Yggdrasill is a powerful corporation that manages and controls Zawame City.

!!General Tropes
[[quoteright:163:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/team_ygg_7201.png]]

* ArcVillain: They are the main antagonists of the New Generation Riders Saga.
* BigBrotherIsWatchingYou[=/=]SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: There are Yggdrasill agents armed with video cameras to film anything related to the Crack occurences in Zawame City for the purpose of research. Even Helheim Forest is no exception. Incidents [[spoiler:such as Yuya eating an unripe Lock Seed and transforming into the Byakko Inves only to get killed by Gaim]] were all caught on tape.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Their takeover of Zawame city lead to Kaito's AbusiveParents and caused him to develop into what would eventually become Lord Baron.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: In the beginning, Yggdrasill was played up to be the evil organization that the Beat Riders had to take down. [[spoiler:Then the Overlords appeared, {{Enemy Civil War}} ensues, and Yggdrasill collapses, mid-series.]]
* EnemyCivilWar: [[spoiler:After Takatora is betrayed, the company's inner circle rips itself apart.]]
* EvilVersusEvil:
** Them versus the Helheim Forest, some for more nobler reasons than others.
** And versus Idunn, a Rider bent on destroying Yggdrasill and everyone connected to its legacy.
** And finally, there is Kugai Kudo/Kamen Rider Saver, who uses Lockseeds as a way to have people becoming ''suicide bombers'' in order to destroy Yggdrasill.
* {{Foil}}: Each of the four main members is one to a member of the central trio:
** Takatora is Kouta if he got crushed under the cynicism of adulthood and gave up on trying to save everybody in favor of just saving as many as he could.
** Yoko is Kaito if he gave up on wanting to change the way the powerful crush the powerless, and instead let his SocialDarwinist worldview lead him to side with whoever has the most power and ambition.
** Ryouma is the genius [[TheChessmaster chessmaster]] that Micchy thinks he is, while Sid is the selfish, backstabbing slimeball that Micchy would actually grow up to be if he never changed his ways.
* GreaterScopeVillain: They are seen as such in the Beat Riders Saga before Kouta finds just how tied they are to the situation. They also serve as one to the overall BigBad. [[spoiler:Had they not forced his parents out of business, Kaito wouldn't have adopted the dog-eat-dog philosophy that he strives to destroy]].
** In addition, the villains of three of the ''Gaim Gaiden'' movies[[note]]''Zangetsu Gaiden'', ''Baron Gaiden'' and ''Duke Gaiden''[[/note]] either received their Drivers from Yggdrasill or were created from freak experiments performed by the company, making them this to the ''Gaim Gaiden'' movies as well. Even in ''Knuckle Gaiden'' it is shown that [[spoiler:Yggdrasill is still handing out Sengoku Drivers and Lockseeds.]]
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Yggdrasill is hyper-competent about everything ''except'' their security detail. The guards forget to watch the cameras, the executives never turn off or log out of computers with sensitive information, and the Kurokage Troopers spectacularly fail during critical moments: Not only can they be tricked by simply making a sharp turn; they manage to let three targets escape while not landing a single hit with their cannons, as well as how a 16-year-old boy flying a Dandeliner for the first time does a better job than the mooks specifically trained for it.
* ItIsDehumanizing: Many members of Yggdrasill call the Armored Riders 'guinea pigs'.
* KillItWithFire: Whenever the Helheim Forest encroaches onto Zawame City Yggdrasill puts a stop to it with a copious amount of fire.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Yggdrasil slandered the Beat Riders and made the once joy-filled hobby look like a criminal organization sending Inves on people. [[spoiler:Ryoma does this exact same thing to them by exposing their plans, making the once prosperous organization look like a terrorist cell]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://youtu.be/y_mOGZyAynQ Has one.]]
* TheMasquerade: Yggdrasill is all over the place with this from making people think that the Armored Riders are a new fad to covering up the Helheim Forest's existence and stopping it from encroaching onto the human world.
* MeaningfulName: One of the show's many references to Myth/NorseMythology.
* MegaCorp: Played straight to a T. Yggdrasill controls most businesses and socioeconomic aspects of Zawame City. They claimed to have improved the quality of living of the citizens, which is a debatable point. [[spoiler:On the other hand, Yggdrasill has kept the residents of Zawame City in the dark about the Helheim threat. Among their methods of combating the threat include preparing a WMD that can wipe out the entire city anytime with the press of a button. However, Yggdrasill's Project Ark takes the cake. A top secret plan to kill off 6/7 of the world's population.]]
* OmniscientCouncilOfVagueness[=/=]NotSoOmniscientCouncilOfBickering: Yggdrasill's inner circle is somewhere in between these two tropes. While they know a lot more than anyone else about what's going on; it's clear that they don't know everything, they're barely able to get along, and Takatora admits that they can barely control the Helheim situation.
* RenegadeSplinterFaction: One [[spoiler:led by Ryoma that has completely taken over the organization with Takatora as the only Rider that is not a member of Ryoma's nut club.]]
* SelfDisposingVillain: [[spoiler:Yggdrasill basically defeated itself: after Takatora was apparently killed, the other New Generation Riders proceeded to rip the organization into pieces, allowing Redyue to easily conquer its main headquarters. The final nail in the coffin was when Ryoma revealed the secrets of Project Ark to the whole world. Honestly, Kouta could have sat on his ass twiddling his thumbs and waited for Yggdrasill to implode on itself.]]
* SupervillainLair: Yggdrasill Tower. It towers over Zawame City, has a permanent portal to Helheim in it, is heavily armed with laser guns, has an [[InvisibilityCloak stealth camoflage system]] to stop the populace from realizing anything weird is going on, and possesses the Scalar System, a weapon of mass destruction that can destroy the entire city and kill everyone in it. [[spoiler:From #32 onward, the building is used by the Overlords as their landing site on Earth, making it their own SupervillainLair. In the epilogue, it is shown being dismantled.]]
* VillainsWantMercy: In #11, when the Yggdrasill camp is being overrun by Inves, one of the scientists begs Kouta for help despite laughing and talking about how the Beat Riders are just guinea pigs before. Kouta calls him out on being a {{hypocrite}}, but still helps save the day.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Yggdrasill encourages the popularity of the Inves Game by distributing Lock Seeds, hands out Drivers to kids as part of their shady experiments, and later frames them for the outbreak of the Inves Plague. Granted, #16 hints that Yggdrasill might not be so villainous after all, as their means might be justified to save humanity.
* TheWorldTree: Evoked in their name, which ties into the whole "fruit" theme[[note]]If you don't get it, what is one of the things that fruit grows on?[[/note]]. Their headquarters is even a tree-shaped tower.

!!Ryoma Sengoku/New Generation Rider Duke
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Tsunenori Aoki (live), Kenji Tominaga (suit)

[[caption-width-right:210:[[note]] In ''Movie War Full Throttle'' https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mecha_ryoma_sengoku.png[[/note]]]]

-->''"I think I can go higher. More powerful; more versatile; power worthy of a god."''

A scientist working in the R&D Department of Yggdrasill under Takatora. He is the creator of the Sengoku and Genesis Drivers, and is studying the expansion of Helheim Forest with great interest. Although he is technically the subordinate of Takatora, he speaks to his boss with a overly-familiar tone and is not afraid to undermine him for the sake of his experiments.

He later becomes a user of the next-generation Genesis Driver, using the Lemon Energy Lock Seed to transform into New Generation Rider Duke.

