Appearing only in the ([[NoExportForYou Japan-only]], and [[TheRoleplayingGame official]]) tabletop RPG ''[[http://wiki.evageeks.org/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_RPG:_The_Nerv_White_Paper Neon Genesis Evangelion RPG: The Nerv White Paper]]'' and the published adventure within, Marie is an American Evangelion pilot who has recently arrived to Tokyo-3.

----
* TheAce: Evangelion Pilot, holds a doctorate, pretty, highly social...
* BrokenAce: ...and happens to be a BitchInSheepsClothing holding the typical laundry list of craziness that the other Pilots have.
* {{Foil}}: To Asuka. They are both GorgeousGaijin fanservice characters, incredibly smart (Marie probably a bit more because of having a PHD), are top-notch pilots, and a type of Tsundere. Except that while Asuka is the type of Tsundere that shows a mask of "I hate the world and everybody in it" in an attempt to NeverBeHurtAgain, Maria is the type of Tsundere that pretends to be nice, while in reality she dislikes pretty much everything.
* InconsistentSpelling: Her given name was mistakenly spelled "Mari'''a'''" by the fans for years due to a misreading of the katakana, and some continue to spell it this way either out of ignorance or habit/convenience; it's actually spelled "Mari'''e'''" (マリイ).
* LickedByTheDog: She begins to show she is not a complete BitchInSheepsClothing in the adventure she appears in when she establishes a friendship with Pen-Pen.
* PutOnABus: The adventure where she appears has her ending up injured as collateral damage of an Angel attack and put on the hospital, where she will remain for the rest of the adventure (this, obviously, depends on whether or not the players and Game Master decide to go OffTheRails).
* SailorEarth: A pretty rare canon(-ish) version--she is the InUniverse pilot of the (canonically destroyed) American Evangelion.
* TeenGenius: She has the same age as the other Children, and already has ''a PHD''.

From ''Girlfriend of Steel'' / ''Iron Maiden''. Mana is a new girl in Tokyo 3 who immediately becomes close to Shinji, inciting Asuka's jealousy. As her relationship with Shinji grows, it is revealed that she is a pilot for the T•RIDEN•T project, a giant mech program in competition with NERV. Shinji must evaluate his feelings for her all while deciding how to rescue her when NERV uses her as bait to lure out her former teammate and fellow pilot from hiding.

----
* AscendedExtra: She's one of the very few non-canon characters to reappear in another spin-off, the ''Manga/ShinjiIkariRaisingProject''.
* BecomingTheMask: She was supposed to befriend Shinji to get under his skin and steal technical data about the Evas in order to find weaknesses future T•RIDEN•T pilots can exploit. She falls for him for real.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: When their location is about to be hit with an N2 mine, Mana runs to Musashi and tells Shinji their relationship is over, in order to make him get back in his Eva and thus be protected from the explosion. Shinji is eventually dragged to safety by Asuka; whether his heartbreak sticks or not depends on the ending.
* BreakTheCutie: Her backstory as a member of a group of ChildSoldiers.
* ButNowIMustGo: In the good ending, Mana survives and reunites with Shinji but as NERV is hunting her, she needs to disappear.
** Averted in the extra good [=PS2=] ending, which has her and Shinji get together, and even, implicitly, have sex.
* CanonForeigner: She's the only extracanonical character to show up in multiple parts of the franchise, being part of the cast for the ''Shinji Ikari Raising Project'' manga.
* CareerEndingInjury: She was discharged from the T•RIDEN•T program after the machine's lack of any kind of inertial dampening caused her severe internal injuries.
* DamselInDistress: Once her cover is blown, NERV takes her hostage and uses her as bait to lure out her former teammate Musashi.
* DefectingForLove: She tries defecting to NERV but it almost gets her killed and NERV refuses to have her.
* GirlNextDoor: The type of feeling she tries to provide, which traps Shinji pretty hard (depending on the player's choices).
* HoneyTrap: She was supposed to seduce Shinji but ended up falling InLoveWithTheMark.
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: In the good ending, she's wanted by the Japanese military for treason. No wonder she cannot stay with Shinji. Averted in the [=PS2=] ending, where Makoto helps her break free cleanly from the military.
* IWillWaitForYou: Subverted in one ending: Shinji chooses to wait for Mana but when they reunite, she's forced to leave him for good. Averted in another ending where Shinji is indecisive in the matter and while they do reunite here as well, she still has to leave and neither of them have any illusions of ever seeing each other again.
** Also averted in the extra ending added in the [=PS2=] version, where she returns, and she and Shinji finally do get together.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Subverted. Not only were she and her teammates [[ResignationsNotAccepted not allowed to quit the military]], Mana's teammate Keita was brutally beaten when he tried to escape. Afterwards, Mana, Musashi and Keita considered hijacking their T•RIDEN•Ts and making a run for it but Mana got reassigned before that could happen and eventually tried to defect by herself.
* MotorMouth: On occasion she can speak quickly for prolonged periods of time. Given that she has [[EmotionlessGirl Rei]]'s voice actress, it comes off kinda weird.
* NiceGirl: She's definitely the kind of girl Shinji deserves: she's just as kind-hearted as he is and has all the better traits from both Asuka and Rei. This being Evangelion of course things can't go that smoothly for him.
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: She ends up at ground zero of an N2 mine detonation. Understandably, Shinji is ''extremely'' depressed afterwards. As it is usual for this trope, Mana survived. [[HeroicSacrifice Musashi threw her into his T•RIDEN•T's ejection capsule and launched her away just before the N2 mine hit.]]
* NotQuiteDead: In one of the good endings, she turns up at a hospital.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl:
** On her last night before she has to disappear, she surprises Shinji in a ModestyTowel. It heavily resembles a similar scene between Asuka and Shinji in the anime, except Mana is indeed wearing nothing beneath and makes good on her offer of letting him take a look (and laughs at Shinji's reaction while heavily blushing herself). The viewer gets to see it too in a quick see it or miss it moment.
** She also has no problems with asking Shinji to take off his underwear.
** In the extra good ending added in the [=PS2=] version, she and Shinji are heavily implied to have outright had sex.
* [[HeKnowsTooMuch She Knows Too Much]]: The JSSDF repeatedly tries to off her when she defects. From NERV's point of view however, she knows ''too little'' - that is, whatever she might know is not worth pissing off the Japanese military for.
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: Despite starting off well with Shinji, their relationship is severely strained when it becomes clear that Mana is hiding things from him. At the end, Mana tries to BreakHisHeartToSaveHim... and in the bad ending, Shinji falls for it.
* TheMole: Working for the JSSDF. [[DefectingForLove At first.]]
* ThirdOptionLoveInterest: Was created specifically to have the gregariousness of Asuka with the gentleness of Rei.
* {{Tykebomb}}: Sort of. The JSSDF recruited her into the T•RIDEN•T project in anticipation of a war breaking out over possession of Eva technology six years from now, when she would be 20.
* UnPerson: In the good ending, Kaji and Hyuga turn her into this to protect her from the military.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: After getting injured, Mana was reassigned to spy on NERV through Shinji. When she failed to deliver, the JSSDF declared her a traitor and attempted to assassinate her.

