!!Aichi Sendou
!!!Royal Paladin (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/TsubasaYonaga (JP), [[Creator/TimHamaguchi James Beach]] (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aichi_picture.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Aichi in the High School arc onward]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aichi_again_again_again.png]][[/labelnote]]
A shy middle school student. He was given the Blaster Blade card by Kai after the latter ran into him after he had been bullied. Years later, this same card being stolen led him to Card Capital where he met with Kai again. In the Highschool arc, he is now a student at Miyaji Academy and seeks to establish a Cardfight Club.\

Aichi plays a Royal Paladin deck centered around his avatar card Blaster Blade which he supports through the use of the Alfred cards whose skills make it easier to call him. He also focuses on filling up his rearguard circles by calling additional allies through other means for card advantage while increasing the power of his units through the use of their skills or the Force gift marker thus giving his deck a good balance of attack and defense.
----
* TheAce: He becomes this in Cardfights at least in the end of the first arc since he's the champion of the Asia Circuit.
* AdaptationalBadass: In this series he has Grade 3 cards in his deck from the start and more than one copy of Blaster Blade. He was also able to defeat Kamui in their first Cardfight instead of the other way around.
* AdaptationalHeroism: [[spoiler: Unlike in the original series, this Aichi didn't get DrunkOnTheDarkSide after unlocking [=PSYQualia=] and only [[BrainwashedAndCrazy turned evil against his will]] after Naoki (who was a [=PSYQualia=] Zombie at that time) bested him in a cardfight.]]
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: In the original anime, Aichi briefly switched to Shadow Paladin during the first season and would later switch to Gold Paladin during the second and third seasons whereas here he only uses Royal Paladin and never changes clans with Kourin taking up the role of being the main Gold Paladin user.
* BackToBaseForm: Exculplate the Blaster is Blaster Blade's SuperMode whose skill allows it to attack an opponents entire field, only for it to transform back into Blaster Blade for an aditional attack.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While normally a very nice guy, his enemies should '''not''' make him angry or else they'll regret it. For example:
** When Kyou defeats Kamui and throws his deck to the ground and calls it worthless. He tells Nagisa she doesn't have to pick up Kamui's cards, because it's Kyou's job. He then challenges Kyou to a fight where if he wins, Kyou will have to pick up Kamui's cards, then proceeds to beat Kyou at his own game.
** It strikes again when he [[spoiler:sees Ibuki delete Kyou.]] This act is so horrible, in Aichi's eyes, that he slams the table [[spoiler:Ibuki and Kyou]] were playing at, and he says that he will ''never'' forgive them for doing that. He even [[spoiler:steals Ibuki's deck so he won't delete anyone else!]]
** It goes even beyond that when [[spoiler:he learns that Ibuki deleted Kai.]] Even [[spoiler:as a [=PSYQualia=] Zombie]], he gets so ''enraged'' at [[spoiler:Ibuki]], that he challenges them to a cardfight [[spoiler:despite the Destiny Conductor trying to assert his control over him!]] [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness Aichi shakes with anger, grits his teeth, slams the table, and even exclaims a Japanese profanity (In the subbed version, at least).]]
* ChickMagnet: He has the attention of both Misaki and Kourin, even Suiko has called him adorable and glomped him once, much to Kourin's chargin.
* DarkHorseVictory: This is how his victory of the Asia Circuit is seen as in-universe since anyone outside of Card Capital or people who know him, only see him as a strong fighter that came out of nowhere and managed to win the first tournament he participated in.
* DiscardAndDraw: In the High School arc he retires Exculplate the Blaster for Monarch Sanctuary Alfred.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Even more so than his original series counterpart, and that’s saying something.
* EleventhHourSuperpower:
** In the near end of the Foo Fighter arc he obtains the Grade 4 Exculpate the Blaster at the end of his fight with Ren.
** The end of the Highschool arc has him [[spoiler:get two of these in a row thanks to the inhabitants of Cray sending him their support. He first obtains Arc Saver Dragon in his fight against Ibuki and then Messianic Lord Blaster against the Destiny Conductor.]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: [[spoiler:After becoming a [=PSYqualia=] zombie, Aichi's voice becomes deeper.]]
* IconicItem: His avatar, Blaster Blade. This time around, he has more than one copy of it, but the one Kai gave him has a different artwork than the rest.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: While he retired his usage of [=PSYqualia=] since he's already strong enough without it. He's still able to use it consciously, but only does it when it's truly needed. In fact he along with Ren didn't use [=PSYqualia=] till a point Tetsu and Suiko thought they may have lost it.
* KnightInShiningArmor: His deck is comprised of these.
* LuminescentBlush: Aichi is frequently shown blushing, it's hard to find an episode where he doesn't at least once.
* MessianicArchetype: Evolves into one towards the end of the Highschool arc with [[spoiler:Ibuki]] even calling him a "neo-messiah" [[spoiler: after he defeats the Destiny Conductor, saving both worlds. Fittingly, the unit he uses to do so is named ''Messianic'' Lord Blaster.]]
* NiceGuy: Is very kind to everyone he meets, and befriends the guys that bullied him and stole his Blaster Blade. He even goes as far as to thank Kyou for keeping his word and picking up Kamui’s cards, while also helping him a little or help the student council with learning Vanguard despite the fact that if the Cardfight Club loses to them they would be disbanded.
* PsychicPowers: Just like in the original series he has [=PSYqualia=].
* [[ShyBlueHairedGirl Shy Blue-Haired Boy]]: He is definitely shy and mild-mannered along with having that blue hair.
* ShipTease: Has a deal of this with Misaki and Kourin.

!!Toshiki Kai
!!!Kagero (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/TakuyaSato (JP), Ryan Luhning (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kai_v.png]]
An aloof high school student known as the Solitary Fighter. He met Aichi in the past and was the one who gave him the Blaster Blade card.\

Kai uses a Kagero deck, spearheaded by Dragonic Overlord. He uses the latter's ability to restand itself alongside skills that retire opposing rearguard to wreck havoc on his opponent's field. In the second arc of the series, he upgrades his deck by including Dragonic Overlord the Great. Later on, he obtains Dragonic Overlord the End from Mamoru which he goes on to use during the Koshien.
----
* TheAce: Kai is stated to be a strong fighter and his fight with Kenji shows that his reputation isn't undeserved.
* AdaptationalBadass: [[spoiler:Similar to the manga, Kai obtains [=PSYqualia=], unlike in the original anime where he was simply a BadassNormal.]]
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: While still aloof, Kai is a bit nicer and more openly supportive of Aichi in this continuity than he was in the previous one. Image 15 implies that his personality was more akin to that his original series counterpart while he was a member of Foo Fighters. He's also more quick to emote, showing visible distress at the idea of Ren and Tetsu deciding to move in with him while the [=PSYqualia=] Zombie mess is going on.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Unlike in the previous series, Kai's parents abandoned him instead of being dead. His and Ren's connection is also different as they were not shown to be friends with Ren simply admiring Kai's strength.
* BigNO: Ends up screaming no after Ren and Tetsu decide they'll stay at his apartment for some time.
* BloodKnight: This is the only reason why he joined Team [=Q4=], as their initial formation was to fight Team [=NwO=], consisting of Asia's three highest ranked fighters.
* CynicismCatalyst: Kai used to be a cheerful kid until his parents abandoned him after stealing money from the company they worked for. This led to Kai being passed from guardian to guardian, all of whom either disliked or had poor opinion of him because of what his parents did. This lasted until his uncle offered him the chance to live on his own just as he was to enter high school, at which point Kai had already become who he was at the start of the series.
* DePower: [[spoiler:As a result of being deleted by Ibuki, his bond with Vanguard is severed and he's unable to play as well as he used to, but he's still able to regain his bond with Vanguard although it takes time.]]
* DiscardAndDraw: Before his second fight with Aichi, Kai changes his deck, removing the Dragonic Waterfall he used against Ren to add Cruel Dragon and the Grade 4 Transcendence Dragon, Dragonic Nouvelle Vague. He then trades that in for Dragonic Overlord The Great during the High School arc.
* TheDreaded: The moment Tetsu and Asaka heard from Minami that he was defeated by a guy named Kai, they were struck with surprise and fear that he may be in town.
* IconicItem: Dragonic Overlord. Minami mentioning that the guy he fought used it confirmed to Asaka and Tetsu that it is the same Kai they're thinking of.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite being a rather serious person, he's not above taking Miwa with him to do groceries make him carry everything which failed when Miwa realized this.
* NotSoStoic: While he isn't as stoic in the original series, he's very loud when objecting against Ren and Tetsu staying at his apartment.
* ParentalAbandonment: Kai's parents ran away without him after stealing money from the company they worked for.
* PsychicPowers: [[spoiler:Obtains [=PSYqualia=] during his fight against Aichi, allowing him to turn the fight around and win. However, he immediately states he doesn't intend to use it again]].
* RedBaron: Is known as the Solitary Fighter.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Miwa's red.
* TheStoic: Downplayed compared to his original series counterpart but Kai is still rather reserved.
* UsedToBeMoreSocial: As a kid, Kai was more cheerful and friendly than he is in the present.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Morikawa convinces Kai to join his team for the Vanguard Koshien by beating him in a fight. Under normal circumstances, Morikawa would not have beaten Kai, but Kai was afflicted by Delete at the time.

!!Misaki Tokura
!!!Oracle Think Tank (Protect)
->Voiced by: Creator/IzumiKitta (JP), Natasha Strickey (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misaki_v.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Misaki in the High School arc onward]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misaki_avatar_attempt_4_5.png]][[/labelnote]]
A high school student who works as a clerk at Card Capital. She is the cousin of the shop's current manager and the daughter of its original owner. Initially disinterested in Vanguard, her attitude changes after seeing Aichi's fight with Kai.\