!!!Tropes that apply to him in general
* AGlassOfChianti: Seems like the professor had some red wine stashed away in his makeshift lab. He's seen seated comfortably with a glass in hand in #43.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Is really fascinated by Helheim forest, despite it being able to exterminate humanity within 10 years.
* AbsentMindedProfessor: Another dark take on an otherwise comedic trope. Ryoma lives in his own nutty world of mad science, and unless reality can help him with it he completely lacks empathy.
* AffablyEvil: Sure, he only cares about his own plans, but that doesn't stop him from being one of the most polite characters in the show.
* AlmightyJanitor: On the surface, he's just a quirky MadScientist. [[spoiler:But in reality, he's a crazy SocialDarwinist that leads his own faction that controls all of Yggdrasill's Kamen Riders.]]
* AlwaysSecondBest: [[spoiler:Ryoma secretly hates Helheim because it's better at making things evolve than him.]]
* AmbitionIsEvil: Heavily gives off this vibe. As long as he can create new Drivers, he seems entirely unconcerned about the citizens suffering under the expansion of the Helheim Forest.
* ArcVillain: For the New Generation Riders Saga, where he's revealed to be the true power within Yggdrasill. He also shares it with Redyue during the first half of Forbidden Fruit Saga and solely takes over in the second half once she's taken out.
* ArchEnemy: He and Takatora are ultimately this to each other, despite having once been friends. Ryoma views Takatora's worldview with contempt and plots to dispose of him once he's done using him as a pawn, although Takatora isn't aware of this and sees Ryoma as a friend up right up until he outright backstabs him. ''Movie War Full Throttle'' gives the two a final battle to settle things, and Takatora spends most of Gaim's post-series content working to clean up the mess that Ryoma and other corrupt members of Yggdrasill have made.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Ryoma putting his brain into Hakaider's body violates so many biological laws it's not even funny, and raises way too many questions (like why his body didn't decompose). Of course, those who are familiar with the {{Series/Kikaider}} franchise know that [[MythologyGag this is perfectly reasonable within that series]].
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:In #43, he becomes the first victim to fall to Kaito after he becomes Lord Baron. At that point he had ''more'' than earned it.]]
* BackAlleyDoctor: Serves as this role during #42-43 where Micchy gets him to extract the Golden Fruit from Mai. As Micchy found this out the hard way, Ryoma has all the trustworthiness of one as well. This is something we don't see someone [[Series/KamenRiderAgito who does a medical work without a license]] until [[Series/KamenRiderExAid three years later]].
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:His mind gets assimilated into the Megahex collective during ''Movie War Full Throttle'', allowing Megahex to recreate him.]]
* BadassBookworm: Is probably the smartest character of the show and probably the third strongest Rider, behind Kouta and Takatora.
* BadassLabcoat: Always clad in a long white labcoat when on the job.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: He manages to remove two major threats for Kouta in a single episode: [[spoiler:Micchy and himself. He broke Micchy by killing Mai and then he was DrivenToSuicide after he was beaten down by Kaito]].
** According to ''Gaim Gaiden: Zangetsu'', the girl who tried to kill Takatora loses her Driver and managed to slip off... until Ryoma found her.
* BerserkButton:
** Not knowing something. Seeing Kachidoki Arms made him flip out.
** Later on, it's revealed that his button is seeing humanity advance ''without'' his research or study, which Kachidoki Arms and [[spoiler:Lord Baron]] demonstrate.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Ryoma also wanted to go {{Transhuman}}. Hakaider allowed him to do that...and he didn't exactly know what he was getting into.
* BigBad: By #25 it's pretty obvious who's really in charge of Yggdrasil. The Helheim crisis wouldn't have gotten nearly as bad if not for Ryoma hiding information and scheming to take advantage of it for his own ends.
** BigBadWannabe: But even a tight noose around the biggest corporation couldn't hold a candle to [[spoiler:demigods lording over an EldritchLocation]].
** BigBadEnsemble: He spends the series competing for the Golden Fruit with several other villains, most notably [[spoiler:Mitchy and the Overlords]]. However, Ryouma is ultimately the most evil of all the villains in the series, and he survives the events of the story longer than [[spoiler:the Overlords]] do. His actions and crimes still have major impact and lasting consequences on the story, so it could be argued that he's the BigBad, [[spoiler:even if he's not the FinalBoss]].
* BloodKnight: When he finally gets into a straight fight, you can tell he's having the time of his life.
* BowelBreakingBricks: [[spoiler:When Mai accepts her role as the Woman at the Beginning in #43,]] he can only stand there in shock while the sound of liquid hitting the floor is heard...then the camera focuses on the broken jar on the table, showing the sound is from the jar's contents, not him.
* BreakThemByTalking: He's so good at doing so, and his words DO make sense to [[spoiler:Micchy in #43:]]
-->'''Ryoma''': [[spoiler:"You see, little prince Kureshima! Didn't Takatora ever tell you why he didn't want you to grow up bad? Liars, cowards, lousy children like you are easy prey for lousy adults!"]]
* BreakoutVillain: Has become one of the more popular characters and gets enough post-show appearances to rival the main four, such as ''Movie War Full Throttle'' and some of the ''Gaim Gaiden'' specials, with one of which was slated to have Ryoma as the main character, which he got by winning a poll. Duke is also a villainous Rider that tends to get brought back a lot, including in the ''Kamen Rider Brain'' special and ''Film/KamenRiderBeyondGenerations''.
* BrokenPedestal: Him leaving everyone to die when the Overlords invade is what causes [[spoiler:Minato]] to defect.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: The guy has his quirks. When asked why the Sengoku Drivers make catchphrases, he admits it's a guilty pleasure.
* CardCarryingVillain: Ryoma doesn't flat out call himself evil, but he makes no excuses for his actions and is ''very'' open about the fact he's a self-serving, ruthless {{Sociopath}} once he no longer needs to for his plans.
* TheChessmaster: He spends most of the series manipulating both the Beat Riders and the rest of Yggdrasill for his own ends.
* ChewingTheScenery: He gets really expressive whenever he's talking about a topic he's interested in.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: Minato even says he'll betray anyone for power. Ryoma himself lampshades this, noting during an EnemyMine that he expects the heroes not to trust him as far as they can throw him, and makes no attempts to assure them he won't stab them in the back. He merely tells them that they ''need'' him, so they have no choice.
* CombatSadomasochist: He's laughing like a schoolboy when he finally gets hurt in combat.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: As the creator of the rider gears in this show filled with multiple riders, he is the polar opposite to [[Series/KamenRiderRyuki Shiro Kanzaki]]. He created the gears in order to fullfil his selfish agenda of grasping the Golden fruit by any means, while Kanzaki created his rider gears so he could save his sister from her impending death even at the cost of the riders' lives. Moreover, unlike Shiro, who uses Kamen Rider Odin as his representative Rider to fight on his behalf, Ryoma fights as a Kamen Rider to further his own agenda.
* CrazyPrepared: He built a secret entrance into Yggdrasill tower that only he knows about just in case something happened.
** [[spoiler:In #43, he has a personal remote control which allows him to short circuit the other Genesis Drivers and make them useless.]]
* TheCreon: PlayedWith. Ryoma is unique among ''Kamen Rider'' villains in that he doesn't necessarily seek power and was content (at first) to follow behind Takatora, viewing him as worthy of evolving with his technology. It's when he learns Takatora doesn't share his ideals that he decides to become an EvilOverlord himself instead.
* {{Cyborg}}: Temporarily, when he transplants his brain into Hakaider in the semi-canon Kikaider Reboot crossover. [[spoiler:More permanently when he reappears in ''Movie War Full Throttle'' as "Mecha Ryoma Sengoku".]]
** CyberneticsEatYourSoul: [[spoiler:He's surprised to find that Hakaider's directive to destroy begins overriding his personality.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: He does have a streak of sarcasm, regardless of the situation he is in.
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:Gives one to Mitsuzane in #42: In exchange for buying Ryoma time to extract the Fruit of Knowledge from Mai, Mitsuzane would take the Yomotsuheguri Lockseed in order to defeat or possibly kill Kouta. Mitsuzane accepts.]]
** In a sense, this is how he brought Yoko and Sid to his side, as flashbacks in ''Gaim Gaiden: Duke'' show.
* DemotedToDragon: When he [[spoiler:comes BackFromTheDead as "Mecha Ryoma Sengoku" in ''Movie War Full Throttle'']], he becomes TheDragon to the BigBad, [[spoiler:Megahex]]. Not that he's complaining about it, mind you.
* DidYouActuallyBelieve: [[spoiler:Ryoma pulls this on Micchy after Mai's death. When Micchy returns from his final battle with Kouta, he's stunned to find that Ryoma broke his promise and killed Mai in order to extract the Forbidden Fruit. An amused Ryoma outright [[LampshadedTrope lampshades]] how utterly stupid Micchy was to think Ryoma would keep his word.]]
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Yes, Ryoma, put your brain into a KillerRobot ForScience [[HoistByHisOwnPetard without checking the risks like you've always done before]]. [[SarcasmMode Nothing could possibly go wrong]].
* DirtyCoward: Even worse than Micchy. [[spoiler:His cowardice has proven even further after he abandons the rest of Yggdrasil employees, including Minato, to die in the wake of the Overlord Inves invasion. Then, he uses a kill switch to disable his opponent's Genesis Drivers so they cannot fight back against him]].
* DisneyVillainDeath: [[spoiler:Lord Baron punches him into a wall so hard it leaves a crater, ''while he was untransformed'', leading him to stumble about afterwards and fall off a ledge by tripping over it. If the damage to his internal organs didn't kill him during his fall, he certainly died when he hit the ground.]]
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Blames this as a result of his own inexperience in combat.
* TheDragon: Takatora's close confidante and loyal ally. At least, that's what Takatora thinks he is...
* DragonInChief: [[spoiler:He is the one that all of the Yggdrasill Riders bow down to while using Takatora as a figurehead.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: He's not at all interested in saving humanity like Takatora is and his own agenda. He wants Kouta's and Kaito's help in creating a new Driver that exceeds even the Genesis Drivers in power. Not his only agenda, either. [[spoiler:He also WANTS the Helheim Forest to invade the Earth, knowing that it would cause the deaths of thousands and not giving a damn.]]
* DrunkWithPower: Gives a speech that implies he was this long before becoming Duke.
* DullSurprise: Unless Mad Science or a CosmicHorrorStory is going on, Ryoma does a very bad job at pretending to care.
* {{Egopolis}}: Named the Sengoku Drivers after himself. But with a name like his, who could blame him?
** [[spoiler:During Duke's Armored Rider days as depicted in ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden - Duke'', what was Lemon Arms' transformation jingle? "IN-CRED-IBLE RYOU~MA!" ]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** Played straight in his Gaiden movie due to the fact that he wasn't a full-blown sociopath at that time, as he dislikes the fact that Kugai, and Black Bodhi by extension, use Lockseeds as not only a method to brainwash people, but as weapons of ''terrorism.''
** A rather downplayed example in the ''Kikaider'' crossover. After almost being consumed by Hakaider's killer programming he wonders who'd be monstrous enough to run an organization like DARK.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Doesn't understand why Takatora would want to save those who Ryoma views as lesser and views Takatora with contempt because of this. It goes both ways though as [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil Takatora doesn't realize Ryoma is plotting behind his back]] and even when Ryoma outs himself as a psychopath who doesn't care about anyone other than himself, Takatora can't shake viewing Ryoma as a friend.
* EvilCounterpart: To Baron. Both are based on European knights and named after aristocratic titles, and both are obsessed with pursuing something to the exclusion of everything else.
** To Ryugen as well: both are [[spoiler:former]] {{Psycho Sidekick}}s with UndyingLoyalty to another more powerful and charismatic Rider who turn against them when they're told something they didn't like.
* EvilFormerFriend: [[spoiler:Flashbacks from #27 show that Ryoma had once thought of Takatora as a man that could become the king of a post-Helheim infested world, showing genuine concern over Takatora getting injured and even designed the first Sengoku Driver as a sort of regalia for him. Of course, Takatora preferring TheNeedsOfTheMany over his own concerns, just wants Ryoma to just produce as many general Drivers as possible, which leads to a GlassesPull event that marked the beginning of Ryoma's condescending tone towards Takatora and general decision to leave him LockedOutOfTheLoop.]]
* EvilGenius: Yggdrasill's most important one. He invented the Sengoku Drivers, as well as the Genesis Drivers.
* EvilIsHammy: After Ryoma becomes a more active villain his DullSurprise is replaced with ridiculous amounts of ham.
* EvilLaugh: In #25 he tries to keep himself from doing this [[spoiler:when Sagara confirms that Helheim contains a "forbidden fruit" that grants great power.]]
* EvilIsPetty: Ryoma is irritated by the notion that something else might be able to make humanity evolve better than he can.
* EvilerThanThou: Pulls this on [[spoiler:Mitsuzane. After revealing he never intended to save Mai, he utterly mops the floor with Mitchy all while mocking him as being nothing more than a child.]]
* EvilVersusEvil: ''Duke Gaiden'' has Kugai Kudo as its BigBad, but Ryoma is little better than him.
* FalseFriend: He sees Takatora as a tool and nothing more. Even while the two were genuine colleagues, Ryoma mostly viewed Takatora as someone who could enable his experiments and usher in his ideal world. The closest he comes to caring for Takatora is when he compliments his strength during the events of ''Movie War Full Throttle'', and even then Ryoma spends most of the movie trying to kill him.
* FauxAffablyEvil: [[spoiler:#20 reveals his views are exactly the same as Kaito and he wants Helheim to invade. He maintains his politeness, but that revealed him as a complete villain.]]
* TheFightingNarcissist: In a sense. Ryoma definitely has an overinflated ego and does his fair share of fighting.
** [[spoiler:The "Incredible Ryoma" transformation call for Lemon Arms in ''Duke Gaiden'' pretty much says it all.]]
* FirstNameBasis: Addresses Takatora without any honorifics whatsoever, implying a certain level of closeness to the guy. [[spoiler:Shown in #27 to have been a former friend to Takatora.]]
* ForScience: Seems to have this as a motivation. Even with both the Sengoku Driver and Genesis Driver performing well, he's already seeking to design a new belt that further taps into Helheim's power.
** [[spoiler:He becomes the antagonist for the Kikaider crossover after ''removing his brain and putting it into Hakaider''.]]
* FourEyesZeroSoul: #27's flashbacks show he used to wear glasses. Ironically, it's after he stopped wearing them that he really went off the deep end.
* FreudianExcuse: ''Gaim Gaiden: Zangetsu'' reveals that [[spoiler:he was put through Zawame Child Care Facility as a child. While exacts aren't clear, those there were experimented on and brutally raised to be future Yggdrasill employees.]] While it [[DefiedTrope doesn't excuse anything]] it did, it goes a good ways to explain how he ended up as messed up as he did.
* TheGlassesComeOff: Surprisingly, it's only after he takes them off that he begins to be [[spoiler:the MadScientist we all know and love]].
