ([[SpellMyNameWithAnS though most fan translations romanize it as Tetanith]]). It's little wonder she prefers being called Bernadette even after the crew find out who she really is.
* TheHighQueen: Over time, she starts to approach being one. By the events of ''Ghost'', she's become a much more beloved figure among the Jovians than her father ever was. To the point that when "Curtis Rothko" and the ''Serpiente Tacon'' were tasked in secret to revive the Crossbone Vanguard, they oblige practically without question.
* LadyOfAdventure: She's clearly become this since her time with the Crossbone Vanguard. Even as Queen, she not only sets up a survey expedition around the Solar System but ''joins the voyage'' as well while still doing her duties.
* OfficialCouple: With Tobia.
* PluckyGirl: Not so much a fighter, but she is a master at stowing away in places she's not supposed to be. As time goes on, she even gets some Mobile Suit piloting experience herself.
* RebelliousPrincess: She was told by her father that Earth was populated by monstrous people with no morals. She wanted to see Earth herself to see if that was true, and after meeting the "pirates", realizes that her father is full of crap. She still tries to talk him down rather than kill him, though, as she believes he's a good person deep down.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Played with. After her father's death, she stays incognito with the Crossbone Vanguard in the Earth Sphere for a few years. However, this allows remnants of Dogatie's supporters to continue his plans back at Jupiter. Realizing that this cannot be allowed to continue, she seizes control of Jupiter after ''Steel Seven'' and claims the throne, determined to lead the now poverty-stricken and war-weary nation properly.

!!Kincade Nau (Seabook Arno)
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/KoujiTsujitani
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kincaid_85.png]]

The leader of the Crossbone Vanguard's mobile suit teams, and Berah Ronah's confidante. He has matured both as a person and as a pilot since ''Gundam F91'', and is one of the best warriors the Crossbone Vanguard possesses. He pilots the Crossbone X1 Gundam.

After the original manga's end, he takes up his old name and retires to Earth, running a bakery with Cecily.
----

* AcePilot: He's only gotten better since ''F91''. He's even able to take down the Death Gale squadron after both the X1's arms have been cut off, by exploiting holes in their attack pattern.
* {{Cyborg}}: Loses his eye and arm after crashing the X1 into the Earth from low orbit but soon gets them replaced with bionics.
* DisneyDeath: The X1 gets crippled and falls to Earth, leading everyone (except Tobia) to believe him dead. Turns out he used the beam shield to survive re-entry, though he still only survived by the skin of his teeth.
* {{Expy}}: By the events of the manga, he's become somewhat like a much more stable Quattro Bajeena.
* HappyEndingOverride: Deliberately averted. This is ''precisely'' why Tobia refuses to consider going to him in ''Steel Seven'', as he doesn't want to ruin his and Cecily's happiness.
* ThatManIsDead: Played with. Seabook Arno supposedly died in an accident years before the manga, allowing him to take up a new identity by the name of Kincade Nau. On the other hand, like Berah/Cecily, this is only meant to last for as long as they needed it to be. In fact, by the end Kincade was conveniently "killed off" so Seabook could finally live in peace with Cecily.
* TheMentor: To Tobia, both in MS piloting and in general.
* OfficialCouple: He and Berah maintain a professional relationship in front of the Vanguard, but Tobia and Bernadette quickly deduce the two are in love.
* PsychicPowers: Downplayed. He's a Newtype, but on the whole a rather weak one, and his powers don't receive very much attention.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His name is spelled "Kinkedo Now" in the Gundam Versus video game.

!!Berah Ronah (Cecily Fairchild)
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/YumiTouma
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/berah.png]]

The leader of the Crossbone Vanguard, and former heiress to the now-defunct Cosmo Babylonia. It was she who managed to repurpose the Vanguard to fighting a shadow war against the Jupiter Empire, after learning that they had secretly funded Cosmo Babylonia in an attempt to destabilize the Earth Federation.