Her deck of choice, given to her by Shin, features the Oracle Think Tank clan. Its playstyle focuses on increasing the number of cards in her hand to complement the Protect gift marker before finishing the fight with her ace card, Imperial Daughter. She later changes her deck to be more focused on the Magus units with Hexagonal Magus and later, Pentagonal Magus as her new aces. During the Koshien, she is briefly shown to be using Goddess of the Full Moon, Tsukuyomi.
----
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Originally, Misaki was more reserved even after beginning to cope with her parents deaths. Here, she's more outspoken and has a bit of a temper.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: In the original version, Shin was her paternal uncle. Here, Shin is her cousin instead.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: In the original version, Misaki stopped using her Oracle Think Tank deck before Season 3, changing to a Genesis deck for the remainder of the original series, then interchanging between the two in ''[[Anime/CardfightVanguardG G]]''. Here, she solely uses Oracle Think Tank, shifting focus to the Magus sub-clan upon the Miyaji High School arc.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Misaki's past is the same here as that of her original series counterpart with the exception that [[spoiler:she was present in the car during the accident that killed her parents.]]
* BerserkButton: She doesn't like to hear people talk bad about her parents' shop (Now being taken care of by her cousin, Shin), Card Capital.
* CoolBigSis: To the regulars of her shop, particularly Aichi and Miwa, rushing to their aid when they weren't in the best of shape.
* TheDreaded: Has a reputation of being the "Backstage Boss" of Miyaji Academy, rumored to control the academy from the shadows using psychic powers. While said rumors are false, people do fear her becauce of her photographic memory.
* EmbarrassingNickname: She does not like being called "Misa-Q" by Ren and repeatedly tells him to stop calling her that.
* ImportantHaircut: Akari suggests that Misaki cut her hair before the High School arc in order to show that she's trying to change.
* JapaneseDelinquents: Misaki is mistakenly thought of as the "Backstage Boss" of Miyaji Academy, people thinking she has "psychic powers" that she uses to control the school. She isn't, but her long skirt and DeadpanSnarker demanor doesn't help the image due to being traits common of ''Sukeban'' students.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She comes of as brash and abrasive most of the time, but she has a kind heart, and cares deeply for her friends and family.
* KickChick: Misaki seems fond of using her legs to kick objects when angered. And people too, as Shin found out.
* MyLifeFlashedBeforeMyEyes: [[spoiler:Happened to her during the car accident that killed her parents. If Kourin is to be believed, this is what caused Misaki to gain her eidetic memory.]]
* OnlySaneMan: More often the only one willing to see the bigger picture when issues occur. Her first concern about the [=Q4=] vs. [=NwO=] matches is how it could affect Card Capital's reputation if they lose, and her initial reaction to the electrocuting Cardfight gloves Foo Fighter uses is to [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim kick them out of the store]].
* {{Otaku}}: A downplayed example since she doesn't fully shows it, but ''VD'' Dimension 3 highly implies that most if not all of the books she's shown reading are actually LightNovels as shown when she tries to find out in which one Eru based his arm markings on.
* ParentalAbandonment: Misaki's parents died in a car accident when she was young.
* PhotographicMemory: Misaki is stated to have it. Shin supposes she acquired it after the death of her parents, so as to not forget her memories of them. Whether or not it is meant to be a case of eidetic memory is unknown since Misaki denies it when Kourin brings up that topic, simply saying she just has a better memory than most people. According to Kourin, this ability comes from [[spoiler:Misaki continuously experiencing a "life review", having all of the memories of her life flashing back before her eyes, during the moments following the accident up until she was rescued.]]
* SmarterThanYouLook: Despite looking like and having the reputation of a delinquent, her grades are very good according to Shingo.
* ShipTease: Misaki has a lot with Aichi this time around, considering him someone precious in her heart. She quickly rushes for him when he shows up with Ren and hugs him protectively, and her reasoning for not joining the Cardfight Club is made to be her not wanting to drag Aichi's efforts down with her reputation, despite actually wanting to join the club with him.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only girl in [=Team Q4=]. Dropped when she joins the Cardfight Club, as the team also has Kourin, making it TwoGirlsToATeam. [[spoiler:But later becomes this again in ''VD'' when Kourin was erased from everyone's memories after she lost her duty as a "Called Walker"]].
* TheWorfEffect: Misaki is defeated by Gouki so the audience can see why he ended up as the runner-up of the Asia Circuit. Happens again when she loses to Ren to show how strong he and his [=PSYqualia=] are. She doesn't even get a chance to ride to Grade 3. [[spoiler:Happens a third time when she she is defeated by Aichi after he became a [=PSYQualia=] Zombie and just like her fight against Ren, she once again is defeated before she can ride to Grade 3.]]

!!Kamui Katsuragi
!!!Nova Grappler (Accel)
->Voiced by: Shizuka Ishikawa (JP), Melissa Dorsey (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kamui_v.png]]
A grade schooler who went to Card Capital in order to challenge the strongest fighter in the shop. He was a former regular at Cardshop Voyage and acquainted with the Daimonji siblings. He has a crush on Emi, Aichi's sister and refers to the latter as a big brother.\

Kamui uses a Nova Grappler deck centered around the Raizer series and takes advantage of the extra rearguard circle provided by the Accel gift marker with his unit's ability to restand themselves or other to unleash a series of powerful attacks. However, Gouki's comments indicate he has used another clan previously. In the High School arc, he upgrades his deck by including the Beast Deity units.
----
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: In this series he used to play at a cardshop near his neighborhood alongside his friends, but stopped coming there after Foo Fighters took over the shop and forces its costumers to play "serious fights"[[note]]"serious fights" involve players wearing gloves that electrocute them whenever they take damage[[/note]]. This caused the owner to close the shop, his friends stopped playing Vanguard and forced Kamui to play at other cardshops in order to get stronger and one day defeat Foo Fighters. It's even this compared to the manga, because in the manga the shop was eventually saved, but in the V series anime it got closed down.
* AdaptationalWimp: Zigzagged. Unlike the original series, he loses against Aichi in their cardfight while in the original he defeated him. He also lacks the reputation as a strong fighter that his original series counterpart had. This is mitigated somewhat by him defeating Gouki in Image 11, which was also his goal in this series and the first season of the original series which took him 3 seasons to fulfill.
* AnimeHair: It's just as high and spiky as in the original series.
* AscendedExtra: In the original manga's version of the [=PSYqualia=] Zombie arc, Kamui is mainly DemotedToExtra. Here, he's made into a Zombie himself after facing Kyou, but is then freed by Kai, frees Morikawa, and then goes off to find Aichi after learning Kourin is a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie herself. [[spoiler:He also helps Kyou regain his bond with Vanguard after he gets deleted by Ibuki.]]
* DiscardAndDraw: In the High School arc, he trades in his Raizers for the Beast Deity units.
* TheFourGods: In the High School arc, he starts using the original four Beast Deity units, which have this trope as their inspiration.
* ItsPersonal: With Kyou, due to the latter being the one who took over the shop Kamui used to visit. When Kyou leads an attack on Voyage, Kamui rushes there to stop him and faces off against him after Gouki loses. Unfortunately, Kyou proves to strong for him and decimates Kamui.
* {{Irony}}: He likes Emi, who doesn't even notice his affections, but Nagisa has a similar crush on him and is more open about.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Towards Emi of course.
* OutOfFocus: After the first season, where Kamui played a large role in the [=Q4=] vs [=NWO=] team battle and delving into his backstory where he and his frievds were driven out of the card shop they visited by [=AL4=], Kamui falls out of focus in the following seasons due the focus on the cardfight clubs participating in the Vanguard Koshien and the [=PSYqualia=] Zombie outbreak.
* TookALevelInBadass: Invokes this by going on a training journey in order to defeat Gouki and later on Kyou. He ended up being a regular at Card Capital and it shows when he defeated Gouki in a cardfight. However it still wasn't enough to defeat Kyou, who also became stronger since he last fought him.
* TheWorfEffect: Loses to Leon to help establish the latter's strength as the Asia Circuit Champion. Happens again when he faces Kyou and finds himself on the receiving end of the [=ZANBAKU=]-Arrester lockdown.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Miyaji Academy Cardfight Club]]
A club founded by Aichi in order to raise awareness of Vanguard at Miyaji Academy where the game is unknown to all but a few students.

For tropes about Aichi and Misaki, please see their Team [=Q4=] entries above.

!!Naoki Ishida
!!!Narukami (Accel)
->Voiced by: Tooru Nara (JP), Stewart Cummings (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naokiishidav.png]]
A first-year student at Miyaji Academy who is regarded as a delinquent by other students for his appearance and demeanor. When he was a child he saw Aichi being bullied by other kids, but didn't act. Meeting with him again when the latter returns to Miyaji Academy causes his attitude to start changing and leads him to be the second person to join the Cardfight Club.\

He is shown to have picked a Narukami deck which contains the "secret weapon" Shin gave him: Great Composure Dragon. His strategy is to remove units from his opponent's front row by binding them or moving them to the back row in order so that his units can power-up. He later upgrades it by including Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion as his new ace card. Later on, he rebuilds his deck to include the Detonix units and focus on removing as many of his opponent's rearguards as possible to lower the cost of Detonix Drill Dragon's restand ability. During the Koshien, he switches to a deck featuring the Eradicator units with his new ace being Eradicator, Gauntlet Buster Dragon which he uses to pressure his opponent with a strong vanguard attack with multiple criticals.
----
* BystanderSyndrome: He witnessed Aichi being bullied in the past and while he didn't join in the bullying, he didn't do anything to help either.
* CovertPervert: He called Esuka hot when looking at the ad she's in and calls Shin a lucky devil for seeing her in a swimsuit.
* DeathGlare: Is prone to giving one of these from time to time which is usually enough to silence whoever's on the end of it.
* {{Delinquent}}: Naoki has the reputation of being one which stems mainly from his appearance. His short temper doesn't help with it.
* TheDreaded: Similar to Misaki most of his classmates are scared of him which stems mainly from his appearance and having the reputation for being a delinquent.
* FaceOfAThug: Thanks to his redesign giving him sharper eyes, this trait is more apparent in this series than it was in the original.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: A more subdued example but Naoki is the foolish sibling to his older brother Masaki's responsible sibling. The latter managed to get into a first-rate college while Naoki prefers to laze around and doesn't care about studying.
* HairTriggerTemper: Naoki is quick to lose his temper and act rashly when angered or annoyed by other people. As noted above, this help contribute to his bad reputation.
* HeroicWillpower: [[spoiler:Despite being turned into a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie, Naoki remains unwilling to hurt Aichi and it takes the intervention of Kourin and later, the Destiny Conductor as well, to force him into defeating Aichi.]]
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Naoki was initially standoffish and bored with his life, after playing Vanguard and befriending Aichi, his personality became more cheerful and friendly.

!!Kourin Tatsunagi
!!!Gold Paladin (Accel)
->Voiced by: Creator/SuzukoMimori (JP), Cheryl [=McMaster=] (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kourintatsunagivmiyaji.png]]
A member of the idol trio ULTRARARE, Kourin is also a high school student at Miyaji Academy. She is the first person to join Aichi's Cardfight Club, although her reasons for doing so are known only to her.\