* GodhoodSeeker: His ultimate motive. He either wants to become a god or create one, or both. Throughout the series, he seeks the godlike power of the Forbidden Fruit, and his ambition is to be the genius whose inventions drive forward the evolution of humanity. This is made more clear in [[spoiler:''Movie War Full Throttle'', when "Mecha Ryouma" talks about how elated he is to be one with the Megahex collective]], deeming it to be his achievement of godhood and fulfillment of his desire to become a being that surpasses humanity.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Ryoma's activities and creations cause him to serve as this in many ways. In fact, the ''only'' villains from the series he isn't this to are the villains from the two Movie Wars starring ''Gaim''[[note]]he has no connections to Bujin Gaim, and he's TheDragon to Megahex[[/note]], and all the villains associated with Badan in ''Kamen Rider Taisen''.
** He invented the Drivers, so any antagonistic Armored Rider or New Generation Rider in the story can ultimately be traced back to him (with the possible exception of Bujin Gaim, who comes from an AlternateUniverse).
** Ryoma directly created the Forbidden Apple Lockseed, which makes him this to its user, Armored Rider Iðunn, and to [[spoiler:Kugai Kudo, whose [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence Ascent To A Higher Plane Of Existence]] was caused by an experiment with the Forbidden Apple Lockseed gone horribly wrong]] despite the latter being the villain of his own ''Gaim Gaiden'' special. As such, he's indirectly responsible for the events of ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu'' and ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Duke'', despite being the [[VillainProtagonist protagonist]] of the latter. Yes, he somehow manages to be the GreaterScopeVillain to ''his own story''.
*** Since [[spoiler:Kugai Kudo]] is implied to be TheManBehindTheMan to Shura aka Armored Rider Black Baron, the BigBad of ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Knuckle'', Ryoma is this of that special by extension.
*** Aside from Ryoma building her Driver and the Lockseed she uses, Iðunn's backstory involves her being experimented on by Yggdrasill. [[spoiler:Ryoma took part in conducting experiments such as those when he was growing up in the same facility]], so his creation of the Forbidden Apple Lockseed may be related to Iðunn's FreudianExcuse.
** He's one to Yggdrasill, since he's the one who knew about Helheim first.
** By disabling Kaito's Genesis Driver and dominating him in battle when he was succumbing to his Helheim-infected wound, Ryoma indirectly brought about [[spoiler:Kaito's rise as "Lord Baron"]], the FinalBoss of the main story.
*** He also made Kaito's Genesis Driver in the first place, and without it filtering the Helheim toxins, Redyue's infection probably would've killed him before [[spoiler:he could build an immunity and become Lord Baron]].
** New Generation Rider Tyrant, the BigBad of ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Baron'', was Ryoma's UnwittingPawn, and received his Genesis Driver and Dragonfruit Energy Lockseed from Ryoma.
** Kohgane, the BigBad of TheMovie [[spoiler:and the finale]], was a SealedEvilInACan until Ryoma excavated it.
** He helped Kagiomi Shizumiya with his experiments that caused the destruction of the Torkia Republic, setting in motion the events of ''Zangetsu Stage -Gaim Gaiden''.
* HatedByAll: After he returns in #38, everyone hates him. Even [[AllLovingHero Kouta]] acts like he wants to throw him out a window. Ryoma is aware of this, and if anything [[{{Troll}} enjoys making them hate him more.]]
* HateSink: His overall actions has made him far worse than Sid (though probably because [[spoiler:Sid was already killed before he could demonstrate his own true villainy]]), since he almost put the world into utter destruction due his experiments and his ambitions of grasping the Forbidden Fruit. In fact, Ryoma seems to outright ''enjoy'' making everyone around him hate him as much as physically possible. WordOfGod stated that, in a story defined by GreyAndGreyMorality, Ryoma was designed to be the one character in ''Gaim'' to be truly evil.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: [[spoiler:Ryoma doesn't care about Project Ark and is only going along with it so he can take the resources for whatever it is he's ''really'' planning.]]
* ILied: He gleefully rubs it on Micchy's face that he only wanted to take the Golden Fruit out of Mai's body and shows no remorse for it.
* ItsAllAboutMe: As a narcissistic sociopath Ryoma is incapable of caring about anyone but himself or those he deems extensions of himself (like Takatora used to be). His advice to Kouta amounts to 'be a sociopath, then all your stress will be gone.'
** This is to the point that he has the regular Lemon Lockseed programmed to chant ''"Incredible Ryoma!"'' as its transformation jingle.
* ItAmusedMe:
** The ''real'' reason for all those Sengoku Driver voices is simply Ryoma entertaining himself.
** Ryoma spends his EnemyMine with the heroes trying to make them hate him as much as they possibly can for no real reason other than his own amusement.
* {{Jerkass}}: Though he may at first endear himself to the viewer through his quirks, Ryoma is without a doubt one of the most evil and cruel characters in the show.
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler:He kicks Micchy's ass after revealing his XanatosGambit, and after Micchy is already emotionally broken from Kouta and Mai's supposed deaths.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Thanks to Kaito in #43...until he comes BackFromTheDead in ''Film/KamenRiderXKamenRiderDriveAndGaimMovieWarFullThrottle''... [[ZigZaggedTrope and promptly dies again.]]]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Notice that whenever science isn't concerned Ryoma doesn't seem to emote properly, with his voice rather dull, and his facial expressions forced. And him apologizing about Ryoji's death was incredibly half-hearted. Outside of science, Ryoma just doesn't care.
* LargeHam: The fact that he put voices in the Sengoku Driver purely for fun is quite silly. And as a New Generation Rider, his Lemon Energy lockseed is the only one (again, not counting Kaito who uses the same lockseed) that has a transformation call. He is also the only one of the group who has his own transformation pose. Adding all of these up, Ryoma almost seems like a real-life Kamen Rider fanboy. Except, y'know, evil.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He made a career out of inventing things to surpass humanity and has a complex where he solely believes that only he can guide humanity to prosperity. [[spoiler:He gets defeated by someone who surpassed his humanity without his inventions. Adding salt to the wound, he only got to that position of surpassing his humanity because of Ryoma's inventions.]]
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: His reaction to the Kikaider crossover.
* LikeAGodToMe: He used to view Takatora as some kind of God Emperor of Mankind before being jilted.
* MadScientist: His AGodAmI MotiveRant in #15 establishes that "sanity" isn't something that Yggdrasill wants on your resume.
* TheManInFrontOfTheMan: [[spoiler:Introduced as Takatora's minion, but it gradually becomes apparent Ryoma has undercut Takatora's authority and kept him in a bubble so that Takatora is unknowingly going along with what Ryoma wants, instead of what's best for humanity.]]
* ManipulativeBastard: He navigates Yggdrasill's internal politics effortlessly and in every scene he appears in he's either lying to or tempting the person he's talking to. He'd make a good politician.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: His hand movements go hand-in-hand with his LargeHam tendencies.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Yggdrasill sure didn't hire him with ethical concerns involved. This is justified by the fact that Ryoma [[spoiler:grew up in the Zawame Child Care Facility, so Yggdrasill basically raised him to be an evil scientist for them]].
* MotorMouth: He could practically go a mile a minute in his speeches if he wills it, as seen in #39 when he speaks with Kouta a.k.a. the quote used to describe him being a sociopath.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Japanese historical figure [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakamoto_Ry%C5%8Dma Sakamoto Ryoma.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Tends to come really close to the people he is talking to, no matter if he is familiar with them or not. Like really uncomfortably close, to the point of making physical contact. This used to confirm his creepiness and lack of social skills, as close physical proximity and physical contact are definite no-go's in Japanese customs.
* NoSocialSkills: Ryoma can be charismatic and convincing when he wants to be, but he's such a slimy {{Jerkass}} that most of the time he doesn't bother.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: Takatora believes Ryoma, like him, is someone who ultimately wants to save humanity. In fact, Ryoma only wants to further his research and couldn't care less about saving others.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: He knows a secret way into Yggdrasill and holds the information over the heroes' heads.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:He is in shock when he witnesses Kouta's transformation into Kachidoki Arms as he does not recognize the Kachidoki Lockseed as one of his own, which is a stark deviation from his apathy or curious interest we are familiar with.]]
** In #42 [[spoiler:when disscussing how to deal with Kouta, he drops his smug flamboyance darkly admitting that Kouta is an "anomaly" that he can't defeat.]]
* {{Pride}}: Ryoma believes that only ''he'' can make something that truly surpasses humanity.
* PsychoSidekick: Flashbacks show that Ryoma used to be Takatora's friend before turning against him.
* PsychoSupporter: He was this to Takatora in the past while the two were first working on the Sengoku Drivers. Ryoma saw Takatora as an ideal candidate to become god-king with his technology , believing he shared his [[TheSocialDarwinist darwinistic]] beliefs and could bring them into reality. The moment he learned that Takatora actually wanted to save everyone, Ryoma immediately began plotting against him.
* PsychopathicManchild: Type C. Ryoma is a skilled fighter, leader, scientist, and schemer, but all of his actions are very childish. He treats his Kamen Rider powers like they're a toy, implanted his brain into Hakaider for fun, and many people note that he treats that the battle for the Forbidden Fruit like a game.
* SadClown: Ryoma is an '''''inversion''''' of this. One such example in #39, being TheSociopath that he is, his antics are most likely at the expense of Kouta and company. But [[DudeNotFunny none of them are buying his crap]]. [[spoiler:In #43, he snarks at a seemingly-depressed Mitsuzane after his PyrrhicVictory against Kouta, which is also the final straw to cause Micchy to break down at the mere sight of the dead remains of Mai.]]
* {{Sadist}}: [[spoiler:Kicks Micchy's ass while torturing him, and then letting out an EvilLaugh.]]
* SarcasticClapping: Claps to herald his return in #38.
* SlipknotPonytail: His hair comes undone while getting beaten down by [[spoiler:Lord Baron]].
* SocialDarwinist: He and Kaito have much more in common than just their Rider motifs.
* TheSociopath: He really does not care about anyone at all, and never hesitates or regrets his crimes. If he's to be believed, his upbeat personality is because he has ''no'' connections or compassion for anyone.
--> '''Ryoma''': Abandon your captured family. Give up on the friend who betrayed you. Feel no guilt for the murder of your friend. If you could find the will to be ruthless, then you'd be freed from all your stress in an instant.
* SoLongSuckers: [[spoiler:Seen leaving Yggdrasil Tower in an escape rocket just as it gets overgrown by Helheim in #32.]]
* SureLetsGoWithThat: In #17, Micchy makes up an excuse as to why he didn't [[ShootYourMate betray Kouta]], claiming that Ryoma didn't want Kouta to lose his belt yet. Whether or not he's right, his quick thinking impresses Ryoma enough that he's willing to back up Micchy's claim when Takatora comes calling.
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:He frequently schemes behind Takatora's back and ultimately leads a coup against him.]]
* ThisCannotBe: In #43 [[spoiler:he loses his shit when Lord Baron proves himself superior to the Genesis Driver.]]
* ThisIsUnforgivable: A rather twisted and myopic variant. [[spoiler:In his last moments Ryoma calls Kaito an unforgivable monster for abandoning his Driver and becoming an Overlord. The reason why this offends him so much, is that he thinks his own research is the only truth and according to him, his technology is the only way to surpass humanity. Kaito doing so without his technology is seen as the ultimate insult to his research.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: After [[spoiler:ditching Yggdrasill]], Ryoma doesn't need to pretend to be a good guy to Takatora anymore so he then frequently indulges in far more villainous behavior.
* TranquilFury: After regaining his composure upon seeing Kachidoki Arms in action, he enters this state.
* {{Transhuman}}: His ultimate goal is to either turn himself or a candidate of his choosing into a god-like figure.
* {{Troll}}: When in an EnemyMine with the heroes, he pretty much spends every moment doing every possible thing to make them hate him for no other reason than [[ItAmusedMe to amuse himself]].
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He thinks that the Beat Riders are just going to roll over and die after the public turns against them, boy is he wrong.
** There are actually times when he ''averts'' this. Whenever he transforms, he usually makes sure not to pick fights he knows that he can't win.
* VillainHasAPoint: [[spoiler:He may be an evil sociopath, but his BreakingSpeech towards Micchy after Mai's death is spot-on: he points out that Micchy is really nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is, was foolish to think that Ryoma would keep his promise to save Mai's life, and is ultimately just a stupid kid who was in way over his head when compared to the other villains. Granted, Micchy is hardly a hero at this point, but still...]]
* VillainousBreakdown: In #23 seeing Kachidoki arms and realizing that he [[BerserkButton doesn't know something]] he temporarily flips his shit.
** [[spoiler:And in #43, he completely loses it, after Mai's spirit emerges from the Forbidden Fruit and takes her leave. Then he's driven to suicide by Lord Baron making him realize that Helheim is superior to him.]]
* VillainousFriendship: He's apparently good enough friends with a fellow MadScientist at [[Series/{{Kikaider}} DARK]] to be able to borrow the Hakaider suit.
* VillainProtagonist: He's the main character of his own Gaiden story, ''Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Duke''.
* VillainRespect: Towards Takatora. Even if Ryoma views him as a fool for wanting to save everyone, he still can't help but respect Takatora's strength and admits to being impressed by him during the events of ''Movie War Full Throttle''. It's the closest he comes to actually caring about him.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: He thinks that either Kaito or Kouta could become the next Big Thing and be the one to use his technology to become a god.
* VisionaryVillain: He wants to transcend humanity.
* WeCanRuleTogether: He offers both Kouta and Kaito a chance to become a part of his god scheme. Both turn him down, knowing that he's nuts.
** He gives another offer to Kaito in #20. [[spoiler:It works this time.]]
%%* WeHaveReserves
* WithMyHandsTied: Subverted. He simply utilizes only one arm when battling Kouta in #19.
* WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide: [[spoiler:All but says that Yggdrasill is planning on killing six billion people.]]
* XanatosGambit: [[spoiler:Made one in #42 and profited in #43: Mitsuzane takes the Yomotsuheguri Lockseed and fights Kouta; Ryoma has time to get the Fruit of Knowledge out of Mai and therefore gains the power to become a god. He's not concerned about Mai's being, so she can die if it was necessary to get the Fruit, and if either Kouta or Mitsuzane came to stop him, Ryoma would already have the Fruit of Knowledge by then and could crush them into the dirt. Too bad the Fruit had assimilated Mai's mind by then and disappears to try and change fate.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness:
** [[spoiler:After getting Kaito to join his side, he gives Sid the okay to kill Kouta, having no more use for him.]]
** [[spoiler:He plans to dispose of Takatora once he's further enough in his plans that he doesn't need him anymore. He eventually follows through in #28 after Takatora learns about the Overlords.]]

