----
! Dom Streater
* AuthorAppeal: For her Final Collection, all the models were styled exactly like her, with the afro and the dresses were all like her usual wardrobe.
* BoringButPractical: Her designs consistently get her either safe or in the top, but she tends to fade into the background next to some of the louder personalities around her.
* GenderBlenderName
* NiceGirl: Often seemed to be actively avoiding fights in the workroom.

! Alexandria von Bromssen
* BrutalHonesty: She outright said who she thought needed to go home with a dry and serious tone.
* DumbBlond: Averted. Alexandria said she hated her modeling career because she wanted to go to school and have a brain.
* FriendToAllChildren: In her home visit, she shows her studio "Camp Couture", where she teaches children how to saw. For her final collection, her guests are two of her alumns.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Subverted. Went from Runner-Up in Season 12, to second eiminated in All-Stars Season 4.
* TheQuietOne: Talks very slowly, possibly due to English being her second language.
** GoodIsNotNice: Don't let her appearance fool you. She has a lot to say about the other designers in the ConfessionCam.
* StatuesqueStunner

! Justin [=LeBlanc=]
* DisabilitySuperpower: He is deaf. The "superpower" part is because he's claims he's not too worried about the workroom drama since if it gets too bad he can just turn his hearing aid off. Which he does at one point when Ken and Sandro are arguing.
* InspirationallyDisadvantaged: He's deaf, but it's downplayed, only coming up in a couple of episodes.
* Lifelines: He's the recipient of the "Tim Gunn Save" after Tim decides that his elimination was too soon.
* ManlyTears: He shed these when he was eliminated and again during the challenge in which he managed to retool his own dress.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Had never won a challenge in his original season, despite making it to Fashion Week. In All-Stars Season 4, however, he wins the second episode's challenge, but ultimately places overall in 7th place.
* NeverBareheaded: Almost always seem wearing a flat cap, even at home, possibly because of both his hearing aid and because he's balding.
* NiceGuy: One of the few designers that all of the others truly like, even Jerkass Ken.
* Retool: During one of the challenges later on in the season, he was given the opportunity to retool a losing garment from earlier on in the season. He chose his own dress that originally would have got him eliminated had it not been for the Tim Gun Rescue.
* StraightGay: In addition to being deaf he's also gay, though you probably wouldn't be able to tell until he says something about it.
* TookALevelInBadass: After the "Tim Gunn Save" he started doing better in challenges. He also seemed to reflect better on his designs (see Retool) and was able to determine where he had gone wrong.

! Bradon [=McDonald=]
* TheAce: Won 4 challenges in the show
* TheCastShowoff: Does a jumping spin in the show's opening.
* NiceGuy
* RealMenWearPink: He's a retired professional dancer.
* StraightGay
* WackyMarriageProposal: He proposed on camera in the 4th episode after winning the challenge, and would have had to wait for the answer until the episode airs. However, the following week his boyfriend told him that marriage equality had been officially legalisedthe contestants are not allowed contact with the outside world during filming, so they cannot watch the news and proposed to him, so after saying yes, Bradon told him about his own proposal.

! Helen Castillo
* TheAce: Won a total of 4 challenges in her run.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite her general appearance, and she even says that the clothes she makes are not what you'd expect from her.
* Determinator: Even after getting reamed by the judges for her failed gown in the second episode declares that she's going to keep making them until the day she dies.
* FemmeFatalons: The pointy kind.
* Jerkass:
** She was constantly stirring up the dirt and provoking Ken to get more drama.
** An out-the-show example are also her tweets about Tom and Lorenzo.
* Ladette: Tattooed, foul-mouthed, and very blunt.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Like Sonjia, she was eliminated right before Fashion Week in her season. She makes it to the finale in All-Stars Season 4, [[spoiler: but loses to Dmitry in the end]].
* OddFriendship: Despite vocally being displeased when she sees that Kate has returned for the competition they actually grow to like each other when put on the same team for a challenge, surprising both of them. In All-Stars Season 4, she becomes friends with Michelle.
* RavenHairIvorySkin
* SuicidalOverconfidence: In odd combination with constantly looking for reassurance, since she would often alternate rapidly between the two.

! Kate Pankoke
See Season 11 for her section.

! Alexander Pope
* CampGay
* DragQueen: Along with the above.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Subverted. Went from 7th in Season 11, to 8th in All-Stars Season 5.