In this continuity, Kourin plays a Gold Paladin deck, spearheaded by Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel whose skill let it be rode even if the opponent is at grade 1. Her deck focuses on calling units to the field to increase the number of attacks she can make in a single turn. She latter includes evolved versions of Ezel.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: {{Inverted}}. In the original series, Kourin first appeared in episode 6 of the first season whereas in this one, she debuts at the beginning of the High School arc which is the equivalent of season 3. She did however have a cameo alongside her sisters during the first arc, playing this trope straight in regard to her manga counterpart.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Like in the manga, Kourin plays Gold Paladin instead of Royal Paladin like in the original anime.
* AdaptationalVillainy: While Kourin was always devoted to her friends, she still knew when to draw the line, and even actively resisted anything that tried to force her to cross any lines. In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:she is willing to do anything for Aichi's sake, even if it means turning former friends into members of [=SK4=] or creating distortions. What's worse is, unlike the rest of [=SK4=], she ''knows'' about her old life and lacks FakeMemories, but she's too desperate to retain her memories of Aichi to really care.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As the "Called Walkers" are bound into the service of Takuto, [[spoiler:when his body is possessed by the Destiny Conductor, she and her sisters are forcibly made into the first [=PSYqualia=] Zombies. Unlike her sisters however, Kourin puts up more visible resistance, necessitating the Destiny Conductor to use more of his power to control her.]]
* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Suiko's Abel in ''Extra Story -if-''. [[spoiler:While initially Kourin's animosity towards Suiko was limited to when Suiko just got in her way in general, once she aids in Ibuki's freedom from being Silver Juggler and leaves Kourin the only member of [=SK4=], Kourin takes it much more personally, and vows to make her elder sister suffer for all eternity by trapping her in a LotusEaterMachine. {{Subverted|Trope}} once she's finally talked down by Suiko.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: When her sister Suiko happily hugs Aichi and calls him adorable she immediately shoved her away from him and tells her to keep her hands off him.
* TheCorrupter: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:in an effort to bolster [=SK4=]'s numbers, she tries to prey on Ibuki's guilt and offers him the opportunity to make things right by stopping his past self from Deleting Kai. She at first fails due to Ibuki having long since decided to stop dwelling on the past, so she instead tries praying specifically on his guilt towards Suiko, saying he damaged her psyche and that he could help her if he makes a distortion. [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness This is what gets him to give in and reflexively create a distortion]], his bond with Suiko over the course of the season making him care for her enough to want to instinctively help her.]]
* DevotedToYou: ''Extra Story -if-''. [[spoiler:She is absolutely devoted to Aichi, and repeatedly tries to carry out his will if it means his happiness is preserved, even staying at his bedside while he writhes in pain and trying to guilt trip Kai into coming to Sanctuary with them.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: In ''Extra Story -if-''. [[spoiler:She's always at Aichi's side and issues orders in his stead. Despite her claims of being absolutely loyal to Aichi though, she regularly filters what the other members of [=SK4=] can say to him, countermands his orders under the rationale its for his own benefit, and attempts to eliminate Shuka herself when Aichi is meeting with Emi one on one, Miwa even pointing out Aichi had no idea she was doing this. Upon Aichi revealing to her he knows what she did, she tries to justify her actions by claiming it was all for his sake. [[ItsAllAboutMe In truth though, she's only focused on herself.]]]]
* FaceHeelTurn: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:she willingly joins Aichi as TheDragon and becomes leader of his Sanctuary Knights, proceeding to send out Jammers to create distortions, as well as kidnapping her former friends and giving them FakeMemories so they'd become fellow Knights.]]
* FakeMemories: As one of Takuto's "Called Walkers", she was given new memories to help her fulfill her purpose.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:She is the last opponent Aichi faces during the continuation of the High School arc and the last opponent of Aichi's story in the reboot. Also counts as a PostFinalBoss since the Destiny Conductor has been dealt with prior to the Koshien tournament.]]
* HeroicWillpower: [[spoiler:After being brought under the influence of the Destiny Conductor, Kourin manages to retain enough control to not immediately go and turn her fellow Cardfight Club members into [=PSYqualia=] Zombies. However, it doesn't last.]]
* IdolSinger: As in the original series, Kourin is a part of ULTRARARE. However, according to Shingo, she isn't very popular due to her unfriendly demeanor.
* ItsAllAboutMe: [[spoiler:Upon leaving with Takuto to correct the distortions in ''Extra Story -if-'', she reads the Akashic Book and learns of her erased memories with Aichi. Desperate to not lose them again, she joins his side as TheDragon, and regularly rationalizes her actions as for Aichi's benefit. It takes Suiko making her see that Aichi being forced to abandon Vanguard in reality isn't right and that she can always make new memories for Kourin to finally realize [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone what she's done.]]]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She, along with her "sisters" had all their memories erased when they were made into "Called Walkers".
* LightIsNotGood: She still uses Gold Paladin overall, even when [[spoiler:under the control of the Destiny Conductor or serving as TheDragon to Aichi in ''Extra Story -if-''.]]
* LoveMakesYouEvil: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:her desire to be with Aichi and her fear of losing her memories of him again causes her to become TheDragon in his efforts to eliminate Vanguard, regardless of what she has to do.]]
* MythologyGag: Her role in ''Extra Story -if-'' makes a lot of reference to her original incarnation in ''Legion Mate''. [[spoiler:Namely by being TheDragon to Aichi after he becomes that parts antagonist. Her motivation for serving Aichi is likewise the same: she hates seeing him suffer and doesn't want to lose her memories of him.]]
* NewTransferStudent: Kourin transfers into Aichi's class.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler:It was her checking on Morikawa to make sure he no longer remembered being in [=SK4=] that made Miwa aware of something going on, and her recruiting him allowing him to see Ibuki siding with the Blaster Pair, convincing him to talk with Takuto and making him remember the original timeline, turning him into TheMole.]]
* NightmareFace: She repeatedly pulls these in ''Extra Story -if-'' [[spoiler:while trying to tempt Ibuki into joining [=SK4=] and when fighting Suiko.]]
* NotBloodSiblings: As Kourin herself confirmed when asked by her classmates, she isn't actually related to Suiko or Rekka. Despite this, they ''do'' care for each other like family, [[spoiler:and it was this connection that allowed Suiko to finally reach her in ''Extra Story -if-''.]]
* NotBrainwashed: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:while all the other Sanctuary Knights are all believed to have FakeMemories and get them restored, Kourin doesn't. She has her memories but willingly joined Aichi so she wouldn't have to forget him again.]]
* NotMeThisTime: In ''Extra Story -if-'', Ren, Rekka, and later everyone else, thinks Kourin [[spoiler:is the one responsible for the barrier preventing them from stopping Shuka from taking Blaster Blade. Once she is defeated however, they attempt to do so again, only to find the barrier still in place, Kourin telling Miwa, Ren, and Rekka that it wasn't her who did it.]]
* SecretlySelfish: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:it's revealed she joined Aichi's cause to be with him again and not lose her memories, regardless of the fact that he now hates Vanguard, the thing that made him who he is. Suiko is able to help her move past it.]]
* ShipTease: Like in the original series, she has a lot of this with Aichi. [[spoiler:She values him so much that she actually willingly turns into TheDragon for him in ''Extra Story -if-'', just because she wants to stay with Aichi and not forget him again.]]
* SuperMode: In ''Extra Story -if-'', [[spoiler:if she's suitably pissed off, she rides Incandescent Lion, Blonde Ezel and fights on her own.]]
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: [[spoiler:Suiko doesn't reach her solely by defeating her. Rather, once Kourin is weakened enough, she approaches her as a loving older sister and gives her a CooldownHug, reassuring her that even if she loses the memories she had of Aichi, she can always make new ones and be happy with him once again.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: When Aichi thanks her for convincing Misaki to join the club, Kourin gives the usual "it's not like I did it for you" answer. Which is then immediately lampshaded by Naoki.

!!Shingo Komoi
!!!Nubatama (Protect)
->Voiced by: Creator/HiroyukiYoshino (JP), Hans Wackershauser (EN)
Another first-year student at Miyaji Academy and a classmate of Aichi, Kourin and Naoki. He is a longtime player of vanguard but couldn't find anyone to play with at Miyaji until Aichi, his idol, started attending the school. He is the third person to join the Cardfight Club.\

Shingo plays a Nubatama deck in this series, although it still features the Magatsu archetype. His playstyle revolves around returning cards back to his hand to avoid removal effects and to use as guardians while his ace card Covert Demonic Dragon, Magatsu Storm can protect himself by using the units left on the field or call cards from hand during battle to gain extra attacks.
----
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: He's not as haughty or quick to put Naoki down as he was in the original, and instead comes across more as a shy guy who gets very passionate with the things he enjoys, namely Vanguard and the club.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Shingo uses a Nubatama deck instead of Murakumo like in the manga and the original anime. However, he does use the Magatsu line which have also switched clans.
* BrutalHonesty: Shingo has no issues telling Kourin to her face that she's not popular as an idol or that her skills as a fighter are average.
* {{Fanboy}}: Shingo is one for Aichi who he considers his idol after seeing him win the Asia Circuit on TV. He is also one for Rekka.
* {{Ninja}}: The theme of his deck although, in this continuity, he uses Nubatama instead of Murakumo but retains the Magatsu units.
* StalkerWithACrush: Like in the original, Shingo is at first believed to be Kourin's stalker. It's however [[{{Subverted}} subverted]] in that he's not interested in Kourin, nor is he a stalker as he wanted to approach Aichi but had trouble doing so.
* TheShortGuyWithGlasses: Downplayed. While he is not younger than the other club members, aside from Misaki, Shingo is the shortest among them and is quite knowledgeable when it comes to Vanguard.
[[/folder]]

!!Supporting Characters
[[folder:Card Capital]]
!!Taishi Miwa
!!!Nova Grappler (Accel)
->Voiced by: Creator/ShowtaroMorikubo (JP), Alex Bergen (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/taishimiwav2.png]]
A childhood friend of Kai. The two parted ways but eventually reunited in high school. An energetic individual, his skills as a cardfighter shouldn't be underestimated.\

Like Kamui, Miwa plays a Nova Grapplers deck, but his is centered around the Hero units and combines the ability to re-stand his units with skills that block the opponent from intercepting attacks.\

In ''Extra Story -if-'', he's initially brought in to replace Morikawa as a member of [=SK4=] following Morikawa's defeat. In truth, he's TheMole, spying on [=SK4=] from the inside.
----
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: This incarnation of Miwa is shown to be more energetic and prone to joining in with Morikawa and his group's antics.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Miwa's deck in this anime is Nova Grappler rather than Kagero.
* ADayInTheLimelight: He gets to fight against Koutei in Image 7. He loses, but was able to put up a good fight. And again in Image 15 where he fights Asaka and his friendship with Kai is delved into in greater detail.
* AloofAlly: {{Invoked|Trope}} in ''Extra Story -if-''. While he ''is'' a member of [=SK4=], he's a lot more lax about it and regularly sits on the sideline snarking at the others, even standing aside as Kourin tries to stop Shingo from speaking to Aichi. Since he's actually TheMole, it's understandable why he doesn't do much, since he's not actually trying to help them.
* ChildhoodFriends: Miwa has known Kai since they were children.
* {{Fanboy}}: He is a fan of Suiko and quite dismayed to learn that Ren has already met her [[spoiler:and that she is responsible for turning the students of Fukuhara into [=PSYqualia=] Zombies.]]
* TheGadfly: Something that annoys the other members of [=SK4=] to no end in ''Extra Story -if-'', he's more content with snarking at the others than actually doing his job. Considering his role as TheMole though, it makes sense why he'd rather do this.
* GhostMemory: In ''Extra Story -if-''. He claims to have a faint recollection of Kai despite how, by his own admittance, he shouldn't have one. Turns out to be {{foreshadowing}}, since he ''was'' remembering his old life, and just needed a jolt to get them all back, that jolt being seeing Kai again and [[spoiler:speaking to Takuto]], after which he becomes TheMole.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red oni to Kai's blue.
* TheMole: In ''Extra Story -if-'', he is initially presented as member of [=SK4=]. He's not an actual member though, but rather a spy working on the inside. He reveals his cover when he has to save Kai from being attacked by a BrainwashedAndCrazy Ibuki.
* {{Superhero}}: Miwa's Nova Grapplers deck features the Hero units which he describes as heroes of justice.
* TheWorfEffect: While he isn’t as skilled a fighter as the Asia Circuit Champions or Kai, he’s established to be a good player in his own right. He however loses to Koutei in Image 7 and Asaka in Image 15, to establish how strong they are.