!!!Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Duke
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krga_dukelemonenergy_8.png]]
[[caption-width-right:210:''Soda! Lemon Energy Arms! Fight, Power! Fight, Power! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fi-Fi-Fi-Fi-Fight!'']]
[[caption-width-right:210:[[labelnote:Click here to see Duke Dragon Energy Arms]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duke_dragon.png[[/labelnote]]]]
[[caption-width-right:210:''SODA! Dragon Energy Arms! (Fast techno music)'']]
* AceCustom: His Rider powers definitely seem to act this way, having the strongest punches and kicks than any other rider, including the ones who use Genesis Drivers. He is also the only one whose favored lockseed (Lemon Energy) has a transformation call in place of the usual post-transformation techno music (which carried over to Kaito when ''he'' received his own Genesis Driver and Lemon Energy lock seed). Confirmed in #39 and 40, where he shows off some extra tricks he's built in.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: [[spoiler:His Rider suit visor allows him to scan and process data in a moment's notice, allowing him to figure out how much of his power he has to use to beat his foes while learning about them at the same time.]]
* BadassCape: In both Lemon Energy and Dragon Energy Arms. [[spoiler:Absent from Lemon Arms.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers one to both Gaim and Baron in #19.
** [[spoiler:Lord Baron returns the favor in #43.]]
* EnergyBow: The Sonic Arrow, a bow and arrow compatiable with energy lockseeds he designed himself.
* InvisibilityCloak: In #40, he turns himself invisible to sneak away.
* MesACrowd: In #39, he projects holograms to distract his enemies.
* MightyGlacier: Very powerful, but notably slower than the other New Generation Riders.
* RoyalRapier: [[spoiler:Duke's weapon during his time as an Armored Rider.]]
* StrongButUnskilled: At least according to him, he doesn't fully get how to completely rein in the power of his armor yet.