After the original manga's end, she renounces the Ronah name and retires to Earth with Seabook.
----

* BecomingTheMask: She clearly would rather be "Cecily Fairchild" than Berah Ronah.
* BlueBlood: Technically her great grandfather purchased the title.
* TheCaptain: She struggles to maintain a composed and iron-willed persona in front of the Vanguard, but there are chinks in that armor every now and again. Most obviously when she heads to the kitchens to bake bread as a way of relaxing.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: While she takes her duties and responsibilities with stride for much of the series, the risks and immense stress she takes is clear to see. This is also in part why the rest of the Crossbone Vanguard [[LockedOutOfTheLoop purposefully keep certain information from her]], as it would put more unwarranted stress if not break her mentally.
* CoolBigSis: To Bernadette, especially after they learn Bernadette's identity, as she sees a lot of herself in the younger girl.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Most everyone knows she and Kincade are an item, despite her attempts to hide it.
* HappyPlace: When she needs to unwind, she heads down to the ''Mother Vanguard''[='s=] galley and bakes bread (which is what the Fairchild family did in ''F91'').
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She ordered the Vanguard [[ThouShaltNotKill not to kill]] Jovian pilots; however, it's a wasted effort since the returned [=POWs=] get executed as punishment for wasting valuable resources. In order to keep from stressing her even further (and possibly [[BreakTheCutie breaking her]]), the rest of the crew hides this information from her.
* NotSoStoic: For most of the series, she stays calm and collected even in the face of insurmountable odds. But though it's shown how straining it could be, the only time that mask breaks is when Kincade's X1 is falling towards Earth, going so far as to cry out his real name: Seabook.
* SupremeChef: Her bread is apparently pretty dang good, judging by Tobia's reaction.
%%* ThatWomanIsDead: By the end of the original manga, she "kills" off her Ronah persona so that Cecily can finally live in peace with Seabook.
* UptownGirl: Has this relationship with Kincade.

!!Zabine Chareux
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/KiyoyukiYanada
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zabine_crossbone.jpg]]

Former ace pilot for Cosmo Babylonia, he joined up with the revived Crossbone Vanguard out of loyalty to Berah Ronah, and still holds strong to his aristocratic beliefs. He and Kincade had a rivalry during the Cosmo Babylonia war, and they still don't entirely trust one another. He pilots the Crossbone X2 Gundam.
----

* AcePilot: Formerly the top Ace of Cosmo Babylonia, and now one of the few pilots in the Vanguard on equal footing with Kincade.
* FaceHeelTurn: He defects to the Jupiter Empire partway through the original manga, because he believes they hold ideals closer to his than the Vanguard does.
* HonorBeforeReason: To a fault. He never really let go of his nigh-fervent devotion to the aristocratic ideals he joined Cosmo Babylonia for in ''F91''. This comes at the expense of treating most the people around him as anything ''but'' lowlifes.
* TheRival: As in ''F91'', to Kincade. Even Kincade acknowledges that he and Zabine will probably never get along and will always be rivals at heart.
* UndyingLoyalty: Subverted. While he does profess fealty to Berah/Cecily, it's only insofar as she continued to uphold his ideal for aristocracy.

!!Umon Samon
!!!Voice Actors: Tadashi Miyazawa (''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha 2''), Kazumi Tanaka (''VideoGame/SDGundamGGeneration Spirits'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/umon.png]]

One of the eldest members of the Crossbone Vanguard, he is a One Year War veteran. He pilots a succession of mobile suits as needed: a Zondo Gei, a Batara, and finally a Flint.
----

* AcePilot: Consider this: he took down six Doms in the Battle of Solomon. ''With a Ball!''
* BeenThereShapedHistory: He was a rookie Ball pilot during the Battle of Solomon. His involvement is supposedly why: (A) the Zeong was so large [[note]]His Ball looked like the head of a 40-meter tall Gundam[[/note]] and (B) why Amuro was able to reach Solomon without meeting [[AcePilot Anavel Gato]] along the way [[note]]Gato heard reports of a flying Gundam head (Umon's Ball), and assumed the Gundam was destroyed, leaving his guard post and letting Amuro through the resulting defense gap[[/note]]. [[UnreliableNarrator Take this with a grain of salt though]], as he may have been exaggerating his own exploits, and he even admits that a couple of those info points are just rumors that he heard.
* CombatClairvoyance: A combination of Newtype powers and more than 50 years of battle experience makes his instincts unusually sharp.
* CoolOldGuy: His age certainly doesn't slow him down much.
* DirtyOldMan: He pinches Yona's bum in one chapter, causing her to call him a creep and say "No wonder Grandma didn't want anything to do with you!"
* PsychicPowers: Confirmed Newtype. He's one of the first to peg Tobia as a fellow Newtype as well.
* RetiredBadass: As of ''Steel 7'', he stops actively piloting and becomes the new Vanguard's chief engineer.