!!Emi Sendou
!!!Bermuda Triangle (Force) (Video Game)
->Voiced by: Creator/AtsukoEnomoto (JP), Angie Beers (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emisendouv.png]]
Aichi's younger sister. Despite being the younger of the Sendou siblings, she's the more responsible of the two and often acts like an [[BigBrotherInstinct overprotective little sister]]. Curious about him acting different, she follows him to Card Capital and ends up becoming a regular visitor of the shop.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In the manga her first appearance was shortly before the end of the Foo Fighters arc, but here she first appears in Image 3 which is after Aichi started going to Card Capital recently and the same amount of time it took for her to appear in the original series.
* BigSisterInstinct: Inverted. She's the younger sister but really protective of Aichi when he gets bullied at school.
* [[NonActionGuy Non-Action Girl]]: She is trying to learn about Vanguard, but so far has no deck or intention of fighting.
* ObliviousToLove: She fails to realize that Kamui is enamored with her.
* ShipperOnDeck: To Nagisa and Kamui, much to his horror and sadness.

!!Shinemon "Shin" Nitta
!!!Royal Paladin (Force)
->Voiced by: Shuuta Morishima (JP), Scott Roberts (EN)
The current Manager of Card Capital who is also Misaki's cousin or uncle?\

While teaching Naoki, he used a Royal Paladin deck.
----
* {{Nephewism}}: Averted. While he's still Misaki's guardian, Shin is her cousin, rather than her uncle in this continuity. However, the first episode of the Shinemon arc refers to Misaki as being his niece, so things are still up in the air.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: The only character to call him by his real name is his old friend Mark.
* SkewedPriorities: When Miwa faces off against Asaka, Shin is more interested in the fight itself rather than being concerned about Miwa.
* UnreliableNarrator: When he tells everyone about how he got to know Esuka, he distorts the truth a '''lot'''.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: The regulars of Card Capital have trouble believing he used to be the famous cardfighter, "Shinemon Nitta", when seeing a picture of him in the past due to the change in his hair, glasses and how much he grew up since then.

!!Katsumi Morikawa
!!!Spike Brothers (Force)/Royal Paladin (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/NoriakiSugiyama (JP), Jonathan Molinski (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katsumi_morikawa_v.png]]
A regular of Card Capital and its self proclaimed strongest fighter. He bullied Aichi at school and stole his Blaster Blade card. After being called out on no longer going to Card Capital, Aichi confronts him and [[DefeatMeansFriendship becomes his friend]], making him start going there again as he becomes a better person.\

He initially fights using a Spike Brothers deck, but starts fighting with a Royal Paladin deck in order to use Aichi's Blaster Blade after stealing it. After losing Blaster Blade he still uses it, but unlike Aichi he doesn't use the superior call capabilities of the Clan and focuses more on giving his units more power with their own skills without using the Imaginary Gift Force. However he started using his Spike Brothers deck again in the Highschool arc.
----
* AdaptationalBadass/[[AdaptationalWimp Wimp]]: [[PlayedWith Played around with]] in both cases. In the V series he isn't a Grade 3-obsessed ButtMonkey who is incapable of building a balanced deck like his original series counterpart and as a result his deck doesn't suffer from CripplingOverspecialization. However, he also doesn't have the same amount of skill with a balanced deck that made his original series counterpart a CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass. It was even noted he only uses brute power in fights.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: He is a bigger {{Jerkass}} in this series and isn't obsessed with Grade 3 cards, but after he loses against Aichi in Image 5, his personality becomes more like the original series.
* AnimeHair: Like his original counterpart, Morikawa's hair is styled in a V shape.
* {{Fanboy}}: Like in the previous continuity, Morikawa is a big fan of Kourin.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: Since this series was made after Clan Fight was introduced, Morikawa had to use a Royal Paladin deck in order to be able to play Blaster Blade.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Three in this series and shares this trope with Izaki and Inenaga.
* TookALevelInKindness: After losing against Aichi in Image 5.
* UnskilledButStrong: It was stated by others he only uses brute power instead of skill. This is true when you look at the skills his Royal Paladin cards have. Gigantech Charger, Lionmane Stallion and Stardrive Dragon only have attack increase skills. Also instead of riding Stardrive Dragon for the Imaginary Gift, he rides Gigantech Charger instead and uses Stardrive Dragon as a rear-guard to use its skill.

!!Yuta Izaki
!!!Tachikaze (Accel)
->Voiced by: Takayuki Yamaguchi (JP), Brett Bauer (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuta_izaki_v.png]]
A regular at Card Capital and a member of the CF Research Club of Hitsue. He's friends with Morikawa and Inenaga.\

He uses a Tachikaze deck.
----
* EveryoneHasStandards: Stops Morikawa alongside Inenaga when he starts hitting Aichi for standing up to him.
* {{Fanboy}}: He is a fan of Rekka.
* TheGenericGuy: Doesn't get much in terms of characterization.
* SatelliteCharacter: Towards Morikawa and its even worse in this series since he hasn't even had one cardfight yet.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Three in this series and shares this along with Morikawa and Inenaga.

!!Ichiro Inenaga
!!!Megacolony (Protect)
->Voiced by: Seiji Maeda (JP), Sam Ross (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ichiro_inanaga.png]]
A regular at Card Capital and a member of the CF Research Club of Hitsue. He's friends with Morikawa and Izaki.\

He uses a Megacolony deck.
----
* EveryoneHasStandards: Stops Morikawa alongside Izaki when he starts hitting Aichi for standing up to him.
* {{Fanboy}}: Like Izaki, he is one for Rekka.
* TheGenericGuy: He may be even more generic than Izaki.
* SatelliteCharacter: Just like Izaki he hasn't received any characterization except that he's friends with Morikawa and Izaki, and uses a Megacolony deck.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Actually three, but is this along with Morikawa and Izaki.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Cardshop Voyage]]
Another card shop known for being the shop frequented by Gouki Daimonji, the runner-up in the latest Asia Circuit, and his younger sister Nagisa. Kamui used to be a regular before going to Card Capital and his return sets off a chain of events leading to a showdown between Card Capital and Voyage, the latter represented by Team Nagisa with Others, or [=NwO=] which is comprised of Nagisa and the top three of the Asia Circuit.

!!Gouki Daimonji
!!!Granblue (Protect)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gouki_v.png]]
The current runner-up of the Asia Circuit who managed to get Cardshop Voyage on the map. He's a very bombastic and loud man who cares and dotes on his little sister Nagisa a lot.\

His uses a Granblue deck that makes use of their resurrection skills to fill up his Rear-Guards and the Imaginary Gift Protect in order to save his hands for guarding, but at the same time have enough power to pressure his opponents.
----
* TheAce: As the runner-up of the Asia Circuit, this is a given.
* AdaptationalBadass: It’s never clearly stated where he stands among the many players of the original series, only that he and his team were good enough to reach as far as the national championship. Here, he goes as far as the finals of the Asia circuit, losing only to Leon Soryu, giving him the status of the 2nd strongest cardfighter of Asia. He's also ranked above Koutei who was stronger than him in the original series.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Nagisa, often supporting her in fights and comforting her when she gets upset.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Keeps referring to Card Capital as a no-name cardshop in front of Misaki who, unbeknownst to him, is the daughter of the shop's previous manager without realizing that this keeps irritating her until Nagisa points it out to him.
* LargeHam: Is still as loud as ever.
* TheWorfEffect: Despite being runner-up in the Asia Circuit, he still gets defeated by Kyou in order to show how strong the members of team [=AL4=] are.

!!Nagisa Daimonji
!!!Granblue (Protect) (Anime)/Nova Grappler (Accel) (Video Game)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nagisadaimonjiv_4.png]]
The little sister of Gouki Daimonji and the one who created and named Team [=Nwo=]. She is harsh against Kamui at first and criticized him for leaving Voyage and becoming a regular at Card Capital instead. She later falls in love with Kamui after he defeats her brother and tries to get him to marry her.\

Just like her older brother she plays a Granblue deck, but instead of using Basskirk as her main vanguard, she instead uses Dragon Undead, Skull Dragon as her main Grade 3 in order to pressure her opponent with it without having to call it back from the drop zone every turn.
----
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Instead of a girl that is trying to make Kamui marry her, she is more like a Type 1 {{Tsundere}} towards him in this series and also more hotheaded.
** She becomes more like her original series counterpart after Kamui defeats Gouki in a cardfight as shown when she immediately asks Kamui to marry her, though its treated more like an innocent crush rather than a full blown obsession this time.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: In the original continuity, Nagisa played Nova Grappler because of her feelings for Kamui. Since this aspect of her character was downplayed here, she instead uses Granblue like her older brother does. Possibly subverted as mention is made of her changing clans to Nova Grappler in an episode preview, although seeing as it's an episode preview, it's unknown if it should be considered canon.
* LargeHam: Nagisa can be just as loud as her brother if she wants to.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: {{Averted}} this time. She has more meaningful interactions with her teammates and even Aichi.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only girl on [=Team NwO=]
* {{Tsundere}}: A type 1 towards Kamui. At first.

!!Kenji "Koutei" Mitsusada
!!!Dimension Police (Force)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koutei_v.png]]
A young man who can kinda be odd at times and makes mistakes such as getting the time or place wrong. Despite this he's a strong cardfighter who managed to rank third at the Asia Circuit.\

He uses a Dimension Police deck centered around Daiyusha. He makes use of the Imaginary Gift Force to give his units, but mostly his Vanguard, a lot of power in order to use their Skills, which can include extra criticals or even Superior Riding Great Daiyusha and getting another Imaginary Gift.
----
* TheAce: As one of the top three fighters in Asia, this is a given.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: The original Koutei first appears during the national tournament which is around halfway in Season 1, but in the V series he appears as early in Image 7. This also applies in regards to the manga where Koutei only has a brief cameo at the start of the High School arc.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: This incarnation of Kenji can be a bit odd at times, but face him in a fight and you'll learn firsthand why he placed third in the Asia Circuit.
* LargeHam: Not as much as his counterpart from the original series, but Koutei still likes to ham it up during his fights.
* RedBaron: Koutei, or the Emperor.

!!Leon Souryuu
!!!Aqua Force (Accel)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leon_v.png]]
A twelve-years old cardfighter and the current champion of the Asia Circuit. He often speaks of the wind and appears to have a mysterious ability. He agrees to be one of the four members of Team [=NwO=] and appears to be interested in Aichi.\

His an Aqua Force deck and focuses on unleashing a barrage of attacks by re-standing his units, allowing for skills that trigger on specific battles to be used.
----
* TheAce: As the winner of the Asia Circuit, Leon is the top-ranked fighter in Asia.
* AdaptationalHeroism: The original Leon was the BigBad of season 2 of the original series who made a contract with Void. While in the V series he is just a strong cardfighter and has no ties to Void.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: The original Leon first appeared halfway in Season 2, but in this series he first appears in Image 6 and is the one to partially introduce Aichi to [=PSYqualia=].
* AgeLift: For some reason he is a 12-year-old kid which is around the same age as Kamui in this series, rather than 15 like he was in the original anime.
* BadassAdorable: He is still a strong fighter and was able to win the Asia Circuit, but as mentioned above a kid around the same age and height as Kamui, and like Kamui, needs a platform to cardfight on.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: During his match against Ibuki, he expresses his desire to see the Deletors skill, in which Ibuki tries to resist the temptation from using it as his own repentance. By the time Ibuki learns to use it without fear, Leon faces his own loss as a result.
* TheBusCameBack: After a brief appearnce before the beginning of the High School arc, Leon returns during the Dimensions arc, helping Ibuki get over his fear and guilt from his action from the previous arc.
* DemotedToExtra: In the original series, Leon was the main antagonist of season 2 and played a supporting role in season 3 and 4 by helping the heroes against the antagonists. Here, he only appears in a mini-arc and in a brief showing at the very beginning of the High School arc and has no connection to the plot as a whole.
* PsychicPowers: Can sense the "wind from planet Cray", which is all but outright said to be [=PSYqualia=].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tatsunagi Foundation]]
A major corporation responsible for sponsoring the Vanguard card game as well as the [=ULTRARARE=] idol group. They are interested in the power known as [=PSYqualia=].

