!The first four classes

A noble axe-wielding fighter who is the big physical powerhouse class. He has the strongest basic attacks and lots of health to back him up alongside decent speed, his armor and magical abilities leave much to be desired though. It is later revealed his home is the volcanic Mountain Kingdom.
----
* BarbarianHero: A classic example, a brutish and compassionate warrior with a love of melee combat.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: He's a big tough barbarian who carries a giant axe.
* Expy: He's essentially Conan the Barbarian with an axe.
* GlassCannon: High strength and low armor. He does have a lot of health so he still does really well in melee combat, but if it takes too long he's in trouble.
* RedIsViolent: His usual color is a flaming red.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He wears no armor on his chest. This would help explain his less good Armor stat.

A beautiful woman fighter with heavy armor. Her great tankiness combined with having good numbers in the other stats makes her really good for beginners, with her only real weakness being her low speed. She is also a diligent soldier of the Castle Stronghold.
----
* AdaptationalModesty: Her 2014 design. She is fully clothed and looks more like a traditional nordic warrior.
* AttackReflector: Her shield can reflect projectiles in the 2014 game.
* AwesomeButImpractical: In the 2014 game, she can toss her shield that destroys multiple enemies quickly. However, she is left defenseless, the shield throw is hard to control and it can accidentally destroy food.
* ChainmailBikini: One of the most iconic in gaming, being an almost literal bikini in some games. It must be incredibly well-made given how good Thyra’s armor stat is.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Her usual main weapon is a sword.
* JackOfAllStats: The balanced character of the four, although her armor makes her a StoneWall-leaning one.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: She carries a shield, but actually uses it in the 2014 game.
* MsFanservice: Every entry, except for 2014. There's official art of her Legends/Dark Legacy incarnation sunbathing topless (with her arm over her chest).
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Her most common way of attacking is throwing her sword.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her usual color is a deep blue.

An energetic elf who is a master of the bow. He has by far the best speed and is pretty good with magic, his strength is weak though and so is his armor.
----
* FragileSpeedster: Speed is his highest stat whilst his armor is dreadful. Questor’s best form of defense is running circles around his enemies.
* TookALevelInBadass: On the NES game. He starts with with very low HP and mediocre stats outside of speed. However, maxing out his treasures gives him the highest HP in the game and collecting the 5 powerups make up the lack of stats.

A wise old wizard who is a master with magic. He gets the most out of using potions and his regular attacks do a lot of damage, his armor and speed through are both awful making him the toughest character to play as.
----
* DifficultButAwesome: It is incredibly hard to survive as Merlin, especially in single player where he has no allies to help tank for him. Play smart with his super damaging attacks and potions though and he can single handedly take on whole levels.
* MechanicallyUnusualClass: Befitting his status as the Gimmick character, the Wizard's gameplay in the 2014 game is somewhat similar to Magicka, where you need to get the spell by combining elements.
* SquishyWizard: Magic is his best stat, but armor is his worst.

!The Classes of Legends and Dark Legacy

An younger wizard who hails from the dry Desert Lands. His stats are just like Merlin's.
----
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Is quite ripped, but incredibly frail.
* SquishyWizard: Very weak in melee combat, but has the highest shot strength and magic damage among the starting four/eight.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Is Merlin but younger and with an Egyptian motif. His Blue palette is Merlin.

A sneaky female elf from the Forest. Her stats are identical to Questor's.
----
* NavelDeepNeckline: Ner outfit has a plunging neckline that exposes part of her stomach.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Is essentially a female Questor. Supposedly, she was included because Midway was iffy with Questor's AmbiguousGender.

A stout dwarf from the Ice Domain. Compared to Thor, the Dwarf is even slower but makes up for this by having better armor.
----
* MightyGlacier: Can deal a lot of damage and is the tankiest character who isn’t an armor specialist like the Valkyrie and Knight.
* OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame: A boisterous little warrior who wields a big battle hammer and comes from a land high in the mountains.

An honorable paladin who comes from the flying Sky Dominion. His magical abilities aren't as good as Thyra's, though his strength is better.
----
* MightyGlacier: Capable of both taking a lot of damage and dealing a lot of damage. Just like Thyra, he is especially good for beginners thanks to his great survivability alongside superior damage.
* EpicFlail: Wields a powerful morningstar, one of his Turbo attacks has him make the bludgeon grow in size and spin off like a huge wheel.