!!Captain Onmo
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/MichikoNeya

Captain of the Crossbone Vanguard's second ship, an unarmed freighter called the ''Little Gray''. She uses the cover of owning the civilian freight company "Blackrow Shipping" to supply the ''Mother Vanguard''. As of ''Skull Heart'', the remnants of the Vanguard use her ship as their new home base, since the ''Mother Vanguard'' was destroyed.
----

* TheCaptain: Like Berah, a young female captain, contrasting the usual "captain" archetype in the Universal Century.
* OnlyOneName: We never do learn her given name.

!!Twink Stellar Labrad
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/RieKugimiya

Introduced in ''Skull Heart'', Twink is a teenaged girl living alone on an asteroid used by the Jovians as a resupply station between Earth and Jupiter. When the Crossbone Vanguard finds her, she joins up with them. She's also revealed to be the manga series' narrator.
----

* CloudCuckoolander: In her initial appearance. She refers to herself as "The Asteroid Princess", calls her asteroid "Neverland", and insists on calling Tobia "Peter Pan". Perhaps justified in that she had been living on her own for ten years with only a few storybooks to keep herself entertained.
* ExoticeyeDesigns: To keep with her star theme, Twink also has star-shaped irises.
* ObliviousToLove: She doesn't seem to notice Harrison's rather obvious attraction to her. Later, when the Vanguard are discussing the progress of Tobia's and Bernadette's relationship, she is puzzled as to what everyone is talking about.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her parents were miners working on the asteroid when the Jovians forcefully repurposed it for their resupply base. Twink's parents were killed in the struggle, but Twink herself was left alive, and seemingly ignored by the Jovians for the most part.

!Jupiter Empire

!!Crux Dogatie
!!!Voice Actors: Creator/IchiroNagai (''VideoGame/SDGundamGGeneration F'' and ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha 2''), Creator/{{Mugihito}} (''VideoGame/SDGundamGGeneration Spirits'' onwards)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dogatie.png]]

The leader of the Jupiter Empire, an old man who harbors a deep hatred of the Earth Federation. It was he who funded the Cosmo Babylonia uprising, as well as numerous other small pockets of warfare around the Earth Sphere, in preparation for launching his own assault on Earth.
----
* AbusiveParents: While it's implied that he DOES feel some level of affection for his daughter, he also has no problem forcing her to pilot a mobile armor and fight her love interest in a battle to the death.
* ActuallyADoomBot: The Crossbone Vanguard thinks they've cornered him in Vol. 3. Surprise! It's an android controlled by one of nine copies of his mind into different bio-computers. Similar copies pilot copies of his own Mobile Armor, the Divinidad.
* BigBad: Of the original manga series.
* CrazyPrepared: The mere fact that he essentially had ''backup copies of his mind'' made in bio-computers (which also control lookalike androids) on the off-chance that someone or something would kill him. Not to mention having said copies have versions of his own Mobile Armor, the Divinidad, which itself has a payload of several nukes.
* EvilOldFolks: He's a very old man who remembers migrating to the then-new Jovian colonies several decades before the events of the manga. Needless to say, he's long since gone off the deep end.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamF91'', since he funded Cosmo Babylonia. His philosophies also inspired the Big Bads of the ''Crossbone'' sequels and even Fonse Kagatie (who may or may not be related to him) from ''Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam''. in short, his influence dominates the late UC era much like Zeon did in the earlier UC shows.
* GreenEyedMonster: During his final battle with Tobia he makes it clear that a large part of his hatred towards Earth comes from the fact that they're nice enough place that they can afford to produce kind hearted people whereas Jupiter is a miserable hellscape.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: His old grudges against the Earth Federation in his youth over time turned into an utter hatred of the Earth's ''mere existence.''
* LoveMakesYouEvil: He is noted to have been a fair ruler in the past, but the pure kindness shown by his Earthborn wife revealed just how cold he had become by comparison, hence his hatred for the Earth. Tobia takes this as proof that Dogatie still did have a human heart, twisted and broken though it was.
* MayDecemberRomance: Though his first marriage was politically-motivated, and with a woman nearly sixty years his junior, it seems the two of them did love each other to some extent.
* NukeEm: He's very fond of nuclear weapons. His Divinidad has no fewer than ''sixteen'' warheads within it.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He has many faults, but laziness certainly isn't one of them. He is credited with the Jupiter colonies' survival for the decades he's been their ruler (how much of this is Jovian propaganda is up for debate), he's the one who militarized Jupiter, he's very active as a diplomat to the Earth Sphere, and he even personally flies the big superweapon into battle in the end. Oh, and he does all this while being so old that he's on constant life support.
* UglyGuyHotWife: Both Danae (his first wife) and Europa (his second wife) were utter bombshells while he was a rather decrepit old man.
* WetwareCPU: The bio-computers that effectively serve as ''backup copies of his mind'', allowing him to control lookalike androids and version of the Divinidad. Only in wiping out every single one of said copies does he finally get defeated.