[[folder:Sid/Kamen Rider Sigurd]]
!!Sid/New Generation Rider Sigurd
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Kazuki Namioka (live), Tatsuya Kaneko (suit)
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lock_dealer_sid.png]]

An agent of Yggdrasill who masqueraded as a self-employed "Lock Dealer" and sold Lock Seeds to the kids of Zawame City. His true purpose was to observe the effects of the experimental Sengoku Drivers on their users and ensure that things did not get out of hand. While a subordinate to Takatora, he is a slimy career-chaser who will gladly make back-alley deals if it secures him more power and influence in Yggdrasill.

He later receives one of the next-generation Genesis Drivers, using the Cherry Energy Lock Seed to transform into New Generation Rider Sigurd.

''Duke Gaiden'' reveals him to have been a two-bit drug dealer before encountering Sengoku. Sid's determination to claw his way to the top of the food chain impressed the scientist, who offered him a place in his inner circle.

!!!Tropes that apply to him in general
* TheAggressiveDrugDealer: "Aggressive" isn't quite the right word for Sid, but he looks and acts like a drug dealer and has sacrificed profit in the name of escalating the Inves Game more than once.
** ''Duke Gaiden'' revealed that he actually was a completely straightforward example.
* AntiRoleModel: What he essentially is. He goes on and on about how being an adult is all about making tough decisions, but as Kouta points out, about 90% of what he says is just an excuse to be a dick.
* ArchEnemy: The only person Kouta openly hates and shows no regret about hurting.
* BadassLongcoat: He wears a long jacket and is definitely one of the more dangerous characters of the show for a while.
* BigBadWannabe: While he is a dangerous, manipulative threat and the New Gen Rider most actively trying to kill the heroes with or without orders, he doesn't measure up to Ryoma and Takatora. [[spoiler:He makes an effort to break off and grab the Forbidden Fruit for himself, even teaming up with Micchy, but ultimately doesn't last two-to-[[BizarroEpisode three]] episodes before being killed off by Rosyuo.]]
* BigEater: Subtle, but he's always snacking on something. The only times he isn't is when he's meeting with Takatora.
* BeardOfEvil: Has a distinct stubble on his face.
* BeneathTheMask: While he's a bit of a jerk, he seemed fairly harmless and while the Beat Riders didn't like him very much, he still seemed willing to help them... but when he's enraged, he tends to fly into a psychotic rage and openly enjoys the heinous actions he commits.
* BerserkButton: Kouta makes him angry in a way no one else can.
* BreakThemByTalking: After becoming Sigurd, almost all of his dialogue with Kouta revolves around trying to verbally crush him on a moral and ideological level.
* TheBrute: He has a bulky Rider form, and is the New Generation Rider who most often gets sent out to do their dirty work.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Evil version. All of the Beat Riders distrust him, but he's just too good at getting good Lock Seeds to just ignore.
* CaptainErsatz: [[Series/{{Firefly}} It's the Badger!]]
* CharacterTics: Holding and messing around with his S Lock Seed.
** Before and after transforming, he tips his bowler hat, and in battle, he has the tendency to hold onto his head like his hat is there.
* ChekhovsGun: Remember that S Lockseed he always carries around? [[spoiler:He can use it to control the Suika Arms armor.]]
* ChildHater: He even admits to hating children.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler:Backstabs Takatora and Ryoma in the same episode.]]
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Picked out which Beat Riders were to get Sengoku Drivers, generally looking for ones who would escalate the conflict.
* CombatPragmatist: Best shown when he shot the Banana Lockseed out of Kaito's hands ''before'' he could transform.
* TheCorrupter: He takes great joy in bringing out Mitsuzane's dark side.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:Rosyuo uses telekinesis to trap and crush him between two cliff faces. Perhaps one of the most violent deaths ever seen in the Kamen Rider Series.]]
* DarkIsEvil: Clad in black and one of the most slimy characters in the show.
* DeadHatShot: [[spoiler:After Rosyuo crushes him into paste, Sid's derby can be seen rolling to a halt next to Rosyuo. But then, considering Sid's fate, that would be [[CruelAndUnusualDeath all that was left of him]]]].
* DeathByIrony:
** Non-Lethal example. While Sid captured Kouta with the Kurokage troopers, it's the DJ's "carelessly leaving behind" his keycard that allows Kouta to escape. Recall how early on, Sid himself "carelessly left behind" a Sengoku Driver for Mitsuzane.
** In that same episode, Kouta and Kaito take pleasure in [[spoiler:knocking Sid on his rear [[HoistByHisOwnPetard with the very same equipment he gave them.]]]]
** And again in #24. [[spoiler:Kouta blitzed him using Jimber Cherry Arms. Which come from the Cherry Energy Lockseed.]]
** [[spoiler:Becomes truly lethal in #31 [[LaserGuidedKarma when the second Rider to die in the series turns out to be the one who killed the first.]]]]
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:Despite Rosyuo's {{Telekinesis}} [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking staggering him to the point where he can barely even move, atomizing his Lockseed and Driver, and blowing off his hat,]] he still refuses to back down.]]
* TheDragon: Ryoma's right-hand man and confidante regarding his true plans.
* EasilyForgiven: After Takatora finds out Sid gave his little brother a Sengoku Driver, his initial reaction is to grab him by the collar in a moment of barely suppressed rage. While Sid brings up a good point in his defense, Takatora's line of "I expect you to follow through this time" comes off as nothing but naïve. He also goes unpunished for trying to use lethal force against Gaim and Baron, despite Takatora's insistence on protecting them.
* EnergyBow: The Sonic Arrow.
* EnigmaticEmpoweringEntity: Distributes the Sengoku Drivers and bikes to the various Beat Rider teams, often even for free. The Riders didn't know that it was for the purpose of giving Yggdrasill new lab rats.
* EnigmaticMinion: While he's working for Yggdrasill, he kept the fact that he gave Mitsuzane a Driver a secret from his brother for an unknown reason. More than that, he gave Takatora every opportunity to find out, but was amused that he hadn't taken the bait.
* EvilCounterpart: To Bravo (well, Evil-er Counterpart). Unlike the other Armored/New Generation Rider comparisons, they don't share an armor theme, but they both enjoy antagonizing others and especially picking on children. [[spoiler:However, Sid ultimately turns out to be completely irredeemable, while Oren starts working with the heroes once he's appraised of the whole situation. Moreover, Sid never loses his condescending nature towards the "kids" and remained entirely convinced of his adult superiority...and yet he died acting and screaming like a spoiled brat. In contrast, Oren's bullying turns out to be misguided, as his desire to better the kids was genuine but he was too dismissive of them. Once he realizes that, as well as learning the kids were far more on the ball than he was, he develops more into a proper adult who guides the younger generation, most notably with his role in Hideyasu's character development.]]
** In terms of armor theme (as well as the role in their respective groups), he ''would'' be one to Gridon - both having viking motifs and are the most manipulative member of their respective groups. Unlike Sid, however, Gridon never becomes anything more than a JokeCharacter. [[FridgeBrilliance Although considering]] [[TheMentor the relationship]] Bravo eventually has to Gridon, it makes sense that Sid is one to Bravo instead of Gridon.
* EvilLaugh: He's less prone to laughing than Ryoma, but he still does it from time to time.
* EvilWearsBlack: Bonus points for being one of the most evil people on the show.
* EvilerThanThou: At first it seems like he'll go this way in comparison to Ryoma Sengoku, since while Ryoma may be higher up in Yggdrasil, Sid is much more despicable, not to mention that Ryoma Sengoku is polite ([[FauxAffablyEvil at first, anyways]]), not to mention that unlike Ryoma, Sid gets a kick out of his more vile actions. [[spoiler:However, it turns out to be a subversion - while he probably would have been more vile than Ryoma if he had stuck around, he gets killed off before he gets a chance to]].
* ForTheEvulz: Seems to be the reason he likes screwing with people's heads and seemed to actually get a kick out of killing Hase and then smugly rubbing it in Kouta's face.
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:Implied. Part of his motive for getting the Fruit for Knowledge was so that no one would look down on him again. There was also his attitude towards Kouta and Kaito about how adults are the responsible ones.]]
* FriendInTheBlackMarket: To anyone willing to pay for his services in the first arc. He closes up shop afterwards, partly because Kouta called him out on just using the Beat Riders as lab rats and partly because Yggdrasill was ending that project anyway.
* GoryDiscretionShot: [[spoiler:When Rosyuo crushes him the camera tilts upward swiftly to spare the viewer from seeing his gruesome demise.]]
* HateSink: Sid is such a slimy, smug, soulless, scumbag that AllLovingHero Kouta openly hates him, telling the audience to direct their hate onto Sid. His stint however was outmatched by the likes of Ryoma, who outlived him for many episodes, and Redyue, who is more viler than the former two.
* HiddenBadass: No one expected him to be a real threat when the show started. Boy did he prove everyone wrong.
* HopeCrusher: Sid has made it his personal goal to crush Kouta's ideals.
* HopeIsScary: He tells Kouta he opposes him because he's giving people false hope that will only be crushed. Given it's Sid, however, it's not clear how much he believes it and how much is just an excuse to mess with Kouta's head.
* {{Irony}}:
** Every attempt Sid has made to crush Kouta's resolve has somehow strengthened it.
** Sid originally let Kouta live because it was fun to make him squirm while Takatora wanted to take more decisive action. Nowadays Sid is the biggest advocate for killing Kouta while Takatora lets him go out of sympathy.
** Originally, Sid distributes the Sengoku Drivers to Beat Rider teams because of how easily manipulable and accepting they are of power given to them for free, and he believes that 'adults' like Sid would question this. [[spoiler:This comes to bite him in the ass in #31, as he was easily tempted by the forbidden fruit offered by Redyue, getting him killed. Micchy knows that it is a trap and decides not to follow him.]]
** Sid comments that Micchy [[spoiler:watching his brother supposedly die without trying to stop his killers]] was rather cold of him. It's that same coldness that has Micchy [[spoiler:not inform Sid of the trap and just have him march to his death]]. To add further irony, his brother gets to [[spoiler:watch ''Sid'' die without trying to stop his killer]].
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: [[spoiler:He pretty much screams this right before he gets squished Rosyuo, and it's his main reason for gunning for the fruit, combined with a bit of TheDogBitesBack]]. ''Gaim Gaiden: Duke'' confirms this to be the case, and how Ryoma found him and brought him into his fold.
* ItsPersonal: For some reason, he hates Kouta on a personal level, dropping his SlimeBall persona when fighting him in favor for a more bitter, jaded outlook on life while trying to break him.
* {{Jerkass}}: To the point where AllLovingHero Kouta hates him.
* JokeCharacter: Can be seen as one amongst the New Generation Riders, much like his Beat Rider Counterpart Gridon - he lacks the firepower that Duke has, Zangetsu Shin overall is much more versatile, and while he has higher stats than Marika, her combat prowess easily outmatches his own. It's also worth noting that of all the New Generation Riders to lose to Kouta, he's the only one who fights Kouta with the intent to kill and still loses - amusingly enough, it's to the Jimber version of ''his own energy lockseed''[[note]]Although Duke loses to Kouta when the latter is using the Jimber version of his energy lockseed against him, Ryoma was not fighting with the intent to kill, more out of curiousity. Kouta never defeats Takatora when the latter is Zangetsu Shin, and he never fights Marika again after he gets a Peach Energy lockseed[[/note]].
* KidsVersusAdults: He often tends to talk about how adults are the master authority towards kids and how they should respect their elders. Both Kouta and Kaito respond by telling him where he can shove his agism.
* KnightOfCerebus: Responsible for the show's first Rider death, which the lead writer calls [[NothingIsTheSameAnymore the turning point of the story]], and says the one line that confirms that this is a {{deconstruction}} of Kamen Rider.
* MeaningfulName: His name is a sound-a-like to ''seed'', as in Lock''seed''.
* ManipulativeBastard: He just ''loves'' to find out your hopes and dreams, then twists and corrupts them for his own amusement.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** As noted above in {{Irony}}, every attempt Sid has made to crush Kouta's HeroicResolve just makes him bounce back stronger than before.
** {{Inverted}} in #21. [[spoiler:Him telling Kouta about the Scalar Weapon actually had Kouta team up with Yggdrasil to prevent Inves from coming out of a public crack.]] But played straight again in #23 as [[spoiler:Kouta learns to go for the Scalar system while StormingTheCastle and trashes it completely.]]
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: While Sid was never harmless, all he seemed like was your typical corporate slime ball who would fold after the Riders got tired of his BS...But then he's revealed to be New Generation Rider Sigurd, who proves this assumption to be very wrong when he kills Ryoji.
* ObviouslyEvil: The slimy looking guy who pushes Lockseeds like a [[TheAggressiveDrugDealer drug dealer]] to teenagers and young adults is evil? [[SarcasmMode Noooooo.]]
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Claims that money is his only motivation. This is a very obvious lie.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: He's rather short, but very tough.
* PunnyName: Sid <-> Seed. Also '''Si'''gur'''d'''.
* PsychoForHire: Unlike the other Yggdrasil employees, who either view their actions as NecessarilyEvil or a means to an end, he ''enjoys'' his heinous actions, including killing Hase and trying to kill Kouta. While he talks a heroic talk, it seems to be only an excuse to perform heinous acts because he ''wants'' to.
* ShootTheDog: He describes his execution of Hase as this, though primarily as a way to mock Kouta - he doesn't seem to be the type who's concerned about "morality".
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: He constantly taunts Kouta that his ideals are immature and childish.
* SlimeBall: The man ''oozes'' corporate slime.
* SmugSmiler: He's almost never seen without a sleazy grin on his face.
* TheSociopath: Is charismatic enough to have easily convinced the Beat Riders to take his wares, takes a sadistic pleasure in screwing with people's heads, and has [[LackOfEmpathy zero empathy for anyone else]]. He also escalates the Inves Game seemingly on a whim without orders from his superiors more than once. He also shows a violent, homicidal streak when he's actually enraged, to the point of [[spoiler:outright trying to kill Baron and Gaim]] in anger when they get the slip on him. He also seemed to ''enjoy'' killing Hase as opposed to his comrades, who either viewed it as NecessarilyEvil or were indifferent.
* SoftSpokenSadist: While he has charisma and speaks calmly most of the time, the guy is notably the only Yggdrasil member to outright ''enjoy'' his heinous actions instead of seeing them as NecessarilyEvil or a means to an end.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The TV-Nihon fansub initially Romanized his name as "Cid" before switching to the more accepted "Sid."
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:He not only helps Ryoma undermine Takatora, but once that's out of the way, he backstabs ''Ryoma'' too.]]
* SuicidalOverconfidence: He dips into this trope from time to time, such as thinking that he has what it takes [[spoiler:to kill Takatora or defeat Rosyuo.]]
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: His solution to deal with Kachidoki Arms is ''three'' Suika Arms. [[spoiler:It doesn't work.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Micchy accompanies him when he goes to fight the Overlords, but only so he can use Sid to see their power for himself, resulting in Sid receiving a very painful death at Rosyuo's hands.]]
* VillainHasAPoint: In the end, he appears to be right about killing Ryoji being the only option, and that if he was allowed to run free he could have hurt a lot more innocent people. Kouta admits that he may have a point, but argues that using justice as a rationalization for killing is wrong.
* VillainousBreakdown: A very minor one after Kouta and Kaito give him the slip in #15.
** A much bigger one after [[spoiler:Kouta beats him and steals his Lockseed in #21. Given how Sid was completely confident that he'd kill Kouta, the shock on his face after Kouta managed to decisively beat him is priceless]].
* WouldHurtAChild: Despite viewing the Beat Riders as kids, and them being ''much'' younger than him, he has no problem beating the tar out of them and trying to outright ''kill'' them.
* YoureInsane: Kouta calls him this [[spoiler:after he reveals Yggdrasill's backup plan to nuke the city if the situation goes completely FUBAR]].