An incredibly voluptuous witch who comes from the Forsaken Province. Her strength is even worse than the Wizard's, but her greater speed helps with survival.
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: Comes from the Forsaken Province and practices necromancy, but is firmly on the side of good.
* FragileSpeedster: Is the most frail character in the game, but her better speed allows her to make the most out of her strong shots and potion bombs.
* MsFanservice: Is enormously endowed and is the most scantily clad character in the game.

A crazy but noble entertainer who hails from the Dream Realm. He isn't quite as nimble as the Archer, but his magical power is superior.
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: The Jester does have a love of chaos, but he prefers good-natured mischief and not the twisted madness that has invaded and tainted the Dream Realm.
* LoonWithAHeartOfGold: Is clearly off his rocker, but is no less heroic for it.
* NonIronicClown: He frankly looks terrifying, he is also perfectly nice and fights to save the world.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: His weapon of choice is an infinite supply of bombs, for his stronger attack he whacks them with his magic staff like a bat causing them to grow in size.

!Other Important Characters

A golden-clad and wise wizard who helps the heroes confront Skorne and acts as the narrator in Legends and Dark Legacy.
----
* TheAce: Sumner has maxed out stats, making him the best character the player can access.
* BigGood: A mighty benevolent wizard who guides and advises the heroes.
* BraggingRightsReward: Sumner can only be unlocked in the Battlefield stages, which is right near the end of the game. By the time you do unlock him, you've already beaten everything else except the PostFinalBoss and maybe a stage or two.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: In Dark Legacy, Sumner defeats Skorne after he is first summoned, at the cost of using up his strength and leaving him too weak to journey through the realms. Hence why he summons the other heroes.
* LargeHam: Sumner acts as the narrator for Legends and Dark Legacy. He is a LargeHamAnnouncer whose every word is as dramatic as possible.
* PurposelyOverpowered: The hardest character to unlock in Legends and Dark Legacy, but he has the power to match his station - literally all of his stats are maxed.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Sumner is a BenevolentMageRuler and the strongest character in the game. In Dark Legacy's version of events, Sumner defeated Skorne after he was summoned and forced him to flee the Desecrated Temple.
* SquishyWizard: Nope, Sumner has maxed out stats, so he is more durable than the physical fighters.
* WhatTheHellHero: If one of the characters takes a lot of food when someone else could use it, Sumner will comment "You are greedy!".

A powerful demon who intends to take over the world.
----
* BigBad: Of both Legends and Dark Legacy.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: While he acts as the BigBad in Dark Legacy, after Skorne is defeated, Garm takes what is left of his power to become the villain for the final leg of the game.
* EvilIsNotAToy: As Garm found out the hard way, Skorne, a powerful demon prince, is not a being who can be controlled easily. In Legends, Garm's spell to control him fails because his satisfaction in summoning the demon causes him to let his guard down, and Skorne breaks free from his control. In Dark Legacy, Garm gets impatient and does not gather the thirteenth rune stone before summoning, and cannot control him without it. This gets Garm killed and his soul DraggedOfftoHell for his troubles.
* LargeHam: Skorne will mock the player if they miss a runestone, and in Legends, after they defeat a boss, he will talk about the gruesome death he has planned for them. Like Sumner, he has NoIndoorVoice, on top of bookending his dialogue with an EvilLaugh.
* PunnyName: His name is "Skorne", which is pronounced the same way as "scorn". As in, he "scorns" the heroes and everything that opposes him, and vice versa.

Sumner's foolish younger brother who is responsible for the rise of Skorne.
----
* BigBadWannabe: He summoned the demon Skorne in hopes of controlling him and using his power to take over the world. It didn't work. Garm only becomes a threat after absorbing Skorne's lingering power after the heroes deal with the demon.
* CainAndAbel: The evil brother of the benign Sumner.
* GreenEyedMonster: Garm's motivation for unleashing Skorne was his intense jealousy of his older brother Sumner's success.
* PostFinalBoss: After the epic clash against Skorne, you would expect the heroes to reach the end of the game. Instead, Garm steals what's left of Skorne's power and becomes a threat to the eight realms in Dark Legacy. You now have to go through another realm and another boss in order to finish the game. He is seen as easier than Skorne since, unlike the latter, you do have an opportunity to prepare, i.e recover health and buy power-ups.