!!Professor Karas
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/{{Chafurin}}

A high-ranking Jupiter nobleman, and one of Dogatie's most trusted agents. He puts Jovian Newtypes through TrainingFromHell to become expert pilots. He was considering Tobia for one of his students, and continues to try to get Tobia to join him throughout the series.
----

* TheDragon: He functions as Dogatie's.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He tries to act nice, though most of it really is an act.
* GracefulLoser: To Tobia's surprise, he uses the last of the Nautilus's power to shoot down a half-dead enemy behind Tobia, who was preparing to shoot Tobia in the back. Karas explains that Tobia won the fight, and as the losers, his team had no right to try to take that away from him.
* TheRival: Becomes something of Tobia's main rival throughout the story, often crossing paths and doing battle with him.
* SocialDarwinist: His particular philosophy. This is a particular BerserkButton for Tobia.
* TrainingFromHell: His Newtype students come out of their training... not well in the head. On the other hand, all the "graduates" of his training we see are ''exceedingly'' dangerous pilots.

!!Europa Dogatie
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/ShizukaIto

Crux's second wife, and Bernadette's stepmother. She is introduced in ''Steel Seven'' when she arrives at Earth to inform the Federation of the Jovian Colony Laser, "Zeus's Wrath".

She signs on as a member of the "Steel Seven", and takes overall battlefield command from her Angel Diona.
----

* AdoptivePeerParent: Her exact age is not revealed, though she certainly appears to be in her twenties. If true, this would make her only ten years older than her stepdaughter.
* DefectorFromDecadence: A pretty nice person overall, and she and Tetenith have a warm relationship despite not being blood-related. Surprising, coming from Jovian nobility.
* KilledOffForReal: In the colony laser's explosion. She uses the last of her strength to try to throw Tobia clear.
* ManchurianAgent: Not by choice. Her brothers can read her mind, so they deliberately allowed her to make contact with the Crossbone Vanguard, so they'd have a perfect spy in place.
* MrsRobinson: She falls for Tobia, who is the same age as her step daughter.

!!Callisto
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/AkiraSasanuma

Europa's younger twin brothers, who have assumed leadership of Jupiter since Dogatie's death, and plan to continue his goal of annihilating life on Earth. They are considered one person in two bodies due to constantly being mentally linked with one another. The two are individually referred to as "Callisto's Light" and "Callisto's Shadow".
----

* AcePilot: Callisto's Shadow, in the Cornigs, takes no fewer than three very experienced pilots to bring him down, and all three of them got trashed in the process. Both brothers pilot the Dictus and Digitus units in the final battle as well, and are personally responsible for all of the deaths among the Steel 7.
* BigBad: Of ''Steel Seven''.
* BrainUploading: Happens to Callisto's Shadow after his death on Earth. His mind is transferred through Callisto's Light into a bio-computer, and he continues to fight on.
* TheDividual: So closely linked mentally that it sometimes seems as though even ''they'' consider themselves to be a single person.
* PretentiousLatinMotto: The names of their twin mobile suits: "Jurisdis Sinistra Dictus", the "Left that Dictates Justice", and "Libertas Dextra Digitus", the "Right that Brings Freedom".
* RoyalWe: Due to their link, they always refer to themselves in the plural.
* TwinTelepathy: Their unique brand of Newtype powers. They're so closely linked that they are sometimes referred to as a single entity.