!!!Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Sigurd
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_sigurd.png]]
[[caption-width-right:210:''Soda! Cherry Energy Arms! (Techno beat music)'']]
* HeroKiller: Sid kills off Hase during his first bout as Sigurd.
* HomingProjectile: His arrows can do this.
* {{Irony}}[=/=]LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler:The murderer of the first Rider fatality is the second Rider to die.]]
* MasterOfNone: Sigurd is supposed to be the [[JackOfAllStats the most balanced]] among the New Generation Riders but Sid's lack of fighting experience makes him a weak fighter instead.
* MeaningfulName: Sigurd relates to a heroic monster hunter, hence why his speeches regarding hunting down monsters consider him to be heroic.
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* RedIsViolent: He ''insists'' he's heroic, but he's far from it thanks to his violent tendencies.
* UnskilledButStrong: Sid's fight with Kouta in #21 shows that he's not that skilled of a fighter when he doesn't have the sheer power of being a New Generation Rider to rely on. When he faces a foe of equal power but superior fighting skill, like Kouta in his Jimber Arms or Kaito after getting a Genesis Driver of his own, Sid's shown to be badly outmatched. He seems unable to accept this fact, [[spoiler:ultimately leading to him being completely slaughtered at the hands of Rosyuo, and his death]].

[[folder:Yoko Minato/Kamen Rider Marika]]
!!Yoko Minato/New Generation Rider Marika[[note]]derived from "malika"; Arabic for "queen"[[/note]]
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Minami Tsukui (live & suit), Satoshi Fujita (suit understudy)
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoko_minato.png]]

An employee of Yggdrasill Corporation working under Ryoma Sengoku. She acts as his personal bodyguard and assistant in the company using her incredible martial arts.

Using the Peach Energy Lock Seed and the Genesis Driver, she can transform into New Generation Rider Marika.

A flashback in ''Duke Gaiden'' reveals her to have been a former corporate spy whom Sengoku caught attempting to steal his research. His instant and astute analysis of her desperate need to cling to someone else won her over to his side.

!!!Tropes that apply to her in general
* AdmiringTheAbomination: [[spoiler:She finds Kaito even worthier of being King after he becomes an Overlord.]]
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: While flirting with Kaito, she admits that she has a thing for powerful people.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: While Kaito respects her and sympathises heavily with her ambitions, his response when she implicitly asks him if he would've wanted her instead of Mai [[spoiler:if she were the one with the Golden Fruit rather than Mai]] is to kindly but awkwardly tell her that she's really something special, but his desire for Mai [[spoiler:who has become one with the Golden Fruit]] is on an entirely different level.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove[=/=]DyingDeclarationOfLove: While not as direct as an "I love you", she asks Kaito if he would've sought her with the same fervor that he pursues Mai [[spoiler:if she were the one with the Golden Fruit instead of Mai]], which is all but outright saying that she wants his love.
* AntiHero[=/=]AntiVillain: Depending on what side of the aisle she's on. Her equally gray morality makes her very similar to Kaito.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Gives one to Kouta in #33. [[spoiler:Also doubles as a WhamLine.]]
-->'''Yoko:''' What are you going to do with your power?
-->'''Kouta:''' Protect everyone.
-->'''Yoko:''' And once they're safe?
* AscendedExtra: In a sense. After splitting from Ryoma, Minato begins to get a lot more lines and much more characterization.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Always clad in a fancy suit and one of the most skilled combatants in the series, even when not transformed.
* BattleButler: Ryoma's assistant and bodyguard. She fulfills this same role when she joins Kaito.
* BigDamnHeroes[=/=]VillainousRescue: Shows up just in time to save Baron from [[spoiler:Demushu]] in #24.
* BodyGuardBabes: She guards Ryoma both in and out of their Rider transformations.
* BoyishShortHair: Her hair is cut short, and she's tough as nails.
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:Used to look up to Ryoma until he abandoned her when the Overlords invaded.]]
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Both Yoko and [[Series/KamenRiderRyuki Miho Kirishima]] are the only female Riders of their series. Yoko became a Rider during the second arc, while Miho was a movie exclusive Rider. Yoko started off as an antagonist opposing the heroes and was loyal to Ryoma before she joins the heroes during the climax of the third arc and became more attached to the secondary rider, Kaito, while Miho was a sympathetic AntiHero who fights to get her sister back and a gold digger who seduce men for money before became attached to the main rider, Shinji.
* DarkActionGirl: Oh yes. When her establishing moment is kicking Kouta and Kaito's asses ''outside'' of Rider form..
** Plus, her actress, Minami Tsukui, not only does her own stunts out of costume, ''she's also the main suit actor for Malika.'' The last time any Rider actor performed their suit stunts was in the Showa era.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: In their first meeting, Ryoma sums her up as this, convincing her to side with him. Her search for a worthy, ambitious person to help achieve power [[spoiler:and rule the world as a god]] leads her to Kaito.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: [[spoiler:She died in Kaito's.]]
* DistaffCounterpart: To Ryugen. Both are are modeled on Eastern warriors, Ryugen being Chinese and Marika being Arabian. In terms of personality, they're both morally questionable and started out intensely loyal to another Rider until that loyalty faded.
** [[spoiler:As Yoko, she also a counterpart to Kaito Kumon due to her being a SocialDarwinist like him.]]
* TheDragon: To Ryoma, until [[spoiler:the Overlords invaded and he lost her respect by saying ScrewThisImOuttaHere]]
** [[spoiler:Becomes one to Kaito over time, staying as such even after he becomes Lord Baron.]]
** DragonWithAnAgenda: When noted by Ryoma that she willingly holds herself back while fighting, he theorizes that she has a plan of her own. Not that he cares, it would only make things more interesting for him. And to further this theory of his, she does nothing to deny it and just gives a smug smile as a response.
* EnigmaticMinion: To Ryoma, she starts off as his SatelliteCharacter but her interactions with Kaito show that she has other plans.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Despises cowardice and betrayal.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: A bit. She has trouble understanding why Oren has become a better person and is using his fighting skills for free.
** Sengoku calling her out on this is part of how he earned her services, according to ''Duke Gaiden''. It also pretty much explains her gravitating towards Kaito. In essence, she is a peculiar case of DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Non-literal, but "Marika" is a derivative of Queen. And she can [[IncrediblyLamePun "royally" hand you your ass.]]
* GoodCostumeSwitch: Starts wearing white suits instead of black after joining the Rider Alliance, [[spoiler:although this doesn't last]].
* HazyFeelTurn: After Ryoma abandons Yggdrasill, she joins Kaito at his side. It remains to be seen if this applies to her morally, though. [[spoiler:She returns to Heel status after the Overlords and Ryoma are dealt with.]]
** [[spoiler:Becomes full-on face during the events of ''Kamen Sentai Go-Rider'' via AdaptationalHeroism.]]
* HiddenDepths: Ryoma hints that she has the same level of hidden potential as Kouta. On top of that, she has yet to show her full power in combat. Even holding back, Kouta thinks she may be stronger than Sid.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: Or the most ambitious, in her case.
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Towards Ryoma [[spoiler:until she was abandoned by him during the wake of Helheim invasion]].
* KickChick: A signature for Minami Tsukui and as such, Yoko incorporates a lot of kicks into her fights.
* KilledOffForReal:
** [[spoiler:Died protecting Kaito from an ambush from Zack's ambush]].
** [[spoiler:Invoked again during the Go-Rider mini-series, although this time it's of her own free will.]]
* MagicSkirt: Defied in ''Gaim Gaiden: Duke'' when she scales an apartment building for an investigation and she's shown wearing pants.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Dumps Yggdrasill after Ryoma leaves her to die against Demushu.
* MsFanservice: Due to her kicking ass and climbing stairs in a skirt.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: She ''really'' doesn't seem to understand the concept.
* PetTheDog: In #24 she saves Kaito even though she didn't have anything to gain from it.
** Then when Ryoma is about to give Kaito the axe she convinces him to give Kaito a second chance and give him a Genesis Driver along with it.
** [[spoiler:After Kaito becomes Lord Baron, Yoko is horrified at his monstrosity and shows genuine concern on his well-being.]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:Gives one to Mitsuzane in #34, saying that somebody as childish as him is not fit to be a king and that he has no place he belongs to if all he does is betray and lie.]]
* SatelliteCharacter: There really isn't much to Yoko unless she's with Ryoma or Kaito. Instead of acting independently, she's seen pulling bodyguard duty for people she considers worthy of [[spoiler:obtaining the Forbidden Fruit]]. ...And that's really her sole motivation.
* SayMyName: [[spoiler:'''KAITO!''']]
* SocialDarwinist: The reason she's drawn to Kaito's service is due to sharing similar ideals to him.
* StrangerBehindTheMask: Kind of. Duke and Sigurd's human identities were seen before their appearance, but Yoko was a new character.
* ShipTease: She's icy most of the time, but she does show affection towards Kaito.
* TakeOverTheWorld: [[spoiler:Once Kaito becomes "Lord Baron", the two of them start plotting for world domination, and it's implied that conquest like this is something she's had on her mind the whole time.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: Of the new heroic Rider alliance, she cares less about saving the city and more about seeing what happens when someone gets the Forbidden Fruit.
* UndyingLoyalty: She appears to be completely devoted to Professor Ryoma, at least on the surface.
** After Ryoma bails in #32, this loyalty shifts to Kaito, whom she admittedly likes a lot more.
** If anything, she's more devoted to who she thinks will create or be a god, which Kaito comes to fit the bill more than Ryoma. However, her words [[spoiler:as dies in Kaito's arms]] imply that she had developed a genuine attachment to him and would follow him to the bitter end.
* UnholyMatrimony: Likely what she was hoping for between her and Kaito.
* TheVamp: Her advances on Kaito at first could've been an attempt at manipulation.
* VillainousFriendship:
** Type III with Ryoma. She respects him and admires his vision. Ryoma doesn't give a crap and dumps her the second things go south.
** Her relationship with Kaito becomes one when he lands back on the "Heel" side of the HeelFaceRevolvingDoor. That said, judging from her facial expressions, while she doesn't seem to regret her side, she's clearly worried the way events in the final arc are sliding out of control.
* VillainRespect: In #28, she admits that she respects Takatora's abilities as a warrior and calls out Sid for underestimating him.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: She finds Kaito's endless search for more power exciting. Ryoma finds this investment to be especially strange considering her general disinterest in others.