From the Sega game ''2nd Impression''.

----
* ApologizesALot: Not just a lot; she actually apologizes ''more often'' than Shinji does.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Out of the entire cast, Mayumi is the one most similar to Shinji. They're almost exactly alike, from plain appearance to personality and [[ApologizesALot mannerisms]], right down to using an inanimate object to escape reality (the SDAT player for Shinji, books for Mayumi).
* BodyHorror: She has an Angel's core somewhere inside her abdomen. When the Angel approaches the city, Mayumi is shown to be in intense pain.
* BungledSuicide: When Shinji refuses to MercyKill her, she jumps off the school's roof but [[GiantRobotHandsSaveLives he catches her with his Eva]].
* CuteBookworm:
** She really loves her books. Her EstablishingCharacterMoment takes place in the library and later on, she's seen leaving a bookstore.
** It takes on a darker shade during her psychoanalysis scene, where Mayumi admits to her books serving as escapism from reality. More specifically, she trusts books more than people because the books won't ever betray her.
* DeathSeeker: Briefly becomes one when she [[HeroicBSOD realizes her connection with the Angel of the episode]], begging Shinji to kill her. Shinji doesn't even consider that an option and gently tells her to go to the shelter. [[DrivenToSuicide She doesn't listen.]]
* FirstNameBasis: She calls Shinji by his first name just before she leaves Tokyo-3. When Shinji points it out, she immediately apologizes.
* GirlOfTheWeek: ''Second Impression'' is the only time she ever appears in the franchise, unlike Mana who made it to a manga as well.
* TheGlassesComeOff: She takes off her glasses while waving Shinji goodbye from the train.
* HatesBeingTouched: Seems to have the same aversion to her personal space being violated as Shinji. When their hands briefly touch during the library scene, she immediately recoils and apologizes.
* HimeCut: She has all three parts (long length, sidetails and even bangs) but the usual traits are missing (elegance, tradition, high statys, composure, etc.) so this an AvertedTrope.
* MissingMom: Her mom died when Mayumi was very young.
** In fact, she has a flashback of her mom lying on the ground with someone holding a knife over her body, implying she was murdered.
* NeverBeHurtAgain: She has trust issues and is afraid of being betrayed by others.
* NoNameGiven: We see her name written on the blackboard when she transfers into the class and is referred to by name in the episode credits but no one ever calls her by name.
* ShrinkingViolet: Like Shinji, she is painfully shy and withdrawn.
* TheSymbiote: She has an Angel's core inside her body.
* ThirdOptionLoveInterest: Bonds quickly with Shinji due to their similar personalities, much to the glee of [[ShipperOnDeck Toji and Kensuke]].
* TransferStudentUniforms: She never switches to the local uniform before leaving Tokyo-3.
* TwiceShy: With Shinji given that both of them have social interactions issues.