!!Barnes Gernsback
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/ShozoIizuka

A pilot who befriends Tobia when the latter sneaks into the Jupiter Empire. He later becomes a member of "Death Gale", an elite piloting team created specifically to destroy the Crossbone Vanguard. He pilots the large, defense-oriented Tortuga.

He retires to the countryside after the war, but is recruited as a member of the Steel Seven, piloting the Barra Tortuga with his old Death Gale team.
----

* HeroicSacrifice: Takes the bullet for Giri in the battle at Zeus's Wrath, to allow him to accomplish their mission.
* GreyAndGreyMorality: He's the first to explain to Tobia the Jovian peoples' motivations in the war: namely, they're running dangerously low on resources they need to survive, while the Earth Sphere gets to enjoy comparatively unlimited resources. The Jovians feel like they need to take what they need in order to survive. Tobia finds it hard to argue with that, after seeing the supply rationing among the Jovian civilians.
* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: He suggests recruiting his old Death Gale teammates as part of the Steel Seven.
* StoneWall: The Tortuga's role in Death Gale. He's meant to intercept powerful attacks and defend his comrades.

!!Giri Gadeucca Aspis
!!!Voice Actors: Mari Mashiba, Creator/TetsuyaIwanaga (''Steel Seven'' era)

Leader of the Death Gale squadron. Though young, he's a powerful Newtype soldier who is meant to become one of the ruling elite in Dogatie's new order. He pilots the Quavarze, Death Gale's attack-oriented mobile suit.

After the war, he becomes a cook, but is hired back as part of the Steel Seven. He pilots a Vigna Ghina II in the final battle.
----

* GlassCannon: The Quavarze is quick and powerful, and is Death Gale's frontline fighter. However, its armor is pretty weak.
* HeroicSacrifice: Rams Zeus's Wrath at the last second, throwing its aim off by a tenth of a degree... which equated to it missing by more than 600 million miles.
* InterruptedSuicide: After his defeat in the original series, he attempts to kill himself, which is not all that surprising considering the [[YouHaveFailedMe Jupiter Empire's treatment]] of those who lose their machines. Barnes stops him.
* ImpossiblyCoolWeapon: His main weapon is beam buzzsaws mounted on the end of long whips, giving him long reach in close combat.
* ItsPersonal: Callisto always derisively refers to him as "Number 2", since Callisto was the top graduate of Karas. Giri resents this.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: He makes it quite clear he doesn't give a damn about Earth, the Federation, or Jupiter. The only reason he joins up with the Steel Seven is the chance to ruin Callisto's well-laid plans.
* SupremeChef: To everyone's surprise, he is a master cook.

!!Rosemary Raspberry
!!!Voice Actor: Mari Maruta

The third member of Death Gale, and the only female member of the team. Her job is to limit the enemy's movements and prevent their escape. She pilots the Abijo.

In ''Steel Seven'', she is recruited as one of the team, piloting the Alana Abijo. She is one of the few that survives the battle.
----
* AlliterativeName: Until the end of ''Steel 7'', where she marries Suzuki.
* NavelDeepNeckline: She has a habit of wearing her pilot suit unzipped to her midriff
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Says so several times throughout the series. She's the easiest "Steel Seven" member to recruit, as all they had to do was promise to pay her.
* YouCanLeaveYourHatOn: She's found working as a stripper in ''Steel Seven''.