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takuto_tatsunagi_v.png]]
The young head of the Tatsunagi Foundation. He also serves as the current Concert Master, a role the Tatsunagi family has taken on for years.\

Like Kourin, he plays a Gold Paladin deck with Ezel as its ace, and shares a similar playstyle. Unlike her he uses Flame Wind Lion, Wonder Ezel and Crimson Beast, Howell in order to superior ride to Grade 3.
----
* TheChosenOne: Every generation of Tatsunagi's has a Concert Master to act as the Vanguard of Earth, and link to Ezel on Cray. Takuto was chosen over his older brother Nome when their father passed away.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:His body is taken over by the Destiny Conductor after Takuto's own consciousness is deleted following his loss to Ibuki.]]
* FacialMarkings: Has a green line on his forehead. As seen in a flashback, this indicates him being the current Concert Master, a role that has been passed down the Tatsunagi family for ages.
* ImprobableAge: Despite looking to be around the age of Kamui, he is the head of the Tatsunagi Foundation.
* PsychicPowers: Takuto also has [=PSYqualia=].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His decision to try and find out what Ibuki is planning leaves him vulnerable to [[spoiler:DemonicPossession by the Destiny Conductor, setting the [=PSYqualia=] Zombie arc into motion.]]
** Happens again during the IF arc. [[spoiler:While Shuka is in the end the one responsible for the change to the timeline, Takuto himself caused Aichi to go insane and create Sanctuary by talking about the other timeline, and Aichi already suffering from SanitySlippage just accelerated the process.]]

The eldest of the three Tatsunagi sisters who, like her siblings, is also part of the idol group [=ULTRARARE=]. She was the person who approached Ren in the past and told him about [=PSYqualia=]. She attends Fukuhara High School and is part of its Vanguard club.

She is one of the main characters of the Extra Story -IF- Arc.\

She plays an Angel Feather deck spearheaded by Solidify Celestial, Zerachiel which takes advantage of the clan's ability to manipulate the damage zone to easily assemble her field before powering up her units with Zerachiel's skill.
----
* AscendedExtra: Becomes one of the main characters of Extra Story -IF-.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As the "Called Walkers" are bound into the service of Takuto, [[spoiler:when his body is possessed by the Destiny Conductor, she and her sisters are forcibly made into the first [=PSYqualia=] Zombies.]]
* DopeSlap: She frequently gives this to Ibuki whenever he mocks her dress and starts bragging about cardfight.
* FacialMarkings: Like Takuto, she has a green line that appears on her forehead, although it is usually hidden under her hair. It allows Takuto to share what she sees with Takuto.
* FakeMemories: As one of Takuto's "Called Walkers", she was given new memories to help her fulfill her purpose.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: In ''-IF-'' she and Ibuki are often mistaken to be a couple due to them usually being seen together, bickering LikeAnOldMarriedCouple and living together. Naturally they both vehementally deny to be in any kind of relationship.
* IdolSinger: She is part of the idol trio [=ULTRARARE=].
* ImpliedLoveInterest: She and Ibuki are hinted to have feelings for each other which they start to gradually develop during IF arc but both of them refuse to accept their inner feelings toward each other and in the final scene it is implied that they've accepted their inner feelings towards each other.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She, along with her "sisters" had all their memories erased when they were made into "Called Walkers".
* NeutralNoLonger: In Extra Story -IF-, after encountering a distorted history where she was replaced by Esuka as part of [=ULTRARARE=] and the group no longer being popular, she decides to take a more active role in helping the Blaster Pair correct history.
* OddCouple: She has this dynamic with Ibuki during IF arc, she is calm and rational while he is hot headed and reckless. But both of them live together at the same mansion and he takes care of her like a typical husband would take care of his wife, and both of them frequently bicker LikeAnOldMarriedCouple which causes many people to mistook them as lovers.
* ShipTease: She has some moments with Ibuki and many characters such as her sisters and Shuka tend to ship her with him
* RedOniBlueOni: Suiko is calm, collected and composed blue oni to Ibuki's red.
* {{Tsundere}}: She is a Type A tsundere toward Ibuki, while she deeply cares about his wellbeing but she frequently chides him for his reckless behavior and she is hinted to have feelings for him and when others ship and tease her with Ibuki she nonchalantly denies having feelings for him with a blush.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Even though she has the air of a mature woman in her twenties, she's a teenager the same age as everyone else. Many jokes about this are made at her expense, including a RunningGag about how unfitting her school uniform is on her, and a joke in ''-IF-'' episode 11 about how Ryuzu wanted her to represent the opinions of the "women aged 20 to 34" demographic.

!!Rekka Tatsunagi
!!!Neo Nectar (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/YoshinoNanjo (JP), Michelle Molineux (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rekkatatsunagivfukuhara.png]]
The youngest of the three Tatsunagi sisters and the third member of [=ULTRARARE=]. She attends Fukuhara Middle School.\

Rekka plays a Neo Nectar speardeaded by White Lily Musketeer, Cecilia. She uses her units' skills to call tokens units to the field to fill her rearguard circles without using the cards in her hand.
----
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Instead of using Angel Feather like in the original series, Rekka has a Neo Nectar deck featuring the Musketeer units.
* AscendedExtra: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. While she still received focus in the original series, it was largely in a subplot as part of the ''Яeverse'' arc, where she was BrainwashedAndCrazy. Here she temporarily becomes an ArcVillain via creating Psyqualia Zombies, and then becomes a major supporting protagonist in ''-if-'' after being forced to look after Ren and correct distortions.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As the "Called Walkers" are bound into the service of Takuto, [[spoiler:when his body is possessed by the Destiny Conductor, she and her sisters are forcibly made into the first [=PSYqualia=] Zombies.]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: Rekka's "Love-Love Ride" returns from the original continuity. She also uses variations of the phrase when calling units to a rearguard circle or using them as guardians.
* CloudCuckoolandersMinder: She's forced into this role in ''-if-'' while working with Ren. Since Ren is still largely TheDitz and would rather spend time goofing off than correcting distortions, she's stuck making him do his job. [[spoiler:She's also stuck wiping the memories of people he interacts with when he ''creates'' distortions so as to protect his identity.]]
* FakeMemories: As one of Takuto's "Called Walkers", she was given new memories to help her fulfill her purpose.
* GreenThumb: Rekka's clan of choice, Neo Nectar, is comprised of various forms of plant life, including humanoid ones.
* IdolSinger: Like Kourin and Suiko, she is also part of [=ULTRARARE=].
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She, along with her "sisters" had all their memories erased when they were made into "Called Walkers".
* TheNicknamer: Refers to Kourin and Suiko as Kou and Su instead of using their names.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When Ibuki shows up at the card shop she currently was in, Rekka decides to not take any chances and uses the [=PSYqualia=] zombies present as a distraction to escape.

!!Nome Tatsunagi
->Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSugita (JP)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nome_tatsunagi_v.png]]
Takuto's older brother.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Nome was a character who was originally introduced in the fourth season of the ''G'' series and makes his first appearance during the equivalent to the third season of the original series.
* RefusedByTheCall: When his father died, Takuto was the one chosen to take on the role of the Concert Master instead of Nome despite the latter being the older brother. However this trope gets played with, when he actually felt relieved that he wasn't chosen.
** [[spoiler:Averted in the continuation of the Highschool arc where he has taken Takuto's position as the concert master.]]
* RippleEffectProofMemory: [[spoiler:He is able to remember what happened before destiny was rewrote at the end of the Highschool arc.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Miyaji Academy]]
!!Akari Yotsue
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akari_yotsue_v.png]]
A student from Miyaji Academy and a friend of Misaki.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In the original anime series, Akari was introduced in season 3. Here, she first appears at the beginning of Image 4.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Akari first started hanging out with Misaki in Middle School after some girls stole her hand mirror, and Misaki intimidated them into giving it back.
* NiceGirl: Despite Misaki being unfriendly and there being rumors about her, Akari has no problem greeting her or trying to invite her to karaoke.
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: She sees Aichi's interactions and situations with Misaki and Kourin with romantic undertones even though it's only about Misaki joining the Cardfight Club. She's not that far off since everything they do does sound like love problems.

!!Tatewaki Naitou
!!!Great Nature (Accel)
->Voiced by: Creator/SusumuChiba (JP), Scott Roberts (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tatewaki_naitou_v.png]]
The student council president of Miyaji Academy.\

He plays a Great Nature deck spearheaded by School Hunter, Leo-Pald. He makes use of cards which can send the top card of his deck to the drop zone to activate one out of two effects based on whether the sent card was a trigger or not on top of using skills to strenghthen his units.
----
* AdaptationalDumbass: In cardfights at least, in the original series, he along with Itsuki had no problem learning Vanguard in one night in an vain attempt to beat the Cardfight Club at Vanguard to get them to disband. In this series he has trouble with the rules when Maki tries to explain them to him, but gets confused by the amount of rules and skills. In fact he didn't even know what Vanguard was when Aichi went to him for permission to make the club official.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Played with. In the original series, he saw the Cardfight Club as a waste of resources and wanted it to disband, but in this he has no problem letting the club exist since they adhere to all the rules. In ''VD'' he has a reasonable reason for them to disband since they don't have enough members, but the other reason is because their participation at the Vanguard Koshien would cause their club activity budget go in the red which in turn forces the student council to cut down their budget for snacks. However this is still nicer compared to the original series in which he used more underhanded means to get them to disband.
* CatchPhrase: Is quite fond of using the English word "global" whenever he speaks.
* IntellectualAnimal: He plays with a Great Nature deck which comprised entirely with these which fits with his desire of global orientation.
* LoopholeAbuse: After the student council lost two fights in a row in their competition against the Cardfight Club, he was able to administer a third fight between him and Misaki, because they never agreed that two wins were needed for victory.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Of Miyaji Academy.

!!Itsuki Suwabe
!!!Megacolony (Protect)
->Voiced by: Creator/JunjiMajima (JP), Daniel Nelles (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuki_suwabe_v.png]]
The student council vice president of Miyaji Academy.\

He plays a Megacolony deck featuring the Machining units and uses the Protect II gift marker to strengthen his rearguards' power and shield.
----
* BigCreepyCrawlies: He plays a Megacolony deck which is comprised of giant insects.
* EyesAlwaysShut: His eyes are usually closed.
* GoodWithNumbers: He was able to calculate how much it would cost for the Vanguard club to participate in the tournament.
* SamuraiPonytail: His hair is tied that way but, outside of his position as vice-president of the student council, he otherwise lacks the traits associated with this trope.