!!!Tropes exclusive to her as Kamen Rider Marika

[[caption-width-right:210:''Soda! Peach Energy Arms! (Arabian techno music)'']]
* BreastPlate: It's not prominent, but it's there.
* FragileSpeedster: The most nimble New Generation Rider.
** GlassCannon: Marika's powerful, but her durability suffers because of it.
* PinkMeansFeminine: The only female Rider, naturally, gets pink armor.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female Rider of eleven. [[spoiler:She’s also the only female among the Kamen Sentai Gorider]].
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:For none other than Kaito.]]
%%* EnergyBow: The Sonic Arrow.

!!DJ Sagara
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Tomomitsu Yamaguchi
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dj_sagara.png]]

The host of "Beat Riders Hotline", an internet radio station with its finger on the pulse of Zawame City's urban scene. He reports on the activities of the Beat Riders street gangs and runs popularity polls to determine who the top dog is. He is actually an agent of Yggdrasill Corporation who uses his web channel to distribute propaganda and galvanize the conflict between the Beat Riders. But there's more to him then even that, as his motivations and other things about him have been called into question; all we know for sure is that he put himself in a position to observe the Helheim conflict.

[[spoiler:Near the end of the series he's shown to be the avatar of Helheim itself. For Helheim Forest specific tropes, see [[Characters/KamenRiderGaimHelheimForest here]]]]
----