A Federation Ace piloting a dark blue custom F91 Gundam. Though he looks upon the Crossbone Vanguard as pirates, he is willing to fight alongside them if their goals coincide.
----

* AcePilot: One of the few the Federation has left. He's good enough to go up against Kincade evenly.
* BackToBackBadasses: With the X1 Skull Heart, when fighting Newtype monkeys.
* BadassNormal: He can hold his own handily against Newtypes.
* BigDamnHeroes: "Crossbone Vanguard! Your goals are known to us! We will aid you in breaking through!"
* EnemyMine: In the final battle against Dogatie, where he helps Kincade and Tobia break through, and then promises that he will find them a good lawyer for their trial.
* OnlySaneMan: He also happens to be one of the handful of competent Federation officers left in the late UC era.
* RedBaron: The Blue Flash of the Federation.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: And gets discharged from the Federation forces for his troubles. He does however wind up siding with the Vanguard.
* SelectiveObliviousness: For the most part, he seems pretty intelligent, but he just can't seem to grasp the fact that Tobia and the Crossbone Vanguard are connected in any way.
-->'''Harrison''': Hey wait! Why's that civilian kid in the pirates' Gundam!?
* WorthyOpponent: He eventually sees the Crossbone Vanguard, especially Tobia as this. Even going to so far as to offer good lawyers if he captures them for trial.

!!Minoru Suzuki
!!!Voice Actor: [[Creator/YuichiNagashima Cho]]

An engineer for SNRI, he is the original designer of the F99 Recordbreaker units. In ''Steel Seven'', he is recruited as one of the eponymous Steel Seven to go against Jupiter's new Colony Laser, piloting a leftover F90 Gundam.
----

* AcePilot: In his youth. His piloting skills aren't quite what they used to be anymore, but they are still formidable.
* MayDecemberRomance: He marries Rosemary in the epilogue.
* TheMentor: Explicitly mentioned as such to the three F99 test pilots, and to Lt. Harrison.
* RedBaron: He was the original "Blue Flash of the Federation", before passing that name on to Harrison.

!!Mitchell "Derek" Naa
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/RikiyaKoyama

One of the F99 Recordbreaker test pilots. Since he is just a test pilot and not a soldier, he has a tough time going into battle because he isn't used to killing others. He conquers this fear in order to become one of the "Steel Seven" and defeat Jupiter, flying an F91 Gundam.
----

* AcePilot: He's an excellent pilot, but isn't used to actually ''fighting'', which hinders him in battle.
* DiabolusExMachina: He takes down Callisto's Shadow almost on his own, and avenges the deaths of his old team. Then C's Shadow shoots him in the back with the last of his power.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: "Mitchell". When it's revealed, he calmly replies, "That's why I go by my middle name."

!!Sharidon Ronah
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/AkikoKimura

Berah's cousin, and one of the survivors of the Ronah clan since Cosmo Babylonia's collapse. She maintains some measure of political power and wishes for a Newtype aristocracy to come to pass in the Earth Sphere, believing that this is the only way humanity will ever be at peace.
----

* AffectionateNickname: Berah calls her "Sherry". She doesn't appear to mind.
* TheCaptain: Of the ''Eos Nyx'', the ''Mother Vanguard'''s sister ship, which is unarmed and used as a transport vessel.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Her vision of a Newtype aristocracy is very similar to the supposed ideals of the Zanscare Empire from ''Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam.'' She's also described as funding certain figures implied to be the Empire's founders.
* PsychicPowers: A potent Newtype herself. She offers to help Tobia unlock his true potential as a Newtype, if he in turn joins her in her ambitions.
* TheRemnant: She's the one holding the remains of Cosmo Babylonia together.
* WildCard: Helps the Federation and Jovians hunt down the Crossbone Vanguard one chapter, leads a huge fleet of colonial warships against Dogatie in another.

!!Grey Stoke (Judau Ashta)
!!!Voice Actor: Creator/KazukiYao

An old, mysterious Jovian trader who runs his own ''Jupitris''-class vessel and owns a beat-up looking mobile suit called the Gump. He meets Tobia in order to help him stop Jovian extremists from exploiting Amuro Ray's combat data in ''Skull Heart.'' It's also revealed however that he and the Gump [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ have seen their share of adventures]]. He also reappears in a ''Victory Gundam'' sidestory alongside Usso Evin.
----