!!Maki Nagashiro
!!!Neo Nectar (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/ReinaUeda (JP), Mari Chartier (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maki_nagashiro_v.png]]
The student council secretary of Miyaji Academy.\

She plays a Neo Nectar deck, using their ability to generate tokens to avoid having to call rearguards from hand. She does not particularly focus on the Musketeer units, instead prefering to use Maiden of Trailing Rose as her ace.
----
* ClingyJealousGirl: She was visibly upset when Naoki calls Esuka hot.
* GreenThumb: Just like in the original series, she plays a Neo Nectar deck which is comprised of humanoid plants.
* ShipTease: Her fight with Naoki shows that she has an interest in Naoki as shown that he caused her to start playing Vanguard to understand him and actually blushes when Naoki says "You're in love (with Vanguard), right?".
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: She wears glasses and became the student council's secretary, because of her excellent grades.

!!Eru Nakagami/"Evil-Eye Eru"
!!!Dark Irregulars (Protect)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eru_nakagami.jpg]]
A student from Miyaji Academy and president of the Psychic Research Society which he has been trying to make into an official club.\

Eru plays a Dark Irregular deck with Master of the Fifth Element as his ace. He uses the clan's standard tactics to add cards to the soul to fuel the former's skill which lets him restand his whole field.
----
* {{Chuunibyou}}: An obvious example of the Evil Eye type.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He is a downplayed example of this trope as, in spite of his general attitude, he does has skills as a vanguard fighter.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: After he and the Student Council Trio join the Cardfight Club, he puts forth a startlingly accurate theory as to how the club had gotten into the predicament of being approved despite having only four members in the first place. [[DramaticIrony Though he is promptly ignored.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: His can of choice is Dark Irregulars which is full of demons, vampires and other but Eru himself is not evil.
* FacialMarkings: Has an eye-like marking hidden under his bandage.
* GratuitousEnglish: Often uses English words and expressions whenever he talks, likely to make himself sound cooler.
* PsychicPowers: He claims that he has [=ESP=]. Emphasis on "claims".
* SixthRanger: Serves as one for the student council in the showdown opposing them to the Vanguard club since he wants to make the Psychic Research Society into an official club but lacks the necessary members.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Characters]]
!!Jillian and Sharlene Chen
Twins girls who are related to Leon.
----
* AgeLift: Averted. Unlike Leon, they have been stated to be the same age they were in the original series, making them older than him in this continuity.
* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: They look and even dress identical to each other, with only their voices and the way their hair is tied being different.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: The only way to tell them apart besides their voices is to look at their hair. Jillian's hair is tied on the left while Sharlene's is tied on the right.
* TemptingFate: Sharlene believes that Aichi will be "no problem" for Leon, only for the latter to end up losing.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Sharlene doesn't seem to think much of Aichi and thinks it'll be an easy victory for Leon, despite the latter having made it to the finals of the tournament, defeating many powerhouses to do so.

!!Masaki Ishida
Naoki's older brother and a college student. He is dissatisfied with his younger brother's attitude and wishes the latter would change.
----
* AscendedExtra: Although Naoki was stated to have an older brother in the manga, he did not appear in person.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: As stated in Naoki's entry above, he is a more subdued case of the responsible sibling to Naoki's foolish, having been accepted in a first-rate college while the latter isn't interested in following his example.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Has the same hair and eye color as his younger brother, making it easy to tell they are related.

!!Mamoru Anjou
!!!Kagero (Force)
->Voiced by: Junichi Yanagita (JP), Ben Rose (EN)
A third year at Tokyo Metropolitan Harumi High School, and is teammates with two notable world-class fighters Kenji Mitsusada and Gouki Daimonji. He gives Kai a copy of Dragonic Overlord the End and helps him in dealing with the effects of Delete.\

He uses a Kagero deck, with his ace being Dragonic Blademaster. His strategy is to use Blademaster's skills to retire all of his opponent's rearguard to gain an extra critical and call a Vision token which has the ability to perform twin drive while on a rearguard circle.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Mamoru made his debut in the first season of the G series, here he makes his first appearance during the equivalent to the third season of the original series.
* AgeLift: In the ''G'' series Mamoru was in his mid twenties, here he is around the same age as Asaka and is in his late teens. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] due to the show being an alternate version of the original series that ''G'' was a sequel to.
* {{Foil}}: To fellow Kagero player Kai. The latter is aloof and tends to keep to himself whereas Mamoru is nice and helpful. Also, despite using the same clan, their respective playstyles are different with Mamoru focusing on the retire aspect of Kagero with Blademaster also requiring the presence of allies to use its skill while Kai favors a more vanguard-centric approach with the Overlord units and their signature ability to restand themselves.
* PlayingWithFire: Mamoru is a Kagero user.
[[/folder]]

!!Antagonists

[[folder:Foo Fighter]]
A group of cardfighters who go and force other fighters to fight them using special gloves that inflict electric shocks whenever they take damage, going as far as to take over shops. Among them is Team [=AL4=], or Apex Limited 4, which is comprised of the top four fighters of the organization.
----
* DarkerAndEdgier: Their original incarnation was a legitimate cardfighting organization, albeit one filled with {{Jerkass}} fighters. Here, they're a glorified gang that attacks shops and subjects their opponents to [[ShockAndAwe electric torture]].
* DubNameChange: From Foo Fighters to Team Asteroid. Made especially jarring when they say Foo Fighters but the subtitles read Asteroid.
* HeelFaceTurn: After Ren's defeat at the hands of Aichi, they stopped invading shops.
* {{Jerkass}}: Thus far, none of their members shown on-screen have been particularly pleasant people. At least, [[HeelFaceTurn at first]].
* KlingonPromotion: In order to become a member of team [=AL4=] you need to beat one of their members or someone who has defeated them.
* TheSocialDarwinist: Their one rule is "Winners get all! Losers get lost!".
* ShockAndAwe: The special CF gloves they use inflict an electric shock whenever a player takes a damage. Losing players tend to temporarily collapse from the repeated shocks their bodies are subjected to.
* StopHavingFunGuys: InUniverse example. They force people to play with gloves that shock them whenever they take damage and forcefully take over the shops

!!Ren Suzugamori
!!!Shadow Paladin (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/AtsushiAbe (JP), Roger Rhodes (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ren_6.png]]
The leader of both Team [=AL4=] and the Foo Fighters as a whole. He is a former acquaintance of Kai, having both attended the same middle school.\

His uses the Shadow Paladin clan, with his avatar being Blaster Dark. His strategy revolves around calling rearguards before sacrificing them to use the skill of his Phantom Blaster Dragon while also forcing his opponent to retire their own rearguards. In the High School arc, he upgrades his deck by adding Gust Blaster Dragon as an alternative to Phantom Blaster and including more units with low power or capable of calling units with low power. During the Vanguard Koshien, Ren's deck is now focused around Blaster Dark, supporting it through the addition of the Revenger units, including his new ace Mordred Phantom.\

In ''Extra Story -if-'', he serves as the MysteriousProtector "Mask, the Dark" to the Blaster Pair, wearing a PaperThinDisguise. In truth, he was sent to the ''if'' world with Rekka by Nome so as to find Takuto, and works with the others hoping to save Aichi from Sanctuary.
----
* AbusiveParents: It was shown that Ren's father would hit him if he did not live up to his expectations.
* AccidentalMisnaming: Calls Miwa ''Biwa'' in episode 40.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In the original, he was DrunkOnTheDarkSide and very serious and sadistic. Here, while still an antagonistic force, he is still a bit of an [[TheDitz airhead]] outside of fighting, which is more in accordance with Ren from his season 2 appearance and on rather than his original appearance in season 1.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: No mention was made of Ren's father in the original anime. Additionally, his relationship with Kai from before the start of the story is also different.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: This version of Ren lacks the MightMakesRight mindset of his original series counterpart and is less of a {{Jerkass}} as shown when he doesn't kick out Asaka from [=AL4=] after her loss against Misaki.
* AffablyEvil: For the leader of a gang of {{Jerkass}} Cardfighters, he's fairly cordial to everyone he meets, including the people of the shops his group is trying to invade.
* BloodKnight: Implied if not outright confirmed by his first line.
--> This is boring. Maybe I've gotten too strong. Kai...
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: It wouldn't be Ren if he wasn't this. He's still extremely goofy and airheaded, at one point actually struggling to hold himself up in the corner so he can do his signature card throw, but is ''also'' munching on a croquet at the same time. He even walks around in broad daylight down a busy street wearing his "Mask, the Dark" outfit without a care in the world!
* CoolMask: As "Mask, the Dark", his eyes are concealed by a visor which can be easily mistaken for a crown.
* DeathDealer: As Mask, the Dark, he throws cards with great power and accuracy as shown when they broke the chains of ZANBAKU and his arresters with ease.
* DefeatingTheUndefeatable: Ren's goal is to defeat Kai who, as far as Ren initially knows, never lost a fight. Learning that Aichi defeated Kai before him becomes a sore point for him.
* {{Depower}}: Tetsu and Suiko speculate this has happened to him during the timeskip between the first and second arcs in regards to his [=PSYqualia=] as he is no longer shown using it and they even speculate that he may no longer have it at all. This is eventually subverted as Ren is still shown to have it but simply chooses to not use it unless the situation demands it.
* TheDitz: When not fighting, he's a bit of a dork. He casually walks up to other fighters ignorant of their visible stress talking to him, easily confuses Kyou for a girl when Kyou tells him to stop calling him "boy" in an episode preview, and mistook Kawanami acting like a dog for ''an actual dog'' up until he spoke.
* {{Expy}}: His role as "Mask, the Dark" makes him the Tuxedo Mask to Emi's Manga/SailorMoon, even {{throwing|YourSwordAlwaysWorks}} a copy of Blaster Dark much like Tuxedo Mask throws a rose.
* IconicItem: His avatar card, Blaster Dark.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: While he retired his usage of [=PSYqualia=] since he's already strong enough without it. He's still able to use it consciously, but only does it when it's truly needed. In fact he along with Aichi didn't use [=PSYqualia=] till a point Tetsu and Suiko thought they may have lost it.
* LonelyAtTheTop: His driving motivation. Ren is bored out of his mind due to no one being able to challenge him, and he perceives Kai as being the same way. He believes that the two of them can mitigate each other's boredom, but Kai rejects Ren's reliance on [=PSYqualia=].
* MysteriousProtector: A clear parody of this since he usually appears as "Mask, the Dark" whenever the Blaster Pair are in trouble, although Ibuki and Suiko already know who he is.
* TheNicknamer: Refers to the other members of [=AL4=] by nicknames instead of using their real names, except for Kyou who he refers only as "Boy" due to not acknowledging his strength. He later extends this to Misaki, showing that he acknowledges her skill.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: The end of his fight against Asaka has him defeat her using Gust Blaster Dragon that, thanks to a combination if its own skill and double critical triggers, reached a total of six criticals.
* PaperThinDisguise: {{Play|ingWithATrope}}ed with. Ibuki and Suiko are easily able to tell "Mask, the Dark" is just him, but everyone else is completely clueless. The latter however is largely because they either didn't know him prior, or [[LaserGuidedAmnesia can't remember him]]. Even then though, Emi and Shuka still can't figure out Ren and Mask, the Dark are one in the same despite meeting both, only figuring it out when he openly reveals his identity to them.
* PsychicPower: He still has his [=PSYqualia=], and it can extend to fights not involving him as shown during Asaka's fight with Misaki.
* ShouldersOfDoom: His outfit as "Mask, the Dark" possesses massive shoulders similar to those of Blaster Dark, to the point it's become a RunningGag where people will be too distracted by them or call him "Mask, the Shoulder Pads".