! Ken Laurence
* TheAtoner: In All-Stars Season 5 this time around he tries to come across as a better person, recognizing that he was going through a lot in his life during his original run.
* AscendedFanboy: Declares that he's been "secretly competing" on the show for the past 11 seasons because he's been following it and incorporating the judges' critiques into his own designs.
* BreakTheHaughty: Goes into the Belk challenge confident he'll win since he's one of the few contestants from the South, but he gets reamed by the judges for missing the point of the challenge and ends up in the bottom three.
* CampGay
* CityMouse: Says that even though people think he's a CountryMouse because he's from the South he actually hates the outdoors, though he winds up enjoying their camping trip more than he expected.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Has been homeless several times.
* DramaQueen
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: When Bradon's look is being praised during the Belk challenge he can be seen doing a hilariously bitchy "Oh my God" eye roll.
* HairTriggerTemper: Essentially called out as such by Tim Gunn when he explodes at Bradon and Alexander as they're moving into the same room. The producers actually moved Ken to his own room because they feared what might happen if he was forced to live with the others, especially after what happened with Sandro.
* HotBlooded
* ItsAllAboutMe
* Jerkass: Mostly towards Sue.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: In Season 12 he placed 8th, while in All-Stars Season 5, he made it throught to 3rd place.
* PetTheDog: Is surprisingly courteous to his fan during the Real Women challenge, a challenge traditionally known to cause trouble for the more drama-prone designers. He still wound up getting eliminated though.
* RealMenWearPink: Pink shirt included.
* TwoferTokenMinority: Black and gay, though on the "gay" part he may not be in the minority on this show.

! Jeremy Brandrick
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He is rather nice, but he still can happily trash his competitor's garments in the confession cam.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He almost had a run against Alexandria for the most trash-talk in the confessional cam about the other designers.
* ButNotTooWhite: Pokes fun at himself for being a "typical Brit" who burns easily when he winds up sunburned after the field day challenge.
* HappilyMarried: He and his husband have twin babies.
* StraightGay
* TeamDad: Falls into this role almost without meaning to, possibly because he's a dad in real life.

! Karen Batts
* FieryRedhead
* OutOfFocus: Seemed to mainly reside in the background apart from the occasional team challenge.

! Miranda Kay Levy
* BashBrothers: From day one she didn't like Timothy, also from Milwaukee like her, so by the 3rd challenge they end up in the same team. Drama-ensues.
* HeroicBSOD: During the Coney Island challenge, and verbally lashes out at Timothy, not caring that he's in the room and can hear her.
* Irony: She served in the army, despite being emotionally unstable.
* MilitaryBrat: She served in the army and as the parental figure for her brother.

! Sue Waller
* FantasticTimeManagement: Inverted with one challenge, where she was still sewing a contestant into the garment backstage.
* TheDitz: Did not have a lot of experience with a sewing machine.

! Sandro Masmanidi
* BrutalHonesty: He's the first to tell Timothy to stop trying to explain to the judges his "sustainable philosophy" because they don't care. Of course others had to translate this in "clean" language.
* DramaQueen
* FunnyForeigner: He's Russian, but his name can make it a bit hard to tell.
* HotBlooded
* Jerkass
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Stands up for Helen during her critique in the second episode by telling the judges she tried her hardest.
** JerkassHasAPoint: When declared he was safe, Sandro interrupts the judges and asks for critique for his design, upset that he still is not giving them what they want to see from him. Despite the judges and other contestants berating him for being rude and that he should be 'thankful' to be safe, the designers are constantly told being safe is not a good thing, and Sandro's request for constructive feedback seems perfectly fair (Zac Posen just angrily insults Sandro's design, instead).
* Malaproper: Isn't always sure he's using the right idiom, and at one point asks if anyone has a pin because "I need to sew my hookers."He probably meant hooks
* NoIndoorVoice: To the point that Justin actually takes off his hearing aid when he's arguing with Ken.
* NonGameplayElimination: Although he got in the middle, he still questioned the judges, got into a screaming argument with Helen and Ken and left the building. The producers eventually tracked him down the next day and brought him back just long enough to apologize for his behavior before he formally left the competition.
* PornStache
* SirSwearsALot: Notably drops a ClusterFBomb in his home tour video.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere

! Timothy Westbrook
* AnimalMotifs: Unicorns, as he proudly declares in his home visit.
* BigotVsBigot: From day one Miranda didn't like Timothy, also from Milwaukee like him, so by the 3rd challenge they end up in the same team. Drama-ensues.
* CampGay: To the point he was standing next to his model wearing sparkly high heels while she was barefoot. Something the judges were not amused by.
* Cloudcuckoolander: His entire concept for his first look, which involves not having his model wear any makeup to her visible irritation, not use any electricity in the production of the garment or to prep her hair, and to have her mime being bound as she goes down the runway (which she refuses to actually do on the runway minus a small motion at the end of the catwalk).
* Granola Boy: Defines himself as a sustainable designer.
** It then went to irritating levels when he refused to use makeup, electricity and burned synthetic material, which makes it far than sustainable.
* Hypocrite: The judges tear him into regarding the above, since burning material like parachute fabric releases chemicals into the air and is not exactly eco friendly. Not to mention wearing (women's) shoes while his model isn't.
* Keet
* SoapboxSadie: The other designers' opinion of his behavior in the first episode.

! Kahindo Mateene
* WeHardlyKnewYe

! Angela Bacskocky