* BadassInANiceSuit: He shows up in rather [[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120413134327/gundam/images/f/f9/117937.jpg nicely tailored suit]].
* CoolOldGuy: Even as an old man, there's still a lot of the young Judau in there.
* DentedIron: While he's still a skilled pilot ''and'' one of the most powerful Newtypes known, it's implied that the ensuing decades since the events of ''ZZ Gundam'' haven't been all fun and games for him in the slightest. And by ''Victory'' is so fed up with all the bloodshed that he just wants to ''leave it all.''
** This even extends to his Gundam. He's still using the Double Zeta, but after countless decades he's long since run out of spare parts, leaving it a frankensteinian patchwork of scrap metal, complete with what appears to be a peg leg, that no longer has the ability to transform. Virtually the only original part of it that's still in perfect working order is its head, due to being encased in a gigantic, tube-like covering and only exposed to fire its fearsome [[WaveMotionGun hyper mega particle cannon]].
* HotBlooded: He's definitely mellowed down a bit with age, though it still shows up.
* MeaningfulName: Grey Stoke's name is taken from Lord Greystoke, Tarzan's nobleman alterego. And similarly with Tarzan's disillusionment with civilization, Stoke (aka Judau Ashta) is ''tired'' of the CrapsackWorld that's the Universal Century. Which drives his decades-long plan of leaving the rest of mankind forever with a colony full of Newtypes.
* OlderAndWiser: He knows a lot more than he initially lets on.
* PsychicPowers: He's among the top 3 most powerful Newtypes to ever live, and has been steadily developing his powers since the age of 14. Though he doesn't really show off his powers until the events of ''Victory Gundam'', when fighting a Zanscare Newtype squad. Notably, he also displays far more fine control over them than any other Newtype in the franchise, to the point that he has casual and ''deliberate'' telepathic conversations with his Newtype crew members.
* RetiredBadass: Downplayed. While his days as Judau are long over, he's clearly kept himself (and the Gump) busy over the past decades.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: By the time the events of ''Victory Gundam'' roll around, it's revealed that he and a community full of Newtypes decide to ditch the Earth Sphere altogether and use a modified colony as a GenerationShip bound for Proxima Centauri, where they could finally live in peace. In other words, this is Judau's attitude at the end of ''ZZ'' taken to its logical conclusion.
* SeenItAll: He's been around for so long and witnessed enough of the previous UC events that it's actually making him tired of all the bloodshed going on in the Earth Sphere.
* StillGotIt: Time hasn't really dampened his piloting skills or Newtype powers. And for an old machine with many jury-rigged parts, the Gump is very much the ZZ Gundam it used to be.
* WhatTheHellHero: By ''Victory Gundam'', Usso Evin calls him out on this for his decades-long plan of leaving Earth and the rest of humanity behind. Grey Stoke himself even admits that the plan is really a long-shot and likely to end up repeating the same mistakes of the past, but nonetheless believes that it would be a first step to better things.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ghost]]
!Serpiente Tacon (revived Crossbone Vanguard)
!!Font Baud

The protagonist of the story. He's an amateur hacker living on Side 3 that happened to stumble on leaked information regarding Zanscare's Angel Halo. He has joined up with Serpiente Tacon for their protection.

He pilots an ancient Zaku II that he stole in a hurry from a museum.
----

* ActionSurvivor: To a degree.
* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: His Zaku II, which he has to continue using since there are no spare mobile suits for him. It helps as well that the mobile suit in question is so old that neither Jovian nor Zanscare suits can identify it.
* ConspiracyTheorist: He thinks that Anaheim Electronics' disavowed GP series from ''0083'' existed, which by then had long since been forgotten. He also believes that the Angel Halo is something utterly sinister. He's right on ''both'' counts.
* NonActionGuy: He can pilot a mobile suit to some degree, but given it's a seventy-year-old junker he doesn't take part in combat.
* PlayfulHacker: He doesn't seem to be involved in anything illegal, and he puts his computer skills to good use for the new Crossbone Vanguard.

!!Curtis Rothko

The leader of Serpiente Tacon. Although blind, he is a formidable mobile suit pilot and an exceptional strategist. In reality, known only to Tetenith Dogatie, he is Tobia Arronax, who had to take up a new identity to live in the Jupiter Sphere, and is Belle's father.