!!Tetsu Shinjou
!!!Dark Irregulars (Protect)
->Voiced by: Creator/TetsuInada (JP)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tetsushinjouv.png]]
A member of Team [=AL4=] and Ren's second-in-command. He, like Ren, knew Kai back when the latter was part of Foo Fighters. He is the creator of the [=VF=] Gloves used by the members of Foo Fighters.\

He uses a Dark Irregulars deck, building up the number of cards in his soul to unlock the abilities of his units while relying on the Protect gift marker to help defend against attacks. To finish his opponent, he relies on No Life King, Death Anchor allowing him to make another attack with his vanguard by riding another Grade 3 from the soul mid-battle with the added bonus of an extra critical. In the High School arc, he replaces it with Dantarian and instead focuses on powering up his units.
----
* DePower: [[spoiler:He's the first major victim of Ibuki's Deletors, severing his connection as a Vanguard to Cray, and making him lose his connection to his deck.]]
* DragonInChief: He's been Ren's right hand ever since Foo Fighters conception. That said, Ren's general [[TheDitz ditzy]] nature forces Tetsu to take charge more often than not, ranging from deploying fighters to organizing raids. Episode 19 even shows he was the one who created the [=VF=] gloves and proposed that Foo Fighters start taking over the shops.
* TheHeavy: As the one responsible for not only organizing the raids on card shops but proposing the idea in the first place, Tetsu is reponsible for most of the events of the [=PSYqualia=] arc happening.
* MrExposition: Fulfills this role in regards to explaining how [=PSYqualia=] works. Justified since Tetsu has developed an interest in it and has been studying it for some time.
* OhCrap: His reaction to learning that Kai was the fighter that beat Minami.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ren.
* TheWorfEffect: Is the first fighter defeated by Ibuki in an on-screen fight in order to establish the latter and his Deletors as a threat.
* TooDumbToLive: Tetsu has made several short-sighted decisions.
** When testing out his VF gloves, he has [[DevotedToYou Asaka]] use them against Ren, and despite the visible pain they put her in, she brushes it off solely to make Ren happy, convincing Tetsu to go through with the plan to mass produce them thinking they'd work fine, in the process ignoring how they act more like instruments of torture.
** When fighting Ibuki, who he knows has [=PSYqualia=], he proceeds to allow an attack to go through while he's at three damage, while Ibuki is playing a Force based deck, as in a deck known to run ''8 critical triggers''. Two seconds later Ibuki's [=PSYqualia=] gives his two critical triggers and Tetsu not only loses[[spoiler:, but he's also {{DePower}}ed in the process]].

!!Asaka Narumi
!!!Pale Moon (Accel)
->Voiced by: Creator/HitomiNabatame (JP), Laura Rushfeldt (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asaka_5.png]]
The third member of Team [=AL4=] who has a crush on Ren. She comes to Card Capital after learning that Kai was there and confronts Miwa and Misaki in cardfights.\

Asaka plays a Pale Moon deck using the clan's ability to call units from the soul and the extra circle provided by the Accel gift marker to gain extra attacks. This aggressive playstyle, however, has the downside of depleting her hand either as a result of calling rearguards or by using it to pay the cost for the skill of her units.
----
* ClingyJealousGirl: Asaka doesn't appreciate when Ren takes Misaki's hand and extend an invitation for her to join Foo Fighters.
* DevotedToYou: As in the original, Asaka is devoted to Ren completely, her hunting for Kai solely due to her wanting to alleviate Ren's boredom.
* DiscardAndDraw: When fighting against Ren [[spoiler:as a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie]], she uses Barking Dragon Tamer and Gun Salute Dragon, End of Stage as the aces of her deck instead of her Golden Beast Tamer.
* DrivenByEnvy: She volunteers to fight against Aichi in the exchange match because she resents him for having helped Ren, something she wish she had been the one to do.
* DudeMagnet: When she works as a shopkeeper at Card Capital, she attracts many guys who only seem to just go there and buy stuff to meet her.
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Asaka has feelings for Ren who doesn't seem to care. He does however value her as both a fighter and as a teammate.
* MsFanservice: She's given no shortage of gratuitous shots highlighting her various curves.
* OhCrap: Her reaction to learning that Kai was the fighter that beat Minami.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only member of [=AL4=] to be female.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ren.

!!Kyou Yahagi
!!!Murakumo (Accel)
->Voiced by: Creator/AkenoWatanabe (JP), Logan Shave (EN)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyou_yahagi_v.png]]
A young cardfighter who is the fourth member of Team [=AL4=]. He was the one who took over Kamui's old shop and the former seeks payback against him for that.\

He plays a Murakumo deck headlined by Dueling Dragon, ZANBAKU, combining the clan's trademark cloning ability with the additional offense provided by the Accel gift marker and powerful skills that can lock down the opponent's vanguard.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: His original version remained a {{Jerkass}} after being kicked out of [=AL4=], going on to lead [[GoldfishPoopGang Team Avenger]]. Here, he honors the rules of the fight and picks up Kamui's cards after losing to Aichi, and [[HeelFaceTurn begins following Aichi around]].
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Kyou plays a Murakumo deck in this continuity instead of the Spike Brothers he used in the original anime or Nubatama like his manga counterpart due to his cards from the manga having originally been printed as Murakumo and kept as such when they were remade for the reboot.
* AscendedExtra: After his initial loss, he is rarelly seen and is only focused on shenanigans. Here while he isn't seen as much after the initial arc, he's also shown to be a member of Aichi's inner circle.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: He doesn't remember taking over Kamui's old shop.
* DePower: [[spoiler:He was deleted by Ibuki, severing his connection to Vanguard. But he can still regain it although it takes time.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Just look at him. In Image 14’s NextEpisodePreview Ren even mistakes him for a girl when Kyou tries to get him to stop calling him "boy".
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He hates that Ren doesn't even remember his name and calls him "boy" despite being in the same team, because he doesn't recognize his skill.
* HeelFaceTurn: After being kicked out of [=AL4=], he initially runs off, but then begins following Aichi around and telling him about other [=AL4=] targets so Aichi can stop them. However, he does so in order to try and learn more about [=PSYqualia=] and see if he can obtain it.
* IGaveMyWord: After losing to Aichi he picks up Kamui's card as promised.
* MesACrowd: His Murakumo deck can call copies of the same card as shown with Million Rat.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Kyou has white hair and like other members of Foo Fighters, he is a jerk as evidenced by him throwing Kamui's deck in the air after the latter lost to him. SubvertedTrope after losing to Aichi, as he begins following Aichi around and telling him where to find [=AL4=] members.

!!Minami Kawanami
!!!Megacolony (Protect)
->Voiced by: Creator/AnriKatsu (JP), Reamonn Joshee (JP)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minamikawanamiv_2.png]]
A member of Foo Fighter who went to Card Capital to take over the shop.\

His deck uses the Megacolony clan and is focused around the Machining units.
----
* AdaptationExpansion: Downplayed. In the manga, Minami ran away before Kai could deal 3 damage to him with Dragonic Overlord and shock him with his gloves. In the anime, he stays for the entire fight and takes the attack, losing the fight before scurrying off.
* AnimalBattleAura: Has a dog-shaped one appear behind him before he fights against Shingo.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Minami uses a Megacolony deck, which feature large insects.
* ButtMonkey: Not only does Kai crush him in a vanguard fight and makes him run away, but after being caught by Tetsu and Asaka, he is forced to act as the latter's dog, right down to wearing a collar and being left outside tied to a post.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: After being forced to wear a dog collar by Asaka, he not only begins walking on all fours next to her, he continues acting like a dog even when she isn't around. He even goes as far as to get into a ''barking fight'' with another dog. While he does act like a human later on when acting as a student at Fukuhara, he still has several dog like mannerisms, going as far to sniff his deck for triggers while fighting Suiko, much to both Suiko and Asaka's disgust.
* DirtyCoward: While he has no problem torturing his opponents, when he is about to get his ass kicked by Kai's Dragonic Overlord he runs away in fear. Even when he takes the attack in the anime, he still runs away after losing to avoid getting shocked.
* HazyFeelTurn: He stops invading shops like the rest of the Foo Fighters after Aichi beats Ren, but he still acts like a SmugSnake while in the Fukuhara Cardfight Club, and has made no indication he regrets what he's done.
* SmugSnake: Talks big, but when things go south for him in his duel against Kai, he's quick to run away.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: An extremely sadistic SmugSnake, who won't hesitate to cut and run when things look too bad for him. {{Downplayed|Trope}} after the Foo Fighters disband and he joins the Fukuhara Cardfight Club. He's no longer a villain, but he's still a SmugSnake and kinda unpleasant.

!!Kiriya Bidou
!!!Pale Moon (Accel)
A member of Foo Fighters stationed at one of the shops Aichi, Kamui and Kyou visit during their "Foo Fighter Hunt".\

He is shown to use a Pale Moon deck which included Artilleryman.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: While Kiriya is mentioned in the manga, he did not appear in the [=PSYqualia=] arc.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the first season of the original series, Bidou was part of Brilliant Stars, the second-ranked team within Foo Fighters and a candidate for moving up to [=AL4=] but who had the misfortune of going up against Aichi with his [=PSYqualia=] active. Here, in this series, he is defeated off-screen by Aichi without him having to use [=PSYqualia=].
* OhCrap: When he realizes that the person he inadvertently told to go away was none other than Ren.

!!Osamu Kishida
!!!Megacolony (Protect)
A member of [=SL3=], the second strongest group of fighters within Foo Fighters, below only [=AL4=]. Aichi, Kamui and Kyou meet him at cardshop [=GBH=] where Kyou has him fight Aichi in order to test the latter's [=PSYqualia=].\

Like Minami, he uses a Megacolony deck focused around the Machining units.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: In the first series, Osamu was merely a cardfighter who fought Aichi over the last spot in the Shop tournament but wasn't otherwise much of a jerk, or even that notable of a character. Here, he is a member of Foo Fighters, a gang that takes over shops and fights using gloves that inflict electric shocks.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Like in the original series, he uses a Megacolony deck.
* DePower: [[spoiler:The first person shown to have been deleted by Ibuki.]]
* SmugSnake: Acts dismissive toward both Kyou and Aichi, in spite of always losing against the former.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Has white hair and is part of Foo Fighters.