* AboveGoodAndEvil[=/=]BlueAndOrangeMorality: His ultimate goal is to see the outcome of the Helheim conflict. [[spoiler:More precisely, his entire purpose is to make things evolve into a new level. He says destruction is just the tool he uses.]]
* AffablyEvil: Even if he is evil, the DJ is a very CoolOldGuy and an excellent judge of character, and all around good company.
* AlmightyJanitor: He's a mild-mannered DJ [[spoiler:who is ultimately revealed to be the avatar of Helheim itself.]]
* AnimalMotifs: [[spoiler:A snake.]]
* TheAntiNihilist: His philosophy boils down to [[spoiler:"Odds are Helheim's gonna destroy your world, but I'd really prefer to see you stop it."]]
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Knows the Priestess, can invade dreams, and apparently created the [[MidSeasonUpgrade Kachidoki Lockseed]] from an actual orange just by holding it. Eventually he's revealed to be much more than he appears.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification[=/=]HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:#42 finally gives us an answer to what Sagara is: He's Helheim itself.]]
* AntiVillain: Unlike his co-workers, he is shown to respect the Beat Riders and even warned Takatora not to underestimate them. A later episode also shows him helping Kouta by springing him from an Yggdrasill holding cell and giving him a Lemon Energy Lock Seed with an adapter piece to use it with the Sengoku Driver. [[spoiler:Ultimately, he simply wants to see what happens.]]
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Gives one to [[spoiler:Rosyuo.]]
--> '''DJ Sagara''': You'll let seven billion people die just to save the one woman you love?
* AsTheGoodBookSays: [[spoiler:He quotes God in the Book of Genesis (''"Be fruitful, then multiply, and fill the earth!"'') to Kouta and Mai before they depart for their new world, even lampshading that it's not really his place as a snake.]]
* AuthorAppeal: Anyone who has seen Urobuchi's [[Literature/FateZero previous]] [[Anime/PsychoPass works]] should know he just loves Nietzschean philosophy and Sagara loves to go on filibusters filled to the brim Nietzschean undertones.
* BeneathSuspicion: [[SarcasmMode Yeah, like the DJ would be able to screw everybody over.]] [[spoiler:Even after he's found out, the New Generation Riders have trouble wrapping their heads around how thoroughly they've been played.]]
* BiblicalBadGuy: [[spoiler:He heavily implies that he was the snake that tempted Adam and Eve to eat the Forbidden Fruit.]]
* BigBad: Or BigGood. Well, he's a Big ''Something''. There's evidence for both sides of the alignment: [[spoiler:on the Good side he's routinely given Kouta powerups and convinced Rosyuo to give humanity a fair chance. On the Bad side, he works with the various villains (both Yggdrasill and the Overlords) and has stated that he's helping Kouta in order to advance his own agenda.]] Ultimately, he proves to be [[spoiler:Bad, in the form of a GreaterScopeVillain; since as Helheim, he's the cause of all the problems everyone faces but never the direct threat. That said, his true alignment is ChaoticNeutral; he doesn't care for good or evil, he just wants to see ''change''.]]
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To [[Series/KamenRiderWizard Wiseman]]/[[spoiler:Sou Fueki aka the White Wizard]] [[spoiler: Both are mysterious individuals who created the MonsterOfTheWeek of their stories while having another persona who directly empowers TheHero for their own ends; Wiseman did it as the White Wizard in order to make Haruto strong enough to protect Koyomi until the second Sabbath while DJ Sagara, who is really the avatar of the Hellheim Forest, went out of his way to help Kouto so he can grow as a person and fighter. Wisemen did all that he did to revive his daughter no matter the cost, Sagara invade the Earth in order to test humanity and see them evolve from the situation he put them in.]]
* CoolOldGuy: A rare (maybe) evil example. For a propaganda officer, DJ Sagara is one cool dude.
* CrazyPrepared: [[spoiler:When Redyue asks him why he's disguised as a human, he states "Unpreparedness is one's greatest enemy."]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: [[spoiler:When offering Kouta the power of Kiwami Arms he becomes a much darker character. He wears his snake skin suit instead of his DJ costume, the shadows seem to cover him, he loses his hamminess and speaks in a much deeper voice, all the while admitting that he's offering a very dangerous Faustian bargain and dropping his previous benevolence.]]
%%* DarkMessiah
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Just ''why'' is he helping out the Beat Riders when the rest of Yggdrasill's left them for dead? [[spoiler:Played with later on, as he and Yggdrasill shift away from one another and after that point Sagara's ''nobody'''s Dragon.]]
* EnigmaticEmpoweringEntity: To Kouta. [[spoiler:He gives Kouta a Lemon Energy Lockseed, the upgrade to use the Energy Lockseeds, the Kachidoki Lockseed, and finally the Kiwami Lockseed. Sagara's motivations are less than clear.]]
* EnigmaticMinion: He's proving to be even more enigmatic than Sid. [[spoiler:He then seems to be Rosyuo's minion, but even that turns out to be false.]]
* EvilCostumeSwitch: In a sense. [[spoiler:When conversing with the Overlord Inves, he wears white priest robes instead of his normal attire and when talking to Ryoma, he wears a completely snakeskin outfit.]]
* EvilGenius: Yggdrasill's third one. He's in charge of information control and propaganda.
* ExactWords: [[spoiler:In #32, Kouta accuses Sagara of lying about the Overlords. Sagara says he didn't lie - he told Kouta that Overlords ''could'' stop Helheim, but he never said that they ''would'' do it. Moreover, he never said that Kouta should try to talk to the Overlords, [[TakeAThirdOption as there is another solution...]]]]
* FairPlayVillain: [[spoiler:The reason why he's giving Kouta power ups is because he wants the fight for the Forbidden Fruit to be as fair as possible and he thinks that Yggdrasill started the game at an unfair advantage. Maybe, since Sagara has shown himself to be an ''excellent'' liar.]]
** [[spoiler:And again in #31, when he argues to Rosyuo that humanity at least deserves a fair chance to obtain the Forbidden Fruit; this convinces Rosyuo to create the Kiwami Lockseed from a portion of the Fruit.]]
* {{Foil}}: To Sid of all people. [[spoiler:Both are {{Enigmatic Minion}}s, both are master manipulators, both give away artifacts that empower the Riders. But then they diverge: Sid wears black at all times, while Sagara dresses in bright colors, Sid is revealed to be the AntiRoleModel underneath his enigmatic exterior, while Sagara has actual depth, Sid handed Rider powers over to people who show negative character traits, while Sagara gave a power up to Kouta after he saw positive character traits.]]
** He's also one [[spoiler:to the Woman of the Beginning. Both are extremely enigmatic figures who have the same mysterious powers concerning Helheim, both love vague philosophical filibusters, and both seem to be the only people who seem to know what the heck is going on. But then they diverge, the Woman is a pessimistic, cynical fatalist who believe everyone is doomed to whatever fate she has seen and tells them to run. In contrast DJ Sagara is a cheery idealist who tells destiny to screw itself while convincing people to stand up and fight for what they believe in. Subverted that the Woman of the Beginning, in fact Mai fused with the Golden Fruit, and having seen tragedy after tragedy unfold for her friends, is justified, while his idealism is part of his scheme as a Biblical snake archetype. Though, when his own expectations are subverted, he's gracious about his defeat and wishes Kouta and Mai well.]]
* GogglesDoNothing: He wears a pair purely for aesthetic purposes [[spoiler:in his mortal guise.]]
* TheGoodChancellor: [[spoiler:He seemed to be this to Rosyuo, acting as his advisor and counseling him to give humanity a second chance.]]
* HereWeGoAgain[=/=]AndTheAdventureContinues: [[spoiler:After the Helheim Invasion ends, Sagara goes off to find a new world to test.]]
* HiddenDepths: He was originally presented as just an outside commentator, but it's soon shown that he's actually part of Yggdrasill. Then it's shown that he has his own agenda outside of Yggdrasil. [[spoiler:Then he's revealed to have unnatural abilities, such as apparently creating a Lockseed from an orange. He is also acquainted with the Priestess and the Overlords. Ultimately, he turns out to be Helheim itself.]]
* TheIdealist: In a direct contrast to the [[spoiler:Woman of the Beginning.]]
* IRejectYourReality: [[spoiler:He tells Kouta that power can only be used to destroy...so Kouta should use his power to destroy the rule of reality where hope requires sacrifice.]]
* ItAmusedMe: Has openly admitted to this being the reason he's done... well, basically anything he's done since the start of the story.
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:He tried to destroy Earth, and previously destroyed the Femushinmu homeworld and possibly other planets... Yet, in the end, he gets off scot-free so he can keep on doing this to other worlds and species. Justified slightly in that his BlueAndOrangeMorality means that he can't really be judged by human standards. He's not ''malicious'', he's just doing what he's always been meant to.]]
* LargeHamRadio: He plays this role to hype up the Beat Riders. [[spoiler:He puts it to use for Yggdrasil to keep pitting the Armored Riders against each other by keeping up the illusion that the Sengoku Drivers are only meant to enhance the Inves game.]]
* TheLastDJ: He plays this trope to a T. While he's a member of Yggdrasil, he doesn't agree with ''everything'' they say and they treat him as such. [[spoiler:The problem is that his morality is a little more [[BlueAndOrangeMorality colored]] than the typical morality and inverts the laconic definition: prefers advancement over integrity. Not to mention that his nature makes him the ''[[{{Pun}} first]]'' DJ.]]
* ManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler:To everyone and everything. He ''is'' Helheim.]]
* ManipulativeBastard: He manipulates people through his show to make them think that the Armored Riders are some kind of cool new fad instead of Yggdrasill's pawns.
** [[spoiler:More darkly, it's clear that he's manipulating Kouta for his own ends. He even admits as much in #32, though it's clear by the end of the series that he was simply the most interested in seeing what Kouta would do with the Forbidden Fruit's power.]]
* MrExposition: His job early on is to explain the new status quo each episode... well, the status quo Yggdrasill wants people to know.
* MysteriousBacker: [[spoiler:He decides to become Kouta's benefactor after being impressed by his inner ubermensch.]]
** [[spoiler:He is the one that gives Kouta the Kachidoki and Kiwami Lockseeds. What's more, Ryoma doesn't recognize the former as one of his projects.]]
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagara_S%C5%8Dz%C5%8D Sagara Sozo]], whom some viewers may remember as [[Manga/RurouniKenshin the origin of Sagara Sanosuke's name]]. [[spoiler:He led the Sekiho army in an ill-fated rebellion, which is particularly appropriate considering what DJ Sagara's been doing.]]
* TheNicknamer: He's the one who gives Kouta, Micchi, and Oren their Armored Rider names.
* NotSoSmallRole: Four times over. [[spoiler:At first he seems like a MrExposition BitCharacter, and is then revealed to be Yggdrasill's propaganda officer, and when it looks like his role in the plot is done, he reveals himself to be quite the philosopher and becomes Kouta's MysteriousBacker. This is then turned up far beyond eleven when its revealed that he opposes the Woman of the Beginning and has the same powers as her, as well as knowing the Overlords. Finally, he ends up revealing himself as Helheim's avatar.]]
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Sagara has a... [[BlueAndOrangeMorality unique way of thinking]], caring only for the end result of Helheim's invasion unlike his subordinates who care about either stopping it or taking advantage of it. As such, he helps out Kouta, though the way he goes about it is through [[spoiler:turning him into an Overlord via a TransformationTrinket]]. He doesn't do anything ''too'' awful outside of [[spoiler:being the one behind the very force that everyone's focused on stopping]], though his methods to helping the heroes and hindering the villains leaves even ''[[TheMessiah Kouta]]'' questioning if he's a good guy or bad guy.
* PetTheDog: In #15, when he learns that Kouta is being detained by Yggdrasill, he not only finds Kouta's cell but gives him a Lemon Energy Lock Seed, an adapter piece to use with his Sengoku Driver, and left behind his key card on the off chance Kouta could escape.
** Another in #18: where he aids the Beat Riders, going against Takatora's wishes.
*** Just to make himself even more [[MysteriousBacker mysterious]], he does it AGAIN in #19, gifting a Tuliphopper to the guys.
** And AGAIN in #23 [[spoiler:He pulled Kouta out of his Yuya murder funk by pointing out that since power is only good for destroying things, why not use it to destroy the rule that "hope requires sacrifice"?]]
** [[spoiler:He convinces Rosyuo to give humanity a piece of the Forbidden Fruit so that they can prove themselves, leading to Kouta gaining the Kiwami Lockseed.]]
* ThePhilosopher: He often expounds on such things, particularly in #23.
* PleaseSpareHimMyLiege: [[spoiler:After Rosyuo finished talking to Takatora in #31 he was going to write humanity off as a lost cause, cue Sagara showing up to convince him to give them a second chance.]]
* PropagandaMachine: His original job. He's... branched out since then. [[spoiler:[[IncrediblyLamePun Hah]], [[AnthropomorphicPersonification branched out.]]]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He's very good at picking apart peoples' motivations and ideals.
** [[spoiler:He give an oddly polite and well meaning one to Kouta. He points out that without Yggdrasill's secret backing, the Beat Rider teams would have never gotten anywhere in life. Kouta can't disagree.]]
** [[spoiler:In #23, he gives one to Yggdrasill in general, calling them cowards that pretend to be strong but are too afraid to stand up for their beliefs. He criticizes their reluctant acceptance of the idea that innocent people must be sacrificed for the greater good; specifically, that they believe that it's morally wrong but choose to do it anyway.]]
* SatanicArchetype: [[spoiler:He plays the role of the snake from the Book of Genesis tempting humanity with power and knowledge to test their true character. Ironically, upon getting over his initial disappointment for having his expectations for the winner of the Golden Fruit be subverted, he slips into the role of God in his well-wishing of Kouta and Mai to "be fruitful and multiply", even saying it's not his place to say so.]]
* ScrewDestiny: [[spoiler:The reason he backs Kouta over the course of the series is because he's interested to see if he can avoid falling into the pitfalls of those who previously claimed the Forbidden Fruit and is pleasantly surprised when Kouta actually pulls it off.]]
* SharpDressedMan: Changes out of his goofy DJ clothes into a stylish gray suit in #25 when conversing with Ryoma.
* SpiritualAntithesis: [[spoiler:Due to many similarities in the respective series and sharing the same creator, he can be seen as one to [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Kyubey and the Incubators]]. Both provide the source of the heroes powers while conveniently forgetting to explain certain very important details, both are completely alien, and both appear seemingly harmless at first. But the Incubators are orderly, emotionless, and thrive on creating a circular status quo, while Sagara/Helhiem is chaotic, very hammy, and ''hates'' the status quo.]]
* StealthHiBye: Demonstrates this occasionally. [[spoiler:In #23, he even borrowed a cue from the Woman of the Beginning by supposedly invading Kouta's dream. Considering Sagara is an avatar of Helheim itself, the source of the Woman of the Beginning's powers, it makes sense.]]
* SympathyForTheHero: When Kouta says he only wants power so he can protect the innocent, Sagara is pleased enough to leave behind a keycard, a Lemon Energy Lockseed, and the adapter piece to let him use it.
* TakeAThirdOption: He tries to get Kouta to do this. [[spoiler:When Kouta believes that the only way to save the world is through sacrifice, he tells Kouta about the Overlords and how they have the power to stop Helheim. Later on, when Kouta finds that the Overlords are not interested in saving humanity, Sagara tells Kouta to become an Overlord himself.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: While Takatora is an AntiVillain, Sagara seems to be one of the only genuinely good characters besides him to work for Yggdrasill. [[spoiler:Ultimately, Sagara falls more under BlueAndOrangeMorality.]]
%%* {{Troll}}
* UnreliableExpositor: Sagara has appeared to three different factions and talked to them and supported their ideology to a certain degree all while giving contradictory information. It's unknown which side he even supports at this time, if he's even on a side.
* VillainsBlendInBetter: [[spoiler:For an EldritchAbomination he plays the role of a human very well. From the very beginning, all of Yggdrasill thought he was a mere propaganda officer they hired to control the masses and he effortlessly played them.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Subverted. It ''looks'' like he's going to have one of these when Kouta finds a third option...but sticks to his proclamation of neutrality and agrees with his choice, even wishing him and Mai luck.]]
* VisionaryVillain: [[spoiler:Ever since he was born, Sagara as Helheim has wanted to change the universe.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: [[spoiler:Heavily implied: in #24, Redyue asks him if he's "assuming their form." Before that, he entered as a snake before changing to his appearance. Demushu even calls him a "damn snake". It's eventually revealed that as Helheim's avatar, Sagara can be whatever he wants to be.]]
* WeAreAsMayflies: A rather positive take on this trope. He points out that human lives are short, fragile, and insignificant, but it also inspires each individual human to be the best and most powerful person they can be.
* WeAllDieSomeday: In #15, the speech he gives to Kouta is about this.
* TheWatcher: Outright claims to be one in #25, though unlike most Watchers he clearly shows some biases and he's okay with interfering a little. (Okay, ''most'' Watchers interfere a little, but Sagara doesn't make any pretense that he's "supposed" to stay out of it.)
* WildCard: [[spoiler:In #23 he tells Kouta to find the Overlords, but then in #24 he's revealed to be in contact with them. In #25 he claims to Ryoma that he is an observer, and only helped out Kouta because Yggdrasil had an unfair advantage. He then says he'll give some help to Ryouma's group...but all he really does is confirm what Ryouma already deduced. (Although Ryouma seemed happy with that.)]]

An unknown group of Armored Riders that use Matsubokkuri Lockseeds to become warriors very similar to Kamen Rider Kurokage. They serve as the private security force of the Yggdrasill Corporation.
----
* CoolBike: The Dandeliners. Unlike the Beat Riders' cycles, these are ''hover'' bikes.
* ConservationOfNinjitsu: The original Kurokage was a decent opponent. These guys, however, fight in groups, and are little more than cannon fodder.
* DegradedBoss: Ryoji, the original Kamen Rider Kurokage, was presented as roughly equal to the other Armored Riders despite having lower stats. [[ConservationOfNinjutsu Now Mooks are using his powerset]], and do a significantly poorer job.
* KillItWithFire: They sometimes carry flamethrowers, specifically to burn down all plants grown by Inves.
* {{Mooks}}: They're Yggdrasill's rank-and-file grunts.
* {{Ninja}}: A cross between this and Japanese footsoldiers; though they act more ninja-like than Ryoji did. The Troopers are very good at magically appearing and disappearing like the warrior that they were based on.
* RedShirtArmy: Sort of; throughout the series, they are shown to be incompetent at their job.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: After Ryoma abandons them against Demushu, all of the troopers desert Yggdrasill en masse and flee the city along with the civilians.