He pilots a leftover Crossbone Gundam found in a derelict ship, the X0 "Ghost". It has been outfitted with a specialized cockpit that delivers information aurally instead of visually, allowing him to pilot it despite his blindness.
----
* AceCustom: After going blind during the events of Steel Seven, he has the Crossbone Gundam refurbished with a special sound system designed to allow him to recognize what weapons are being used against him by the sound they make, allowing him to go back to being a terribly effective pilot and defeat new mobile suits with his comparatively outdated one.
* AcePilot: While blind, he still took on three Victory Gundams at once and held his own, in a 20 year old, partly jury-rigged Gundam, no less.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He somewhat resembles a tanned Carl Sagan whenever he wears his civilian getup.
* BodyguardCrush: On Tetenith Dogatie. The two aren't officially married, but they did have a daughter together.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: He covers up the real Curtis Rothko's death by claiming that he barely survived the battle that killed him and has amnesia about his past. This is enough to fool Curtis's old friends, but they begin to get suspicious of him over the years...
* DeadpanSnarker: He's definitely become one over the years, staying casual and nonchalant for the most part. The moment he drops the snark however, things ''really'' get serious.
* HandicappedBadass: Foregoes the use of bionic eyes despite Kincaid getting one in the previous series (and functional artificial eyes having existed at least since the ''Zeta'' era according to [[AllThereInTheManual some sourcebooks]]). Still, if you think being blind is going to slow him down, think again...
* OlderAndWiser: He's definitely grown up since the events of the original manga, though he still keeps his casual, easygoing persona.
* PaperThinDisguise: Averted. While there's still enough of Tobia that's recognizable, he's clearly done quite a bit of work to keep up appearances. On the other hand it doesn't work for everyone, as certain people who knew the ''original'' Curtis Rothko years before eventually start suspecting him.
* SurgicalImpersonation: He's brown-skinned and black-haired, compared to Tobia's white skin and light brown hair, suggesting that he used this to increase his disguise's effectiveness.

!!Belle Dogatie

The young princess of Jupiter, who is now travelling with Serpiente Tacon after stowing away aboard their ship. As she was born in the middle of a voyage to Saturn, she has never been around other people her own age, and is very happy to meet Font, whom she considers her first real friend.
----
* GenerationXerox: Like her mother before her, she has a habit of stowing away and sneaking around where she isn't supposed to be. She's not much of a fighter, but she is brave when faced with danger.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Being princess and all, she's never been mistreated. But everyone she's ever known has been at least twenty years older than her, so she feels lonely regardless.
* ParentalAbandonment: From her perspective. She's been kept in the dark as to who her father is, but she suspects (correctly) that it's Curtis.
* PsychicPowers: Can mentally link with Curtis and allow him to see through her eyes.

![=ThouCus=]
!!Jack Friday

The first member of [=ThouCus=] met by Serpiente Tacon, Friday pilots the Desphys mobile suit, which he claims has the ability to take down 1,000 mobile suits on its own.
----

* BloodKnight: Loves combat. He will even turn on his allies if they interrupt a battle.
* HelicopterBlender: He uses his beam rotors this way in close combat.

!!Quo Gray

The apparent leader of [=ThouCus=]. He is pursuing "Angel's Call" so that he may sell it to the Zanscare Empire.
----

* AffablyEvil: He acts more like a team manager and salesman than a handler of homicidal ex-criminals who could potentially turn on him at any moment.
* BigBad: Closest thing the series has at the moment.
* InSeriesNickname: Mostly known as "Boss" by his subordinates.

!Zanscare Empire
!!Vice Admiral Kizo

A prominent figure in the Zanscare Empire. He has a strong interest in acquiring "Angel's Call" and the services of the [=ThouCus=] in order to forward the Empire's ultimate plan for the Angel Halo as well as his own ambitions.
----

* AristocratsAreEvil: Befitting a high-ranking Zanscare figure, he has far more in common with the smug, elitist megalomaniacs actually running the Empire than the Queen he swears his fealty to.
* BadBoss: He clearly doesn't give a single damn about people he deem as being of no use to him. To the point that the men he sent to meet the [=ThouCus=] wind up as target practice on his orders just to seal the deal.