!!Professor O
!!!Murakumo (Accel)
Another member of [=SL3=]. He is encountered by Aichi, Kamui and Kyou at the Card Heroes shop.\

He plays a Murakumo deck, featuring Covert Demonic Dragon, Mandala Lord.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: His counterpart in the original anime was simply a CombatCommentator. Here, like in the manga, Professor O is part of Foo Fighters.
* PaletteSwap: Of his counterpart in the original series, having white hair and a black outfit instead of black hair and a white outfit.
* VerbalTic: Emphasizes "O" sounds when he speaks.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Another member of Foo Fighter with white hair.

[[folder:Brandt]]
!!Kouji Ibuki
!!!Link Joker (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/MamoruMiyano (JP)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koujiibukiv2.png]]
A student at Fukuhara High School. Despite being a skilled Vanguard fighter, he refuses to join the school's club, claiming he hates Vanguard. He is also a childhood friend of Kai and Miwa and the one who taught them how to play Vanguard in the first place.

In the Extra Story -IF- Arc, Ibuki is one of the main protagonists. \

Ibuki plays a Link Joker deck centered around the Deletor units. His deck is spearheaded by his avatar Docking Deletor, Greion which possesses the unique ability to delete the opponent's vanguard, depriving them of their power and skills. He later switches to a different deck spearheaded by Harmonics Messiah which revlves around placing cards in locked position as a way to gain advantage and then unlock them in order to make additional attack.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: {{Play|ingWithATrope}}ed with here. In his more well known anime incarnation, there was no indication of him ever having [=PSYqualia=]. In the original manga where he debuted however, and the V Series takes inspiration from, Ibuki did have [=PSYqualia=].
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: His manga and G Series counterpart was quiet and TheStoic akin to Kai, here Ibuki is very talkative, hot-headed and impatient. His G counterpart was a very calculating BatmanGambit who makes decision carefully, this Ibuki is very rash and reckless who doesn't know how to think twice.
* AdaptationalDumbass: His G counterpart was a skilled strategist who was [[CrazyPrepared always one step ahead of his foes]], this Ibuki doesn't even know how to use his brains and acts as a IdiotHero during the IF arc.
* TheAtoner: In the continuation of the Highschool arc, he resolves to make up for his past mistakes by restoring the cardfighting ability of the people he deleted with his Messiah deck. This continues into -IF-, where Nome tells him to help fix the timeline to atone for his sins, especially as the BigBad Aichi loathes Vanguard like Ibuki used to.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: His original goal was to create a world where things are not decided with Vanguard and now he is in one (the If World), but he desperately wants to get out of that world and return everything back to normal.
* ButtMonkey: In ''Extra Story -IF-'', he takes the brunt of the story's slapstick due to being a normal man trying to fight against actual units who in turn don't resolve conflicts by playing the game.
* CatchPhrase: Ibuki will often declare Delete End just as he's about to win a fight against an opponent whose vanguard has been deleted.
* ChildhoodFriends: He was friends with Kai and Miwa when they were children, and even was the one who first taught them how to play Vanguard.
* DePower: Not him, but rather something he can do to others. His Deletors sever the connection between Vanguards and their units, making them lose all interest and connection with the game, so far subjecting all of Fukuhara to this outside of Ren, Asaka, Kyou, and Rekka. And Kyou is currently his next target.
* DiscardAndDraw: The end of Dimension 8 has him leave his Deletor deck behind and gaining his new Messiah deck.
* DemotedToComicRelief: Subverted. After serving as the BigBad during the first half of high school arc, Ibuki becomes one of the main characters during IF arc. But he becomes a comic relief and a residental ButtMonkey member of his team, frequently taking burnt of slapstick.
* EarlyBirdCameo: His child self appeared in a flashback in episode 2 and was shown in the first ending, long before Ibuki made his entrance in the story proper.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: Both he and Suiko are hinted to harbour feelings for each other but they nonchalantly denies their inner feelings towards each other and by the end of the series it is implied that they have accepted their inner feelings towards each other.
* IdiotHero: Despite being told that card fighting doesn't exist at ''IF'' world, Ibuki still tries to challenge others to a cardfight whenever he suspects them as Jammers and this becomes a RunningGag for him.
* {{Meido}}: Suiko forced Ibuki to wear a maid outfit due to him owing when he forgot his wallet at a ramen shop.
* OddCouple: He has this dynamic with Suiko during the IF arc, he is hotheaded, rash and stubborn while she is level-headed, calm and collected. But both of them live together at the same mansion and he takes care of her like a typical husband would take care of his wife and they frequently bicker with each other LikeAnOldMarriedCouple which causes many characters to mistook them as lovers.
* PsychicPowers: Has [=PSYqualia=] in this continuity.
* RedOniBlueOni: He is hotheaded and impulsive red oni to Suiko's blue.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His eyes are red and not only is he a strong fighter, but losing to him will cause his opponent's connection to Vanguard to be erased.
* ReformedButRejected: {{Play|ingWithATrope}}ed with in regards to him attempting to join the Fukuhara Cardfight club. While Tetsu and Ren are accepting of him, Asaka and most of the other members, some of whom were deleted by Ibuki in the previous arc, on the other hand were not and Asaka had to be defeated in a fight before grudgingly accepting him as part of the club.
* ShipTease: He has some moments with Suiko.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: In ''-IF-'' he and Suiko are often mistaken to be a couple due to them usually being seen together, bickering LikeAnOldMarriedCouple and living together. Naturally they both vehementally deny to be in any kind of relationship.
* SignatureMon: Ibuki's avatar in this series is Docking Deletor, Greion, but he later switches to Harmonics Messiah as part of his redemption.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Ibuki is completely disinterested in the Destiny Conductor's plans, and even though Ibuki unwittingly brought him to Earth, Ibuki wants nothing to do with him. Best demonstrated when he faces and defeats Suiko, interfering with the Destiny Conductor's campaign at Fukuhara, solely because he found their actions irritating. However, in spite of the above, the Destiny Conductor still believes Ibuki to be an ally.
** Specifically, Ibuki's victory against [[spoiler:Kai]] was seen as a good thing by the Destiny Conductor since it removed a potential threat to his plans but failed to realize that it would anger Aichi, causing the latter to challenge Ibuki which would lead up to [[spoiler:Aichi breaking free of the Conductor's control and defeating both Ibuki and the Conductor himself.]]
* SupportingProtagonist: Ibuki is the primary viewpoint character in ''Extra Story -IF-'', the plot occurring because he keeps seeing Sanctuary and Nome saying that him getting rid of it is his means of atonement while using the Deletors. However, the primary story is largely focused on the Blaster Pair: Emi and Shuka, as they are the ones who fight the Jammers and Emi's desire to save Aichi is what drives their actions. As such, even though Ibuki is the viewpoint character, Emi is the one used in promotional material when showing all of the protagonists.
* UnwittingPawn: Ibuki believed that the Deletors appeared because he imagined them but the truth is that they were sent over by the Destiny Conductor for his own purposes.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Ibuki was a shy kid in the past which contrasts his current cold nature.
* VillainousRescue: An unintentional one for Aichi. Right as Kyou is about to force Aichi into a cardfight with the intent of turning him into a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie after Aichi's been forced to fight several Zombies already, Ibuki shows up and forces Kyou to face him instead.
* WildCard: While he was meant to be a pawn of the Destiny Conductor, Ibuki's own goal of destroying Vanguard clashes with the Conductors plans, leading Ibuki to become a SpannerInTheWorks to him. And while he isn't on the Conductors side, he is by no means an ally to the heroes either, as he will not hesitate to Delete any fighter he comes across.
* WrongGenreSavvy: In ''-IF-'', he constantly [[DuelsDecideEverything tries to resolve problems through cardfights]] even though the enemies in ''-IF-'' are physical threats rather than card game players.

!!Destiny Conductor
!!!Link Joker (Force)
->Voiced by: Creator/AyahiTakagaki (JP)
An entity who introduces themselves as "the one who commands fate". They took of control of Takuto's body following the latter's loss to Ibuki. They seek to control Vanguard fighters by turning them into [=PSYqualia=] zombies but their motive for doing so is currently unknown.\

He plays a Link Joker deck focused on the Starhulk units and spearheaded by his avatar Wandering Starhulk Ruler, Brandt which has the ability to reverse the effects of triggers.
----
* BigBad: He is this for the High School arc, being responsible for both the [=PSYQualia=] Zombies and Ibuki's actions as he gave the latter the Deletor units.
* DemonicPossession: After Takuto was deleted by Ibuki, his body became an empty shell which the Destiny Conductor then proceeded to take as his own.
* EvilLaugh: Gives one as he introduces himself to Ibuki.
* EvilPlan: A relatively simple one. He seeks to control all Vanguard fighters by turning them into [=PSYQualia=] Zombies. [[spoiler:His purpose for doing so is to facilitate the invasion of Cray by the forces of the Wandering Planet, Brandt by taking advantage of the effects that the vanguard fights done on Earth have on Cray.]]
* IAmNotLeftHanded: If his avatar isn't enough to deal with his opponent, he has the Grade 4 unit Wandering Starhulk Deity, Brandt Ringer.
* MageKiller: Thanks to the skills of his avatar unit, his deck is perfectly suited to defeat [=PSYQualia=] users and is even described as a [=PSYQualia=] Killer by other characters.
* SocialDarwinist: Holds the belief that the "weak" are fated to be the prey of the "strong". Of course, he sees himself [[spoiler:and the rest of Planet Brandt]] as the "Strong".

!![=PSYqualia=] Zombies
!!!Various
Fighters who lost to a minion of the Destiny Conductor and were given the power of [=PSYqualia=]. However, they become compelled to seek out other vanguard fighters and defeat them to turn them into [=PSYqualia=] zombies.

Fighters who were turned into a zombie include Suiko, Rekka, Kourin, Asaka, Kyou, several students from Fukuhara High School and Middle School, Kamui, Morikawa, Izaki, Inenaga, Professor O, Shingo, [[spoiler:Naoki, Aichi, Misaki and Ren]].
----
* BloodKnight: They are compelled to battle against other vanguard fighters so they can turn them into zombies.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To the Reversed Fighters from the original series, with both groups consisting of fighters brainwashed after being defeated by a fighter converted by the BigBad of the series. When a Reversed Fighter is converted by the Void’s power, they have their fears and insecurities preyed upon, amplifying their negative emotions, after which they gain red facial markings and a Reversed Unit that disappears after being defeated. Meanwhile, when a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie is converted by the Destiny Conductor’s power, they more or less retain their original personalities, gain a red mark on their forehead, and given the ability to use [=PSYqualia=] until they are defeated in a fight.
* FaceFramedInShadow: On several occasions, some of the zombies are shown with their faces obscured.
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: A twisted take on this trope as being defeated by a [=PSYQualia=] Zombie will cause you to join their side.
* KeystoneArmy: Defeating the individual who started the infection will cause all of those turned into a zombie by them or those they turned into zombies to be freed. [[spoiler:This happens when Ibuki defeats Suiko, subsequently freeing all of the Fukuhara high school students.]]
** However, it is shown that if there multiple sources for the infection, defeating only one of them will not be sufficient [[spoiler:as shown when Aichi remains a zombie even after Kourin is defeated by Misaki.]]
* PsychicPowers: As the name suggest, they all possess [=PSYqualia=].
* TheVirus: Their modus operandi. Any fighter who is defeated by a zombie will become a zombie themselves.
